G40 will "boot out" Mnangagwa but to what end given Zanu PF is imploding!

“A political analyst Obert Mundevere Ncube has said the possibilities are high that vice President Emmerson Mnagagwa will be soon booted out of the ruling Zanu PF and government like what happened to the former Vice President Joice Mujuru as the rift between him and the Generation 40 which seems to be aligned to first lady Grace Mugabe seem to be widening,” reported Stephen Jakes, a regular commentator on Bulawayo24.

Zanu PF is imploding because the party is rotten to the core. It is academic which side of the domed edifice will curve in first. However it is nonsensical to even suggest that whichever side is left standing will survive, standing on thin air!

Robert Mugabe has always been a loner; his speciality was to encourage everyone else to belong to one of the three or four existing factions which he actively promoted. He then played the divide and rule game. When the chips, were down as was the case with the coming elective congress last year when all Zanu PF members had to choose to join the Mujuru faction or Mnangagwa factions, many people were shock that even the likes of Sydney Sekeramai who have been as faithful as a dog to Mugabe had picked one of the two factions. There was no one in Mugabe’s corner. Not a sausage!

G40 is not a Zanu PF faction in any sense of that word. All the main G40 players, Saviour Kasukuwere, Jonathan Moyo, etc. were in Mnangagwa’s camp; they have never had any faction of their own. Moyo is not trusted by anyone; his “turn coat” reputation has made him untrustworthy. As for Grace Mugabe she has inherited no faction from her husband other than the feather-weight nephew, Patrick Zhuwao.

The G40 has no grass-root support in Zanu PF the party. Beside “baby dumping”, as Grace Mugabe called it,  Joice Mujuru and many of her lieutenants in the party and government; Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa instituted an orgy in which key Mujuru supporters were kicked out of office in stage managed vote-of-no-confidence. The posts were then filled with Mnangagwa faction loyalists. This was a worrying move; the party was imposing leaders with no grass root support.

In the last three months a number of these Mnangagwa loyalists have found themselves being purged in a new wave of vote-of-no-confidence instigated by Grace Mugabe and her G40 cabal. The Mnangagwa loyalists had very little grass root support but the G40 candidates have even less grass root support. Indeed, following Grace Mugabe’s recent visit to Manicaland an attempt was made to purge a Mnangagwa leader only for the vote-of-no-confidence to be reverse days later.

“Happiness Nyakuedzwa, who was ousted as the Zanu PF Manicaland Women's League Chairperson on Sunday evening, has defied the vote of no confidence passed against her,” Bulawayo24 reported, 20 October 2015.

Nyakuedzwa today convened and chaired a provincial executive meeting in Mutare which reversed the vote of no confidence.

The Zanu PF Women's League national executive member and Politburo member, Monica Mutsvangwa who attended the meeting with other national executive members said cadres who are fuelling divisions and destabilising the party in the province are wasting their time.

Monica Mutsvangwa is the wife of Minister Chris Mutsvangwa, a well-known Mnangagwa supporter who has declared war on the G40.

“Baby dumping” Joice Mujuru and her supporters was easy – not that the job is done, since she still has many supporters who still carry Zanu PF membership cards but whose allegiance is not certain – doing the same to Emmerson Mnangagwa will not be so easy!

Whichever Zanu PF faction, be it Mnangagwa or the G40, will gain the upper hand it will face an even tougher challenge from the economic meltdown. Robert Mugabe has used the nation’s economic wealth and rich resources to buy the loyalty of Zanu PF leaders. The new leader, be it Mnangagwa or Grace Mugabe, will inherit a bankrupt economy in total meltdown; he/she will have nothing with which to reward those around him or her let alone those from the opposing camp(s).

Zanu PF is imploding because the economic meltdown has left Mugabe with little wealth and riches with which to bribe the growing army of party loyalists whose ravenous appetites is only matched by their wastefulness. Mugabe’s tried and tested divide and rule strategy worked as long as he had loot, the sedative and glue that calmed and held the factional members constituting the supporting columns holding up the Zanu PF edifice. Without the loot, the supporting columns have started to thin out as factional members started to peel off.

Zanu PF is imploding because without the core supporting columns are dissolving away and the solid rock of grass root supporters on which the columns stood is fast turning into quick sand. The Zanu PF edifice is falling in because no structure can stand on thin air.
