Yes Yamamoto Grace Mugabe would "bring 100 years of bad harvest" if she ruled Zim - she is not ruling!

“It’s sad when an individual rules a country by proxy. In response to Simba’s wisecrack, I said, “akusai wa hyaku-nen no fusaku” (悪妻は百年の不作), a Japanese saying which means “a bad wife spells a hundred years of bad harvest”!” wrote Ken Yamamoto.

I would agree with you that Grace Mugabe would bring hundreds of years of bad harvest if she was ruling Zimbabwe by proxy. It is Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown that is ruling Mugabe right now and it will rule her in turn if she ever took over from him.

Mugabe has managed to stay as leader of his own political party Zanu PF and the nation all these years by cheating, outwitting, intimidating and even murdering his political challengers from within his own party and outside alike. The one thing he has completely failed to cheat, outwit intimidate or murder is the economy.

Decades of misrule have taken their toll and the Zimbabwe economy is now in totally meltdown and the last one and years, since the rigged July 2013 election one thing is becoming increasing clear - Mugabe cannot rig economic recovery.

The foundation of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown were laid soon after independence when Mugabe picked this political route of turning Zimbabwe into a one party dictatorship and stifle all debate and competition. Mugabe has always lacked the “developmental vision and strong bias for action”, as you said are important for successful leaders. Yes he is infirm and frail both physically and mentally because of his advance age but when he first took the nation down this disastrous path, he was 56 year-old spring chicken!

Even if he could turn back the clock and be the spring-chicken again he would not rig Zimbabwe’s economic recovery but, rest assured, he would not admit to failure either. It is not in the DNA of a tyrant like Mugabe to admit failure much less to give up power. The nearest thing to Mugabe ruling behind the grave is for Zanu PF to remain in power and even best for his wife to be President.

Whether or not Mugabe will die in office and see his wife taking over will dependent on Mugabe rigging economic recovery, so far the signs are that he has failed. It is naïve to expect that “half-witted jackass or simpleton with a crass approach to complicated matters demanding high levels of emotional intelligence” wife of his will perform the miracle of rigging economic recovery!

It will not be an opposition leader like Morgan Tsvangirai or Zanu PF challenger like Joice Mujuru who will credited with ending Mugabe’s dream to die in office (unless he does so in the next two years) or ending his Mugabe dynasty dream. It will be Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown that will do that and it was his greedy and lack of vision that brought is on!
