The MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa member the UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe on Wednesday. The later has said the meeting was “fruitful”.
“We continue to engage across the political spectrum to understand how the United Kingdom can best support Zimbabweans,” Ambassador Robinson wrote on Twitter.
Every thinking Zimbabweans welcomes the British government’s efforts in the search for a way out of the mess Zimbabwe is in.
Of all people the British, will readily agree that Zimbabwe is in this mess because of 40 years of blundering from pillar to post; very often, repeating the same foolish mistake over and over again. Zimbabwe’s mess is a man-made problem.
The solution for the country to get out of the mess is to stop making the same foolish mistakes over and over again - self-evident and common sense. But after 40 years of blundering, common sense is not to be taken for granted. What the people of Zimbabwe need to hear, above all else, is some basic home truths; please do not assume it is obvious and therefore does not need to be spelt out.
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends have been calling for the formation of a Zanu PF and MDC National Transition Authority (NTA), a new GNU in all but name. Chamisa et al are fishing for cabinet positions in the NTA complete with the ministerial limos, generous salaries, etc.
They claim the NTA will also implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. The 2008 GNU, which had the support of SADC, failed to implement even one reform in five years.
Indeed, it was none other than Nelson Chamisa and his MDC colleagues who sold-out and failed to implement even one reform. It is naive, to say the least, to expect them to do any better.
As for Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies, they will never ever reform themselves out of office. Never ever!
Zimbabwe needs an interim administration, call it NTA, GNU or whatever, that will be tasked to implement the democratic reforms necessary for the holding of free, fair and credible elections. Both Zanu PF and MDC A must step down to create the political space for the new administration.
To get out of the mess Zimbabwe is in, the country needs a complete overhaul of its rotten political system. Both Zanu PF and MDC A are part of the rot and hence the reason they cannot be part of the solution.
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A are on a mission to drum up support for the Zanu PF and MDC A led NTA. By not saying nothing on the subject after the Wednesday meeting, it will be assumed the British are supportive of the MDC A proposal.
“A NTA in which Zanu PF and MDC A play a part is a repeat of the 2008 GNU and therefore a waste of time. Zimbabwe needs a working solution to end the economic and political crisis and not to keep repeating the past mistakes!” Ambassador Robinson should have twittered.
The best help the British or anyone else out there can give Zimbabwe right now is to tell Zimbabweans what we NEED to hear and not what we want to hear!

Chamisa is on a mission to drum up support for his proposed NTA as a solution to the growing crisis. Ambassador Robinson must know that by saying nothing on this matter it will be assumed that the British support this proposal. It must be stated here and now that an NTA in which Zanu PF and MDC play a part will never implement the democratic reforms. Never!
Of all the people, the British know a Zanu PF led NTA will be a waste of time and so why are they stringing us along?
If the British or anyone else for that matter will not tell us what we NEED to hear to get out of this hell-on-earth we have landed ourselves in then they must be told in no uncertain terms to do the only honourable thing left - shut up!
It is bad enough to have to fight Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF thugs on the one hand and Nelson Chamisa and his banded MDC mongooses whose greed and incompetence has landed the nation in this mess without having to take on some idiotic foreigners who would not wish any of the Zimbabwe madness on themselves!
Everyone knows that Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections and that, in participating in the flawed and illegal elections, Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A mongooses gave the Zanu PF regime legitimate. Zimbabwe cannot afford to keep this Zanu PF regime and its MDC A acolytes in power one more day.
After all the suffering and deaths Zanu PF and MDC A have brought upon this nation; it really is intolerable that they should hold this nation to ransom for one more day. No one should give these murderous thugs and sell-out the inkling that they can extend their stay in power for another day much less that they will be welcome!
Both Mnangagwa and Chamisa need to be told in no uncertain terms that they must step down. They must go without any more further ado! GO! VAMOS!
@ Prisca Ncube
“An NTA should never be a group of politicians: we need technocrats to take this country and develop without politics: in that period reforms will be possible creating a level playing field for all interested parties including Zanu PF.”
Could not agree with you more. We have had a NTA in which Zanu PF and MDC were the key already and they failed to implement even one token reform. Not one!
Of course, both Zanu PF and MDC A are determined that they must be the ones to rule regardless of their track record of failure and the certainty they will not implement any reforms this time either. After 40 years of rigged elections and total destruction of the nation’s economy it is insane to still want to give those murderous thugs and sell-outs another day in power.
@ Mbofana
Mnangagwa talks endless about Zanu PF's liberation war heroism, that is 40 years ago. And yet he will not talk about Gukurahundi, the wanton violence of 2008 and not even the shoot to kill order of 1 st August 2018! Worst of all he does not want anyone else to talk about Gukurahundi, etc.
The truth is Gukurahundi is more relevant to us today than the liberation war because it was the former that gave rise to the de facto one-party dictatorship ruling the roost to this day! We must refuse to let Mnangagwa dictate to us what we must talk about much less think about.
This is just nonsense! The people of Zimbabwe must open their eyes and see Nelson Chamisa for what he is - corrupt, incompetent and a sell-out!
“We want a lasting solution to our challenges and that means ensuring comprehensive reforms of our political system so that future elections are varied out without the controversy of the past,” he says.
The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect Chamisa and his MDC banded mongoose into power and after 20 years on the political stage, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC has failed to implement even one democratic reform. Not one.
Many people begged, literally, Chamisa et al not to participate in the July 2018 elections without the reforms and MDC paid no heed. “MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections,” Chamisa boasted.
Worst of all, by participating in the flawed and illegal elections MDC and the rest of the opposition opportunists gave the election process credibility and, by extension, the vote rigging Zanu PF regime some modicum of legitimacy. What is infuriating about it all is that the opposition politicians knew this before hand. They also knew that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats as bait to entice the opposition to participate; this is what the opposition politicians were fighting each other for.
MDC leaders wasted the best chance to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU because their had their snouts in the feeding trough enjoying the trappings of power. They have since abandoned the fight for free, fair and credible elections and settled for the gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away in return for MDC’s continued participation in flawed elections.
Zimbabwe needs a complete overhaul of its rotten political system and those who believe Zanu PF and MDC can be trusted to overhaul the system are naive. Zanu PF and MDC will never reform themselves out of office! Never!
@ Tawanda Zinyama
“THAT Zimbabwe's socio-economic and political environment continues to worsen is undeniable. The question is how can Zimbabwe salvage herself from the abyss and forestall her implosion?
The standoff between the major political actors, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa, has culminated in economic and political stagnation, as the two protagonists continue to pull in different directions. It would be a political blooper for both leaders to fail to design a modus vivendi that neutralises the socio-economic-political toxicity obtaining in Zimbabwe.
For policy programmes to succeed, both political and economic, there should at least be the restoration of trust between the governed and the governing.”
We are in this mess because we have been stuck for 40 years and counting with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship that rigged elections to extend its stay in power against the wishes of the people.
Yes the country had some golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship but these were wasted by the breathtakingly corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless opposition.
If you understand the two historic facts then the suggestion that Zanu PF and MDC will rescue the nation is as pathetic as appointing a hyena midwife to a goat!
Zanu PF has the majority in parliament, if the party has sound economic policies the country would not be in this mess. A ruling party with a comfortable 2/3 majority does not need the opposition’s trust or to pull in the same directions. All these MDC “Jecha musadza!” (Throwing sand in the food!) threats is all nonsense!
Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections, the regime is illegitimate and it must step down. We are done with appeasing Zanu PF thugs!
