Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess for many reasons and one of those reasons has to be because the nation is cursed in having many citizens with an IQ not much above that of an idiot. There is a mountain of evidence that MDC, for example, is a party of incompetent and corrupt individuals who are more interested in selling out the nation and will never get the nation out of the mess we are in. But, of corse, if you have an IQ of an idiot you will never ever comprehend the evidence or the reality.
“The people look up to this movement (MDC) as a real political alternative to Zanu-PF. The masses stand ready for that call, which President Nelson Chamisa pledged he would make at the MDC's 2019 congress. He promised he would lead the masses towards economic prosperity and reclaim their electoral victory from Zanu-PF theft,” wrote Gifford Mehluli Sibanda in an article "Chamisa must wake up before it is too late"!
You are right, Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections and the MDC leaders have now acknowledged this as a historic fact.
"Legitimacy is an issue - last year's elections were illegal, and not free and fair. All reasonable observers concede that," admitted David Coltart, MDC Alliance Treasurer General.
In other words Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta are ILLEGITIMATE because legitimacy only comes from winning the majority vote in a free, fair and credible elections. It is what Coltart and his fellow MDC leaders are proposing to do restore legitimacy that should have set off alarm bells to ring out like church bells to all those with half a brain.
“We need a political dialogue with Mnangagwa and Zanu PF leading to a power sharing transition authority.” Chamisa and his MDC friends have been calling for.
In other words MDC leaders do not give a damn that Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections as long as the tyrannical regime agree to share power with MDC.
In 2013 Zanu PF rigged the elections and it was none other than MDC leaders who help the regime get away with it as Coltart readily admitted in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” he wrote.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
During the 2008 to 2013 GNU MDC leaders were given the responsibility to implement the democratic reforms which, if implemented, would have stopped Zanu PF rigging elections. They failed to get even one reform implemented in five years. NOT ONE!
How is it possible that anyone can still “look up to MDC” for political and economic salvation give the mountain of evidence of just how breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders are? But then one has only to look at the sorry economic and political mess Zimbabwe is in, to understand how that is not only possible but inevitable.
Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because people have not taken their responsibility, as the electorate, to understand what it is they should look for in a good and competent leader and go out and search for such individuals. A people who still continue to look up to people like Chamisa and Biti as leaders are not only irresponsible but, worse still, are incapable of learning from the past mistakes.
It is you, Sibanda and the thousands of other MDC followers who have followed the party blindly like sheep to the slaughter, not Nelson Chamisa, who should wake up before it is too late,

Zambia and Zimbabwe will start building the 2 400 MW Batoka Gorge hydro power plant next year, a company jointly owned by the two governments said on Tuesday.
This project should have been done and dusted soon after independence we are a poor nation because we have become masters of wasting human and material resources and golden opportunities. It has taken 19 hours of load shedding to finally get the powers that be to finally act. What a mess!
Nelson Chamisa and company have made it clear, they knew that with no democratic reforms in place, Zanu PF would rig the elections denying millions of ordinary Zimbabwean a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The MDC participated in last year's and previous elections regardless for no better reason than selfish greed and worse still they also knew doing so gave the rigged elections credibility.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” wrote David Coltart. There it is in black and white and plain as one’s nose!
MDC A accept last year’s elections were rigged but the party’s participation gave the process some credibility and now they want Mnangagwa and Zanu PF to show their appreciation by conceding a few gravy train seats over and above the few bait seats the regime gave away.
How so many Zimbabweans have failed to see what MDC leaders have been doing under their noses – selling out the right to free, fair and credible elections for a few gravy train seats – is the real mystery here. It is not all who see who perceive just as it is not all who hear who understand. Blessed are those who see and perceive who hear and understand and cursed are those comprehend nothing and spend a lifetime blundering from pillar to post!
Even if the transition authority was to happen, it will not implement even one democratic reform and Zanu PF will rig 2023 elections just as the party has done and MDC A will play its assigned supporting role! The nation will blunder along as it has done these last 40 years. Frankly, we deserve nothing better!
Last year's elections were not free, fair and credible; the Americans, EU, Commonwealth and anyone of substance said so except Zimbabwe's own political players. Mnangagwa and his junta maintain the elections were free, fair and credible, hardly surprising given that they are the ones who rigged the elections and claimed the landslide victory. Only the country's opposition parties and candidates have dutifully concede defeat, all except MDC A who concede defeat in the parliamentary elections but dispute the presidential result.
One of the main reasons for condemning the election was that ZEC failed to produce verified voters' roll and all the V11 forms (summary of the vote count at each polling station) although this is a legal requirement. Chamisa is claiming that he won the presidential race although he too, just like ZEC for Mnangagwa's vote, failed to produce the documentary evidence, the verifies voters' roll, V11, etc.
What is clear is Chamisa is disputing Mnangagwa's victory as a bargaining tactic to force Zanu PF to concede a few more gravy train seats than those Zanu PF gave away as bait.
The truth is all Zimbabwe's opposition parties and candidate KNEW that Zanu PF was going to rig the elections. They also KNEW that Zanu PF would give away a few gravy train seats as bait and it was these they were all after, they did not care that the elections were rigged. This is why they did not condemn the rigged elections. Chamisa is holding out on endorsing the rigged elections for the selfish reason of getting Zanu PF into the transition authority so he and a few other MDC A leaders can get cabinet positions.
The TA will change nothing! We will still have an illegitimate government and, worse still, Zanu PF will see to it that no reforms are implemented and will then go on to rig the 2023 elections.
@ Mapamba
“You are dead on Mukori that the MDC is useless but I always ask you one question always driven from your narrative ...it seems you consider yourself to be above everyone else and you see the situation as one simple puzzle you can sort out with eyes closed so why then don’t you pull up your sleeves and start walking your talk?”
I do not consider myself to be “above everyone else and can sort the puzzle with my eyes closed”. What I have done is merely state the facts as I see them; if you or anyone else believe I am wrong then, be my guest, and state why. We should learn to discuss ideas and not be dragged into petty and egotistic personality issues.
I take it you are impressed by the 23 presidential candidates and 130 political parties who all “pulled up their sleeves and walked the talk” in participating in last year’s elections! Well I am disgusted by them all because only a first-class village idiot would participate in a flawed and illegal elections, knowing the elections will be rigged. ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake and still the village idiots participated!
By participating in these rigged elections the opposition have given the elections credibility and only Zanu PF thugs have gained from that!
@ Gugu Koke
“Umhhhhhh .... why do you write as if you were not there in 2013 and 2018......?”
Well, I was there and I shouted at the top of my voice throughout the GNU that MDC should implement the democratic reforms but was ignored. I shouted that MDC should not go into the 2013 and 2018 elections without reforms but was once again ignored.
But even if I had said nothing or worse still cheered and applauded MDC at every turn as many people did; there is no shame in admitting that was a mistake.
The only mortal who has never ever made a mistake had done nothing! Still it is insane to make the same mistake over and over and not learn from it!
@ Clement Moyo
“If we are going to be so irresponsible, so reckless, so unaccountable, so extravagant and so unprincipled in handling our meagre resources, who is going to trust us with aid and credit lines? If you want to learn about financial mismanagement and unaccountability of the highest order, read the latest government General Auditor Mildred Chari's report.”
You are spot on there.
Our Minister of Finance, Professor Mthuli Ncube, was quick off the mark in coming up with the 2% electronic transaction tax aided at getting a few more dollars from the 90% unemployed even though the majority earned US$ 30 or less per month, “because they were not paying PAYE!” And yet the pompous Minister-Know-It-All has done nothing to end the haemorrhaging of the nation’s wealth and resourcing through mismanagement and corruption.
It is no surprise the IMF, WB and all the reputable financial institution have refused to grant Zimbabwe a single dollar in credit funding even after seeing Minister Mthuli Ncube’s 368 pages Transition Reform Programme. It was all hot air; they did not even bother to read beyond the first page!
"Please come down your high horse of arrogance. Come down from your high horse of living in cloud cuckoo land. This country is suffering, our people are suffering. We must be able to find a permanent solution to reforms. Without reforms, this country can't go forward. This whole thing of changing currency is not going to change our fundamentals," said Nelson Chamisa.
"This situation cannot continue and we must make sure that we put a full stop to this. We will provide leadership. Whatever it takes, we will have to pay the ultimate price in peace, constitutionally, legally. We will bring an end to our suffering," he said.
The MDC has said it will push for peaceful demonstrations to drive Mnangagwa out of power or alternatively, to come to the table for dialogue.
All Chamisa has said so far is that MDC A will hold street protests to push the party’s demand for the formation of the power sharing Transition Authority (TA). He has said nothing about what economic policies MDC A will bring to the table to revive the economy. The truth is they have no policies to offer. Not a sausage!
Chamisa is certainly desperate to see the formation of the TA and to secure a cabinet position for himself. Mnangagwa must know by now that the MDC will not stop the economic rot the country is facing and so it is pointless agreeing to this TA. The only thing Zanu PF will gain in agreeing to the TA is it will shut up MDC A blaming Zanu PF for the economic mess, at least for a while.
ONE of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's advisors says once President Mnangagwa and his bitter rival, the MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, start to talk, the tension in Zimbabwe will be eased and this will bring confidence to our new financial policies.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting, hosted by The Institute of Charted Accountants Zimbabwe (ICAZ), on the implications of currency reforms on business, businessman and member of Mnangagwa's Advisory Council (PAC), Shingi Munyenza said the country needs to deal with confidence deficit.
When Munyenza was appointed a member of the 24 strong PAC the nation was told this would bring quality policies into government and help revive the economy. That did not happen and there is nothing to suggest Chamisa will bring anything new to the regime.
This is just wishful think from advisors who, it is clear, have already run out of ideas!
There only way out of this mess is for Zanu PF to step down to allow the appointment of a interim administration that will implement the reforms and finally allow the nation to hold free, fair and credible elections. In the end, Zanu PF will step down because there is no other way out!
If you think the sanction will be lifted because Chamisa was given a cabinet position, think again. It did not happen during the last GNU and it will not happen this time. The world wants to see real political change in Zimbabwe and not another gimmick.
Zanu PF must step down, that is the political change we are demanding and it is the only one on the table!
ZESA pays up US$10 million or R140 million to ESKOM. Zimbabwe still owed Eskom and Mozambique’s HCB Power about R980 million.
ESKOM has its own problems and cannot be expected to bankroll ZESA especially when there are reports of criminal waste of money and resources by the latter! ESKOM should not be seen to be bankrolling ZESA's corrupt and incompetent leaders!
Mnangagwa must know his "Zimbabwe is open for business!" is dead and buried. With Zimbabwe's economy now in total economic meltdown, his days in power are numbered! The next street protests may be the last for him to preside over!
“We are very clear in terms of our direction. We are not going to be stampeded into doing things, but we will definitely define our destiny as a people. We have a duty to unite, to change our situation, and bring a difference.”
MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms which, implemented fully, would have stop Zanu PF rigging elections and defining a democratic destiny for the country. MDC had five years to implement the reforms and failed to get even one reform implemented. MDC does not have a sense of direction other than a chance to get back on the gravy train through this transition authority!
Yes the introduction of the multi-currency did present its own problems but when the nation was faced with the hyperinflation of 500 billion % and the currency so valueless one need Z$ 35 quadrillion (35 followed by 24 zeros) to US$1.00, empty shop shelves, etc. scrapping the Z$ was the most logical decision.
Bringing back the Z$ at a time when inflation is soaring again, is foolish as this is taking us right back to the 2008 period.
To argue that it is up to "US the people" to make the new system work in a country where the ordinar people have been denied their freedoms and basic rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life is down right naive, to say the least.
These green horn political analyst are a waste of time as they only help the Zanu PF propaganda machine by misleading the people.
This is just nonsense! Monthly inflation rate is 100% and do you know what that means? This means the local currency is losing half of its value every month not only relative to the US$ or UK£, which the presenter clearly hates, but relative to the regional currency such as the Botswana Pula or SA Rand.
What is causing this inflationary pressure is the government award its worker wage increases at a time its collected revenue is falling because of drought, power cuts lasting 19 hours and the usual waste through mismanagement and corruption.
As inflation started to soar business owners and even government workers like teachers, nurses and even soldiers were all demanding to be paid in the more stable foreign currency. The banning of trade in foreign currency will just force people to trade in the local currency which they know is losing value. This will have the effect of slowing down business activities resulting in shortages as happened in 2000 to 2008 when inflation peaked at 500 billion % and Z$35 quadrillion (35x10^24) = US$1.
I hate it when foreigners support our corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical leaders without stopping to hear what we Zimbabweans think and then when things go wrong they mock us!
In all the years of Kenya’s trials and tribulations has inflation in that country ever soared to the dizzying heights of 500 billion %? No, it has never done so! I wish the presenter would stop proffering her Pan-African voodoo economic arguments at other people’s expense!
Chamisa keeps claiming that he has the "key to unlock Zimbabwe's failing economy" but has been careful to give no details. No doubt he will say he will not give away his trump card!
This is just a rerun of what he said before last year's elections when claimed "MDC has strigent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections." He would not say what those measures were but, as we now know, Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections. Indeed MDC did not even have the common sense to demand the production of a verified voters' roll!
Chamisa does not have anything to help revive the Zimbabwe economy he is making the promise just to pressure Mnangagwa into the TA and secure cabinet position for himself and his mates.
Frankly, I wish the TA would happen yesterday so we can finally call Chanisa's bluff and move on. We need to get Zanu PF to step down to allow the meaningful reforms to be implemented! In the end Zanu PF will step down because there is no other way out of this mess!
Zanu PF government and chefs must lead by example by paying their ZESA bills first.
Government promised to have the matter settled by 1 st July 2019 and has missed that date. Inflation is already at 100% and everyone is waiting to see if the government offer will march the rate of inflation! It is government's responsibility to manage inflation something the regime has clearly failed to do!
Is President Kagame suggesting Zimbabwe cannot failed to free, fair and credible elections because of the sanctions? Even before he said it, he must have known that did not make any sense.
Why should the ordinary Zimbabwean be denied their basic and fundamental right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country just because the government is being punished, rightly or wrongly, by the West? What has that got to do with me, the citizen? One does not beat up one's wife and children just because he quarreled with his neighbour!
May people used to hold President Kagame in high regard, it is sad to note that his long stay in power has corrupted him too!
Crisis-stricken Zimbabwe may have landed a raft of major monetary-policy reforms that were dubbed by one analyst as a “Hail-Mary pass.”
None of the economic fundamentals such as the need for printing money to finance expenditure to ensure economic stability have been sorted out. The government had already promised to review the nurses’ wages and the other civil servants’ wages too will need review. It is no secret that the Zimbabwe economy is shrinking given the up 19 hours power cuts and lack of investment. So the increased wage bill will have to be paid with printed money!
The other problems such as rampant corruption and reckless spending on hired luxury jets are still a serious problem.
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs the country will remain a crisis-stricken nation. “Hail-Mary pass!” Yeah right! If anyone catches that one they will break their neck in landing!
@ Gutu
"POLAD will ensure economic turnaround," you say.
What is it does not?
Zanu PF is the government of the day and it has failed to turnaround the economy and we have failed to hold it to democratuc account because the party rigs elections. By participating in these flawed and illegal elections people like you, Obert Gutu, and the rest in the opposition camp have given the rigged elections some modicum of credibility. This POLAD is part and parcel of giving this illegitimate regime credibilty.
"Legitimacy is an issue - last year's elections were illegal, and not free and fair. All reasonable observers concede that," David Coltart, Treasurer General of MDC A, finally admitted.
You, Gutu, and the rest of the other opposition minions will too be forced to admit that last year's elections were rigged and that you are just helping Zanu PF get some undue credibility. In return, Mnangagwa is giving you meaningless role in this utterly useless body POLAD!
“We should all remain focused and be positive.
“Our economy will be great again,” said Madzibaba Bond.
He urged people to remain prayerful adding that God never failed His people.
“God has never failed His people."
Which Bible is this idiot reading?
“You shall not tempt the Lord your God, as you tempted Him in Massah” Deuteronomy 6:16.
Zimbabwe is one of the most corrupt and wasteful nation on earth. Mugabe himself admitted to US$ 15 billion in diamond revenue being “swindled”. Not one swindler has ever been arrested and one dollar recovered. We know the swindling is still taking place because the swindlers are still living in their palatial mansions, driving their posh cars and living their extravagant lifestyles.
We have done nothing to end corruption and some idiot says we must pray for our economy to be great again! If that is not putting the Lord to the test, tell me what is.
Zimbabwe is a rich country with great potential but millions today live in abject poverty because we have allowed mismanagement and corruption to run riot in the country. This is a man-made problem and we are perfectly capable of sort it out if we get off our backsides. God does not do for mankind what mankind can easily do for himself!
"Zanu PF has no desire to change. No to rigged elections!"
Chinono was a Mnangagwa apologist, what happened?
Professor Welshman Ncube is no doubt pleased that Zanu PF will not turn around the Zimbabwe economy because that will increase pressure on Mnangagwa to form the power sharing Transition Authority. Professor, as VP MDC A and former Minister during the 2008 GNU, is cocksure he will get a cabinet position. Not that MDC A will turn around the economy; they too have no idea what to do.
Losing Presidential candidate Dr Daniel Shumba said, "It's clear to all including the Zanu PF regime itself, that the centre can no longer hold. With a no plan and no vision, the Zanu PF regime will continue to run like a headless chicken. Constitutionalism, rule of law, corruption and cronyism are at the core of our challenges. Enough!"
Shumba yaonda! Where was your constitutionalism, rule of law, etc., etc. when you participated in an elections without even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll? By participating you gave the flawed and illegal elections some modicum of credibility, you idiot!
@ Tendai Chimunda
Insiders further observed that the MDC is a movement as the name suggests. It is an omnibus of political ideologies, and suffers a critical dearth of ideological coherence. Among its motley crew are leftists, who argue that the indecision over what course to take is the result of the capture of the MDC by the elite. This group argues that trying to cause people to strike in demand of the USD (US$) is nonsensical, since poor people hardly ever see the USD. The US$ is for the middle class and the elite, i.e. the top class lawyers and car dealers in the MDC.
The MDC has a lot of thinking and internal consensus building to do. The lack of consensus on protests explains why the MDC is using the feeble and gullible #Tajamuka and the slightly more potent ZCTU as guinea pigs. If the guinea pigs fail, the MDC would escape the resultant embarrassment. In the event that the protests become chaotic, the MDC would emerge blameless as it would not be visibly behind the protests. However, if they succeed the MDC would promptly endorse them and hijack the protests before throwing the guinea pigs into the second-class compartment of the revolution.
The economic situation has been getting decidedly worse and worse, not better. Millions of Zimbabweans would have gone into the street to protest their hardships if they thought for one minute that doing so would help end their suffering. They have not done so because they do not see the point.
MDC have been calling for street protest but only to push the party’s selfish agenda of force Zanu PF into the Transition Authority power sharing arrangement. Tendai Biti is as keen as mustard to be Minister of Finance. Chamisa, Coltart, W Ncube and others are all itching for seat on the gravy train. What is also equal true is that MDC A will not help end the economic meltdown; they are just posturing with no solution to offer.
Many people are painfully aware that without a well-articulated vision and plan street protests will be chaotic and accomplish very little. They are not too keen on that and rightly so too!
All MDC A leaders are after is a seat on the gravy train, if they had not sold-out on implementing the democratic reforms this country will be a healthy and fully functional democracy by now. They keep talking of implementing the reforms and holding free and fair elections and yet they are the ones selling that cause at every opportunity. It is no surprise that many ordinary Zimbabwe have already lost faith in the country's ability to hold free elections.
Many people have lost confidence in this Mnangagwa regime's ability to deliver economic recovery. Some people still believe Chamisa "has the key to revive the economy" but more out of desperation than anything else.
The economic recovery Zimbabwe witness after the 2008 GNU will not be repeated this time because the are not that many and significant economic blunders as in 2008 such as the 500 billion % inflation rate to give a knock recovery. The political reforms that could are required will not take place, Zanu PF will block them.
I agree the only way Zimbabwe to get out of this mess is for Zanu PF to step down! MDC leaders' blundering is not helping the cause as they are giving the thugs hope they can but legitimacy!
ZANU PF members will soon run bakeries in every ward to deal with the increasing price of bread and the shortages of wheat affecting the nation.
ZANU PF has announced that Members of Parliament will launch bread making training in their constituencies, targeting 5 people per ward.
This is a regime that has really run out of ideas, it is not government to be organising and running people’s lives to the smallest detail of who bakes bread for every ward, who buys it and at what price. This is made worse when it turns out that people are not able to do these things because government has failed in its duty to make sure there is the economic infrastructure and stability for economic activity and prosperity. This is a government that has failed to govern and is instead interfering in people’s lives because it is obsessed about control.
This is just one of the regime’s many initiatives that will get nowhere. The nation will still have no bread and no money to buy it with even when it is available!
