Mugabe should stop posturing and end corruption or else resign

Zimbabwe Social Democrats call upon Mugabe to stop the cynical political posturing and address the problem of rampant corruption or otherwise resign before it is too late.
We in the ZSD dismiss the recent admission by Deputy Minister of Youth and Empowerment, Mathias Tongofa, that the youth empowerment policy had been a failure and thus would be discontinued as cynical gimmick comparable to the regime’s painting of the late Shamuyarira’s house the day he died.

The late Nathan Shamuyarira, was a Zanu PF grandee with 25 years of service in ministerial position, died a pauper; proof that poverty has now reached the inner most sanctuary of the Zanu PF ruling elite. The day he died, at 4.00 pm the party had his house painted to hide the years of neglect, rot and decay indicative of the grinding poverty and despair of those dwelt there.

Mrs Shamuyarira, herself a Matron at Parerenyatwa Hospital for donkey years, could not even afford the bus fare to visit her husband on his death bed. What comfort did painting the front of the house (it is almost certain that only the front was painted) bring to her when the real problems of unpaid bills, no food, lack of running water, etc. were left untouched to weigh her down.

Poverty is a cruel taskmaster who will haunt you to your early grave. Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown has left many people unable to earn a living and thus keep poverty at bay.

Growing old is something all mortals dread because with age comes other challenges; poverty makes those challenges unbearable. It is decades of Zanu PF misrule that has turned Zimbabwe, a once prosperous country, into one of the poorest. Painting the late Shamuyarira’s house to hide the evidence of the poverty he had endured to the end whilst doing nothing to help his impoverished widow was a sick, cruel and cynical Zanu PF joke.

We view the announcement to discontinue the youth empowerment projects as a middle finger gesture by Zanu PF to the long suffering people of Zimbabwe. The regime is struggling to pay the wages of civil servants and therefore has no money for little else. The regime is making a big song and dance about the millions it will save by cancelling the youth empowerment projects is an empty gesture to hide it failure to address the problem of rampant corruption fuelling the country’s economic meltdown.

The regime has done little to end the boardroom rampant corruption as exemplified by huge salaries paid to PSMAS CEO and board member Cuthbert Dube and George Charamba, Mugabe’s spokesman. Indeed the regime has been doing the exact opposite by making even more political appointments.
Minister of Energy, Dzikamayi Mavhaire appointed a busload of board members to ZESA and its subsidiary companies. “Dusted down” political appointees, as one newspaper called them, being rescued from the ravishing of the cruel taskmaster, poverty and will do nothing to end the mismanagement and corruption in ZESA.

“It is as good as you are questioning why President Mugabe approved those boards,” responded Minister Mavhaire when he was questioned on the political appointments.

Conclusion
Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is real and so too is the grinding poverty its accompanying twin and now the unwelcome permanent guest in every home in Zimbabwe. If a Zanu PF grandee like Nathan Shamuyarira could not keep poverty at bay; what more the ordinary man and woman with no resources and no political influence!
Whitewashing the Shamuyarira house did not end the poverty within just as scrapping none existent youth projects will not end the criminal waste of resources by the on-going boardroom rampant corruption.
The appointing of a busload of Zanu PF loyalists to be board members will rescue the individuals from poverty but only to condemn millions of fellow Zimbabweans to worse economic suffering and despair as the nation economic meltdown get worse.
The truth is Mugabe cannot meaningful address the problem of rampant corruption because he is himself both the commander-in-chief of the looting brigade and the chief beneficiary of the looting. Whilst Mugabe has his “Blue Roof” mansion and give away lavish gifts like the Mapfeni Farm in Mazowe for his daughter Bona Nyepudzai; all those round him will feel they too have a right to loot and catch up with him!
We call upon Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies to accept that political and economic model they have imposed on the nation these last 34 years has failed as it has produced poverty and despair throughout the land. Not even party grandees like Nathan Shamuyarira and many, many others have been able to escape the grinding poverty that is now everywhere.
Since the rigged 2013 elections Mugabe and his cronies thought they could rig economic recovery too but have clearly failed to do so. The economic situation has got worse and worse since then not better and this regime should not drag the nation any deeper into this hell.
There are two options for Mugabe and his cronies either to resign now or be forced out of offices under chaotic circumstances costly to both the party and the nation at large. The regime should know that the window of opportunity to resign is closing with each passing day!

@ Lulubell

I thought that was the one thing Zimbabwe has been crying for a political party. I do not call Zanu PF a political party; that is a group of corrupt and murderous thugs who have murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans for the single purpose of staying in power and loot!

I do not call MDC a political party because that is another group of idiots led by one of the most incompetent individual in modern human history. How that lot failed to see the importance of the democratic reforms and getting them implemented is the most mind boggling question of our time.

Zimbabwe Social Democrats is a political party of principled Zimbabweans committed to delivery free, fair and credible elections. And to thus guarantee the basic right to a free vote, denied them by Mugabe for 34 years and by Smith before that, for the first time and for all times!

A political party that can deliver that is the only party worthy of the name and respect of the people of Zimbabwe!

I do not hate Tsvangirai but hate his breath-taking incompetence that landed the nation is this mess.

You are just a simpleton who love and would follow Tsvangirai regardless his serious shortcom-ings. You do not have clue what the democratic reforms MDC was supposed to have implement-ed were about, even now with hindsight. I and a few others have tried to explain to you what these reforms were and why they are important but it is like talking to a brick-wall.

You joined the herd of wildebeest in their red MDC regalia screaming "Jinja! Jinja!" but without a clue what you wanted changed. If Tsvangirai had implemented the reforms then you would have got the democratic changes you were screaming for! As I said, you are a simpleton.

Well there destiny of the whole nation is at stake here and it would be totally irresponsible of me to let Tsvangirai lead the nation into yet another disaster. He has the brains of a goat and should go back to Buhera to herd goats. As for you, you can follow him there!

Forget all the rubbish where I am because that had nothing to do with Tsvangirai's incompetence and Mugabe being a dictator because we all know that he is. What is at issue here is did Tsvangirai and MDC have a chance to end the Zanu PF dictatorship by implementing the democratic reforms or not? Just answer that question and spare me the nonsense!

The right to see a voters roll and have the document issued is essential for free and fair elections. Mugabe says the 2013 elections were free and fair but would not release the voters roll. I am only pointing at the glaring contradiction there!

You left the most important bit - none of the members have shed any innocent blood of even one Zimbabwean.

I bet you are one of those idiots Mugabe used to do his dirty work and are now scared stiff of regime change because you will have to account for the blood on your hands. Well tough shit; we are not going to let this nation suffer any longer just to keep you from facing justice! Just is just let justice be done!

"EU now seeing very clearly and engaging Harare"! Dream on, dream on! How much has the EU contributed to the $27 billion ZimAsset begging bowl - not a farthing!

The EU refused to give Grace Mugabe a visa to travel to Europe although they knew just how desperately she wanted to. The EU knew it was going to cause so much anger and confusion in the Zanu PF regime and it did and that was exactly what they wanted.

We all know the Zanu PF is desperate for some friends right now but not even the lure of Ma-range diamonds has bought it many friends.

The Israeli and Nikuv are not real friends but the most cunning conman there is. They told Mugabe their vote rigging plan of tampering with the voters roll was foolproof. The tyrant paid them a princely sum of $13 million only to discover a couple of high school drop outs could have done the same thing.

Now the tyrant is stuck with a voters roll he cannot dare release because all the evidence of the rigged elections are there for all to see.

Mugabe is finished. As for you justice is catching up with you; there is nowhere for you to hide!

“Well, I am better informed, experienced and knowledgeable than you Wilbert Muroyi. I go home every so often and as such have first-hand information on Zimbabwe,” you say.

I am sure that you are Chimbwido are very well informed, especially on matters of me being “incarcerated at Chikurubi for crimes against humanity you committed many years ago and some you continue to commit while in the diaspora today”. We both know that the regime has never bothered about any of the usual niceties of actually charging and of its victims of any-thing much less have them convicted in a court of law! So I will stay put and till the regime finally curve in and collapse. It will not be long now.

On the matter of Shamuyarira; Margret Dongo said she saw the painters at 4.00 pm the day he died painting his house to hide the years of neglect, rot and decay. Are you saying she is lying?

Mugabe himself admitted that Shamuyarira was poor. Is he lying too?

Tell me something Chimbwido, since you are so well informed; did the painters paint the back of Shamuyarira’s house or just the front? Well, one cannot put it beyond Zanu PF to do something as peevishly devious as that!

Power corruption and absolute power corrupts absolutely so absolutely that those exercising it become so blind they destroy themselves with it. In the past Zimbabweans used to look at the ruling elite with envy, now one cannot help but mock at their assumed airs.

Look at Shamuyarira he died a pauper and totally disillusioned man. He had spent decades of his life building this monster called Zanu PF only for it to eat him alive. As if suddenly aware of it’s own wrongdoing the party had his house painted to hide the years of neglect, rot and decay and, as if to rub it in, declared him a national hero!

History will remember Shamuyarira as one of those whose greed and selfishness turn the coun-try full of hope in 1980 into a hell-on-earth in 34 years. In life, he had first-hand experience of what life is really, really like in this Zanu PF hell! He is not the only one, poverty has reached every corner of the Zimbabwe society; poverty does not care one’s standing in the ruling Zanu PF party even party grandees like Shamuyarira have failed to keep it at bay! What good is having absolute power if one does not have the very bare necessities of life like clean running water and food!

Even Mugabe is his Blue Roof mansion must be worried. His columned hall mansion with its scented rooms is completely surrounded by rot and decay and grinding poverty. His mansion is nothing but an oasis in the middle of the desert completely surrounded by sand domes a mile high; it is just a question of time before the sand flood in and bury him and everything he stood for!

He gave his daughter Mapfeni Farm in Mazowe but must know that she will never grow old on that farm. She will never hold on to all the looted wealth he gave her; the contrast with the poverty of the ordinary people is to glaring not to be noticed.

An S W Radio Africa report shows parastatal bosses are still getting huge salaries contrary to Finance Minister claim that all their salaries were to be capped at $6 000.00.

Mugabe cannot do anything to end the corruption because he is the commander in chief of the looting brigade and its chief beneficiary. His flouting is looted wealth; $ 1 million birthday party, a $10 million wedding for his daughter and held in his $20 million Blue Roof mansion and then he has just given his daughter, Bona Nyepudzai, Mapfeni Farm in Mazowe worth millions too! It is no surprise his cronies are all on a looting spree to feather their own nests too!

@ Coolage

Security sector reforms were about ending the Mugabe's excessive influence in the sector which had turned the Police, Army, CIO and Prison Services into just departments in the party Zanu PF at his beckon and call. The reforms would have given parliament a say in the appointment and dismissal of all service chiefs, to demand an explanation on their performance, etc.

A reformed security sector would have given parliament power to have an serving chief dis-missed for making the remarks you are talking about above. Indeed it was exactly for such stupid talk that made reforms absolutely necessary but in you confused mind you seem to think that because of the stupid talk the reforms could not be implemented.

It was not for Zvinavashe or any other security chief to propose and implement the reforms; Tsvangirai and MDC were supposed to do that. Why did they not get even one reform imple-mented? They had the majority in parliament and five years to do it and yet failed to get even one reform implemented. Not even one! Not a sausage!

Spare us the long winded and feeble excuses. Tsvangirai and MDC failed to implement the re-forms because they are corrupt; Tsvangirai got his Highlands mansion, vhara muromo, and was too busy chasing women of ill repute to do anything else. But most significantly, they were and still are breathtakingly incompetent!

As for you, Coolage; even with the benefit of hindsight you are still failing to comprehend the importance of the democratic reforms. Give you big mouth a rest and may be your brain may catch up; you are not as smart as you think you are!

WOZA’s Jenni Williams dismiss Tsvangirai’s call for mass protest as a political posturing to get media attention. She is spot on!

“I believe, because of his track record of calling for protests, that it is just a call for publicity so that journalists like you will maybe write about him and maybe give him a little bit more promi-nence. But on the ground, if there was something happening, I would have heard about it,” said Jenni Williams of Tsvangirai.

If there is going to be any public demonstration or rioting – God forbid – it would be because the people cannot bear the suffering in silence anymore and not because Tsvangirai called for such a thing!

It is heartening to notice that WOZA members have finally come round to the realisation that Tsvangirai is an incompetent leader after all the years of giving him and MDC their blind loyalty. WOZA’s biggest blunder was in giving its support to the weak and feeble Copac constitution in the March 2013 referendum. The constitution was approved and even if it was adopted wholesale; the Police will still have the power to man handle, kick and arrest peaceful demonstrators, for example.

As far as Ms Williams was concerned only the late Joshua Nkomo could have deliver freedom and human rights. “There was, way back, someone who could have done something better, and that is the late Joshua Nkomo, because he was a pure nationalist. Someone like that – maybe – could have made a difference,” she said.

She must have forgotten that the late Joshua Nkomo was one of the two Vice Presidents (1987 to his death 1999) and a number of his PF Zapu leaders holding senior government positions, ever since his party signed the unity accords with Mugabe’s Zanu PF in 1987. The Zanu PF dictatorship continued with it brutal repression and political intolerance; Nkomo and his PF Zapu friends benefited from the one-party dictatorship and indeed enjoyed the absolute power no less than Mugabe himself. Joshua Nkomo a “pure nationalist”; get over!

Last week Minister Nhema admitted those who got the seized farms were failing to use them and gvt was taking the farms away. And now Mugabe is saying he is seizing even more farms!

Mugabe has failed to rig economic recovery and the economic meltdown has got worse. He knows there will be trouble ahead as the long suffering masses can not be expected to continue to suffer in silence forever. He intends to use brute force to silence all internal dissent and claim the West is criticising for seizing the white farms to silence external outcry.

This is a cynical game Mugabe has played for years!

The tyrant must go or he is going to drag this nation into the abyss with him!

@ Greenbomber

Mugabe has failed to rig economic recovery and he knows the people are unhappy and are get-ting increasingly restless.

He needed to provoke the West so he has a ready-made excuse when the whole world starts to criticise him for the wave of violence he is about to unleash on the ordinary people protesting the worsening economic situation. As far as he is concerned all protesters will be protesting against his farm seizures and nothing else!

@ Andy

You are right there Andy, Mugabe is following some scorched earth policy! He has failed to rule the country and now he is doing his best to make sure the country's economy is completely de-stroyed and after years of importing weapons the country has enough bullets, grenades and bombs to reduce every building to rubble, injure millions and kill hundreds of thousands.

Yap, Mugabe is making Zimbabwe economically poor and politically ungovernable. He is destroying everything! No one is to succeed where he has failed; shaisano, as one would say in Shona.

@ Chimbwido

He crossed the line when claimed there was no leadership crisis in Zimbabwe when everyone knows that there is! The Mugabe dictatorship now in government was not elected by the people of Zimbabwe, the tyrant rigged the elections.

There are internationally accepted norms of how free, fair and credible elections should be con-ducted and Mugabe violated those norms. How can you have free elections with no voters roll, for example, and yet that is exactly what Mugabe did! He has refused to release the voters roll because it is the smoking gun to the rigged elections!

I have nothing against the EU Ambassador representing EU interests but draw the line to him misrepresenting the interests of the people of Zimbabwe!

You say the EU "has already changed course and now want to engage the Mugabe govern-ment". After a year of staring at that mockingly empty ZimAsset begging bowl even Mugabe must be wondering what the fcuk the EU is playing at. "When is the EU going to finally engage and fill that begging bowl; it is doing my head-in!" Mugabe has been muttering to himself! And it has been doing his head-in alright!

After the tyrant rigged the 2013 elections he thought he would get away with it and the West will roll out the red carpet for him. He was shocked when the West, including the EU, refused to accepted the blatantly rigged elections as free and fair and so refused to offer any financial assistance to the regime. Mugabe thought his Chinese friends will bankroll his $27 billion ZimAsset plan but even they said no. So he is back to the EU and has been hoping they will re-engage and fill the empty ZimAsset begging bowl. The EU has been blowing hot and cold over this for months now and meanwhile the Zimbabwe economy has continued to sink. The government cannot even pay civil servants; it is not surprising that Mugabe is hoping mad about EU taking forever to re-engage and give him the money!
