“(We) declare all who call for sanctions against Zimbabwe and who work against government efforts to resuscitate the economy as enemies of the station and nation of Zimbabwe.
“(We) call upon conference to call on parliament to enact laws that cause an investigation and establishment of facts on people who call for sanctions and economic sabotage. If proved to be true, to make such people not eligible for election to district, provincial council, Member of Parliament, Senator and President position,” said Victor Matemadanda.
What about those who rig elections, who deny millions of Zimbabweans the right to a meaning say in the governance of the country by denying them the right to register to vote, failing to produce a verified voters’ roll, use state aid and farming input to pressure villagers to vote one way, etc.
This call is being made by one who has no clue what they are saying. After decades of imposing Mugabe on the nation Matemadanda is now supporting Mnangagwa with the same blind loyalty.
It is great that our liberation war was fought by men and women who valued the principle of freedom and liberty for all. It is a great pity that amongst these true national heroes and heroines were complete idiots like Matemadanda willing tools in tyrants like Mugabe and Mnangagwa’s hands!
Even now, with the benefit of hindsight people like Matemadanda still do not understand what the true purpose of the liberation war was freedom and liberty for all Zimbabwe and not just Zanu PF ruling elite. Even if he was to live another 100 years and have one explain to him the folly of yesterday’s liberators becoming today’s oppressors, he will never ever understand it. How anyone can be this thick beggars belief!
A healthy and functional democracy demands an informed and vigilant electorate who will hold those in power to account. And the ultimate expression of holding someone to account is the electorate's ability to remove those in power from office in a free, fair and credible election. Elections in Zimbabwe have become a mockery of what democratic elections should be as Zanu PF has usurped the people's right to a meaningful vote.
All the election observers who witnessed Zimbabwe's recent election have all condemned them as "biased, unfair and failed to meet international standards". Even the SADC and AU teams confined themselves to praising how peaceful the process was but did not dare say they were free, fair and credible because they knew they would be lying.
After 38 years of rigged elections and the nation stuck in this hell-on-earth because we have been helpless stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical regime for all those years; the need to restore democratic accountability could not be more clearer and more urgent.
There will be no meaningful economic recovery until we replace the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship with a democratically elected government that is responsive to the demands of the people. This should be obvious to all especially the professionals and intelligentsia! From the way ZHDA members keep harping on and on about better condition from this pariah regime only goes to show how little they understand the linkage between good governance and economic prosperity.
If there is an issue that should unity all Zimbabweans regardless of one's political affiliation, gender, race, tribe, etc. It is the doctors and the other professionals, not unskilled worker muchness the rural peasants whom Zanu PF have reduced to little more than cowering serfs, who should lead in the fight for free, fair and credible elections. Alas, the leaders are themselves clueless what is going on much less what to do about it.
Second only to the corrupt and incompetent politicians, the country’s intelligentsia have been but a curse to this nation!
