VP Mphoko is fast becoming
yet another Simon Muzenda whose admiration of Mugabe not only blinded him from
seeing the tyrant for the monster he is but worse still he expected the rest of
us to be equally blind!
"The truth that will
never change is that President Mugabe and the late VP Nkomo are the founding
fathers of our nation," argued VP Mphoko. "We should honour them for
the legacy they are going to leave us. Some of us take pride in honouring
foreign heroes in Britain and America, but people in those countries will never
do that to our own heroes."
Unemployment has soared to
nauseating heights of 90% plus and 16% or 2 million Zimbabweans now live in
abject poverty, they cannot afford even one decent meal a day. What is there
for all these people to be proud of?
Before independence this
nation produced enough food to feed all our people with plenty left over for
export. Ever since the violent and chaotic white farm invasions because Mugabe
needed land to give out to his ever demanding but wasteful cronies this country
has had to import food. As of today 1.3 million Zimbabweans are going to starve
if they do not get imported food aid.
In a day and age when
other nations have turned deserts into green pastures; we are starving in the
Garden of Eden! What is there to proud of in that?
It is now 35 years after
the nation attained her independence and our people still live under the yoke
of political oppression denied their basic freedoms and rights including the
right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life. This Zanu PF regime is
yet to hold a free, fair and credible election. Over 30 000 innocent
Zimbabweans have been murdered in politically motivated violence.
It is understandable why
VP Mphoko is getting carried away in his praise of Mugabe; after all he owes
his elevation to the post of VP to Mugabe and no one else. Last year’s the Zanu
PF elective congress was supposed to the top four party positions elect, Mugabe
unconstitutionally changed the party’s constitution to dent party members a
vote. He usurped all the elective powers so he alone appoints and fires the two
second secretaries in the party (two VPs in government) all the members in the
politburo in party, cabinet members. As Commander-in-Chief, Mugabe
appoints/fires all the commissioned officers in the Army, he appoints/fires all
the judges, he appoints/fires the Police Commissioner and other senior members,
he appoints/fires all the Vice Chancellors of all the country’s universities
and colleges, etc., etc.
VP Mphoko is just another
Zimbabwean who is totally beholden to the all-powerful Robert Gabriel Mugabe.
Still VP Mphoko should not be carried away into expecting the rest of the
populous, who are the victim of the tyrannical regime, to join him in his
eulogies to the tyrant.
VP Mphoko must remember
that he was not elected by Zanu PF congress just as Mugabe was not elected by
the people of Zimbabwe in a free, fair and credible election.
