“There are some economic saboteurs who want people to revolt against the Government through price madness. How do you think the anomalies can be addressed?” asked Herald reporter Joseph Madzimure.
“The issue of prices is double-edged sword because the people expect the Government to act through price controls, yet the Government is working tirelessly to address the anomalies,” answered Victor Matemadanda
“We have a political party which thrives on the suffering of people and this is a challenge that we have, therefore, because Government is on an investment drive, we cannot be seen to be controlling prices, but our people are being hurt by the prices.
“My proposal, which I am going to take to the authorities, is that we need to put systems in place, which will conscientise people that there is what is known as consumer power. We have one country and we should learn to respect our country and the institutions of Government. We cannot behave like a lawless society where everyone can do whatever they want. The national anthem, Parliament, the President should be respected.”
In other words, Matemadanda has no clue what is causing the price increases and, not surprising, no clue what to do to solve it.
He is a senior member of the ruling party Zanu PF and occupies a senior position in government, he is the party’s commissar and a deputy minister, it is therefore not too much to expect him to know what is causes price increase. One would expect him to at least repeat some of the solutions proffered in the party and cabinet. The truth is that none of the other senior party and government leaders, including such luminaries as Minister of Finance, Professor Mthuli Ncube, have said anything to suggest they have a clue what they are talking about. None.
Having no clue what one is talking about has never stopped arrogant Zanu PF leaders giving a Sermon on the Mount. Matemadanda blamed “political party that thrives on the suffering of the people”, etc.; none of which will stop the price increases. So until we get leaders who understand our economic problems and can proffer working solutions our economic problems such as price increases are here to stay.
Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the nation has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF regime these last 39 years. The people have long come to the conclusion that Zanu PF leaders are corrupt and incompetent, they have no clue what they are doing, but have failed to remove them from power because the party rigged the elections.
“We have one country and we should learn to respect our country and the institutions of Government. We cannot behave like a lawless society where everyone can do whatever they want.” That is rich coming from a regime that has no respect of law, the people and even human lives. Zanu PF blatantly rigged last year’s elections denying the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country and shot dead 7 people for daring to protest against yet another rigged elections.
