"If blacks ruled, people will walk on sewage!" said Smith - greatest shame is denying it and continue wallowing in s***t W Mukori

It is said that Mathematics is an exact science in that 1 + 1 = 2 not 2 or anything else. Compared to say History, for example, whose parameters are vaguely defined. One can argue that the primary causes of the Second World War were A, B, C and D; second person may say that and a third say something else which is neither this nor that and all three may well be marked correct.

Politics is a totally different ball game! Whereas with History there is a concerted effort to be factual and respect of the truth; in Politics opinions are traded as facts and, if one is not well informed diligent, half truths and even downright lies are sold as the whole truth.

Even if one accepted the reality that Politics is not an exact science with one undisputed answer to a question, still only those with an invested interest in denying the facts can dispute that Zimbabwe is a textbook case of a failed state in which the overwhelming majority of the citizens are now living in abject poverty as a result of decades of misrule.

“If blacks are to rule themselves people in towns will walk on sewage until they believe its’s normal,” said Ian Douglas Smith in 1975.

“All the gains from colonization will varnish, infrastructure will collapse, roads will be impassable, trains will kill people until they’re abandoned as an unsafe mode of transport. Hospitals will be closed; farms will be grabbed and nothing to feed the nation.”

After just four decades of self-rule, Zimbabwe has already gone a long way to fulfil Ian Smith’s prophecy!

Even President Emmerson Mnangagwa, succeeded Mugabe after the 2017 military coup as the new Zanu PF dictator, and his Zanu PF cronies have grudgingly admitted the country is in a mess. They blame everyone and everything, especially the west imposed sanctions, for the mess but never themselves.

Zanu PF has also produced its own propaganda portraying a prosperous future to counter the gloomy reality of the present. And thus this Mnangagwa regime, “the Second Republic” as he calls it, claims the nation is set to attain upper middle-income status by 2030, vision 2030.

Zimbabwe is a pariah state and there is nothing Mnangagwa has done since the 2017 coup to suggest that is about to change. And as long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs there will be no meaningful economic recovery. Vision 2030 will remain a mirage in the darkest of nights!

Ian Smith’s prophecy has come to pass in record time, I don’t think even Ian Smith would have predicted Zimbabwe would be a failed state in just four decades, because he predicted three things:

1)     That the Zanu PF leaders were corrupt and incompetent

2)     That they would be oppressive and shun democratic accountability

3)     Third, most important of all, they are so obsessed about their inferiority complex they will never admit failure

Ian Smith was spot-on on all three counts, and it was a recipe for disaster as we can see.

The point is Zimbabwe’s economic and political failure was not inevitable. The country had human and material resources and economic potential to be “the South Korea of Africa”, as Ken Yamamoto a Japanese scholar put it, given competent and visionary leaders like Nelson Mandela in South Africa. We turned left instead of right and became “the failed North Korea of Africa” under the leadership of the corrupt and tyrannical Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies.

The country still has the same resourceful and hard-working people, the natural resources, etc. are still there and therefore can still pull itself by the boot strings to become democratic and prosperous nation. It will be more difficult to do so now than back in 1980. The nation will have to wrestle political power from the Zanu PF thugs, for a start. That is easier said than done because the rot of the dictatorship has permeated deep into society.

Still, it is possible to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship. Indeed, given the tragic human suffering in the country, it is imperative to dismantle the dictatorship before the regime drags the whole nation into the economic and political chaos that has engulfed other nations like Libya or Syria.

Zanu PF has tried to impose a de jure one-party dictatorship but failed. The party is still obliged to hold regular elections for political legitimacy, and this is its Achilles heel. Given the party’s track record of economic ruins and it is not surprising the regime has resorted to rigging the elections to remain in power. Rigging elections is one thing getting away with it is another, as Zanu PF learned in 2008 when SADC and AU refused to rubber stamp the result and denied it legitimacy!

Zanu PF is once again blatantly rigging the 2023 elections, the regime is using wanton violence, has failed to produce a verified voters’ roll, etc., etc. Pressure must be brought to bear on SADC and AU not to rubber stamp the flawed elections and thus deny the regime legitimacy. This will force the country to have a new Government of National Unity (GNU), like the 2008 to 2013 GNU, only this time competent people must be appointed to ensure all the democratic reforms are implemented.

The only effective way to proving white racist like Ian Smith was wrong; that black Zimbabweans are capable of self-rule is by cleaning the sewage off our streets, install modern sewage system throughout the land and restore all the human freedoms, rights and dignities the Zanu PF dictatorship has denied our people. We don’t shame the white supremacists by denying our failures and shortcomings but by admitting and dealing with the problems and by successfully carrying out the latest open-heart surgery and more!

As a people we, black Africans, have wasted time and energy arguing with our detractors our worth as equals when we should have focused on earning our place at the high table by our deeds!

"Zanu PF is mortgaging Zimbabwe for a song" mourned Biti - true but who is facilitating it all? W Mukori

When Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF got into power in 1980, he proclaimed mass prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!”, in Shona. He was convinced he would achieve that by spending, spending and spending.

He built schools and hospitals for the ordinary people, the civil service and security sector became bloated to accommodate his comrades in arms and their cronies and he initiated the political patronage system of the ruling elite whom he pampered silly from the word go.

“In conversation with Trevor Simba Makoni”, google search it, Dr Makoni revealed how Prime Minister Mugabe replaced the Peugeot 406 used by Smith’s ministers with Mercedes Benz limos within weeks of the new government taking power. The limos were not budgeted for nor approved by the new cabinet.

Dr Makoni commented how this nothing is too good for the chefs culture had quickly spread and permeated every segment of Zimbabwe. It was “normal” for ZESA, NRZ or some such parastatal to pay CEO and his/her coterie of fellow political appointees hundreds of thousands of dollars in pay, cars, mansions and other allowances even when the company was failing to deliver basic services and failing to pay the workers the meagre wages!

1990 to 1999 IMF and WB sponsored Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP) failed to revive Zimbabwe’s flagging economy mainly because Zanu PF reduced its spending of social welfare for the ordinary people but not on the real big spenders – the ruling elite whose extravagance was only matched by their wastefulness. By the end of that decade Zimbabwe was up to her eyes in debt and IMF and WB stopped all financial assistance the country. Other western financial institutions followed the IMF and WB and cut all financial assistance to the country.

Robert Mugabe gave IMF and the WB his two-finger salute and announced his “look East” policy. Zimbabwe was going to get its financial assistance from China and other eastern nations like Russia.

China was aware that Zimbabwe was a bad debtor, and that the country could not borrow from no one else. And so, naturally, China took full advantage of this to drive a hard bargain and rip up Zimbabwe!

“The Minister of Finance disclosed in Parliament today that Zimbabwe has borrowed $2.7 b from China since independence of which only US$150m has been repaid,” commented former Finance Minister Tendai Biti in parliament.

“The biggest debt pertains to the billion dollars borrowed for the Hwange7 and 8 power station. There is no verification of these figures.

“In 2006 Zimbabwe borrowed US$200 m from China which loan was secured by 26 million ounces of platinum reserves in Selous.

“Assuming a price of US$2000 an ounce for platinum Zimbabwe mortgaged a $52 b asset for mere US$200 m. This is ridiculous.

“They have been mortgaging Zimbabwe for years #Shame.”

This is more than ridiculous and shame! This is a national tragedy and high treason!

POLAD, cherry on top, to entice opposition to contest rigged elections so why US$20k fee N Garikai

All candidates will be charged the following fees presidential US$20 000 up from US$ 1 000, MP US$1 000 up from US$100 and senator and councillor US$200 from no charge. The fees will discourage “chancers” according to a ZEC official. I think there is a more sinister motive behind the announcement!

There are four things one can be absolutely certain about Zanu PF regarding these 2023 elections:

a)      After 42 years in power and with the country is total meltdown, the ordinary people are so desperate for change, “they would vote for a donkey if Mnangagwa and the donkey were the only names on the ballot!” to paraphrase Professor Jonathan Moyo. That is, if elections were free which they are not.

b)     Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections by which I mean the party is not just using a loaded dice but one with 6s on all six sides. They want a 6, they will throw a 6!

c)      As much as Zanu PF feels it has no choice but to rig these elections to stay in power, the party knows that the opposition must fully participate in these flawed and illegal elections if it is to get political legitimacy from its SADC and AU compeers. Zanu PF suffered the humiliation of being forced to accept a GNU in 2008 when the regional and continental bodies, for the first ever, refused to endorse that year’s blatantly rigged elections. So Zanu PF is once again blatantly rigging the elections, on the one hand. On the other, the party is doing everything to ensure as many in the opposition participate. Mugabe saw to it that the opposition were allowed to win a few gravy train seats in elections since 2013; no more clean sweep win for Zanu PF. Mnangagwa has since added to this by creating POLAD to reward the losing presidential candidates.

d)     Mischief! Zanu PF leaders are devious and manipulative. Like T S Elliot’s Macavity the mystery cat, when you think Zanu PF is fast asleep, they are wide awake!

So why would Zanu PF, who are blatantly rigging the 2023 elections and are as keen as mustard to see as many opposition parties participate in the flawed and illegal process to get legitimacy, shoot themselves in the foot by charging these exorbitant fees certain to force many out of the rat race?

Answer! The exorbitant election candidate fees hike is just a decoy. Whilst the many political opposition players and critics alike have been venting their outrage at the fees; they are not talking about the real big issues such as failure to produce a verified voters roll and many other blatant vote rigging shenanigans.

Zanu PF used the white farm invasion as a diversional tactic in the period 2000 to 2015, for example. The farm invasions, “jambanja” as the locals called them, flared up towards elections with the accompanying gratuitous violence directed at the white farmers and their workers but always ended up spilling over to encompass all suspected opposition supporters in rural and urban centres. Jambanja was just a smoke screen to hide the nationwide violence against the regime’s political opponents country wide.

Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections and will stop at nothing to draw attention away from the rigging. Watch out!

"I am sending you to Pharaoh!" twittered Chamisa - being conned to believe the upstart is Moses! P Guramatunhu

Referring to the biblical situation, CCC leader President Nelson Chamisa assured the nation of the anticipated freedom from Zanu PF repression.

“THE CRIES HAVE BEEN HEARD…

And now the cry of the Israelites has reached Me, and I have seen how severely the Egyptians are oppressing them. Therefore, go!

I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring My people the Israelites out of Egypt. Exodus 3:9-10.

Blessed sabbath beloved! #Godisinit,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

“If You are the Son of God,” he (Devil) said, “throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus replied, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”  Matthew 4: 6 to 7.

Ever since its launch in 1999 the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), rebranded Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) in January 2022), the party’s primary task was to delivery democratic changes, as the party’s name implied, designed to end the Zanu PF oppression. In all these last 22 years, including the 5 years in the GNU when Zanu PF was forced by the SADC sponsored Global Political Agreement to accept reforms, MDC has failed to implement even one reform. Not even one!

Worse still, MDC has insisted in participating in these flawed and illegal elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy against advice from SADC, EU, IMF, etc. to implement reforms first.

The people of Zimbabwe have right life and limb to elect MDC into power, for the express purpose of dismantling the Zanu PF dictatorship and 22 years later find the nation in this sorry situation with the Zanu PF dictatorship untouched and being perpetuated by the very people send to dismantle it!

It is common knowledge that during the 2008 to 2013 GNU the late Zanu PF dictator, Robert Mugabe, bribed the entire MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, the limos, generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for the late Morgan Tsvangirai, etc. In return, the MDC leaders forgot about implementing the reforms.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the gravy train good life; [they will never rock the boat])! Zanu PF cronies boasted during the GNU when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the reforms.

Indeed, it is for the same reason – greed, Zanu PF is offering a few urban gravy train seats as bait - that MDC/CCC leaders keep participating in these flawed elections.

Zanu PF is not just rigging the 2023 elections, it is blatantly rigging them. The party does not just have a loaded dice, it has a dice with 6s on all six sides! Of course, it is idiotic to bet against them failing to throw a 6!

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends are hell bent on participating in these elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the elections. The regime is not producing something as basic as a verified voters’ roll and still CCC are participating regardless. “God is in it!” Chamisa insists.

Yeah! But what about; “Do not put the Lord your God to the test”!

Anyone can quote the Bible and even claim to be divinely inspired. As much as Nelson Chamisa would like to claim to be the divinely inspired Moses, there is a mountain of evidence to show that he is not just a mere mortal but a devilishly inspired one. He is corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent.

And the people of Zimbabwe will never have a healthy and functioning democratic government without implementing the democratic reforms. Winning blatantly rigged elections is an oxymoronic nonsense, as nonsensical as betting against one throwing a 6 when the dice has 6 on all side.

If the people of Zimbabwe want to get out of this hell-on-earth Zanu PF has landed them in, then we must put our thinking caps on. A nation that can be so easily conned by an upstart masquerading as Moses, even after 22 years with nothing to show for it, has clearly stop thinking!

After 42 years of economic mess and political paralysis , 2023 is foremost about securing political kingdom W Mukori

“Kukanganwa chezuro nehope!” so goes a Shona adage. Meaning, literally, one must never forget yesterday’s troubles with a night sleep.

Zimbabwe is in this economic mess and political paralysis, for neither the ruling party nor the many political opposition parties are offering any viable solutions out of the mess, because of 42 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and contemptuous disregard of the law and rule of law that has rightly earned the nation the pariah and failed state label. Ours has not been a day’s troubles but a 42 year (and counting) odyssey deeper and deeper into this man-made hell-on-earth. An odyssey we must not forget just because President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa or Nelson Chamisa says we must turn over a new page!

According to a ZBC News report 33 CCC members in Gwanda have defected to join the ruling party, Zanu PF, “enticed by the Second Republic (as Mnangagwa now call Zanu PF since taking over from Mugabe following the November 2017 military coup) development drive.”

It is important to note that Mnangagwa and his fellow November 2017 military could were quick off the mark in calling their post-coup a Second Republic in a desperate effort to distance themselves from the chaos and madness of the Mugabe era. The truth is Emmerson Mnangagwa and the rest of his coup plotters, indeed the whole new administration except for a few new faces, were not just senior members of Mugabe’s 37-year Zanu PF dictatorship but, worst of all, they are the ones who had created and imposed the dictatorship on the nation.

The November 2017 military coup has just the conclusion of the G40 vs Lactose Zanu PF factional wars, there have been many such factional wars in the past and new factions has since emerge. Mugabe and his G40 faction lost in 2017 and Mnangagwa replaced him. The Zanu PF dictatorship had a new dictator but otherwise the dictatorship itself remained untouched and so the chaos and madness continued.

Mnangagwa and his Lactose gang called themselves Second Republic because they were aware of the chaos and madness of Mugabe era and did not want to be associated with what had happened. They wanted everyone to forget the 37 years as if they had never happened. “Let bygones be bygones!” Mnangagwa has said repeatedly since the November 2017 military coup.

This is where the Shona adage, above, comes in. It will be insane for the nation to forget the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, etc., the 37-year odyssey of Mugabe dictatorship, that landed us in this economic mess and political paralysis, just because Mnangagwa has declared a Second Republic. It is all very well to turn over a new page, but if one has not learned the lessons from the past, then one is certain to repeat the same foolish mistakes.

The November 2017 military coup replace the dictator, Robert Mugabe, and a few of his very close associates; only to replace him with Emmerson Mnangagwa, a new dictator and former henchman. This was just musical chairs, the Zanu PF dictatorship with all its dictatorial powers and excesses, the mismanagement, lawlessness, etc. remained untouched.

Some people, the Journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, Media giant Trevor Ncube and Catriona Laing, UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2014 to 2018, among them; have argued that the nation should give Mnangagwa “a chance”! A chance to do what?

Since the November 2017 military coup Mnangagwa’s Second Republic has trumpeted two things, economic development with his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra. This was a lead balloon that never took off when it was clear Zimbabwe was still a pariah state or being it under a new dictator. The regime insists its development plans are working and Zimbabwe will become an upper middle-income nation by 2030, vision 2030.

When Mugabe took over from Ian Smith in 1980, he talked nonstop about mass prosperity, “gutsa ruzhinji”, for the first decade. By the 1990s it was clear the economy was in a mess, it was suffering the ill effects of the mismanage and corruption which were a result of the regime’s political patronage system and only grew worse with time. Mass prosperity quickly turned into mass poverty and in like manner Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 is just a mirage.

The Zanu PF dictatorship has turned into a 42 year odyssey into this hell-on-earth, of mass prosperity turning into mass poverty under Mugabe and now chasing a middle-income mirage under Mnangagwa, has happened precisely because the people had lost their fundamental right to remove the Zanu PF dictatorship.

The second thing Mnangagwa promised after the November 2017 coup was to hold free, fair and credible elections. No doubt, he was aware of the regime’s blatant failure and betrayals on this front.

Giving Mnangagwa “a chance”, certainly did not include giving him a chance to rig elections but that is exactly what happened in 2018!

The 2008 Zimbabwe elections have become the benchmark, illustrating the seriousness of Zanu PF’s vote rigging. In the March vote Morgan Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the votes but before the results were announce the Zanu PF vote rigging juggernauted was switched back on and Tsvangirai’s votes were whittled down to 47%, enough to force a runoff. During the runoff Zanu PF used wanton violence to punish the people for rejecting the party in the March vote. Mugabe won the runoff by a staggering 84%!

The primary purpose of the SADC sponsored 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms designed to restore the people’s freedoms and rights including ending Zanu PF’s carte blanche dictatorial powers to blatant cheat and use wanton violence to rig elections. Sadly, the MDC leaders, who were tasked to implement the reforms, failed to implement even one reform in five years.

Therefore, the acid test for Mnangagwa’s Second Republic to see whether it had broken away from its Zanu PF dictatorial bend was to implement the democratic reforms and deliver on the promise to hold free, fair and credible 2018 elections. The regime did not implement even one token reform!

Since the rigged 2018 elections, Zanu PF has, yet again, failed to implement even one meaning reform and the regime is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections.

“Seek ye first the political kingdom and all things shall be added unto you!” said Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of independent Ghana.

Zimbabwe is in this economic mess and political paralysis because we, the people, have never had any meaningly political power after the country’s independence, the ruling elite had all the power. We were coerced to trust Mugabe and now Mnangagwa and company to deliver mass prosperity without any power to remove them from office if they failed. They not only failed but did so repeatedly dragging the whole nation deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth.

“What we need is development in our area which is what the ruling party is offering, and this really told us that we should come back home!” Mr Precious Nhliziyo, the CCC defector, said.

The right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country is more than just a fundamental right, it is the very essence of good governance. Even if Mnangagwa was delivering on all his vision 2030 promises, which he is not, still one must ask why to deny the people the right to vote for you in a free, fair and credible elections?

After 42 years of economic ruin, rigged elections and tyrannical rule the number one priority for Zimbabwe is to implement democratic reforms and finally cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. Those of us who thought economic development could be achieved without good governance were wrong and must learn from the past.

UK inflation has risen to 9% vs Zim hyperinflation soaring 600% plus; they’re catching flue and we’re already coughing blood N Garikai

The soaring fuel and food prices caused, partly, by the 2019 corona virus and exasperated by the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022; have triggered serious economic problems, everyone the world over is worried.

Inflation in UK is 9% and is projected to rise to 13% by the end of the year. As feared, an impoverished nation like Zimbabwe is already coughing blood: the country’s hyperinflation has already hit 600%, the highest in the world! No one would want to hazard a guess of what the country’s hyperinflation would be next week much less in six months, what is clear is that it is growing exponentially. In 2008 it peaked at 500 billion percent!

There are many reasons why Zimbabwe is in such economic mess compared to its own neighbours such as South Africa, Zambia or Botswana. The number one reason is because Zimbabwe has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for 42 years and counting.

42 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, riotous lawlessness and ruthless political oppression, earning the country the pariah state label; have left the country in total economic ruins and political paralysis. The ruthless political oppression has created a suffocating political system in which no competent and quality leaders can survive; a sewage swamp no quality fish can survive.

In the 42 years the country has had many opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, notably during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, but has wasted all these chances. The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the country’s main opposition party of the last 22 years, including the GNU years, has failed to implement even one reform to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. Not even one! Hence the political paralysis.

Before independence, Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of the Southern Africa. The Zanu PF regime seized the white owned farms to give to party loyalists, mainly, and the country’s agricultural sector collapsed taking down with it the economy. Zimbabweans are starving in a land which is for all practical purposes the Biblical Garden of Eden; a damning testimonial of how we, Zimbabweans, have failed to govern the country.

The nation has paid dearly for our failure to govern ourselves as millions of our people have been forced into abject poverty and to suffer in dumb anguish denied their freedoms and basic human rights for 42 years and counting. And whenever there is a worldwide economic disruption, as is the case now; whilst other nations catch flue, we because our economy is already weak and feeble cough blood or worse.

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and political paralysis is the country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections- a man-made problem or to be more specific a Zanu PF and MDC/CCC made problem. Like all human-made problems, there is a human solution. We must implement the democratic reforms, MDC failed to implement during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

It is too late to implement any reforms before the 2023 elections, less than a year away. Zanu PF wants the elections to go ahead with no reforms so it can blatantly rig and secure another five years in power. CCC are hell bent on participating in the flawed elections for the same reasons they failed to implement even one reform during the GNU – greed and breathtakingly incompetent.

In the past Zanu PF has counted on Sadc, the regional body to fraudulently endorse the rigged elections and thus grant the regime legitimacy. This time we, the people must leave no stone unturned in exposing these elections for what they are – farce. Sadc, IMF, USA and more recently EU have all called for reforms before elections because they all know without reforms the elections will never be anything else but a farce. This time Sadc will have no excuse for giving Zanu PF legitimacy. None!

What Zimbabwe needs is another GNU opportunity to implement the reforms to ensure free elections and thus finally end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

“We’re winning (2023) Big! Faka pressure!” claim Chamisa – Doesn’t even know who is piling what pressure and on whom? P Guramatunhu

For the first twenty years of our independence the nation trusted the late Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies whole heartedly, they were the liberation war heroes and heroines who could do no wrong! Even at the height of the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre many ordinary Zimbabweans believed the Zanu PF propaganda because they found the truth too bitter to swallow.

Still, by the late 1990s the evidence that Mugabe and his cronies were corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs was a mountain high and impossible to ignore. The nation realised that as long as Zanu PF retained its carte blanche dictatorial powers including powers to rig the elections the nation will be stuck with the regime. The solution was to implement the democratic reforms designed to take away the regime’s dictatorial powers.

The also now late Morgan Tsvangirai and company launched their political party calling it Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), riding on the national mood and promising to deliver the democratic changes the nation was dying for. For the last 22 years the people of his Zimbabwe have risked life and limb, the price one has to pay for rejecting Zanu PF, to elect the MDC leaders into power.

After 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, MDC has failed to implement even one democratic change. Worse still, by insisting on participating in flawed and illegal elections MDC leaders have been giving Sadc the feeble excuse, “If Zimbabweans are happy with rigged elections, who are we to object!”, to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

MDC leaders were supposed to implement the democratic changes necessary to end the Zanu PF dictatorship; they not only wasted many golden opportunities to implement the reforms but, worse still, they are now the ones frustrating all those trying to get the reforms implemented. This is real the stuff of nightmares!

CCC is hell bent on participating in these flawed and illegal 2023 elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuate the dictatorship for another five more years. Nelson Chamisa, the President of the errant CCC party is even predicted resounding victory for the party.

“Authenticity is a quality created out of consistency and dependability. Winners are not whiners. Love and light fellow citizens. Blessed day #FakaPressure #Godisinit

“We’re winning Big and with a landslide! Mark this tweet.” He claimed.

“Faka pressure!” (Pile up the pressure!) Who is piling what pressure and on whom?

The only discernible pressure on Zanu PF is from the worsen economic situation. The sheer delight in Chamisa and Tendai Biti’s, in particular, voice each time he talks of the worsen economic situation is irrepressible. How CCC wish Zimbabwe’s hyperinflation would soar to the dizzying heights of 2008 in time for the 2023 elections!

The economic meltdown is piling the pressure of the ordinary people, on the coal face of the soaring cost of living and grinding poverty. What Chamisa and company are hoping for is the economic meltdown forcing the people on the street to demand change.

In other words, CCC leaders do not give a damn about the heart-breaking human suffering the worsening economic situation is causing as long as it brings about the desired result – public protests.

Chamisa and company know from the past that Zanu PF will use wanton violence to quell public protest. Again, CCC does not care how many innocent lives are lost as long as the protest delivers the regime change and get them back into power.

Zanu PF is piling up the pressure on the ordinary people mobilising the traditional leaders, war veterans and the party youth militia, they’re the foot soldiers, tasked to corral povo and sure they vote for Zanu PF candidates. The foot soldiers have back up from the army, Police and CIO, who are tasked with the heavy-duty stuff of arresting, abducting and killing political opponents.

The Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut is well-oiled and ready to deliver the usual Zanu PF landslide victory.

Whilst Sadc, IMF and more recently the EU have been piling the pressure on MDC/CCC to stop participating in these flawed and illegal elections and implement the reforms first. Chamisa and company have ignored the calls for reforms before elections for the same reasons they ignored them during the 2008 to 2013 GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence.

Chamisa and company know that Zanu PF is offering a few urban gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate regardless how flawed the election process get. MDC leaders have found the bait irresistible. Then there is the belief, MDC can win rigged elections – an oxymoron, especially after 42 years of blatantly rigged elections.

“God is in it!” How can God be involved in flawed and illegal process? By knowingly participate in flawed process and expect God to deliver victory regardless; is this not putting God to the test?

The people of Zimbabwe must accept the political reality that MDC/CCC leaders will never implement the democratic reforms, they wasted their golden opportunity to do so during the GNU. It is now for the people to demand reform before elections and put an end to the insanity of rigged election and bad governance.

SA promise hard diplomacy against Zanu PF – sweet music after decades of sell-out diplomacy W Mukori

Action SA promises “hard” diplomacy against Zanu PF to end the crisis in Zimbabwe.

“My fellow South Africans across our border. For years our government have watched whilst Zanu PF destroyed the country once capable of feeding much of Southern Africa. This crisis affects our country deeply,” said Herman Mashaba. He is the former Mayor of Johannesburg and leader of the political party Action SA.

“It is now time for a new approach. It is time for hard diplomacy. We must adopt the strongest and harshest policies against an oppressive government and not punish the people of Zimbabwe.

“This should start by freezing the assets of Zanu PF leaders in South Africa and banning them from entering our country!”

This is sweet music to every thinking Zimbabwean out there. There is no denying that South Africa’s ruling ANC governing party’s “quite diplomacy” of 1994 to 2013 followed by the “sell-out” policy, for that is exactly what it is, thereafter, have helped Zanu PF stay in power at the expense of the ordinary Zimbabweans.

Ever since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, Zanu PF rigged the elections denying the people their basic freedoms and rights including the right to free and fair elections - most fundament right and prerequisite of good governance. The AU and Sadc have turned a blind eye and endorsed the rigged elections as “substantially free and fair” giving Zanu PF political legitimacy.

Only once, in 2008 after Zanu PF had blatantly cheated and used wanton violence did Sadc and AU refuse to endorse Zanu PF’s rigged elections. Sadc, pressured Zanu PF to agree to the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) which was then tasked to implement the democratic reforms and restore the rule of law and good governance.

Sadly, the MDC led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU. Sadc leaders, notably South Africa’s Minister Lindiwe Zulu, representing Sadc who were the guarantor of the GNU, did their best to remind MDC to implement the reforms but were ignored.

In a last-minute bid to get the reforms implemented, Sadc leaders literally begged MDC leaders not to participate in the 2013 Zimbabwe elections without first implementing the reforms. “If you participate in the elections next month, you will lose. The elections are done!” they warned.

Yet again, Tsvangirai and company ignored the warning and participated in the elections. As expected, Zanu PF blatantly rigged the election. And, in a shocking and shameless volte-face, Sadc endorsed the elections as “substantially free and fair” which they had condemned as “done” (rigged) only the previous month.

The political consequences of Sadc endorsing the Zanu PF rigged elections is giving the regime legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship. Zimbabwe has been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for 42 years and counting with the tragic political economic and social consequences there for all to see.

Zanu PF misrule has pushed Zimbabwe to the very edge of the precipitous abyss. Another rigged election and another term of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship might well push the nation over the edge. There is a real danger that Zimbabwe will drag many other nations down the abyss with her!

Without even one token reform implement since the rigged 2013 and 2018 elections, it is already clear that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging the 2023 elections. What everyone is waiting to see is whether Sadc will pursue their sell-out policy of endorsing rigged elections and give Zanu PF legitimacy, especially South Africa, Botswana and Zambia who have a history of holding free and fair elections themselves; and thus by the hand giving Zimbabwe the final push over the edge!

There is no denying that Sadc’s sell-out policy of endorsement Zanu PF rigged elections has been at the heart of the regime’s contemptuous disregard of the people’s democratic wish for good governance. It is the ordinary Zimbabweans who have paid dearly for this folly. It is time to stop the sell-out. It is time for hardnosed diplomacy!
