Zanu PF factions counter accusations a necessary preamble for the savage fight to follow

Grace Mugabe has been uncompromising in her demand to have VP Mujuru “baby-dumped” because the VP is the leader of faction seeking to force her husband out of office. The Mujuru faction has come up with its own counter accusation; accusing the Mnangagwa faction, of who Grace is their stalking horse, of seeking regime change.

“It’s unfortunate that we are witnessing Tsholotsho Two, the people who were involved in the Tsholotsho declaration are now also involved to bring a regime change,” said Rugare Gumbo. Gumbo is from the Mujuru faction.

What these Zanu PF idiots, from both factions, have failed to see is that ‘no regime change’ has creating a political system designed to retain power at all cost including denying the majority of the people a meaningful say and even murdering innocent people and to reward those committed to this ethos was always doomed to fail. The system is inherently inefficient and wasteful because it stifles debate, competition and meaningful accountability and every soon the ugly faces of mismanagement and corruption will emerge.

The waste of resources, human and material, will lead to poor economic performance and the fall in the standards of living, particularly those with no political power. The people will, naturally, become restless in the face of increasing economic hardships. The ruling elite’s response is to become more oppressive to ensure there is no regime change but since this does not address the core problem of the criminal waste of resources it easy to see why this becomes a vicious circle.

In the case of Zimbabwe decades of vicious circle of increasing political repression encouraging more corruption and waste leading worsening economic performance have resulted in rampant corruption and total economic meltdown. The latter has result in unemployment soaring to 90% plus; forced 300 000 or 80% of children out of school because their parents are too poor to pay their fees; 16% or 2 million people are now living in abject poverty or on less than $1.25 per day; etc.

The economic hardship have not spared the ruling elite either as the countless stories of Zanu PF party grandee like the late Nathan Shamuyarira and Enos Nkala who lived the last years of their lives in abject poverty.

Of course this vicious circle designed to condemn more and more people into a life of abject poverty and despair was unsustainable; the vicious circle was bound to be broken and the political system founded on ‘no regime change’ ended with regime change.

The factional fighting going on in Zanu PF right now, although each faction claims to be the one defending ‘no regime change’ in their own macabre way, is in fact a regime change agenda in response to the worsening economic reality. Each side has realised that the system is relegating too many people into poverty and despair but instead of seek a holistic change of the system they want the size of the ruling elite reduced and are fighting to ensure it the other faction that remain in power.

Accusing each other of being corrupt and counter revolutionaries is a necessary preamble; it helps to justify the savagery that is to follow! History belongs to the winning side; revised versions of heroic exploits of VP Joice Mujuru shooting down a helicopter during the war of independence claiming it was all a lies, for example, have already started to come out. The winning side will come out with shocking details of how corrupt and tyrannical the losers were!

What Mujuru and Mnangagwa and their respective factional supporters must realise is that the nations will only end corrupt system that has forced millions into a life of poverty and hopelessness by instituting a political system that allows regime change. The half-way solution of one faction dumping another but still retaining the ‘no regime change’ mantra is not acceptable; it too will collapse just as surely as this Zanu PF was doomed to collapse.

What Ms Dongo has failed to understand is that this fallout in Zanu PF was the inevitable consequences of the worsening economic meltdown, itself a result of the rampant corruption.

Ms Dongo saw so many of the former freedom fighters, the first lot to be discarded because there was not enough wealth to keep everyone in the swing – load shedding Mugabe style - living and dying in abject poverty. When she realised that she was going to be discarded too, she rebelled.

The corruption has continued and now it is rampant and the economic cake has shrunk even more; it was time for yet another serious load shedding.

“If they (Zanu PF leaders) do not stand up against Mugabe then I have no regrets to say they remain Mugabe's wives,” said Ms Dongo.

Sadly her inability to understand even the most basic economic facts has always been her worst forte. Even if all the Zanu PF did stand up to Mugabe that will not change the basic economic reality that rampant corruption is killing the national economy and any who thing this can go one is naïve.

The Zanu PF political system was from the word-go wasteful of human and material resources and was never going to deliver economic prosperity even to the party cadres much less the masses. And so by the 1990s when the national economic began to feel the ill effects on the misguided Zanu PF mismanagement and corruption the party started to load shed party cadres on the periphery. Today the load shedding has reached the very core of the party; VP Mujuru, Ministers like Dzikamai Mavhaire, Police Commissioner Chihuri, etc. are all going to be dumped!

This is case of money being wasted asking the wrong people an irrelevant question. Even if everyone in Mash West knew everything there is to know about ZimAsset that would not have made any difference to the economic prospects in that province or the rest of the country. None!

ZimAsset is a totally unworkable proposal design to rig economic recovery in that the regime hoped to achieve economic recovery by throwing billions of dollars at the sick economy and thus avoid carrying out the necessary changes to end the underlying problems like corruption.

It was better for the researchers to ask the Zanu PF leadership, who authored of this stupid plan whether they even understood their own work; instead of wasting time asking people powerless to change the plan what the know about it.

We are not getting out of this political and economic mess with this "must work harder" Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, mentality. We must work hard, yes; but above all we must work smarter. Even the planners themselves realised that ZimAsset would need a massive cash injection to work; Mugabe has since failed to get even 20% of the $27 billion required and yet someone thinks the plan will still deliver all its objectives if the people break their backs making it work!

"The party will embark on peaceful and constitutional demonstrations and other forms of expression around the issues to force the regime of Robert Mugabe to accept the need for reforms," the MDC said at the close of a party congress.

The protests "will force the government of Robert Mugabe to the negotiating table and build consensus on the need for a timetable towards a free and fair election and return to legitimacy," the party said

Coming from the MDC that is a very significant achievement; even a verbal acknowledgement of the need for the democratic reforms is a great achievement. One dare not ask how the reforms will be implemented, even if the party’s street protest were to force Mugabe to the talks; no one in MDC has thought of that one yet! If they had then they would have realised the task was infinitely easier to accomplish during the GNU than it is now.

The MDC congress came and went and still nothing said on what went wrong leading to the blatantly vote rigging by Mugabe and Zanu PF. Election the same breathtakingly incompetent leaders who failed to get even one democratic reform implemented when they had all the opportunities to do so over the five-year life of the GNU is proof that MDC is not a serious political party since it is a party led by the incompetent leading some amazingly blind and naïve followers.

Until Zimbabweans can demonstrate that they are serious about finding solutions to the country’s serious political and economic problems by electing competent and serious leaders then the international community will have no choice but to ignore Zimbabwe. People get the government and opposition they deserve we certain deserve this corrupt and murderous Zanu PF and the blundering and incompetent MDC. We can stew in the mess of our own making for as long as we please until we learn!

@Bluntboy

Tsvangirai is breathtakingly incompetent; MDC was doomed to blunder from pillar to post with such a leader. He is lucky to have equally incompetent leaders around him and followers who are as blind as a mole.

If Zimbabwe is ever to get out of this hell-hole Mugabe and Zanu PF landed the nation then the Zimbabwean people have to start opening their eye, ears and, most important of all, their minds. A functioning democracy demands an electorate that understands what is going on and receptive to reason and not one that follow blindly like sheep to the slaughter.

@ Oscar

The tragic reality is as long as there are many Zimbabweans out there willing to continue voting for this "dick head" we are all fcuked! Tsvangirai wasted the best chance the nation has had in 34 years to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and we, the whole nation, is paying dearly for it and will do so for years to come!

@ Muchato

Mugabe is corrupt and ruthless tyrant that is a fact and many Zimbabweans want him out but after wasting many golden opportunities to get Mugabe out we have to look at why. The explanation is clear enough - Tsvangirai is breathtakingly incompetent to do it.

If you think Tsvangirai is still the right man to get rid of Mugabe then you must explain why he failed to do so in the past. This is the age of reason and to hell with blind loyalty because we are in this hell precisely because of blind loyalty and will remain in here unless we change.

People like you can only in monochrome, black or white, right or wrong and will not even see the multi-tude of the shade of grey. Mugabe is bad and Tsvangirai is good and will not accept the reality that for this set task Tsvangirai has already proven to be hopelessly bad.

You will need another ten or fifteen years to see that Tsvangirai is incompetent but Zimbabwe does not have that time to waste, 90% plus are out of work, 300 000 children are out of school, etc.!

You need to wake up and see the real world and its full splendour is all the colour of the rainbow!

@ Mister Bako

Tsvangirai has already shown that he is breathtakingly incompetent. It is bad enough that the political system failed to pick this up early on but a political system that will pick an idiot again and again is a great national tragedy! A nation that is incapable of learning from history is a doomed nation. We are indeed doomed!
