It was the great Physicist, Albert Einstein,
who said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a
different result!”
I believe, like many other Zimbabweans now do,
that Zanu PF has been rigging elections. There is evidence galore to suggest
that Zanu PF is rigging this year’s elections; the lack of free public media;
ZEC’s failure to release a credible, clean and verifies voters’ roll; Zanu PF
has access to billions of dollars looted from the people which the party is
then using to bankroll its vote-buying and vote-rigging schemes when the
opposition have no money to fund even a modest campaign; etc.
So after 38 years of rigged elections, 100%
convinced that Zanu PF is just doing to rig these elections too and, most
important of all, 100% convince that I am NOT insane; I have decided to do the
following:
1) I AM NOT GOING TO WASTE MY TIME JOINING THE QUEUE TO TRY AND
VOTE ON MONDAY 30 JULY 2018.
2) I AM GOING TO TALK YOU, THE READER AND ANYONE ELSE I CAN
REACH, NOT TO BOTHER TO TRY TO VOTE ON MONDAY.
Here are some of the arguments to help make up
your own mind:
a) You should participate because these elections are free, fair
and credible.
Anyone telling you that is
being totally disrespectful of you because it is nonsensical to think you can
ever have free, fair and credible elections when you do not a verified voters’
roll. Many people who should be on this new voters’ roll are not; they were
never afforded a reasonable opportunity to register because the whole voter
registration was started very late, September 2017, when it should have started
January 2015 at the latest.
Many who did register will
be denied the chance to vote because they will turn up at the wrong polling
station.
In the 2013 elections Zanu
PF was able to bus its supporters from one polling station to the next casting
multiple vote because there was no verified voters’ roll. There is no verified
voters’ roll again this year and so it is almost certain that the same or a similar
vote rigging scam will be used this year.
So, if you were going to
participate in these elections because you believed the process was free and
fair; it is not! Now you know.
b) The election process is not free and fair but if we mobilise
and voted in numbers then we can still win. We can win rigged elections.
It is true that one can
win rigged elections under certain conditions and these conditions must be
clearly defined and if there are not met one should have the courage to accept that
continuing regardless is futile, insane.
Zanu PF control every
aspect of the electoral process and so the party is able effectively to counter
all efforts to stop or at least minimize the vote rigging. Zanu PF has
responded to the opposition to mobilise the public to register is numbers by
cutting the registration period to five months, by would-be registrant all
manner of additional details, make the process slow and frustrating, etc., etc.
The harder the opposition tried to mobilise the higher Zanu PF raised the bar
to make it harder to do so.
Those who persisted and
jump all the hoops could not still find they are not on the voters’ roll
because the powers that be saw to it that the details were never down loaded,
posted to the wrong polling station, etc. Since the regime has refused to
release the voters’ roll many voters will only find out on voting day that they
have been denied the vote. Nearly one millions would-be voters were denied the
vote in 2013.
There is overwhelming
evidence that Zanu PF’s vote-buying and vote-rigging powers are so varied and
sophisticated that it is no exaggeration to say it is impossible to expect the
party to rig the vote and lose the elections. There is a world of difference
between someone playing with a loaded dice and one with a dice with sixes on
all six sides; Zanu PF has the later! It is insane to bet against Zanu PF
throwing a six when you know it can only be a six!
c) I have been in the trenches for decades fighting for
democratic change; I am not going to quit now. What is there to lose by fight
on.
The right to free, fair
and credible elections in a birth right and not a privilege that Zanu PF can
grant to some and deny others as the party pleases. By continuing to
participate under the above conditions a) or b) one is only reaffirm that it is
a privilege.
Should demand the implementation
of the democratic reforms designed to end Zanu PF’s excessive power to
blatantly denying you your birth rights. Rules, laws and constitution are there
for a purpose you must demand that no one should be above the law. If there are
oppressive laws then it is you duty to break them and expose them for what they
are.
By participating in a
flawed and illegal system you are giving the process legitimacy because even if
you are insane, the law assumes that you are sane and know what you are doing;
especially when you have been warned the process is flawed. By participating
one is therefore forfeiting the chance to push to change because it is assumed
the participant is expecting change doing the same thing over and over, insane
as it may be to outsiders.
Whilst you spend time,
energy and resources fighting a battle you know you will never win you wasting
time, energy and resources you should otherwise be spending considering
alternative strategies. There are many ways of killing a rat starving yourself
to death so you can kill the rat by over feeding it is down-right stupid.
d) I have been in the trenches for decades fighting for
democratic change; I am not going to quit now. I am no quitter!
After reading through a),
b) and c) above there are only two kind of individuals who will say this. The
first one is the opposition politicians, MDC politicians like Tendai Biti,
Welshman Ncube, David Coltart, etc. Zanu PF has allowed the opposition to win a
few gravy train seats to keep them interested in contesting the elections
regardless how flawed and illegal the process may get.
So, when people like
Chamisa say; “I am no quitter!” what they are really saying is “I am greed!”
Indeed, MDC leaders had
the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which would have
stop Zanu PF rigging the election during the GNU. They failed to get even one
reform implemented because Mugabe bribed them with the trapping of high office
and they forgot about the reforms. There is greed for you!
If an ordinary
Zimbabwean insist on trying to vote (whether they do or not is another matter)
on Monday and they are not doing so out of fear (rural folk know their lives
will be hell if Zanu PF candidates in their area should lose) then it must be
because they do not understand the explanations above or they are simply
insane. By doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different
result the insane are, after all proving that they are not quitters too!
In conclusion then, ED is rigging these
elections, he was already won. Your participation in the process, whether you
vote for ED or Nero, will not change the result; all you will do is give the
flawed process the modicum of credibility! If you value your vote then you
should that neither ED nor Nero value it because they would have never allowed
this flawed election process to take place.
Do not even bother to vote because your vote
either way is of no consequence. None!

Nelson Chamisa, head of the MDC opposition party, on Wednesday urged supporters to vote "overwhelmingly for change" in the first election since the November resignation of long-time leader Robert Mugabe.
In the 2013 elections nearly one million would be voters were denied the vote because on voting day they discovered they were not in the constituency voters' roll they expected. If the voters' roll had been released at least one month before nomination day, as is required by law, then many would have found out the mistake in time to have it put right. Zanu PF did not want the "mistake" corrected hence the reason the party stubbornly refuse to release the voters' roll.
It is now four days to voting and still ZEC has not released the voters' roll. One does not need to be an election expert to predict that many would-be voters will be denied the vote on Monday because they will turn up at a polling station only to be told they are not in the polling station voters' roll. No doubt this will be a common problem in opposition strong holds!
So for someone like Chamisa to still think MDC can still win when whatever the opposition tries to do Zanu PF has countless opportunities to counter it is a complete lack of common-sense on the opposition's part. Zanu PF has all the time and opportunity to make sure it is two or three blocks ahead of the opposition whatever happens!
"We can't boycott our victory," said Chamisa. "Winners don't quit."
Here is someone so foolish he cannot accept Zanu PF is not just playing with a loaded dice but one with sixes on all six side. Betting against Zanu PF failing to throw a six is insane because there is nothing else other than a six!
By noon on Monday Chamisa will be complaining that Zanu PF stole the elections when that is what everyone has been warning him of but would not listen. The long suffering people of Zimbabwe deserve a competent opposition not this corrupt and incompetent lot!
@ Knowledge Hakata
I agree 100% that Zimbabweans must reject President Mnangagwa and his regime. And all the 30 reasons you have listed are all perfectly good and logical reasons why people must reject Zanu PF. The most important reason has to be "7 - Rigging Elections" but only because it is the most relevant.
"In 2008 Zimbabweans where deprived of a better and alternative government by Mnangagwa and his junta partners. Mnangagwa has been Mugabe's spin doctor behind election mal practices especially rigging and up to now Zimbabweans are still nursing the long term injuries of poverty due the Zanu Pf which is power hungry and power rusty. Zimbabweans should never elect a thief into a public office again," you argued.
What you have failed to say and appreciate here is that Zanu PF still has the carte blanche power to rig elections. What is the point of asking people to vote President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF out of office when the regime has deprived them of a meaningful vote?
Come Monday millions of Zimbabwe will queue to vote only to told they are not in the voters' roll. Meanwhile Zanu PF will be bussing its supporters from one polling station to the next casting multiple votes. Zanu PF will win with a landslide victory.
By participating in these flawed and illegal elections people will not change the result of ED and Zanu PF victory but only give the process credibility. The people can wave all the red cards they wish for the rest of the week and even for a whole month, that will change nothing.
ED will boast "The people have spoken and the voice of the people is the voice of God!" And you would have provided the smoke screen he wanted to hide his blatant vote rigging!
If there is one thing both Zanu PF and MDC have shown again and again it is that they do not have clue what good governance is all about. When the country gained her independence in 1980 Robert Mugabe had everything going for them to build a free, just and prosperous nations. Greed, sheer shortsightedness and a generous dose of stupidity got the better of them and they killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Whilst a few have got filth rich the rest of the population has become filthy poor. The rich have never really enjoyed their wealth as they have always worried about losing power and become poor.
Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends had the opportunity to end the anarchy ZAnu PF had brought to create a free and just society especially during the GNU. Mugabe offered them the gravy train lifestyle and they forgot all about implementing the democratic changes.
Zimbabwe's economic recovery is now totally dependent on the people see both Zanu PF thugs and the corrupt MDC leaders as irrelevant at best and the nation setting out without them.
@ Mavaza
"Something is happening in Zimbabwe right now, there is a wind of change. Wind from every corner of Zimbabwe, which will breathe new life into politics. The politics of development and indeed it is the politics we all been yearning for," you said.
"Zimbabweans have said loud and clear. That too many families can't make ends meet. That too many Zimbabweans are living in poverty. That they have had enough of the same old .promises which were never fulfilled.. They deserve better. That is why we should dare to bring about change. ED has been cut out of the golden pot. He alone managed to break with a very long policy. We need the Change that is now necessary because Zimbabwe has been running in circles."
This is all very dramatic but then some people love using very dramatic language they always look very foolish when it turns out they were making a mountain out of mole hill. "Zimbabwe has been running in circles" as if it has now stopped running around in circles and yet that is exactly what we are doing.
By failing to implement the democratic reforms ED is blatantly rigging the elections = proof that for all the empty rhetoric of "new dispensation" and "Zimbabwe is open for business!" Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote-rigging thugs!
There is no chance of meaningful economic recovery because no foreign investors and lenders want to do business with thugs! Investors deal with reality and not your wishful thinks and propaganda!
Zanu PF is rigged these elections proof nothing has changed! By noon on Monday these MDC politicians will be wailing "Zanu PF has stolen the elections!" and confirming that, indeed, nothing has changed!
"The expectations of the 2001 legislation hold true today - Zimbabwe must make credible progress towards holding free and fair elections, restore the rule of law and ensure military subordination to the civilian government, among other desperately needed reforms. These are realistic and universally recognized standards," said Ed Royce, Chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
"Both the government and the opposition must follow through on their statements to hold a free, fair and credible election on July 30th. This is an opportunity to chart a dramatic new course for Zimbabwe. We urge the next president to take bold and immediate action to address key governance and economic issues. We stand by the people of Zimbabwe in their efforts to see a more democratic, peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe."
I will say AMEN to that!
If these elections are declared free, fair and credible then they will be the first in human history to be so judged when the authorities have gone to town to make sure there is no credible, clean and verified voters' roll. Zimbabwe's own law clearly states that a verifiable voters' roll must be released a month before nomination day (which was 14 June) at the very latest. We are now 4 days away from voting day and still there is no voters' roll.
It must be noted here that this is not the first time the country has held elections with no verified voters' roll; it happened five years ago in 2013. Zanu PF blatantly rig those elections and with no verified voters' roll, the smoking gun, the regime got away with murder! The same thing is happening this year.
Chairman Ed Royce, these elections are not free, fair and credible and the best course of action is to declare them null and void. With no legal government out of these flawed elections, this will allow the appointment of an interim administration that will be tasked to implement the democratic reform and end this nightmare of rigged elections!
Jovo
Zanu PF is rigging these elections if you cannot see that, then you are blind!
If you think Zanu PF is going to rig the vote and, somehow, lose the elections then you are very naive!
The tragedy about Zimbabwe is that we have some of the most blind and naive people on earth which is why the country is in this mess. What is heart breaking is the nation will never get out of the mess as long as the electorate remain as this blind and naive!
