Are you voting because the elections are free or hoping to win rigged election?

Indulge me just a few minutes of your time. Please! Thank you.

Please pick one of the nine possible answers you believe represents you:

a)     You going to vote (those who are not because they are in the diaspora or for some such reason, just imagine that you were in Zimbabwe and had the option) on 30 July 2018 because you believe these elections are free, fair and credible and you vote is as valid as any vote in any other democratic elections in the world?

b)     You are going to vote on 30 July 2018 but have no clue whether the elections are free and fair.

c)     Are you going to vote on 30 July 2018 although you know these elections are flawed and illegal and therefore the process will not be free, fair and credible? You are doing so only because you know it is your party that will be doing the rigging and therefore benefiting.

d)     You going to vote on 30 July 2018 although you know these elections are flawed and illegal and therefore the process will not be free, fair and credible. You know that your party will be the one being short changed by the vote rigging. You are participating in the process hoping to win the rigged elections.

e)     See c) above. You still participate in the elections even though you know or should know by now that your vote will not making any difference to the predetermined result. You know your participation is in fact counter-productive as it gives the flawed process some modicum of credibility and thus forfeit the chance of forcing the implementation of the democratic reforms that would deliver free and fair elections.

f)      You are not going to vote on 30 July 2018 because you have lost confidence in the political system and have given up believing you can change anything.

g)     You are not going to vote on 30 July 2018 because you know with no reforms in place the elections will be rigged and participating will only be giving the process credibility it does not deserve. You are demanding that these elections be declared null and void to allow the implementation of the reforms.

h)     You are going to vote on the 30 July 2018 out of fear of what will become of you if you did not.

i)       You are going to vote on the 30 July because you believe the party you will vote for has better economic policies and you do not care whether the elections are rigged or not.

The answer(s) your pick will determine whether you a believe the right to free, fair and credible elections is an inalienable right or a privilege and thus whether you view yourself as a citizen or merely a subject. The answer(s) will also give an indication on how well informed you are and rate your ability to think for yourself.

Zimbabwe is in this political mess because many Zimbabweans have either proven to be incapable of thinking for themselves, been totally reckless or both. If we are serious about wanting a better Zimbabwe for ourselves and posterity then must start thinking serious what we want out of these elections and what we must do to ensure that we get it.

It goes without saying but I will say it for emphasis; if your score above is negative you should not even have the right to vote. Tyrants like Mugabe and Mnangagwa give such people the vote knowing fully well that, one way or the other, they will be the ones benefiting from these votes.

Universal suffrage is all very well when there is freedom of expression and freedom of association; when these things are denied and whole swards of society are ruled by fear and ignorance, it becomes a curse.

We all know rural areas are Zanu PF strongholds because they are "no go areas" for the opposition, the electorate are corral and frog marched to vote for Zanu PF, the only source of information is the public media which is nothing more that the party's propaganda arm, etc.

Implementing the democratic reforms is as much about giving back the public media, ZEC, etc. their independence, power and authority to act fear or favour and, just as important, to restore povo's confidence that they can vote for whoever they please and their vote will count! It insist on holding the elections without the reforms is therefore being irresponsible.

@ Pelly Fourtune

"Give us break and let us exercise our right whether rigged or not rigged does it matter in Zimbabwe?? stop screaming," you say.

"Hupenzi inyama yegakava!" (The insane are insanely stubborn!) as my late mother, may her soul rest in peace, would say.

If you are one of the 90% who are unemployed, one of the ¾ of the population living on US$1.00 or less a day, has suffered the hardships of having no running clean water, have queued for hours only to be given $20 and know have to do it all over again, etc. Then you should be angry if these elections are rigged because all these problems have the Genesis in Zimbabwe being stuck these last 38 years with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical regime that rigged elections to stay in power.

Even if you yourself have not been touched in anyway by tragic mess in Zimbabwe; surely you must have a relative or friend who are a victim of Zanu PF misrule. Even if you have no relative or friend who has ever been touched by the human tragedy in Zimbabwe, surely, surely you must empathise with all those who are facing these heart-breaking hardship day in day out! If you did then you would care that Zimbabwe ends this vote rigging culture because until we do there will be no escaping out of this hell-on-earth Zanu PF has landed us into!

If you really understood that Zanu PF is rigging these elections, just as the regime has done all these year, and understood the tragic consequences of yet another rigged election then you will not only understand why I am screaming but better still you too would be screaming. You are not screaming because you have no clue what is going one; you are blissful happy and contented in your nauseating stupidity!

You go and vote my friend. Being brain dead has its advantages. Bless you!
