Botswana takes the lead in rejecting the rigging of
elections by Mugabe.
“There is no doubt that what has
been revealed so far by our observers cannot be considered as an acceptable
standard for free and fair elections in SADC,” said Botswana’s Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in a statement. “The Community, SADC, should never create the
undesirable precedent of permitting exceptions to its own rules.”
The statement continued by calling
for an independent audit of the Zimbabwe results, and for the inconsistencies
in the report of SADC’s own election observers to be discussed at the SADC summit
later this month.
What Botswana has done is say something everyone could
see has happened but no one dared say it out loud! Mugabe rigged this election,
that is an undeniable fact.
Even Mugabe himself has been careful not to comment on
the elections. His first public comment since to last Wednesday was that Zanu
PF had "dealt a blow to the British and its Allies!" In other words
he has no quims or apology cheating since this was a blow against the British.
He is conveniently ignoring the fact that the people he once again cheated
and denied their basic right to a free and meaningful vote was not the British
but the ordinary Zimbabweans.

Tsvangirai can resign and go but that will not mean MDC itself can be saved. The level of incompetency MDC has shown in the last five years is so such that no just Tsvangirai but the entire MDC leadership is to blame.
There is no Zanu PF leader who can wash their hands clean of what happened during the dark days of Gukurahundi. By the same token no MDC leader can wash their hands clean of the party's breath-taking incompetence and betrayal of the people in failing to implement the reforms.
Yes in Africa we love recycling and keep things way beyond their use-by dates, especially our failed political leaders. MDC will continue to play a part in Zimbabwe not because the party has anything useful or relevant to offer but because we, the people, do not know any better!
@ Time eye
When you have a voter turnout of 141%, there can be no doubt that something very fishy happened! SADC and AU are desperate to wash their hand off of Zimbabwe that is why they have been keen to turn a blind eye on what Mugabe has done and not that they had no evidence of vote rigging. You should learn to tell the difference!
@ Felicia
You need to focus! At this rate you will be blaming the rigging on the elections being held on a Wednesday and not a Monday!
The principle reason why Mugabe was able to rig these elections is because MDC failed to im-plement the democratic reforms. Having said that, still Mugabe had no right to rig the elections and deny the people their basic right to free and fair elections.
Botswana is saying Mugabe should not be let off the hook just because Tsvangirai was an imbe-cile and that is right!
Why you want to include inert objects like voters' roll, ink, as if they too played a part in the vote rigging independent of the actions of the humans is not stretching the imagination but rather an inert disability to distinguish what is relevant from what is totally irrelevant.
@ Kiffarboy
Sure thing boss! Whatever you say; your royal nincompoop!
(It has not dawned on him that the real victims of the rigged elections is the people of Zimbabwe and not the British. Well that is one thing Mugabe has counted on all these last 33 years and yet to fail him - the sheer stupidity of some blacks whose blind hatred of the British is such that the tyrants has made their lives hell and they have accepted it all because it is all to punish the British. Only a first class nincompoop would believe this nonsense and, sadly, in people like Kiffarboy Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of these!)
