ANC envoy leave after meeting Zanu PF and no one else - rightly so too, what is there new to say N Garikai

The ANC envoy has flown back to SA after meeting the Zanu PF leaders. They did not meet any other party leaders although they had said otherwise.

“ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has announced that they will return to meet the opposition MDC Alliance, ZAPU and Transform Zimbabwe among other stakeholders who requested to meet with them,” reported Zimeye.

Frankly, as regards these SA envoys meetings, some people have made a mountain out of a mole hill! What is new that Zanu PF, MDC A, etc. can tell the envoy on the Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis that is not on the public domain already?

Even if there is something new that MDC A or any of the other stakeholders would want to tell our SA friends, they can still go ahead and say it. Let us have all the facts on the table so we have a well informed public debate on a matter of great national importance. No more of this “for your ears only” nonsense!

The South Africans knows already that Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A are gunning for a power sharing arrangement with Zanu PF where Chamisa and a few others will get cabinet posts, for example. Chamisa insists that this time, unlike during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, his party will implement “comprehensive democratic reforms to ensure future elections are free, fair and credible”.

Whilst the South Africans have Chamisa’s attention they would do well to ask why MDC failed to implement even one reform during the 2008 GNU? It would only be a rhetorical question because we all know the answer to that - MDC leaders sold-out big time.

Robert Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office; ministerial limos, generous salaries and allowance, endless overseas trips, etc., etc.; all rained down on Chamisa and company like confetti at a wedding. In return, the MDC leaders threw all the reforms out of the window!

“MDC leaders were busy enjoying themselves during the GNU, they forgot why they were there!” remarked one SADC diplomat in disgust at MDC leaders’ failure to implement even one reform in five years.

One would really have to be naive to believe MDC A will not sell-out again and implement “comprehensive reforms” this time, particularly when Zanu PF will have its 2/3 MP majority plus many other tramp cards beside.

To end Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis, one has to first acknowledge that Zimbabwe’s July 2018 elections were rigged; to pretend otherwise is a waste of time. If you accept the elections were rigged, it follows that the country had no legitimate government post the July 2018 elections and therefore needs a transitional government to transition from the current illegitimacy back to legitimacy.

The primary task of the transitional government will be to implement the democratic reforms necessary to ensure the next elections are free, fair and credible, producing a legitimate government and not a repeat of the flawed and illegal July 2018 elections.

Zanu PF and MDC cannot play a role in the transition government; definitely not. They were in the 2008 GNU that failed to implement even one of the democratic reform. They are plenty of other Zimbabweans, with the help from SADC and the UN, who can be entrusted this important task of implement the reforms.

The only reason President Ramaphosa would request a meeting with Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies will be to warn them that SA be endorsing the position that Zimbabwe’s July 2018 elections were not free, fair and credible, that Zanu PF is illegitimate and must step down. That is bomb shell and it would only be kind to warn Mnangagwa before dropping it! As for the rest, Chamisa, etc.; President Ramaphosa does not need to meet every man and his dog!

2. Crime and corruption must be confronted head on by both Parties.

3. There will be increased consolidation gains of the liberation struggle

4. There has been a consensus between the two Parties to work together on addressing the challenge of fake news

5. New values of openness and honesty have been emphasised

6. Sanctions and embargoes are one of the biggest problems for Zimbabwe.

7. Aspirations of the people are at the centre of our priorities

8. The two Parties have Agreed to empower their citizens on both sides of the border.

9. There has been an agreement by both Parties to meet regularly.

10. The two Parties have resolved to cooperate on issues of common interest.

If this is a true record of what ANC and Zanu PF official discussed then it was a complete waste of time. ANC officials were bamboozles into believing what Zanu PF wanted them to believe - i.e. everything is fine in Zimbabwe, there is no crisis.

In short, there is no crisis in Zimbabwe and Zanu PF has once again send back the ANC envoy with their tails tacked between their legs after they were bamboozled into submission. The so called crisis in Zimbabwe was all fake news!!!!

ANC will from henceforth join Zanu PF is fighting fake news.

In short, it was a wasted opportunity and one Zimbabwe will pay dearly for because the crisis is not going away. The people are being boxed into a corner and leaving them with no other way out other than violent uprising!

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and political brutality to silence dissent is the country’ s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. The nation has been stuck with this incompetent and corrupt Zanu PF dictatorship for 40 years and the decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have left the country in economic ruins. The people have been wringing their fingers, totally helpless to do anything to stop the criminal waste of material and human resources because Zanu PF rigged elections.

The key to ending Zimbabwe’s crisis is implementing the democratic reforms and take away Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers to rig elections.

Why President Ramaphosa endorsed Zimbabwe’s July 2018 as “Gone well!” and thus accepted Zanu PF as the legitimate government beggars belief. It was, without doubt one of the most foolish things he has ever done and now he is hamstrung. He can end the Zimbabwe crisis.

“The only reason President Ramaphosa would request a meeting with Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies will be to warn them that SA will be endorsing the position that Zimbabwe's July 2018 elections were not free, fair and credible, that Zanu PF is illegitimate and must step down. That is bomb shell and it would only be kind to warn Mnangagwa before dropping it!” you said.

Of course, President Ramaphosa and his ANC friends know Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections, they were stupid enough to endorse the rigged elections and admitting to their own stupidity is a bridge too far!

In short, we have a vote rigging and therefore illegitimate Zanu PF regime in Harare determined to stay in power even at the price of dragging the country into the abyss. The Zanu PF thugs have got them cheer leaders in SA who know Zanu PF is holding Zimbabwe to ransom but will not say so because they a too stupid to admit their initial stupid decision of endorse Zanu PF’s election victory.

@ Zamchiya

“One easy way is to simply dismiss the delegation as a solidarity squad on a mission to save a sister party and sink the citizens' aspirations. I choose to take a different view. The actors and nature of the delegation possibly reveal the ANC's current thinking about the crisis.

The very act of dispatching a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe amid the COVID-19 pandemic is an indication that the ANC is not satisfied by Zanu-PF's narratives that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe but just difficulties. In their view, it seems Zanu-PF is being dishonest if not lying about the nature, breadth and depth of Zimbabwe's problems. If the ANC was satisfied that there is no crisis, then they could not have bothered to send such a high-level delegation.”

Your whole analysis is flawed from start to finish as it is premised on the assumption that ANC is sending the envoy to hear from Zanu PF and all the other Zimbabwean stakeholders what are the causes of Zimbabwe’s crisis. This is a crisis whose root cause is Zimbabwe’s curse of rigged elections and it has been going on the last 40 years, for Pete’s sake.

Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and to silence all dissent the regime has been using brute force.

There is absolutely nothing new for the ANC to learn from holding all these meetings in Zimbabwe. Nothing!

From the 10 resolutions at the end of the Zanu PF - ANC 8 hours meeting it is clear the ANC envoys have been completely bamboozled into believing Zanu PF’s position, which we already knew, that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe.

“One easy way is to simply dismiss the delegation as a solidarity squad on a mission to save a sister party and sink the citizens' aspirations. I choose to take a different view,” you said.

As it has turned out, “the easy way” you discarded was correct!
