Zanu PF got away with vote rigging because it was "blest with fools for opposition"!

In a court of law, everything that Nathaniel Manheru (the Herald columnist, many believe is Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba) says would be struck off the record because everyone knows he is one of Mugabe’s well paid propagandist s and pathological liars. He is guilty of everything under the sun to qualify him as untrustworthy. It would, therefore, be a great miscarriage of justice to condemn anyone on the strength of Manheru’s testimony.
He is the type who will swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth and proceed to lie through and through!
“Thank God, Zanu-PF is always blest with fools for opposition. Even after exposing itself so disastrously, Zanu-PF gets by way of oppositional response a Morgan Tsvangirai who asks from a British Africa Minister for intervention in Zimbabwe,” wrote Manheru in his latest Herald column.

He did not swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God before he wrote that. And yet there it is; the truth from the pathological liar! He has just proven the old adage that even the devil will tell the truth. In this case Manheru is saying the obvious truth that only the blind MDC loyalists have been denying even with the benefit of hindsight!
In blatantly rigging the July 2013 elections Zanu PF did indeed “expose itself so disastrously”.  Even someone who had never followed Zimbabwe politics was surprised to see all those bussed voters on TV. Why would so many young men and women be bussed in to vote when none of the old voters needed such assistance? And why was it that only the opposition were concerned about this and not the Police or other elections officials?
Our casual observer was surprised to hear that one million voters had failed to vote because their names, although on the national voters roll, had been posted in another constituency roll and not where they expected. The casual observer’s suspicions was roused when he/she learnt that Zanu PF “won” by a margin of one million! Suspicion turned into outrage when they learnt that Zanu PF had failed to produce the voters roll although they were legally obliged to do so at least a month before the elections.
It is now a year since the elections and still the regime has failed to release the voters roll.
The voters roll is the smoking gun in Zimbabwe’s July 2013 rigged elections.
Yes, it is possible for the names of few hundred voters to be posted in the wrong constituencies but not one million or 30% of the cast votes! A close scrutiny of the voters roll would high light other mysteries like how a country of 12 million ended up with 6 million registered voters. The only logical explanation for all the irregularities and mysteries is that there was systematic and blatant vote rigging!
Yes, in rigging the 2013 elections, Mugabe and Zanu PF left themselves seriously compromised and exposed.  The only reason they have got away with all this electoral fraud is the breath-taking incompetence of the opposition.
Our casual election observer would have been disgusted to know that the MDC led by Dr Morgan Tsvangirai had agreed to take part in the elections without implementing even one of the reforms that would have stopped Mugabe rigging the elections. MDC had been warned about the need to implement the reforms repeatedly throughout the five year life of the GNU but paid no heed.
Yes, MDC, agreed for the elections to go ahead without a voters roll!
“Thank God, Zanu-PF is always blest with fools for opposition,” sighed our devilish propagandist Manheru.  One can only imagine how many, many times Mugabe and his cronies have said the same over the years.
It is one thing acknowledging the incompetence of the opposition amongst themselves but quite another to do so publicly. The thrust of Manheru’s article was in fact to castigate Deputy Justice Minister, Fortune Chasi, who last week broke the party’s cardinal rule by admitting the party rigged last year’s elections. Manheru accused the deputy minister of astonishingly deciding “to acknowledge and validate” the vote rigging.
“We have overwhelming numbers of opposition figures who have acknowledged defeat which we seem now keen to deny them ourselves,” argued Manheru. In other words Zanu PF has the great fortune of having opposition fools who have foolishly given credibility to an otherwise discredited electoral process the party should cash in on their foolishness.
The basic reality that our devilish propagandist is overlooking is that Zimbabwe is not an island; the rest of the world too saw the blatant vote rigging and they are not as easily bamboozled into accepting such fraudulent acts as the MDC fools. The single message that has come through ever since Zanu PF won the elections a year ago is that the donors and investors have all lost confidence in a Zanu PF ruled Zimbabwe as a country they can do business with.
The world’s vote of no confidence in Zanu PF is exemplified by the mockingly empty ZimAsset begging bowl in spite of a whole year of frantic begging by Mugabe and everyone in Zanu PF. Not even Manheru, the chief spin-doctor, has spun a plausible explanation why even the Chinese have flatly refused to contribute even one Yuan with which to rattle the bowl!

If Zanu PF cannot rig economic recovery the same way it rigged electoral victory then the party’s continued hold on power will be shaky. A year after the rigged elections and the economy got progressively worse, not better, and the prognosis is that it will get even worse. It seems that it will be easier to keep an ice cube in one’s hand from melting than for Mugabe and Zanu PF to hang on to power in the face of the economic meltdown Zimbabwe is going through! Being “blest with fools for opposition” will not save Mugabe and Zanu PF; not this time!

Yes, Manheru has Americanised the word bless but you cannot deny the fact that he was right that Zanu PF has been “blest with fools for opposition” and the whole nation has paid dearly for it!

Next time it will be S W Radio Africa to Open and they will be transmitting from a democratic Zimbabwe!

Thank you Gerry and all those who have worked and contributed to make S W radio Africa the success it was. You will never know how many minds you opened and now they can see!

@ Dr Dumiso Dabengwa
“Rest assured that your Party, ZAPU, continues the struggle to realise and implement the values and vision of our Liberation Struggle which Joshua Nkomo infused in us,” you say? Well every Zimbabwean would indeed be “rest assured” if it was true.

Ever since the signing of the unity accords with Zanu PF in 1987 what has PF Zapu leader done to stop the Mugabe juggernaut from destroying the country’s economy and denying our people the fruits of freedom, liberty and human rights and dignity? Nothing. Once PF Zapu leaders got on the gravy train they forgot about stopping the Zanu PF juggernaut and the suffering masses, just as MDC leaders have done during the GNU.

Dr Dabengwa, you were Minister of Home Affairs for donkey years and the Police continued to behave in its pro Zanu PF partisan manner, harassing, beating and even murdering all those who dared exercise their basic right to have a meaningful say in the governance of the country whilst turning a blind eye to Zanu PF thuggery. The system helped you stay in power and you had your share of the looted wealth. Only after you fell out with Mugabe did you see him as a corrupt and murderous tyrant he is.

Sir, are you fighting Mugabe and Zanu PF because you care about justice and human dignity or, like Tsvangirai, you just want to secure your old seat back on the gravy train?! It will be folly for the people of Zimbabwe to ever trust people like you and Tsvangirai ever again!

Tendai Biti is playing the divisive regional card in which we are all to feel that our region was worse off than all the others and thus start looking for only these things that will help our region regardless of what the rest of the nation wants.

Is Biti saying he going to electrify every hut and growth point in Binga, Lupane, Tsholotsho, etc, radiating down in a wave whose centre is Hwange Power Station, for example. He will do that before making sure there is power to Sable Chemicals who make fertilizers for the whole nation and before restoring supplies to Bulawayo and other centres? The idiot is doing just what Mugabe did in Zvimba.

The truth is the big nice houses Mugabe built for his relatives are all in varying stages of decay and rot because his relative were too poor to afford a replacement light bulb much less pay the ZESA bills!

In his desperation to remain relevant Biti is now playing divisive regional politics for his own selfish political gain. No nation can not afford this!

@ Kimbia haraka

Biti is calling Mugabe a dictator now but called him "unflappable and father of the nation" when he was in the GNU which of course explains why he did not implement the reforms. It is only now that Biti was kicked off the gravy train that he notices the suffering of the masses and see Mugabe as the corrupt and murderous tyrant he is.

What makes you sure that if Biti was to return to power he will not once again see Mugabe as unflappable, etc.? Or are you so naive you did not even notice the change?

If Zimbabwe is ever going to get out of this political mess then we will need people who are going to be alert and vigilant all the time and not vote and then go to sleep and wake up just to vote again. For only someone who has been fast asleep throughout the GNU would call Biti "reasonable".

Tendai Biti was the brains behind MDC everyone thought so too until the party failed to imple-ment the reforms. Only a first class idiot would have failed to see the importance of the reforms in bringing about meaningful democratic change in Zimbabwe. Not even one reform was imple-mented by MDC, not one. SADC and others warned the party against taking part in the elections without implementing the reforms but no one paid heed even Tendai Biti, the brains behind MDC.

Anyone who see the likes of Tendai Biti as serious players in Zimbabwe politics after his breath-taking incompetence throughout the GNU only highlight their own incompetence - if they cannot see Biti's incompetence now with the benefit of hindsight, they will never ever see it!

Zimbabwe has Professors, Doctors, University Graduates in every field under the sun and a president with seven University Degrees; sadly most of these highly qualified individuals have any common sense. If they did then the nation would certainly not be in such a pickle.

The entry into the political fray by Grace and now her son Robert Jr is for political power but the for economic reasons too. The country’s economic meltdown has been like a ten-year drought; first it was the grass that suffered, then the small bushes; then trees and now even the thousand year old giants whose root go down hundreds of metres are feel-ing the drought.
Zanu PF grandees like the late Nathan Shamuyarira have been living in abject poverty for decades. His standing in the party counted for nothing. If Mugabe was to die Grace and her son will be nothing more than the wife and son of the former president. The party will forget them just as quickly as it forgot the late Shamuyarirai.
Whoever becomes the next president, he or she would want accept the nonsense that the Mugabes should be left to live in the Blue Roof mansion when everyone knows it was taxpayers dollars that paid for it!
The only sure way Mugabe can be sure the Blue Roof mansion and all the other looted wealth stay in the family is by making sure Grace becomes president or, at the very least, she hold the balance of power to be the king-maker.
Mugabe’s bold move to position Grace to take power may have finally spooked Mai Mu-juru and/or Minister Mnangagwa, whom he has treated all these years as if they were kindergarten head-girl and head-boy, to make a decisive move of their own – for the first time ever to openly defy Mugabe and challenge his authority. What do they have to lose, now the tyrant is denying them the presidency, one thing that had forced them to bite their tongue all these years and put up with all that s****t from the tyrant? Nothing!
In his attempt to secure his wife’s future Mugabe may have unwittingly precipitated the collapse of Zanu PF and the end of his own rule. No freedom loving Zimbabwean will shed a tear over that one!

@ El Calbrito

What are you wittering about there was not even one draft proposal made on the reforms or are you suggesting that a decision was also made not to draft anything.

There is something called principles; implementing the reforms was so important any man or woman worth his or her salt would have stood firm on this one.

The truth is they did not implement the reforms because MDC leaders had their snouts in the feeding trough and it would not have been right to upset Mugabe who had allowed them on the gravy train. "Vakadzidza kudya vanyerere," as one Zanu PF crony pithily remarked. The other reason is that they are breathtakingly incompetent!

“If you discount Biti whom do you have in mind because at the end of the day someone has to lead the country?” you ask. Do you want to tell me Zimbabwe cannot find any one better to lead than a proven incompetent village idiot? Or is it that you are mentally too lazy to look?

Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because we have some of the laziest people on earth; millions of Zimbabweans out there have yet to ask the question why the July 2013 elections not free, fair and credible as Tsvangirai, Biti and the rest had promised? They are just too lazy to ask. There were serious mistakes made during the GNU but because people are too lazy to find out the nation in plunging head log to make the same mistake again – elect the same proven incompetent village idiots to remove Mugabe. Of course, it will not happen!

@whichfool

So you think Zanu PF are the serious players? Well let them rig economic recovery then?

It is the "Economy Stupid!" alright that will decide who is the serious player and who is not!

@ Sala

Biti and the other MDC leaders were tripping over each other praising Mugabe during the GNU; that is a historic fact. Their praising would not have mattered if the MDC had gone on to imple-ment the democratic reforms as promised. They failed to get even one reform implemented that is what matters here.

The reforms were meant to ensure the people of Zimbabwe would decide who ruled the nation in a free, fair and credible elections and not leave it to Mugabe “hand over” to someone or other when it suits him.

Zimbabwe Light said...

There is one aspect one should not forget in all this, "the economy stupid" as Bill Clinton once said. Mugabe and Zanu PF have failed to rig economic recovery and exemplified by the empty ZimAsset begging bowl in spite of the years of frantic begging. The economic meltdown is biting hard; many cities have no running water, unemployment is now 95% plus and even government cannot find enough money to pay civil servant much less for anything else. And things are getting worse not better. It is clear the nation cannot go on like this.

Mugabe will have to accept free and fair elections or he will be forced out of power.

Everyone knows Zanu PF has no chance of winning free and fair elections. So whoever takes after Mugabe as the leader of Zanu PF will never be president and so the party's succession battles are academic really!

We should not forget this debate would be academic even now if MDC had not been so breathtakingly incompetent and implemented the reforms so the July 2013 elections had been free, fair and credible!
