"Register to vote" says MDC Ncube - Mugabe's dice has 6 on all sides, for Pete's sake. N Garikai

For the last 37 years the country has been on a steady path of economic ruin and political paralysis and if we are going to get out of this hell-hole, we need to start thinking and stop doing the same foolish things that landed us in the mess in the first place.

The MDC Women Assembly “calls upon all women of Zimbabwe to take a stand in response to the hardships and misery inflicted on citizens by the ruthless Zanu PF government by registering to vote in preparation for the 2018 general elections.

“By registering to vote women have the power to change the tide in Zimbabwean politics and are better armed to fight for women’s rights and equality”

This is just the kind of stupidity the nation has come to expect from our corrupt and incompetent political leaders.

We are stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime for all these years because it rigs elections; what will it take these MDC politicians to finally accept this simple political reality.

In 2008 Tsvangirai won 73% of the vote by President Mugabe’s own admission but he ordered ZEC to recount the votes and after six weeks of cooking up the vote announced the new result giving Tsvangirai 47%. In the presidential run-off that followed President Mugabe used wanton violence to force the people to vote for him; he overturned Tsvangirai’s 73% to win with a warping 85% of the vote.

In the 2013 elections Zanu PF used other vote rigging tactics such as deliberately posting the person details of mainly opposition supporters in constituent voters roll other than the one the individual expected. Nearly one million voters were denied the vote that year. President Mugabe’s winning margin was just over a million.

The historic data on Zanu PF’s vote rigging ability is so varied, complex and thorough it is impossible to see how the regime can lose any election it is allowed to rig! Zanu PF is not just playing with a loaded dice it is using a dice with six on all sides! It is foolish to bet against Zanu PF throwing a six!

MDC leaders like Senator David Coltart, Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga, party leader Welshman Ncube, etc. were all in the GNU and failed to implement even one democratic reform designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. The party has had the last four years since the rigged July 2013 elections to digest the facts and finally admit the party had made a serious mistake. If the party is not going to admit it sold-out during the GNU, it should at least be calling on the people to demand the implementation of reforms.

Calling on the people to register and contest next year’s elections with not even one reform in place is telling the nation to bet on Mugabe throwing anything but a six when one knows the tyrant’s dice has six on all six sides. Ncube and company asked the people to bet on Mugabe losing the 2013 elections and the nation lost and we are all paying for it with the worsening economic situation.

The economic situation is now so bad that unemployment has soared to 95% and millions now live in abject poverty, many are dying of hunger and/or disease.

MDC know that they are asking the nation to once again bet on Mugabe failing to throw another six in the 2018 elections and what is at stake is the worsening economic situation, human misery and human lives! This is totally irresponsible, MDC know registering to vote will not stop Mugabe throwing a six.

MDC is not advancing the interest of the women and the girl child, without doubt the most disadvantaged in society, or those of the nation at large by asking us all to continue betting in an electoral contest we know will be rigged! If we are ever going to end the Zanu PF misrule we must implement the democratic reforms to stop the vote rigging, there is no other way out.

“By registering to vote women have the power to change the tide in Zimbabwean politics!” Yeah, right. What a waste of time, breathe, space, everything!

How does one "take a stand against Mugabe" by voting in a flawed election that will only help him stay in power?

MDC leaders contested the 2013 elections confident that the opposition would defeat Zanu PF although they were warned that was not going to happen, not whilst President Mugabe has the licence to rig the elections. The same leaders are asking the nation to do this again next year!

We are not "taking a stand against Mugabe" by doing the same stupid things again and and again expecting a different result!

Zanu PF behind Shona, Ndebele tension says US report.

The continuing economic decline is the one driving the wedge between the tribes, regions and even families.

This is the nonsense we have come to expect from CIO operatives designed to convince the naive and gullible Tsvangirai and his supporters that they do not need to implement any democratic reforms because they can still win the elections with not even one reform in place. Come the election Zanu PF wins with a landslide.

In the March 2008 elections Tsvangirai won 73% of the vote, by President Mugabe's own admission. Of course the tyrant did not want to accept that result and so asked ZEC to recount and after six weeks of cooking the figures it reduced Tsvangirai's vote to a more manangeable 47%. President Mugabe launched his operation "Mavhotera papi!" which turned out to be more ruthless than the three phase Mao Zedong Guerrilla strategy being proposed here because Mugabe overturned Tsvangirai's 73% vote in March to a massive 85% vote for himself in July. That must constitute one of the greatest vote swings in four months in election history!

We are being told that Joice Mujuru has inside information of how Zanu PF rigs elections and that she will take away nearly half of Zanu PF's supporters, etc. and yet during the recent Bikita West by-elections we did not see any of these things. All we saw is Mujuru blundering in her characteristic way befitting the incompetent character she is. A week after the by-election her party imploded!

All this talk of the opposition winning the flawed elections in which Zanu PF has the licence to rig the vote is pure nonsense. We need to implement the reforms and stop wasting time, money and human misery and lives contesting flawed elections.

If we continue in this foolish path and listen to Nyambiya and his Mao nonsense then we will only have ourselves to blame as Zanu PF have another landslide victory. Nyambiya will quietly collect his fat cheque from Zanu PF and go into hiding!

You have laboured the point that we are living in the past because the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime robbed us of the present and future. After all that you, ask us to dive right back into the very system that landed us in the mess!

"Not ignoring what she used to be (which is only being part of a flawed system), Mujuru is a very remarkable character — fit even for the highest office," you said.

In one breath, you accept Mai Mujuru is flawed and yet still consider her fit for high office. It is this stupid mentality that landed us in the mess in the first place and, unless we acknowledge it and wash it out of our thinking, will keep us there forever!

@ Chenhamo

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Zanu PF will rig the next elections and the only way to stop it is making sure all the reforms are implemented.

The pressure to have the democratic reforms implemented before the elections in mounting. The British are too calling for reforms "ahead of elections" and dismissing MDC-T and friends' foolish notion of contesting elections with no reforms in place; just as SADC had done before the 2013 elections.

Of course, Zanu PF does not want to have any of the reforms implemented and therefore going all out to promote the idea that the opposition can still win the elections with no reform in place. Zanu PF is getting real desperate and we are going to see PR companies, Polling companies like Africa Barometer, etc. coming out with reports, polling data, etc. all suggesting that Tsvangirai has all but won the 2018 elections; all he has to do is just have his name in the hat!

The complex web of lies we waive once we start lying!

“What is sad in most of these cases of persecution and abuse of women is that men find willing accomplices in some of our own fellow women. This was the case in Zimbabwe where those at the forefront of sidelining me were fellow women. This is a cancer that we must deal with as women if we are to advance in various leadership positions,” Mujuru told the London conclave.

How many times has Mai Mujuru said she was kicked out of Zanu PF because she was the reformer who had dared criticise the regime. Today she wants us to believe it was Zanu PF women who were “at the forefront” of her downfall.

The fundamental truth is Mai Mujuru was booted out of Zanu PF kicking and screaming; she would be in the party right now playing her party in the corrupt and tyrannical regime and getting her lion’s share of the looted wealth. She is corrupt and incompetent and that is more than enough to disqualify her for high office regardless of whether she had remained in Zanu PF or not!

The British's call to implement the reforms before the elections is in line with what SADC was saying to MDC before the 2013 elections. Tsvangirai and company refused to listen then and they are doing the same now.

The opposition maintains that as long as they form the grand coalition and mobilise voter registration they will defeat Zanu PF. Zanu PF cannot afford to have the reforms implemented and it is no surprise the regime is stepping up efforts to sell the idea of the opposition winning even if there are no reforms. We can expect more detailed University research papers, PR reports, etc. selling this notion in the coming months. What the researchers, PR gurus, etc. cannot falsify is the fact that Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections and will do so again unless the reforms are implemented.

Grace Mugabe is so confident of a Zanu PF victory she even boasting of winning even if her husband's copse was the Zanu PF candidate. She will not be so sure if she knew the elections are going to be free, fair and credible!

Indeed, it the elections are going to be free and fair President Mugabe would not want to contest because such elections would be the country's first free and fair elections and Mugabe knows that he will lose the elections hands down!

As for Mai Mujuru being given this award, people can dish out awards to whoever they wish. The British knighted President Mugabe after he had murdered over 20 000 in the Gukurahundi massacres alone. Mai Mujuru was at the very heart of that regime and so why not reward her too! The people of Zimbabwe have good reason to want to see Mai Mujuru, President Mugabe and all the other Zanu PF leaders punished for the wealth they have looted, the elections they have rigged and the innocent blood they have shed.

Awarding some one who has caused so much suffering and deaths is an insult to the victims and the nation at large! A point the people of Zimbabwe will do well never to forget!
