NTA is nothing but belling the cat. How do we move from dictatorship to NTA? W Mukori

Rhetoric or reality in Zimbabwe: The failure of the state and the need for a national transitional authority

Standard People

By Ibbo Mandaza | 9h ago

The failure of Zec in 2023 was laid bare even the Sadc Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), but “cured” by the Sadc summit’s congratulations for Zimbabwe holding a "peaceful” election.

By Ibbo Mandaza, Tony Reeler and Obert Masaruare

Now that Zanu PF has again imploded almost irreparably, and with both immanent and imminent threat to the state itself, Zimbabwe faces another moment of uncertainty.

Not least because the other factors, normally attendant to the political process over the tumultuous period since 2000, have declined into insignificance.

The formal opposition lies lame and virtually comatose; Sadc is all but dead and cannot be expected to afford any influence whatsoever.

Likewise, the so-called international community is consumed with more pressing matters than a Zimbabwe now so remote and marginal.

The economy which, though in permanent crisis and has caused both the growth of an informal sector and the exodus of at least 75% of the country’s professional and skilled population, has so far not been the expected fuel of revolutionary change.

The most disturbing aspects of all this is the growing perception in public opinion, that another coup within the Zanu PF state might redeem the situation, even in the face of almost eight years of evidence that this is the very same regime that has wrought havoc over the last two decades or more.

Can Zimbabwe hold a credible election?

Letter from America: Ariel Primary: A school that teaches pupils to be angels

Let’s be clear: the replacement of President Emmerson Mnangagwa with Chiwenga may not in the current circumstances yield the political and economic respite that Zimbabwe sorely needs, even if, as is expected, there will be at least an assault on the current unbridled corruption and its consequences for the state itself.

For, it is obvious that the state in Zimbabwe has over the last two decades been depleted of capacity to deliver, let alone possess the fundamentals of a functioning democracy, namely an accountable executive, a vibrant legislature, and a fiercely independent judiciary.

As we have already stated, Zimbabwe is in dire need of a mechanism, a transitional period during which to introspect, reorganize and find itself towards a new beginning, a National Transitional Authority (NTA).

So, what is to be done? Do we stand by, again, as the internecine power struggle rages within a ruling party now virtually shed of any semblance of its liberation credentials, politically and ideologically vacuous, and its securocrat state, not only incapable of political and economic reform, but also threatened with disintegration before our eyes?

The government claims that the country is moving to the prized status of a “middle-income” country whilst most of the citizens are mired in abject poverty.

Last year over 30 000 young Zimbabweans graduated from the 10 state universities with virtually no prospect of employment other than in the massive informal economy, and this year 6 900 youngsters graduated from Zimbabwe’s oldest university, the University of Zimbabwe, to join the same throng into unemployment.

A recent survey points out that 75% of 1 480 respondents stated that the direction in which the country was going was “very negative”, echoing a similar finding from the Afrobarometer in 2024 where 61% said the same.

Against this background, where does this optimism of the government that the future is rosy come from?

How can the prospects be bright when the ruling party is riven by internal conflict over succession once again? The last time such conflict within Zanu PF occurred the result was a coup.

The great hope at that time was the new regime would undertake the extremely necessary reforms needed to stabilise the economy, dea

Repeatedly stating that we need a NTA without providing a viable mechanism of how we are supposed to move from the dictatorship to NTA is the reason why the later has never happened. The NTA has become the classical belling the cat!

Will support replacing one dictator with another because you cannot IMAGE another better! It goes to show you have very little imagination! It is not surprising coming from some one who would walk on sewage and think it normal!

His Excellency, President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has officially handed over 102 staff vehicles to senior officers at the ZNA Msasa Logistics Garrison Depot. The vehicles represent the first batch of a total of 700 set to be distributed to officers.

The initiative is a major step in improving conditions of service for senior army officers by providing them with their entitled benefits, including vehicles. This provision is expected to enhance both the welfare of the officers and the overall operational efficiency of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces as the nation marches towards vision 2030 with pride…✊🐊

Ever since Blessed Runesu Geza and his war veterans gang, the 4 Amigos, denounced Mnangagwa’s 2030 agenda to extend his rule beyond 2028, Mnangagwa has dished out gifts in the manner of bicycles, cars and launched all manner of schemes to give financial and other assistance to all manner of individuals. All this bee hive activity has been aimed at buying the recipient’s blind loyalty of Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa has been obsessed about consolidating his iron grip on political power the good of Rome has all but forgotten in the pursuit of the glory of Caesar!

The tragedy is the nation’s basic services such as education and health care have all but collapse, sacrificed on the altar of person greed. Sadly this has been going on for years now, the nation is already paying dearly for this. And, worst of all, the nation cannot afford to let this to continue!

Very true! Zanu PF has continued to rig elections because not even one token reform was implemented in 25 years. Indeed, Chamisa and company have been conning people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. The dogs are now working for the croco and are all the barking is to deceive the masses.

Alas! The penny has not dropped that MDC/CCC are now Zanu PF team B in all but name! What will it take to open some people's eyes!

@ J Moyo

Make no mistake: If Zanu PF is in fact entertaining the repeal of the presidential term limit by hook or crook, that would undoubtedly represent a profound threat to Zimbabwe’s democratic framework—even if executed in accordance with the rigorous amendment process in section 328 of the Constitution.

The repeal would demand a Constitutional Bill securing two-thirds affirmative votes from each House of Parliament, followed by approval in two separate national referendums.

Why? Because presidential term limits stand as one of the essential pillars of any democratic constitution—as a bulwark against authoritarian entrenchment.

Without term limits on key officials of the State, the very notion of a democratic constitution crumbles.

Znu PF rigged the 2023 elections and only got away with it because Chamisa conned millions of his supporters to participate in the flawed elections. With no reforms implemented since the 2023 elections, it will be just as ease for the regime to rig the referendums. The big question is how will the regime get away with it.

With no reforms implemented since the 2023 elections everyone will argue the referendum was rigged and the regime will have the impossible task to prove otherwise! Zanu PF is illegitimate already and compounding that situation will be very foolish!

@ Blessed

Has Zanu PF stopped rigging elections in 45 years and counting. No! The regime is set to rig 2028 elections and, with the help of the usual suspects, will get away with it it. It is interesting to note that you are obsessed with stopping anyone trying to put an end to this insanity and aiding and abetting the insanity itself. No wonder we are a failed state!

“For God's sake, truth must be told here and there

White people will never voluntarily dismantle the system that privileges them. It’s not because they’re evil or immoral, it’s just logic.

Why would anyone give up inherited advantages? It’s borderline unfair to even expect this.

You see, privilege isn’t just a mindset, it’s a material structure: Better schools, generational wealth, access to capital, higher trust in institutions, safety, dignity, influence, etc.

These aren’t abstract ideas. They’re daily realities.”

The ancient Greeks were the first to say there are three types of people in the world, the idiots, the tribesman and the citizen. The idiot thinks of only himself to him it is me here and now; nothing else matters. The tribesman cares about himself and the tribe. The tribe is his religion, the leader his demigod and the only law that matters to him is dominate or be dominated.

The citizen cares about himself, the tribe and the society he lives in. He knows that truth matters, he knows the sheer futility of seeking to dominate others and so embrace the more erudite do unto others as you would want them to do unto you.

Zanu PF thugs are tribesmen, at best. Mugabe managed to stay in power for 37 years, lived in unparalleled luxury, in a US$3-4 billion Blue Room Mansion, etc., etc. Was he happy? I would say no! He knew he was a corrupt, incompetent and murderous thug. Zimbabwe is a failed state and evidence of his failure as a leaders were everywhere you looked! No amount of Channel 5 can hide the smell of the skunk for long.

Mnangagwa is just another dictator, another skunk. Every one with a brain can see that Zimbabwe is sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss, they are not fooled by the vision 2030 nonsense.

Zanu PF leaders' number one drive has always been to secure and retain political power at ALL COSTS and hence the party's checked record of the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre, 2008 Operation Mavhotera Papi, the 2017 Operation Restore Legacy military coup and all the rigged elections. Mnangagwa was involved in all these dirty political activities as Mugabe's henchman.

Mnangagwa succeeded Mugabe as Zanu PF party leader and President of Zimbabwe since the 2017 military coup. Mugabe inherited a rich and resourced Zimbabwe from Ian Smith and so he did not have to dig deep to get the wealth with which to buy the blind loyalty of those around him. Mnangagwa was not so luck. By 2017 Zimbabwe's economy was a mess and so he had to dig deep to find the wealth to bribe his fellow party leaders. Corruption has gone into over-drive since Mnangagwa took over.

Yesterday Mnangagwa gave 102 new trucks to top brass in the Army, with a balance of 598 to come. Last week he gave each Zanu PF Central Committee members a new twin-can truck. The previous week it Zanu PF Wowen's league members and so on. All these generous gift are to buy the recipients' blind loyalty to the cause of keeping Mnangagwa in power at all costs.

The glory of Caesar now far out weights the good of Rome - no nation can afford this carry on! The rampant corruption, with most of the looted wealth directed at keeping Mnangagwa in power, is destroying the nation and cannot be allowed to continue!

Why millions have been conned again and again into participating in the flawed elections on the basis of believing idiotic lies of winning the rigged elections beggars belief!

The monkeys rule the roost and the coast of clear for Chamisa to once again lie and con Zimbabweans to participate in flawed 2028 elections to give the regime legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship.

Man is supposed to be a creature of reason, edge to behave like a monkey is som power it is irresistible in some!

Still, we must not allow the howler monkeys have the last word. Chamisa's mission to con the nation to participate in flawed 2028 elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship must be foiled!

The whole world was surprised to hear Fadzai Mahere announce that she and her CCC colleagues were going to participate in the 2023 Zimbabwe elections knowing fully well that Not even one token reform had been implemented since the 2018 rigged elections. The Zanu PF shenanigans were proof Zanu PF was in a panic. "They know CCC is going to win," she insisted.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections. Of course, Mahere & co. KNEW that Zanu PF was rigging the elections and that participating would give the regime legitimacy. Still they insisted on participating, they conned millions to do the same, because they also KNEW that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate.

Mahere was one of the few CCC leaders who did win the bait seats and they all took up their seats after SADC, AU and every other election observer team had dismissed the election process as flawed and illegal. "We used our own money for the election campaign." was their justification. If anything, it sheds even more light as to why they were hell bend on participating no matter what - greed.

Mahere and her colleagues are hell bend on participating in 2028 no matter what for the same reason - greed. She has already hit the campaign trail.

MDC/CCC leaders have been Zanu PF team B in all but name, participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF victory and legitimacy for a share of the spoils of power. The real tragedy for Zimbabwe is that millions have to realise they are being taken for village fools!

A military court in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Tuesday sentenced former president Joseph Kabila to death in absentia, convicting him of crimes including war crimes.

Lt-Gen Joseph Mutombo Katalayi, who presided over the military tribunal in the capital, told the court Kabila was convicted of various crimes, including treason, crimes against humanity, murder, sexual assault, torture and insurrection.

Kabila spent almost two decades in power and only stepped down after deadly protests against him. Since late 2023, he has been residing mostly in South Africa, though he did appear in rebel-held Goma in eastern DRC in May.

Zimbabwe has her own criminals on both side of the political divide; the nation is waiting for the day when some of them will face justice - the day there is real and meaningful political change in the country.

Chamisa Trades Politics for the Red Academic Robe

In a stunning turn of events, former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has seemingly abandoned his political post, leaving his supporters in a state of bewilderment. On September 24, 2025, he departed for Harvard University in the United States, via South Africa, to embark on a three-year journey toward a PhD at the prestigious J.F. Kennedy School of Government.

Chamisa plans to spend the first two years in classrooms, followed by one or two years dedicated to research. His dissertation will tackle the contentious subject of the militarization of electoral politics, with case studies focused on Zimbabwe, Venezuela, and Egypt.

Will the PhD from Harvard University help him learn what constitutes a lie and that he lied when he said he “plugged all vote rigging loop holes to stop Zanu PF rigging 2023 elections. #Godisinit!” He even evoked the name of God.

Robert Mugabe had seven degrees and that did not stop him becoming a corrupt, incompetent and murderous dictator. Mnangagwa has a doctorate and has surrounded himself with University graduate, many with doctorate and even professors and yet his regime is one of the most corrupt , tyrannical and useless in the world.

Some one has to tell our leaders that a University degree is no substitute for common sense much less vision!

Zimbabweans have a tribesman mentality and it is so strong it blinds them of the reality and truths. The Zanu PF minions were told that corruption is the elephant in the room stopping the economic developing and vision 2030. And yet the minions refuse to accept that reality and keep clamouring about sanctions.

But when mass murder is dismissed as a mistake one knows this is tribesman mentality gone mental! Worst of no nation can afford to entrust power to leaders with personality cult mentality. Zimbabwe is being ruled by the Mafia who do not care about the truth, rule of law and the suffering of the masses!

It is amazing that given all the documented evidence of what Chamisa has done, proving that he is not only a mere mortal but a corrupt, incompetent and a liar it is all water off a duck’s back. He is a demigod to some people and every time his name is mentions they hair brace up like a lion’s mane in defence of their demigod.

Indeed all the evidence that Chamisa is not a demigod has the opposite effect - it proves to them that he is a demigod.

The tragedy for Zimbabwe is that the Chamisa chete chete brigade will be conned by another idiotic lie of Chamisa winning the rigged elections and they will participate in flawed elections to perpetuate the dictatorship and the nation’s suffering. The personality cult mentality is so deeply rooted no amount of rational argument has any effect.

Albert Einstein was right that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. What could be more insane than believing a mere mortal is an infallible demigod. A liar an infallible demigod! After 45 years of rigged elections and you still believe winning rigged elections!

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious - withdraw from the (2023) elections. The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

When you have a personality cult mentality facts, truth, logic, etc. all count for nothing. Chamisa is a demigod and therefore he cannot be corrupt, incompetent or a liar. All the evidence saying that he is rejected!

How anyone can consider a mere mortal a demigod in this day and age beggars belief! No wonder we are a failed state and deserve to be a failed state! “I often wonder when it became clear that Zanu was rigging elections. We have members who quickly dismiss perspectives from those who participated in rigged elections. Yet some of these members themselves participated in such sham elections. Did they not have the ability to discern the rigging issues back then?

Did they intentionally CON or unintentionally deceive their voters for the sake of a gravy seat - and did they go back apologise to their thousands of voters after winning or losing?

However- Despite their past involvement we listen to and judge their posts objectively here.

The fact that they participated in flawed elections doesn't seem to be a major concern to us and does not come to the fore instantly.”

There was a time when the nation’s agenda was to elect opposition leaders who will implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Without doubt the 2008 to 2013 GNU did offer the best opportunity to implement the reforms. Alas! The opportunity was wasted.

Since the GNU some opposition leaders changed tune and have been arguing the people to participate in flawed elections claiming they have winning in rigged elections strategies. Of course, the leaders were lying because Zanu PF has rigged elections again and again.

This is the correct narrative of Zimbabwe’s political history. Of course, there are those who have no respect for truths, historic facts or logic because they have a personality cult mentality. They believe Chamisa is a demigod who can do no wrong. They cannot accept that Chamisa lied to con people to participate in flawed elections and so they are coming up with all manner of narratives, anything to prove Chamisa is a demigod!

The Parliament of Zim has received agonizing reports that PermSec in the Ministry of Finance Mr George Guvamatanga is receiving 5-10% for every payment done by Treasury. GG as he is notoriously called has accumulated more than $1 billion becoming the richest civil servant.
Over the past six months, Parliament itself has struggled to operate after being denied its budgeted funds by George Guvamatanga. A civil servant earning less than $1000 GG has more than 5000 dairy cattle, dairy equipment and several mansions hence the proposed lifestyle audit.

George has also made threats to sent a terror team to deal with the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Budgets Dr Energy Mutodi upon hearing that the Committee was considering carrying out a life audit on him as well as asking for a ZACC probe.

If those in power and authority can be easily threatened one can only imagine what the ordinary people face!

The very idea that VP Chiwenga is not corrupt, incompetent and a murderous tyrant is simply absurd. This is why supporting the 2017 military coup was absurd - these are corrupt and murderous thugs pretending they are fighting corruption and will restore democracy. If was foolish to believe the coup plotters and it would be even worse do it now because it will only show that we learned nothing from the past.

As much as we condemn corruption, we must not allow ourselves to be conned into supporting some one pretending to be squeaky clean when we know they are not!

As much as any one can support VP Chiwenga for condemning corruption we should never forget that he is speaking with tongue in the cheek for the sake of conning the people for his own selfish purposes. And so we must never make the mistake of trusting him much less fall into the trap of considering transformed from Saul to Paul and thus squeaky clean.

The trouble with some people is they are easily conned. They are the proverbial woolly mammoth because of their woolly minds!

That is exactly what the people thought in 2017 and where did that land us.

What we want is to dismantle the dictatorship and replace it with a healthy and functioning democracy and not warping one dictator for another.

One of the things Zanu PF has done is to brainwash the people; especially during the war of independence, pungwee were about how powerful the party is and the nation would be lost without it; into believing they cannot think much less act without the party.

If the party leaders were the glorious leaders the nation was spoon-fed into believing they were then why is the nation a failed state?

Zimbabweans have to break the political mould that has cast the ordinary people as subservient serfs forever beholden to the party leaders. Democracy - government of the people, by the people and for the people - demands that the said people must be diligent in holding the elected officials to account. It is absurd for the subservient serf to hold the overbearing lord to account.

Our present political system demands that the people must have a tribesman mentality where the leaders authority is never questioned under the pretext of unity and stability. Democracy demands that the people must have the qualities and status of the citizen, they educated, knowledgeable and objective and they value rule of law.
