Tsvangirai announce "first convergence" for change - forgetting the 1980 and 2008 convergence!

Morgan Tsvangirai tells the 2000 people gathered to remember and pray for Itai Dzamara’s safe return the gathers is raising the bar to stop future political abductions.

“For the first time, there is a convergence on what needs to be done to bring Zimbabwe back on track. We have raised the bar and never again in Zimbabwe will a person disappear without trace and nothing is done about it,” said Tsvangirai.

Was MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) not founded on the promise to bring democratic change in Zimbabwe? Back then in 1999 there was a convergence on change and many people have since been beaten, raped and over 500 murdered in 2008 alone. Their sacrifice did allow you, Comrade Morgan Tsvangirai and many of your MDC colleagues to get into government and cabinet and the best chance to bring about the democratic reforms.

For five years of the GNU MDC had the best chance this nation has had in 35 years to end this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship by implementing the democratic reforms agree in the 2008 GPA. Not even one reform was implemented. Not one!

MDC failed to implement even one reform because Mugabe had bribed its leaders with the gravy train good life to kick the reforms into the tall grass. They accepted the bribes and kicked the reforms into the tall grass. You Mr Tsvangirai you got the $4 million Highlands mansion as party of your bribe.

MDC leaders sold out on the democratic reforms which, if implemented, would have stopped Zanu PF rigged the July 2013 elections; stop the lawlessness including the abduction of Itai Dzamara; etc.

No Mr Tsvangirai this is not the first time the people of Zimbabwe have converged to demand democratic change and justice. The first time was before independence; from the ordinary men and women in the villages who helped shelter and feed the freedom fighters, to the young men and women, the Mujimbas and Chimbidos, who acted as messengers right up to the freedom fighters and their commanders; all the people played a part is the liberation of the country.

Sadly, soon after independence Mugabe bribe his Zanu PF cronies with the promise of the gravy train good life if they betrayed the people’s dreams of freedom, justice, human rights and a fair share in the nation’s abundant wealth.  Just as MDC have done, Zanu PF cronies too accepted the bribe and help Mugabe build this corrupt and murderous tyrannical regime and the rest is history.

So there was a national political convergence to end white colonial oppression and exploitation before independence only for Mugabe and Zanu PF to betray the people and deny them their basic rights and freedoms soon thereafter. There was another national political convergence notably in 2008 to end the Zanu PF dictatorship which failed because MDC leaders sold-out.

Mr Tsvangirai you do not want to acknowledge the 2008 political convergence and sacrifice made by the people of Zimbabwe because you do not want to acknowledge that you and your MDC friends betrayed the people and sold-out. As a result of the rigged July 2013 elections, you and your MDC friends were kicked off the gravy train; you are calling for a new political convergence in the hope that it will propel you back into power.

Mr Tsvangirai you have never cared about bringing “Zimbabwe back on track” because you would have done so during the GNU when the country had its best chance ever to do so. All you have ever cared about is being on the gravy train.

The people of Zimbabwe have been yearning for freedom, justice, human rights and a life with dignity. They were foolish to have trust Mugabe and Zanu PF to delivery good governance in 1980; very foolish to have trusted you and MDC in 2008, considering they should have learned from the nation’s recent history; and it would be an unforgivable act of folly if the nation should trust yet again the same MDC leaders who sold-out during the GNU!  The people of Zimbabwe must now know what MDC want is a seat back on the gravy train.

@ Brian

One of the main reasons why MDC failed to implement even one of the democratic reforms and, worse still, are getting away with it is that many of the electorate, our friend Brian here being a typical example, did not have a clue what the reforms were, how they were to be implemented, etc., etc. It is now two years since the rigged elections and poor Brian has had the time for the reality of the rigged elections to sink in but clearly nothing has sunk in.

Brian the primary objective of the GNU was to write a new democratic constitution and implement a raft of democratic reforms to ensure the country's next elections will be free, fair and credible. Our GNU was similar to the one Raila Odinga had in Kenya in 2008 following the disputed elections in that country.

Whilst Raila Odinga, who too was Prime Minister like Tsvangirai, put his head down and imple-mented the reforms and Kenya's last elections were free, fair and credible. Sadly Tsvangirai did not do the same, he was too busy gallivanting round the world and chasing women of ill repute, he failed to get even one reform implemented. Not one!

The consequence of MDC's failure to implement the reforms was that Zanu PF rigged the July 22013 elections.

If you think the new constitution was enough to deliver free and fair elections, which is what MDC leaders said repeatedly before the March 2013 referendum to pass the constitution, then why was the July 2013 elections not free and fair.

Yes, I have spoken about democratic reforms and very little else because until we implement the reforms we will never have free and fair elections and without free and fair elections we will be stuck with this corrupt and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship.

You Brian and many others have clearly failed to understand the critical importance of the re-forms but be that as it is that does not change the fact that they are important. Since when has the truth, reality and facts followed the wildebeest herd that follow blindly without ever stopping to think or ask where they are going.

Thank God there are a few people like Patrick with the intellect to see the wood from the trees who have their physical eyes and ears open and the brain to comprehend the world as a thinking human being is supposed to!

@ Patrick

Most of the leaders of our NGOs and civic society had no clue what the GNU was supposed to do; whilst SADC leaders called on MDC to implement the democratic reforms, for example, our NGOs did not join in because they did not know anything about these reforms. So it was not only Tsvangirai and his MDC friends who were breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent; Macdonald Lewanika, Dewa Mavhinga and their NGO friends too were breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent.

So I agree with you 100% that the civic society in Zimbabwe have been totally useless!

What is depressing here is that these NGOs and civic leaders have learnt nothing from the past; they are still pledging their blind loyalty to the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders like Tsvangirai. What we have here is the convergence of the corrupt and incompetent with the confused and inapt; only a fool would place any hope on this lot getting the nation out of the hell-hole we are in!

@ Brian

I do not support Zanu PF because they a corrupt and murderous tyrants. I do not support Tsvangirai and his MDC friends because they have proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they are corrupt and incompetent. They failed to implement even one reform during the five years of the GNU when they had SADC support; it will be folly to trust them to implement these reforms now when Zanu PF holds all the tramp cards.

My mission is to make sure the nation does not make the foolish mistake of supporting MDC and this these village idiots will ever get out of this mess.

It is not enough to understand that we need to get the corrupt and murderous Zanu PF dictator-ship out; we have clearly failed to do these last 15 years and will fail in the future unless we pay attention to getting competent leaders who will implement the reforms. Tsvangirai and MDC are not the competent leaders to do this, period.

The trouble with shallow minded people like you Brian is that having identified Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs as the bad guys you have to accept Tsvangirai and his MDC friends as the good guys regardless how many times they have blundered and failed to deliver the democratic changes, their set task. You see monochrome, black or white, good or bad.

Unlike you, I accept Mugabe is a corrupt and murderous tyrant because he is. I also accept Tsvangirai is a corrupt and incompetent village idiot because that is what he has proven to be. I have the courage to accept the reality that it will take a competent leader to get the cunning fox Mugabe out of office and thus discard the incompetent Tsvangirai and go looking for someone else.

I see the world as it really is in all its colours of the rainbow and what is even more important I refuse by myopic individuals like you Brian to see the world as you see is - in monochrome! Just because you do not have the mental capacity to see all the colours of the rainbow is no excuse for me to switch off my brain to bring it down to your sloth like level of activity!

You have lived all your life with your head stuck one or the other of our political leaders’ back-sides that is why you are brain-dead. I will never ever stick my head into anyone’s backside, my brain has always had a good supply of oxygen and I intend to keep it that way!

@ Mseyamwa

It is people like you, Mseyamwa you have never understood what the reforms were about and their critical importance as the pre-requisite to getting us out of this mess who in your naive stu-pidity now think the failure to get even one reform implemented is "now part of history and what is required now is to move forward"! There is no moving forward until all the reforms are imple-mented.

Without the reforms Zanu PF will rig the next elections just as they rigged all the other past elections.

People like you need to get it in their heads what the reforms are and why they are so important because it is only then that you will finally realize Tsvangirai and his MDC friends will never get any of the reforms implemented and finally elect leaders who can.

The first task is to get you nincompoops to think for once in your whole life and stop following village idiots like Tsvangirai. You keep wittering about alternative leaders, unless you open your eyes and snap out of your comatose sloth-like slumber how would you know the individual is not just another village idiot, who like Tsvangirai will promise to deliver change but only to sell-out once he got into power?

@ Mdhara

Jabulani and Themba were kicked out of Zanu PF fighting and screaming because they wanted to stay; those are not the actions of someone has "seen the evilness of Zanu PF"!

These two are offering their services as thugs to go and fight Zanu PF; that is not going to create a democratic Zimbabwe but perpetuate the culture of political violence and thuggery.

Tsvangirai had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship peacefully by implement-ed the democratic reforms, had five years to do so, SADC egged him to do so, and yet he failed to get even one reform implemented. Not one! And now the village idiot is teaming up with former Zanu PF thugs to accomplish what he failed to do peacefully!

Tsvangirai sold-out by failing to get even one reform implemented only the politically naive and gullible would believe he would ever deliver anything.

"Morgan is the Man of the people!" Sure thing and he must have forgotten that for five years when Mugabe offered him the $4 million Highlands mansion in return for kicking all reforms into the tall grass!

@ Yoba

Did you ever understand what the 2008 GPA was about? If you did then you would have known that at the very heart of the agreement was a raft of democratic reforms which all the signato-ries, including Zanu PF, to the agreement agreed must be implemented to ensure the country’s next elections were free, fair and credible.

Tsvangirai and MDC failed to get even one of these reforms implemented because Mugabe bribed them with the gravy train good life plus the $ 4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai.

Yes Zanu PF rigged the July 2013 elections but that was self-evident before the elections were held; without the reforms the elections would not be free and fair. We only need to implement the reforms and we will have free and fair elections.

It was infinitely easier to have implemented all the reforms during the GNU when the GPA was still in force than it is to do so now. Still that does not mean it cannot be done. The first step in getting the reforms to be implemented now will be to get the people themselves to understand what these reforms are about and why they are important.

We need competent leaders who will implement the reforms and only an informed electorate that understand the reforms can elect such leaders. At the present we have village idiots like Tsvangirai who have already proven they are corrupt and incompetent on the political stage making all manner of distractive noise and even teaming up with murderous thugs! Of course whilst there is all this mindless and incoherent political chatter and chaos Zanu PF will take full advantage and resist any meaningful political reforms.

MDC leaders have already proven that they are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent and the fact that there are still some Zimbabweans who still continue to follow them only tell the whole world Zimbabweans are not yet ready to take the business of good governance with the seriousness it demands.

Electing the village idiots in the past was bad enough but do so again when they have proven they are idiots is unforgivable! We clearly do not want to put an end to our suffering and so the nightmare will continue!

@ Machacha

I will be the first person to agree with you that in the GNU Tsvangirai had the short straw; indeed I would go even further to say MDC should have stood firm and demand that they be given more meaningful political power or there will be no GNU.

However, if we accept the GNU with all its shortcoming; the important question then is did MDC have enough space to implement the all important democratic reform? The answer to that has to be an unequivocal yes.

MDC had five years and SADC backing to implement the reforms and yet they failed to get even one reform implemented because Mugabe had bribed them to kick the reforms into the tall grass. SADC leaders complained of MDC leaders “enjoying themselves whilst in the GNU and forgetting why they were there” in sheer exasperation.

MDC leader have proven that they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. That anyone should be grappling with this with all the evidence of MDC blundering only goes to show just shallow and naïve they are!

Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because we have some of the naïve and gullible electorate on earth. The tragedy is as long as these idiots continue to go around with their heads buried in the backside of village idiots like Tsvangirai of murderous tyrants like Mugabe then the nation will remain stuck in this mess!

Yes it is idiots like you Machacha who have helped dragged the nation into this mess and now your stupidity is keeps us there! After two years of explaining to you that Tsvangirai is a sell-out ; you need a kick in the backside and I am here to oblige.

The destiny of this great nation is at stake. It is clear the only way to save this nation from yet another Tsvangirai blunder is by kicked the village idiots who will not see Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent village idiot he is. So as long as you continue to bury your head in Tsvangirai’s backside, you will get your backside kicked!

Love the cartoon, it captures the essence of Mugabe and Zanu PF political mentality.
In 2008, it was the Zanu PF political system had Tsvangirai's family jewels, after the "devil incarnate" outburst it was Jonathan Moyo who had Mugabe's jewels, December last year it was Mai Mujuru and her supporters who were being squeezed, etc. The greatest squeeze however is being done by the economic meltdown; the whole Zanu PF cabal are sweating and the situation is set to get worse and not better until they accept political reform.

The economic meltdown is creating the opportunity for the nation to end the Zanu PF dictatorship but unless the people understand the reforms, I agree, this could be yet another wasted opportunity!

@Gutu

“The MDC would like to encourage all patriotic Zimbabweans, living in the country and in the Diaspora, to join hands in peacefully pushing the corrupt, insensitive, incompetent and violent Zanu PF regime out of power. ……… etc., etc. Zimbabwe needs a fresh start,” you say.

You still do not want to accept that Zimbabwe had its best chance ever during the GNU to im-plement all the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA which would have stop Zanu PF rigging the elections and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship once and once for all. It was MDC who failed the nation by failing to get even one of the democratic reforms implemented. Not one.

MDC had the time, five years, had the opportunity, the GPA, and had the backing and encour-agement of SADC who were the guarantor of the agreement; to implement the reforms. There are only three reasons why MDC did not implement any reforms; the party’s leaders are breath-takingly incompetent, corrupt and they are sell-out.

MDC is taking advantage of the people’s worsening economic misery to get them to elect MDC back into power although the party will do nothing to end the Zanu PF tyrannical rule.

If MDC failed to get even one reform implemented during the GNU when the party had all the tramp cards what chance is there they will do it now when Zanu PF has the tramp cards?

The only way the nation is going to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and thus have a truly “fresh start” is by first of all getting rid of the corrupt, incompetent and sell-out leaders and electing competent ones!

The people of Zimbabwe were naïve, gullible and foolish to have trusted corrupt and incompetent leaders like Tendai Biti and Morgan Tsvangirai to deliver on their promise to bring change. It would be unforgivable folly for this nation to elect corrupt and incompetent leaders ever again much less elect the same village idiots who have already proven beyond all doubt that they are corrupt and incompetent!

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where citizens earn on average US$394.25 a year, ranks as the poorest country in the world. Above the DRC was Zimbabwe where, in 2013, people earned US$589.25 on average.

The only other SADC country in the bottom ten with Zimbabwe is Malawi, which is ranked 8th poorest with average annual incomes reaching US$893 in 2013.

Zambia, whose Kwacha Zimbabweans loved to mock not so long ago, ranks far higher with annual average incomes more than double Zimbabwe’s at $1,800 in 2013 while in Mozambique citizens earned $1,200 on average in 2013.

Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is real and it does not matter how much Mugabe and Zanu PF is going to pretend this is not happening and that this situation is sustainable.

@ TomJoad15

I agree to expect the dictatorship to carry out reforms design it end the dictatorship is a nonsensical proposition. The reforms should have been implemented during the GNU when Zanu PF, through the GPA, was committed to reform.

How ironic and downright stupid that the same MDC idiots who failed to implement the reforms when they had the opportunity to do so are now calling on the dictator to implement the reforms!
