There were times when the church, especially the Catholic Church, used to be the voice of the oppressed and downtrodden and spoke the truth to power. Alas, those days are long gone and the nations is truly lost. Oh how I miss them days when the church was the light in the darkness, the beacon of hope.
Ever since Zimbabwe’s independence, in 1980, the church has pandered to the whim and diktats of the ruling elite and lost their moral and spiritual compass. The church leaders have continued to pretend they still had the spiritual authority but they did not, for no one can serve two masters especially contrary masters. Either you travel the straight and narrow path to salvation or go down the broad and ease broadway to damnation. There is no deny which route the church in Zimbabwe has been traveling - the broadway to damnation.
Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections. Nothing new, the regime has rigged elections ever since the country’s independence in 1980. The country’s main opposition party, CCC, and the rest in the opposition camp are participating in these flawed elections knowing fully well that the whole process is a mockery and, worst of all, that doing so will give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship and the tragic human suffering it has brought. They are soldiering on regardless because they also know that Zanu PF is offering a few gravy train seats and POLAD freebies to entice the opposition.
David Coltart has summed up Zimbabwe’s precarious political situation in one paragraph.
"The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility," confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.
There is absolutely nothing to be gained by the long suffering povo out of these flawed and illegal elections. Indeed, it is insane for povo to participate in these elections when all they are doing is giving Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating their own misery. Povo are participating in these flawed elections to perpetuate their own suffering out of ignorance and/or fear.
Credit were credit is due, in the late 1990s the people of Zimbabwe came to the consensus that the nation was being dragged deeper and deeper into hell-on-earth by the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime and the only way to end this ruinous reign was for the country to implement democratic changes designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. It was a belated consensus for Zanu PF had had two decades to dig in and was deeply entrenched in every facet of society; up rooting the dictatorship was, per se, going to be a challenge.
Still, better late than never!
The nation’s golden opportunity to implement the democratic changes came during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Alas, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, who the people had risked life and limb to elect into power on the promise the party would implement the changes, sold out. MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in 5 years of the GNU for the same reasons they have been participating in these elections - greed and breath-taking incompetence.
Mugabe bribe Tsvangirai and company with the trappings of high office; the ministerial limos, generous salaries and allowances, a US$4m mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. In return, the MDC leaders throw democratic reforms out of the window!
Although the people had reached the consensus to demand democratic changes, they clearly had no clue what these changes are much less how they would be implemented. Ignorance, the people’s worst curse. And because of their ignorance of what the reforms were, they failed to realised MDC leaders’ betrayal in failing to implement even one reform during the GNU.
Worst still, it is ignorance that has stopped the people from realising the sheer folly of participating in elections “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw” and that participating will give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate their own suffering.
“Any party or politician that incites violence or persuades you to join in violent attacks, is not worthy of your vote,” said the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) in a Pastoral Statement ahead of the country’s general elections scheduled for 23 August 2023.
“Give your vote to those who deserve it. Of the many choices that you are presented with, be discerning with the aid of the Holy Spirit and choose who you want.”
How naive! How insane!
The millions of rural voters are routinely frogmarched to attend Zanu PF rallies and in like manner will be frogmarched to vote for the party on 23 August. These people are no more than medieval serfs beholden to the overbearing Zanu PF landlords; they have no choice.
Zanu PF has already denied 3 m Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote for the obvious reason they were not going to vote for the party. How can these elections be anything but a mockery when one contestant is allowed to cherry pick the electorate to the tune of denying 37% of the potential voters the vote!
Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and the EU recommended 23 reforms to bring Zimbabwe’s elections to accepted international electoral standards. Not even one reform has seen the light of day. It was SADC who proposed the 2008 Global Political Agreement leading to the GNU and they too wanted democratic reforms implemented before elections. They took were ignored by both Zanu PF and MDC/CCC.
Both Zanu PF and CCC are hell bent on these flawed elections going ahead for their own selfish reasons. They both need the people to participate to give the process legitimacy and who would have guessed that the church leaders are now doubling up as political commissars encouraging people to participate in a flawed and unGodly process.
Having encouraged people to participate in these flawed and illegal elections on the presumption the nation does not need reforms, it can win rigged elections; the church leaders cannot complain the elections were rigged. The church leaders know all that and they have played along and issued a muted criticism of the election process in the past. They will do so again in six weeks time!
Of course, it is insane and unGodly to keep participating in elections processes “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw”, etc., etc., expecting a different result; especially after 43 years of Zanu PF Mafiosi rigging elections. Who would have guessed that even our clergy would join in in this unGodly insanity! They have and it underlines the sicken depths of depravity our nation has sunk.

I accept that after being denied the vote by the whites some people have taken to voting post independence like a duck to water. To make them understand the finer detail that voting only has meaning if that vote counts; if the election is free, fair and credible; has been mission impossible especially with those whose intellectual capacity is not much above that of a monkey. They are stick on voting in a rigged election is far “better than not voting at all”!
When your intellectual ability is not much above that of a monkey your are impermeable to reason and logic, even those things everyone else considers obvious and common sense is a mystery of mysteries to the monkey. Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate in Ward 20 Umzingwane, Thokozile Dube, is yet to recover from the trauma she suffered after being violently attacked by suspected Zanu-PF members during last year's by-election.
Dube had her property destroyed for failing to withdraw her candidature in Umzingwane constituency.
While she fears for her life as the August elections approach, she is determined to stand her ground and campaign ahead of the August 23 polls.
"I am living in fear and I am always on the lookout for any strange movements including vehicles. A few days back I ran away from home after hearing some strange voices only to realize that it's people I know," she said.
"As it is I can't wait for the election day to come and pass so that we could be relieved. They preach peace messages but we know that we cannot rely on their word, as we are here we know that we are not free as opposition parties.”
The question is why are we putting ourselves through this? The truth is this could and should have been dealt with during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, MDC leaders failed to implement even one toke reform in five years. Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has strongly urged Zimbabweans living in South Africa to make the trip back home and participate in the presidential and parliamentary elections set for August 23.
“We call on all Zimbabweans who are here in South Africa to go back home and vote. If it means coming back, they can come back, they are more than welcome, but they must do the right thing and go and vote,” Malema said addressing journalists in Johannesburg.
“No-one is going to fight for these Zimbabweans who are loitering the streets here. They are their own liberators. For once, they must take responsibility and get into buses and go home and vote.
“Zimbabweans are called upon to go home and vote, and stop blaming other people for their own misfortunes which they have got solutions to. That solution is August 23, 2023 where they will vote for a government of their choice which will restore peace in that beautiful country,” he said.
One of the prices the nation is now being forced to pay for being a failed state is that even the world’s big buffoons now have the confidence to dictate to Zimbabwe. We have Mbalula saying ANC will not allow regime change in Zimbabwe because hie is fearful if Zanu PF was booted out of office South Africans may want to do the same next years given ANC’s pathetic performance these last 29 years.
On the other hand we have Malema who clears do not know that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and thus is insisting on Zimbabweans going back to Zimbabwe to vote. SADC tried to help by forcing Zanu PF into the 2008 to 2013 GNU which was tasked to implement reforms. MDC sold out by failing to get even one reform implemented. EU have tried the same by giving 23 reform recommendations after the rigged 2018 elections. MDC/CCC has completely ignored the recommendations and, naturally, Zanu PF was glad to do the same.
By insisting on participating in these flawed elections CCC are undermining the international community’s efforts to get reforms implemented before elections. How can the international community help us when we are the ones frustrating everything they do to help?

MDC/CCC failed to implement even one token democratic reform even when they had the golden opportunity to do so during the GNU. Chamisa garnered 45% of the vote in 2018 compared to the 21 others who got a total of 4%. Surely it stands to reason that CCC boycott will be noticed! Why is it that you accept CCC as the main opposition but when asking for leadership, you pretend CCC is just another opposition party!
Even if CCC was one of the small party than garnered less than 1% of the vote the decision to boycott is based on reason and principle and size is irrelevant. The process is “so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw,” and participating will only perpetuate the dictatorship. Boycotting is the only logical and principled course of action; one should take it and not ask who else will. By participating out of greed CCC are just as guilt as the others, Zanu PF laid the bait knowing fully well Chamisa and company will find it irresistible. It is interesting to note that Team Pachedu, SADC (during the 2008 to 2013 GNU), EU and many other bodies have done more to demand reforms and/or free and fair elections than Zimbabwe’s main opposition party MDC/CCC have ever done in 23 years!

Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the votes in March 2008, the people had gone in numbers, but before the results were announce Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF vote rigging juggernaut was switched back on. After six weeks of recounting 5 million votes the 73% was whittled down to 47%, enough to force a runoff. During the runoff wanton violence was used to punish the people for having rejected Zanu PF in the March vote.
The vote rigging juggernaut was supposed to be dismantled with the implementation of democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Not even one token reform was implemented because Tsvangirai and his MDC friends who were entrusted with this key task sold out. Since the GNU debacle, they have given up on reforms and have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for a share of the spoils.

Zanu PF has that taken care of! If one’s vote was still a secret, yes people can vote for who they wanted, boor musango. Your vote in Zimbabwe is NOT a secret, not any more.
In 2008 your vote was a secret because there was a constituency voters’ roll (VR) and one could vote at any one of the 10 or so Polling Stations (PS) in the constituency. Not any more! This year there are 60 or so PS per constituency and there is a PS specific VR. Zanu PF operatives will know with some certainty which one of the 500 (30 000 voters per constituency) voted for the opposition, especially in the rural areas.
And to be doubly sure people vote for Zanu PF, the party has already finalised its plans to frogmarch the voters.
The trouble with some people is lack of common sense. It has not occurred to them why Zanu PF increased the number of PS from 10 to 60 and abolished the constituency VR in favour of PS roll. The rural voters know better and they will vote accordingly.
Once upon a time we had church leaders who stood by the oppressed and downtrodden and spoke truth to power. Not any more. They are political commissars or politicians masquerading as pastors! Vadisi vezvapasi!

CASH STRAPPED CCC CHOSE A BUSH RALLY FOR ITS CAMPAIGN LAUNCH AFTER IT WAS SNUBBED BY THE OPPOSITION RUN BINDURA TOWN COUNCIL

As is often the case, it turns out that there's more to the debacle of CCC's bush rally than meets the eye. For starters, it was initially set for Chipadze Stadium in Bindura on 9 July, but on 3 July the opposition-controlled Bindura Town Council wrote to one of their own, CCC's Susan Mawire:
"We regret to advise that the Chipadze Stadium is currently under renovations as such we are not able to hire it out for any use".
And surprisingly, despite having been advised in writing on 3 July that Chipadze Stadium was not available, CCC's Susan Mawire notified

about their new or alternative venue of Brockdale Pfugari Open Space only three days later on 6 July, while still maintaining 9 July as the rally day.
In choosing Brockdale, reportedly private stands numbers 3889 and 3890, CCC knew that the open space is in fact an undeveloped piece of land, a bushy place with no serviceable roads, no water and no sewer facilities, making it susceptible to the spread of communicable diseases, considering that tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the rally.”
Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends failed to implement even one democratic reforms in five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. Up to this point Tsvangirai and company had made many questionable decisions which many had willingly forgiven, giving him and his colleagues the benefit of the doubt. The failure to implement even one reform in five years was the last straw that broke the camel’s back, proving beyond all doubt that they are corrupt, incompetent and therefore utterly useless.
Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC are hell bent on participating knowing fully well their participation will only give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship. Still they participate regardless because they are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is offering as bait.
Zimbabwe is a failed state and the human suffering it has brought is heart breaking. How long are we going to allow this tragic waste of the nation’s material and human resources, to feed the insatiable greed for power and wealth of the few at the expense of nation, to continue? Another Zanu PF victory in August is a certainty and yet the prospect is unthinkable!
One hopes that in elections “gives citizens an opportunity to judge” those in power, Zuma is endorsing the universal maxim the the mandate to govern is the exclusive right of the people and they convey it in a free, fair and credible elections. And is announcing SADC's departure from the foolishness of the post GNU years in which the regional body endorse rigged elections and granted Zanu PF legitimacy.

Zimbabweans have given up the fight for reforms and free elections and are now fighting to win rigged elections. With no reforms Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to rig elections and we have the privilege of coming up with strategies to counter that.
Of course, it is insane that we are giving up a fundamental right for a frivolous and oxymoronic privilege especially after 43 years of Zanu PF rigging elections.
