“The recent arrival of Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga at the National Heroes Acre incited waves of celebration among supporters, who are increasingly viewing him as a potential saviour for a nation desperate for change. This article will analyze the implications of Chiwenga’s return, his statements regarding corruption, and what they might mean for both the ruling elite and ordinary Zimbabweans.
Chiwenga’s arrival at the National Heroes Acre was met with enthusiasm from supporters, a reflection of their desire for transformative leadership. For many, he symbolised hope against a backdrop of political stagnation. The jubilation can be understood as a reaction to widespread frustration with the current government, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. People celebrated Chiwenga not just for his military background, which evokes a legacy of decisive action, but also for his positioning as a beacon against corruption, a topic resonant in the minds of many Zimbabweans.
However, this fervent reception also exposes a schism within the political landscape. While Chiwenga is hailed as a potential leader capable of instituting change, his celebration also underscores a yearning for stability in a nation plagued by economic collapse and rampant mismanagement.”
The people of Zimbabwe welcomed the 2017 military coup because they were so focused on “Mugabe must go!” they were convinced any one else would be infinitely better.
Even when they knew Mnangagwa was replacing Mugabe many were out shouting “Give Mnangagwa a chance!” They knew Mnangagwa was Mugabe’s henchman, he was the man behind the vote rigging, the looting and the cold-blooded murders of Gukurahundi, 2008 electoral coup, etc.
The nation gave Mnangagwa a chance and the “Second Republic” as he loves calling his years as top dog, has turned out to be no different from Mugabe years. You do not get a silk purse from a sower’ ear; we all knew that Mnangagwa is a buffoon and it was mad to expect any good from him.
Constantino Chiwenga was top brass in the Army during Mugabe days and like all the other senior officers he played his part is the creation and imposition of the de facto one-party dictatorship, especially in the 2008 Operation Mavhotera Papi. He was rewarded for his role and amassed a fortune.
He played the leading role in the 2017 military coup, he even claimed that the coup was to defend the nation’s constitution although he never said which chapter and verse in constitution supported a coup. There is no such chapter and verse. He was appointed VP, his reward for staging the coup.
Chiwenga is up in arms against this Mnangagwa for 2030 because he thinks it is now his turn to be top dog. He has been speaking against corruption (Mr Squeaky clean, had his lion’s share of the wholesale looting) and in defence of the constitution (he has rigged elections and staged the 2017 coup). How anyone can ever consider Chiwenga the nation’s saviour beggars belief.
No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we have such short memories and therefore are prone to repeated the same idiotic mistake of expecting good governance and economic prosperity from a buffoon, even some one with a well documented track record as a buffoon.
We all know Chiwenga is a buffoon and we still want to give him a chance. To do what exactly? “Kukagamwa chezuro nehope!” as one would say in Shona!

Millions of Zimbabweans participated in the 2023 elections because they believed Chamisa’s idiotic lie that he “plugged all the vote rigging loop holes to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. #Godisinit!” These people were warned that Zanu PF would rig the elections, that participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy, give Chamisa & Co. a few gravy train seats and would perpetuate the nation’s suffering.
Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Zimbabweans have been participating in flawed elections for 45 years expecting the opposition to win. If that is not insanity I do not what is!
“Iwe chitiudza the best solutions to Zimbabwe problems?” you ask. The solution is self evident and was stated again and again in black and white: STOP PARTICIPATING IN FLAWED ELECTIONS TO GIVE ZANU PF LEGITIMACY AND TO PERPETUATE YOUR OWN SUFFERING!
You are just a village idiot who not only believed Chamisa’s idiotic lies but does not even have the common sense to admit he was conned.
For the record not everyone who left Zimbabwe is a coward just as not everyone still in the country has common sense, you are a village idiot. Only a village idiot like you would call some one a coward because the person dared to expose your stupidity!
So let us try again: Do you accept that Chamisa lied to con people to participate in flawed election and, careful now, you were an idiot to believe the idiotic lie?
@ Samaz Investments
I have never said those who are in Zimbabwe are village idiots because they are in Zimbabwe. You are a village idiot who believed Chamisa’s idiotic lies you being in Zimbabwe is irrelevant. There are idiots in Zimbabwe and outside just as there are cowards inside and outside only a village idiot like you would make a mountain out of a mole hill!
I have asked you the question again if Chamisa lied because village idiots must not be allowed to get away with their stupidity. You are a village idiot and must be put firmly in your place.
Zimbabwe cannot afford yet another rigged elections because village idiots like you participate in another flawed elections and pretend they did not know what else to do!
@ Taona
I salute all those who have left the country and yet continue to take an active interest in what is going on in Zimbabwe. Only village idiots would want to play the card of “I am in Zimbabwe” as if that is a virtue in itself. Zimbabwe is in serious trouble and the way forward can come from any one in or outside the country. The very idea that only those in Zimbabwe know best is foolish and must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves!
@ Zviko
Zimbabwe has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections for 45 years and counting and that is why reforms and free elections must remain on the national agenda until we have free elections. Thank God there is some one who see the bigger picture as contrast to the nincompoops who want reforms and free elections off the national agenda for no better reason than that they have been there for 3 years!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dmk6xJZ2Ek
VP Chiwenga is a corrupt, vote rigging Zanu PF thug, he does not have a single drop of democrat blood in his body. He is against the call to amend the constitution to extend Mnangagwa's rule beyond the two term limit only because that suits his own agenda. He is desperate to take over from Mnangagwa.
We are still in this political and economic mess because we wasted the opportunity to demand real change in 2017. We were conned to believe the musical chairs of swapping Mugabe for Mnangagwa we all we wanted. We must not repeat the same foolish mistake ever again.
We want to end the dictatorship and swapping Mnangagwa for Chiwenga will not cut it. 2017 military coup Dzungu must not repeat itself!
https://streamyard.com/xgpx9retwh
H C Judge George Chiweshe ruled that the 2017 military coup was "legal, justified and constitutional" and let the gene out of the bottle. The recent Blessed Geza and other War Veterans' call for Mnangagwa to "go peacefully or be removed" opens the door for yet another coup. If Mnangagwa amends the constitution cancelling elections then another coup/mass protest will be the only way to change government in Zimbabwe. This is the last thing the nation wants! We do not want another 2017 swap of one dictator for another either!
@ Samaz
Some one who believes idiotic lies is an idiot. You are so stupid you do not even have the common sense to admit you fcuked up big time. I will never ever call a nincompoop a genius just because you threaten me. Never!
"Our Vision 2030 is for all of us, not for those you refer to as 'mbingas'!" Chiwenga said, using a term commonly associated with wealthy individuals. He further described such individuals as "zvigananda," a term from the liberation war era used to refer to those with questionable morals.
He stressed the need for equitable resource distribution, stating, "Zimbabwe belongs to all of us. We must share its God-given resources equally, ensuring that no one, including the vulnerable, the widowed, or the orphaned, is marginalized or pushed aside in a ruthless pursuit of undeserved privileges. Corruption must end.”
Recent appointments, including Stephen Mutamba as Police Commissioner-General and Lovemore Matuke as State Security Minister—both from Masvingo province—have sparked frustration among critics, including some war veterans within Zanu PF.
Factional tensions were palpable during the burial proceedings. One group, aligned with Chiwenga, cheered enthusiastically throughout his speech, particularly when he indirectly criticized controversial businessmen such as Wicknell Chivhayo. They sang a song with the refrain, "Siyanai naye Chiwenga, munomuvengerei," translating to, "Leave Chiwenga alone, why do you hate him?"
In stark contrast, another faction, clad in pink t-shirts bearing the slogan "Women for ED," remained silent, signaling their allegiance to Mnangagwa.
Chiwenga's remarks come amid intensifying factional divisions within Zanu PF. A faction led by war veteran and Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza recently accused Mnangagwa of tribalism, corruption, and plotting to extend his term beyond the constitutional limit of 2028.
Zimbabwe's Constitution restricts presidents to two five-year terms, as outlined in Section 328. Despite Geza's press conference, Zanu PF officials at the burial declined to comment on the accusations.
Notably, banners advocating for Mnangagwa to remain in power until 2030 were absent at the event, with only two placards displaying neutral Vision 2030 messaging.
Chiwenga's speech serves as a rallying call for unity and accountability in pursuing Vision 2030. By condemning corruption, tribalism, and greed, the Acting President underscored the importance of upholding the values of the liberation struggle to build an inclusive and prosperous Zimbabwe.”
VP Constantino Chiwenga is a typical Zanu PF thug who has played his part over the years the establishment and retaining the Zanu PF dictatorship and has his fair share of the power and looted wealth. Only the ignorant, naive and gullible were fooled by his castigation of “mbinga nezvigananda” when he is the godfather of many of them - at least was until recently when he fell out with Mnangagwa.
Chiwenga in championing the fight to stop Mnangagwa amending the constitution to extend his (Mnangagwa) stay in power beyond the stipulated two terms maximum because he (Chiwenga) has been itching to take over from Mnangagwa. Where was his unflinching commitment to the constitution when he played his part in rigging the elections, staged the 2008 electoral coup and the November 2017 military coup.
After 45 years of rigged elections and bad governance, the people of Zimbabwe must be crystal clear that they want want Zimbabwe to implement all the democratic reforms to guarantee the freedoms and rights of all Zimbabweans including the right to free, fair and credible elections. This is only possible if the Zanu PF dictatorship is dismantled and they must not allow themselves to be short changed by the swapping of one dictator for another as happened in 2017!
@ Godfrey
Would you say Chamisa has done this in the past by participating in flawed elections. He has even lied about plugging all vote rigging loop holes to con millions of his followers to participate. Should he do the same?
@ Godfrey
“The question at hand is - what would we advise opposition to do under the circumstances - we should not wait to use post event facts to bring out retrospective criticism.
I would use the power I have (the people) to push my democratic agenda. The opportunity exists now. I would not waste time talking about past plugging holes promises but just look forward and advise NC to do the same.”
“I would not waste time talking about past plugging holes promises but just look forward and advise NC to do the same,” that is what I feared you would do. The truth is NC has failed to implement even one token democratic reform in five years of the GNU, an infinitely easier task than the more complex task of stopping Zanu PF amending the constitution.
If Chamisa cannot be trusted with the grade one stuff, it is foolish to trust him with the “A” level stuff specially when the nation’s well being is once again at stake!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdAZdjSfS_c
The "Authentic" War Veteran Association has condemned Zanu PF for seeking to amend Zimbabwe's National Constitution for the sake of addressing the party's failure to deal with its succession problems and to hide individuals' dynastic ambitions. This is a position every thinking Zimbabwean MUST support and fight for.
We must discard the Blessed Geza war veterans group's get Zimbabweans to support their Zanu PF factional fight to swap Mnangagwa with VP Chiwenga. We want to end the Zanu PF diCtatorship and not swap one dictator for another as happened in 2017!
https://x.com/i/broadcasts/1mrGmMPvOEzGy
After 45 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship the number one challenge is to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship. The nation cannot afford the sheer hypocrisy of those condemning Mnangagwa as a dictator and yet they helped impose him. And meanwhile they are seeking to swap one dictator for another.
Comrade, can you vouch Chiwenga is not corrupt, never rigged elections and will never be the next dictator! If not the we must all fight for democratic reforms and free and fair elections - our rock guarantor for good governance and power to remove corrupt leaders!
"While we do not wish to interfere in the succession battles of any political party, we must remind Zanu-PF of the reasons why the military intervened in November 2017 through Operation Restore Legacy," Mathibela said. "It was because the political situation was reaching a boiling point, and now, the same mismanagement of succession issues is threatening the stability of the country."
The issue of succession and term extensions has triggered debates across various political and civic groups. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere recently stated that it was not a criminal offence for citizens to voice their opinions on the proposed 2030 agenda. This came after the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations urged Mnangagwa to resist the pressure from his supporters to extend his time in office.
In the wake of these developments, Sengezo Tshabangu, self-appointed Secretary-General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), voiced his opposition to the 2030 agenda after meeting with Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda. Tshabangu's camp, which has faced criticism for his endorsement of the agenda during a visit to the president's farm, has described the idea of a third term as "repulsive" and divisive.
Tshabangu's spokesperson, Nqobizitha Mlilo, reinforced the party's stance, stating, "The 2028 postponement of elections and the 2030 agenda are inconsistent with our national aspirations. We will oppose it, as it creates unnecessary national disharmony.”
I totally agree with Comrade Mathibela, Mnangagwa does not want to give up power and so has manufactured a scenario to justify why he must remain in office - THERE IS NO ONE IN ZANU PF, IN THE OPPOSITION (SUCH AS IT IS) OR IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY WHO IS COMPETENT TO COMPLETE THE DEVELOPMENTS (ALL A MIRAGE BUT WHO WILL DARE SAY THAT) HE, EMMERSON DAMBUDZO MNANGAGWA, HAS STARTED. HE MUST HAVE TWO MORE YEARS TO COMPLETE THE DEVELOPMENTS! How convenient! How pathetic!
Comrade Mathibela is wrong to suggest the 2017 military coup was justified and served a useful purpose of cooling down the soaring political temperature. The coup allowed one dictator and his cronies to replace the party’s 37 year dictator and a few of his closest cronies. Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who rigged elections to stay in power. Nothing had changed and so the present political crisis is no surprise!
The challenge today is for Zimbabweans to finally sort out this political mess! We must implement the democratic reforms to guarantee all our people their freedoms and human rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. We must dispense with the foolish notion that some people have the divine right to rule Zimbabwe much less to loot the nation’s wealth!
It all started with extending his president by two years and two years became president for life! Mviromviro dzemadza mapfeka! What started as a two year extension can very easily be turned into president for life!
@ Dr Do little
“I agree with you. Only problem is that at this time and point there would have to be Vacuum because there would be no one credible to take over when you look at the calibre of people waiting in the wings. Even those that were voted for by only their family are dirty because there is no checking what past crimes they have committed. I say this because one of the Presidential Candidates of the past two elections spent over 10 years in a British prison because he was selling and providing people with fake British passports. He was deported on release, but some how or the other got on to the ballot box. That is the kind of people that want to run the country.”
We do not have any quality leaders because the political system is rotten to the core it can only produce buffoons and sell-outs. I agree we are seemingly caught up in a chicken and egg situation. But after 45 years of this nightmare, I think we should have the courage to admit that we cannot allow the present situation to continue.
We can ask the UN to help set up a GNU whose primary task will be to implement the democratic reforms to put the country back on a democratic footing. SADC tried that in 2008 to 2013 but was let down by our corrupt and useless buffoons and sell-outs. A GNU of technocrats will do!
Blundering on with the same buffoons and sell-outs is not an option!
@ Chamisa
Chamisa lied about plugging all vote rigging loop holes to con people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship. This is not the first time nor the last time (no doubt) he and his opposition friends have coned the nation to keep Zanu PF in power. Chamisa and company are Zanu PF team B in all but name.
So after all these years of Chamisa helping Mnangagwa rig elections and get away with it we are to believe Chamisa is outraged by Mnangagwa's attempts to extend his stay in office by two years! How foolish is that! If MDC had not sold out by failing to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU the nation would have got rid of Zanu PF in 2013 for Pete's sake.
Chamisa is a sell-out and thus the reason why the nation is still stuck with Zanu PF. He must do us a favour and just shut up!
The nation is facing some real serious economic challenges and instead of dealing with the problems those in positions of power and authority are busy shouting each other down. One of these days they will be shooting each other and we, the unarmed and helpless, will be caught in the cross.
The people of Zimbabwe never thought we would ever be a failed state. We are a failed state. What is happening in Sudan can easily happen here too, if we do not do something to end the Zanu PF dictatorship now before it is too late.
https://x.com/i/broadcasts/1vOxwrXEPyNJB
So there is a scorpion sting behind Comrade Blessed Geza and fellow war veterans' huuu - haaa against Mnangagwa's attempts to amend the constitution. The war veterans are up in arms because they want Chiwenga to replace Mnangagwa, another musical chairs as happened in 2017. The people of Zimbabwe must focus on their demand to dismantle the dictatorship and not be side tracked into a fight to replace yet another dictator with a new dictator.
After 45 years of Zanu PF imposed dictator with a nation a failed state ad millions of our people living in abject poverty the last thing we want is yet another dictator - be it Mnangagwa of Chiwenga.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4ScfPNhz8E
No one should be surprised that Mnangagwa and his cronies are steaming ahead with their plan to amend the constitution to extend Mnangagwa, MPs, senators and councillors mandate beyond 2028. They are dismissing calls to abandon this madness with contempt and even calling those who have dared to object demons! Zanu PF has always treated blacks the same way whites treated us - as third class citizens with the intellect of ten year olds, at best, and hence the reason why we have been denied the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.
Zanu PF has never held free, fair and credible elections ever since independence in 1980. If the regime amends the constitution then it will strip us the right to even a rigged vote, we will be back to the blacks' status under Smith when we did not have a vote.
The fight for democratic reforms and free and fair elections has never been more important and urgent than it is now. Zanu PF must know that we, the demons, are going fight like demons for our rights and human dignity and those of generations to come!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D7bQ9ymkKg
“You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go.” Oliver Cromwell told Britain's useless Rump parliament in 1653.
We should have told this corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF regime to go decades ago. Mnangagwa, forget amending the constitution, GO! JUST GO! IN THE NAME OF GOD, GO!
“Hard-hitting statements by Zimbabwe's war veterans calling on President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down have exposed deepening factional rifts within Zanu-PF over the controversial push to extend his term to 2030, according to party insiders and political analysts.
Zanu-PF's annual conference in October 2024 saw the adoption of a resolution to extend Mnangagwa's tenure by two years, despite the President's repeated assertion that he plans to retire at the end of his final term in 2028. Mnangagwa's loyalists have been pushing ahead with the 2030 agenda, holding weekly meetings and rallying support in various constituencies, but this has sparked significant resistance within the party.
The tensions came to a head over the weekend when Blessed Geza, a member of the Zanu-PF Central Committee, and other war veterans publicly opposed the extension of Mnangagwa's term, with Geza even calling for the President to step down. The statement by the war veterans is seen as a rallying cry for the country's ex-combatants and broader political opposition to the 2030 proposal.
On Monday, Acting President Constantino Chiwenga, widely regarded as a frontrunner to succeed Mnangagwa, also spoke out against corruption at the National Heroes Acre, where he was greeted with chants of support. His comments further reinforced the growing anti-2030 sentiment within the party.”
The root cause of Mugabe’s ouster in 2017 was the country’s economic meltdown. The factional wars and even the military coup itself would have never happened if Zimbabwe was rich and prosperous and Mugabe was still able to doll out well-paid patronage jobs, seized former white owned farms, etc. Mugabe knew his beacon was fried as he watched the national cake shrink.
Ian Smith left Mugabe the proverbial seven fat cows and seven fat ears of corn and so Mugabe was able to sustain his patronage system for decades. Mugabe left Mnangagwa one skin and bones cow which the later slaughtered for his inauguration feast and so had nothing left. Mnangagwa has had to dig deep and sell the nation’s silver, corruption has gone into overdrive, which has only accelerated the country’s economic decline.
Mnangagwa’s demise has been on the wall for all who care to read for themselves. The war veterans’ demand for him to go is nothing more than the opportunism of the last straw!
Mnangagwa’s ouster could be very messy; all violent political changes are usually very messy, the price dictator and the nation must pay for resisting peaceful change. Mugabe was lucky to man who woke him up in the small hours did not have a twitchy finger, Mnangagwa may not be so lucky!
Analysts and opposition political parties have raised alarm over a surge in job losses as companies downsize or shut down due to the prevailing tough economic environment in Zimbabwe. The formal retail sector has been particularly hard-hit, with many outlets struggling to restock and facing imminent closure, a scenario that echoes the economic collapse of 2008-2009.
While the government continues to talk of potential economic recovery, real-time indicators on the ground suggest otherwise, particularly with the recent spate of company closures.
Willias Madzimure, spokesperson for the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), attributed the economic downturn to the government's erratic fiscal and monetary policies. He stressed that these policies had created an unsustainable environment for businesses to thrive, further exacerbated by Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube's recent budget measures.”
Meanwhile Mnangagwa continues to be preoccupied with how to extend his stay in office beyond the two terms. He rigged the 2023 elections and so he is think of how to extend his illegitimate mandate! We really must stand firm and tell the buffoon that he must go!
https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-opinion-sc-columnist-byo-250037.html
Zanu PF have been in power for 45 years and Zimbabwe has been in steady decline throughout that period. The argument that Mnangagwa will deliver the economic miracle of turning round the nation's fortune from the fail state to be a upper middle income nation is absurd and to do it in just five years is political fantasy. Not even the die hard Zanu PF supporter believe the lie.
There is no chance of Zanu PF getting the referendum to amend the constitution approved on the basis the voters believed the lie Mnangagwa will deliver vision 2030. Zanu PF will have to rig the referendum. We must not allow ourselves to be cheated yet again as has happened countless times these last 45 years! This time there is a lot more at stake than a stolen mandate, the right to have that mandate is at stake.
https://www.facebook.com/4415858595176450/videos/2080911622384042
Mankind is a creature of reason and rational thinking. Chamisa's two million supporter do not understand that it was Chamisa, Coltart, Mahere and all the other CCC leaders who participated in the flawed 2023 elections who did the real damage of giving Zanu PF political legitimacy. They took up their gravy train seats even after both SADC and AU had condemned the process out of greed. Sengezo Tshabangu only appeared on the scene to recall some of elected officials but by then the damage was done. Tshabangu is nothing but a jackal at a lion kill, it is nonsense to pretend it was the jackal that killed the buffalo!
When one realises that Chamisa's supporters will not accept a simple truth that he lied to them about plugging vote rigging loop holes even thou they accept the elections were rigged. Their tribesman mentality is so strong it overrides the instinct to be rational. Under stand that and you understand why they believe the idiotic lies of winning RIGGED elections.
Chamisa will need a day to con his two million supporters to participate in a flawed 2028 elections landed us in where we are today. You cannot reason with that lot and that is worrying!
