If you do not know what you are looking for you are Not going to find it! This is a maxim that rings true in Zimbabwe today.
“Opposition leaders who met President Mnangagwa at State House on Wednesday told him that his attempts to heal the country would come to nought if he did not withdraw soldiers from high density suburbs,” reported Daily News.
“In addition, they said, Mnanagwgwa also needed to punish all members of the security establishment found guilty of human breaches – including killing civilians and raping women during the recent crackdown against protestors.”
Even if Mnangagwa was to withdraw the all soldiers, punish all those responsible for all the extrajudicial mayhem and barbarism, free all the political detainees, etc., etc. this will not change the fundamental political reality that Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs.
Zimbabwe’s opposition politicians should have never taken part in last year’s elections without first demanding the reforms necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. The opposition politicians did not even have the common sense to insist on ZEC releasing a verified voters’ roll.
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery because no investor will ever wants to do business in a pariah state. We should all know this by now after all the years of investors shying away from Zimbabwe.
“Frustrated church leaders yesterday rebuked President Emmerson Mnangagwa and opposition leader Nelson Chamisa for dithering around the country's much talked about national dialogue aimed at resolving Zimbabwe's long-running political and economic crisis,” reported the Daily News is another report.
“The distinguished members of the clergy who gathered in Harare for a high profile meeting on the planned national talks said this was the more surprising as both men had played leading roles in discussions which led to the formation of the nation-saving government of national unity (GNU) in 2009.”
Actually what is frustrating is the naivety of these so called “distinguished members of the clergy”, they have been hungering for political dialogue but without ever asking themselves what exactly they want from the dialogue. Some want Zanu PF and MDC to form a new GNU oblivious of the reality we are in this mess today because the 2008 to 2013 GNU failed to get even one reform implemented in five years.
Zimbabwe’s curse is not only does the country have a corrupt incompetent and tyrannical ruling party in Zanu PF, we also have corrupt and incompetent opposition politicians and, to top it all, a naive and useless civic society! If Zimbabwe is ever to get out of the hell-hole the nation is in, then the people will have to wake-up from their sloth-like slumber if the nation is ever going to have quality leaders across the board the nation is dying for.
