Biti offers new economic plan, "HOPE" but with no political reforms first call it hopeless!

A few weeks ago Tendai Biti, the only one in all the MDC factions who has shown that he has a few working brain cells left, admitted to and even apologized to the nation for MDC’s “collective foolishness”. MDC can be rightly called a party of blundering fools because they have blundered from pillar to post.

The most recent blunder by both the MDC-Renewal led by Biti and the MDC-T led by Tsvangirai was the gifting of 14 MPs seat to Zanu PF in the 10 June 2015 by-elections. The Biti faction was foolish in breaking away knowing fully well that would trigger the need for by-election if the MDC-T should exercise their right to recall the breakaway members.

MDC-Renewal’s blunder was in failing to anticipate the recall. It was Tendai Biti who assured the other breakaway members that they will never be recalled. “If that happened, I will change my name to Morgan Mugabe!” said Biti. It was the collective foolishness bug at work because, as we now know, the recall happened.

For MDC-T the collective amnesia was is asking for the rebel seats to be recalled knowing fully well that they would not try to win back the seats since the party had already passed a congress resolution to boycott elections until the reforms they wanted implemented are implemented. Surely it was better for the Zimbabwe opposition cause to have the 14 seats in the opposition camp than in the ruling Zanu PF party.

The worst case of MDC “collective foolishness” was in their failure to get even one reform implemented throughout the five years of the GNU. MDC’s foolishness knows no bounds, because it is over these same reforms, they failed to implement, that they are boycotting the elections.

The immediate consequence of this failure was that Zanu PF was able to rig the July 2013 resulting in the landslide victory for Mugabe and Zanu PF costing MDC leaders their gravy train position in government.

For the nation at large economic consequence of have the same corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime back in power was a 35% Zimbabwe Stock Exchange shares drop the next day after the election results were known. The national economy has continued the downward spiral these last two years as more and more companies have closed pushing unemployment into the stratosphere of 90%. 76% of the people now live on $200 per month or less; far short of the $500 Poverty Datum Line.

“If left to continue, the current situation will lead to cannibalism where human beings will resort to eating human flesh,” Tendai Biti told his supporters in Chitungwiza.

“Most of the deaths being witnessed in the country are either due to starvation or stress related ailments like High Blood Pressure, hypertension and heart attack, because of the economic, political and social decay we are witnessing.

“Going to funerals to pay condolences is now some form of formal employment because many people are stressed up to a level where the strain takes their lives”.

Yes Mr Biti, but why are you telling them things they already know and can see with their own eyes? Why are you not telling them that they would not be in all this mess if you and your MDC friends had implemented the reforms? And whilst still at it, tell the people that the nation will never ever got out of the mess as long as change is being championed by corrupt and incompetent whose “collective foolishness” knows no limit.

“The Renewal Team will, among other issues, launch an economic blue print Holistic Program for Economic Transformation (HOPE), that will outline the party’s strategy on curbing unemployment, attracting Foreign Direct Investment and dealing with external debt,” continued Tendai Biti.

The economic blue print will also proffer the infrastructure expansion and development plan,” he said, urging government to move quickly to repeal the contentious indigenisation laws.

Some people’s mental amnesia is influence by the moon but the “collective foolishness” of MDC leaders is a free agent that knows not about the moon and its cycle. Biti would not be talking all this nonsense of yet another economic blue print if his madness gave him even a few days respite each lunar cycle.

Tendai Biti should know that MDC-T’s economic blue print, RESTART, in the 2013 elections never saw the light of day because Mugabe and Zanu PF won that election. As long as Zanu PF remains in power no one else’s economic blue print will ever see the light of day.

Since Zanu PF rigged the July 2013 elections it follows that the party is in power on the basis of its ability to rig elections and not because the electorate like its own ZimAsset economic blue print. ZimAsset is died and, frankly, Mugabe has never placed any real hope in it ever delivering the 2.2 million new jobs it promised. He knew his election victory was totally dependent on his ability to rig the vote!

So as long as who will form the country’s next government is decided on one thing and one thing only - who is able to rig the elections - what is the point of producing all these economic plans with all the fancy names ZimAsset, RESTART and now HOPE? There is absolutely no point in talking about economic plans or recovery until we have dealt with the political problem of Zanu PF’s ability to rig elections.

Until we implement all the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA, everyone agreed then these were all necessary for free, fair and credible elections and stopping Zanu PF rigging elections; nothing of any substance will ever be achieved. It was infinitely easily to get the reforms implemented during the GNU when Mugabe obliged to under the GPA.

Now with the GPA expired, it will be tough to pressure Mugabe and Zanu PF to get all the reforms implemented. Tough as that is, this is the task before us and we must keep our eyes on that ball.

The nation wasted its best chance yet to implement all the democratic reforms because of the “collective foolishness” of Tendai Biti and his fellow MDC leaders who failed to get even one reform implemented. And today Tendai Biti is once again threatening the process of having the reforms finally implemented by going off at a tangent offering his HOPE economic blue print which, without the political reforms, will never be tested! He is offering hope by offering a hopeless solution!

After their inexcusable betrayal of the people during the GNU the best thing Biti and the rest of the MDC crew should have done is apologize and resign. They have proven beyond all doubt that they are corrupt and incompetent, the “collective foolishness” as Biti called; serious faults over which one will be forced to resign immediately in a healthy and functional democracy.

In Zimbabwe corrupt, incompetent and self-confessed fools have a field day; instead of resigning over their past record of failures and blunders they are all out campaigning for re-election! Actually what the nation needs above all else to get out of this political and economic mess is a savvy electorate. One cannot deny that it was the “collective foolishness” of the electorate that made them elect corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders into power in the first place. It would be folly for the Zimbabwe electorate to re-elect the same corrupt and incompetent individuals back into office but that is one thing one cannot rule out!

Zimbabweans are suffering greatly under the worsening economic situation. But to deal with this problem is like cutting down a tree; if it takes five hours to cut down the tree, four hours was spend sharpening the axe. Before we can deal with the economic meltdown we need a savvy electorate competent to elect leaders who will get all the democratic reforms implemented because nothing will ever be achieved as long as Zanu PF is free to rig elections.

The real big surprise here is that Mugabe and his hardliners will not accept that the economic meltdown is real, they have no solution to the problem and, most significant of all, that the pre-sent economic situation has already reached a critical and dangerous point.

Whilst allowing the situation to continue is costly in human suffering and deaths now and in years to come - recovery will take longer the deeper the nation continues to sink. What Mugabe and his hardliners must also realize is the nation will be less forgiving to them the deeper into this mess they drag the nation.

Mugabe will have to be really naive if he thinks he and his family can hold on to the Gushungo Dairy Farm or the Blue Roof worth billions of dollars, for example, all paid for by the taxpayer whilst millions of Zimbabweans continue to languish in abject poverty. The greater the economic chasm between the ruling elite and the impoverished masses the more compelling the case for the looted wealth to be recovered in some kind of restorative justice.

“It is a new type of democracy where two vice presidents report to a person who was not elected. This only started last year at the so-called December congress. I however do not think that this type of democracy will take us far and we now have to wait and see how this circus ends,” Mutasa said.

If the truth be told, Comrade Mutasa it was the corrupt and tyrannical autocracy that has ruled Zimbabwe throughout 34 years of your time in Zanu PF has landed the nation into hell-hole. So you have nothing to crow about, comrade. Still, there can be no hiding the fact that the nation has now jumped from the frying pan into the hell’s inferno; one shudders to think what an empty drum like Grace would be instructing the two VPs, equally empty drums by their own right.

When the nation is in serious economic and political trouble and is desperate to good government it now has the worst government the nation has ever had! And the empty drums now ruling the nation are all as determined as ever to hold on to power and to remind us all that they are the boss!

We are in serious trouble and the signs are things are going to get a hell lot worse! It is moments like this that one feels the full weight of MDC’s failure to implement the reforms and thus stop Zanu PF getting back into power in 2013! People like Tsvangirai must never be allowed to keep the $4 million Highlands mansion; even Judas Iscariot did not keep the thirty pieces of silver for his treasonous betrayal.

I agree with you, the Zimbabwe masses "have buried their heads in the sand and kowtowed to Mugabe and Zanu PF, elevating them to godly status" for the first 20 years since independence. When they finally woke up to the reality that Mugabe is not a god but a corrupt and murderous tyrant they then switched their subservient loyalty from Mugabe and Zanu PF to Tsvangirai and MDC.

It precisely because the Zimbabwe public had their heads in the sand that they failed to see that MDC leaders were corrupt and incompetent. Even now many Zimbabwe still fail to realize that not even one democratic reform was implemented throughout the GNU because MDC had sold-out!

Look at what Raila Odinga accomplished in Kenya, he too was forced to go into a GNU in 2008 but he got his head down and implemented all the democratic reform. Kenya's next elections were free, fair and credible. For the first time in Kenya's history, the country's public media gave all contesting candidate equal coverage and even had televised presidential candidate debates.

The people of Zimbabwe have failed to see Tsvangirai and the other MDC leaders for the cor-rupt, incompetent and sell-outs they are because the people have their heads in the sand. In-stead of waking up to the reality that they are naive and gullible these people will defend their stance and even accuse those who dare point out their weakness as "cowards with a Pull Him Down and will bad mouth, backstab, snitch on anyone who shows signs o ......".

There is no one blinder than he who would not open their physical and mental eyes! A life time of sloth like slumber has turned their brain into fatty tissue and all these people can do now is eat, shit and say nonsense, the odd occasion their wake up from their slumber.

The human brain is the most powerful organ on earth and hence the reason mankind has achieved so much. My heart bleeds profusely to see a human being whose mental activity is not much more than a sloth – what a criminal waste of brain power and human life!

Zimbabwe is in this hell-hole because we have an electorate who want good government but will not do their bit, will not even open their eyes, to earn such a government. Well we are not getting out of this hell-hole until their open their eyes and take their responsibility of electing competent leaders with the seriousness the matter demands!

Both Zanu PF and MDC have done a good job of convincing the Zimbabwe electorate that they should leave everything to the political leaders for they alone know best what is good for the people and nation. Admittedly the politicians did not have to do much since the option of getting everything for nothing appealed to the masses' naive and gullible nature.

It has been easy for political leaders to promise the moon on a silver platter and deliver hell-on-earth and still get away with it. Yes the people have suffered, living in hell is not easy, but be-cause they have no clue what the leaders have been doing the people have been helpless as to what to do.

A naive and gullible electorate will never produce a good and competent government - that is the reality we have to deal with!

Mliswa says Jonathan Moyo will be replaced as Minister of Information.

Themba Mliswa you were MP because you had the right political connections and not because you are smart so stop playing this silly game of pretending you are the fountain of wisdom! Now you have lost your political position you will be sinking fast economically and politically. Good bye my pretentious friend, the game is up!

@ Patrick

The musical chairs is now being played at such a fast tempo and the consequences of being kicked out are so high everyone in Zanu PF including Mugabe himself is thankful to survive the day because they all know their luck is going to run out any day now!

Zanu PF politics has become a high risk and very stressful occupation. No doubt VP Mnangagwa and VP Mphoko has all been taking notes at whatever Grace said just to impress her!

@ Bobsled

Mugabe is fighting his own losing battles, at home he has a nagging wife who is bullying him all the time, do this do that; no I will do this, etc.!

He used to enjoy traveling and now he is fearful of having his photo taken fast asleep or worse being ambushed by Adeola and asked about rigged elections, especially now that Didymus Mutasa has confined he rigged elections!

Who would have believed that being president could be such a cursed! Mugabe rigged the 2013 elections and now he must be wishing he had not done so!

@ Mliswa

“I certainly commend the First Lady for dealing with issues of corruption, going for them, true I like that. Yes, Mai Mujuru is corrupt, Didymus Mutasa is corrupt, but First Lady you are missing Chombo, you are missing Kasukuwere; you are missing Obert Mpofu,” said Mliswa.

True all the people you have named above are corrupt but why not just say everyone in Zanu PF is corrupt including yourself Mliswa but even more so Grace and Mugabe. Who does not know that Zanu PF is a party of corrupt and murderous thugs!

@ Patrick

I agree, they cannot give up power now when doing so will mean sinking into abject poverty as we have seen how none of them can survive outside the party and then there is the little matter of all the skeletons they do not want the world to know about. Still even they must know that there is nowhere the whole nation will allow itself to be dragged even deeper into this hell so that they can avoid paying the price for their dirty past!

@ dissident

I think deep down Grace knows that she is useless and the reason she is trying so hard to impress and remind everyone she has power. She did not have to tell anyone the two VPs have to consult her but she did to prove to the nation she is powerful. The news of the two VPs grovelling to her took several runs down the contempt ladder in the eyes of the people; but unfortunately for her, without taking her even one step up!

People see Grace as a control freak with no common sense!

What they care about is power, they only pay lip service to democratic reforms in much the same way Mugabe paid lip service to freedom, justice and human rights. They have both banked on the voters not noticing their duplicity. Of course MDC leaders sold-out and they are not even ashamed that they sold-out. Indeed they will do that again and again as long as they stand to profit from selling out and the fact that they will get away with it is a bonus.

A naive and gullible electorate create the right political environment for scum to rise to the top and it will rise!

@ tawanda

There is no political party in Zimbabwe today which you can say in all honest has articulated even one coherent idea on any of the many challenges facing the country. Having failed to score on quality it has been a common tendency to then try to make up for the lack of quality by increasing quantity. The hope being with the increase in quantities there will be quality.

Experience has shown that political coalition made up of parties that lacked quality to start with produce a new animal that is has inherited all the worst qualities of each of the individuals con-tributing to its formation without inheriting any of their few good attributes.

Mugabe sold the signing of the unity accords between Zanu PF and PF Zapu as a positive thing, for example. The truth is it enabled him to turn members of the two parties into yes-man killing all meaningful criticism and debate; the quality of government policies went down the tube.

Like it or not the split of the MDC into two different factions has forced the two sides to get out of their comfort zone of knowing the voters were so desperate for regime change they would vote for anyone as long as he/she was not a Zanu PF member. Each MDC member had to prove they are better than the opposing MDC faction member.

Morgan Tsvangirai has already proven to be corrupt and incompetent and so too has Mai Mujuru after 34 years of her sitting in government doing nothing other than looting. How anyone would think a grand coalition by these two will produce a competent government beggars belief!

If Zimbabweans have paid as much attention on getting quality leaders as they have wasted in trying to at a grand coalition from mediocre parties the country would not be stuck in this hell-hole. We should stop our obsession with quantity; history has proven time and time again that it is a very poor substitute for quality!

@ Maita

The GPA was not ideal and I would have never agreed to it if I was in Tsvangirai's shoes for the same reasons you have give; it gave Mugabe too much power. The question one has to ask here is: was it possible for MDC to implement the democratic reform within the frame work of the GPA and the GNU? The answer is yes.

The next question one has then to ask is why did MDC failed to get even one reform implemented? The answer to that question is they did not even try to get one reform implemented because Mugabe had bribe them with the gravy train good life.It is the same gravy train promises the tyrant has used on his own Zanu PF cronies turning them into yes-man, "ma small houses a Bob" as you called them.

SADC heads for all the other shortcoming, they nonetheless did try their best to warn MDC on the need to implement the reforms it is just that Tsvangirai and his MDC friends would not listen. They were too "busy enjoying being in government they forgot why they were there!" as SADC heads acidly remark soon after the July 2013 rigged elections.

No SADC wanted the reforms to be implemented but you will not give them credit for that. You accept that Zanu PF members sold-out but will not accept that MDC members sold-out too! You clearly have a problem, you will not accept the fact that Tsvangirai et al are corrupt, incompetent and sell-out regardless of the mountain of evidence proving that they are.

What you and thousands of others who too refuse to accept the truth and reality must know is that facts, truth and reality are like time which will not lose a nanosecond waiting for any one, the truth, facts and reality will not change one iota to accommodate some fool.

Yes, my friend you are just a fool.

Years of sloth like mental inactivity has atrophied your brain turning brain tissue into useless fat! In theory, it is possible to reverse the process but let me tell you; it is infinitely easier to turn a couch potato into a Usain Bolt athlete than to get an idiot to increase his IQ by even two points.

When it comes to brain power; it is a matter of use it and the more it is used the better and more powerful it get or lose it and, once lost, there is no getting it back!

In conclusion therefore you, Maita, will never comprehend the reality that Tsvangirai is corrupt, incompetent and a sell-out because you do not have the mental capacity to process the evidence before you and come out to what, by all account, is the obvious conclusion. It will take you another ten or fifteen years if at all to accept Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent individual he is. Sadly the nations is desperate to get out of this hell-hole and therefore cannot wait for your sloth mind to catch-up.

Thomas Mafumo complains of being monitored by the notorious CIO.

Didymus Mutasa revealed three weeks ago that there are "many CIO agents"! As their former boss, he should know.

So here we are with more CIO agents than possibly teachers and doctors put together. We have CIO employed to monitor the internet 24/7, CIO to listen to our telephone calls, CIO in every village to intimidate ordinary people and now we learn even innocent people like Thomas Mafumo is CIO agents shadowing him everywhere.

Zimbabwe, our Zimbabwe, has become a Police State comparable to North Korea!

I agree, Zimbabwe has remained a peaceful country throughout all the years of the country's political, economic and social trials and tribulations. Sadly the situation is beginning to change, there has been too many stories of people being murdered for $5 or something trivial like a mug of beer!

There is a real danger that we may have pushed the nation beyond its breaking point and having done so, with no more social inhibitions gone, we are now in for a real nightmare. Having tipped one way, it may well take a long time to tip back to normal again even if all the political, economic and social issues that cause this problem are all taken away. As things stand, there is every sign that the political chaos, the economic meltdown and the social mistrust will get worse and not better!
