Mugabe squandered $3 billion in a vote rigging operation and now 2.2 million Zimbabweans are starving!

Hardly three months after Mugabe squandered over $3 billion in a vote rigging operation the country is begging for money to buy food for 2,2 million Zimbabweans facing starvation! There are reports of villagers living on wild fruits and there is still another four months to go before the next harvest!

Mugabe had Tendai Biti and Patrick Chinamasa out begging for $100 million to pay for the writing of a new democratic constitution and the international community contributed. The money was wasted in inflated expenses for the ruling elite with nothing to show for it. The Copac constitution was rubbish as the July 2013 elections have since shown.

Mugabe tried to beg for more money for the referendum and then the elections themselves and not even the UN were taken in this time. The regime has billions of dollars coming in from the sale of Marange diamonds and only Mugabe and his cronies are benefiting. Begging is one thing but begging when you are filthy rich is simply intolerable!

Mugabe used some of the diamonds loot to finance the July vote rigging.

As long as Mugabe and his cronies continue to rack in billions of dollars from diamonds few people will want to assist the nation in any way. The 2.2 million Zimbabweans now facing starvation are just some of the victims of this.

New Zimbabwe says it will delete abusive articles and comments!

Hear, hear! There are those who have always relied on violence or the threat of violence both physical and verbal who have refused to listen to reason. Yes their comments must be deleted; we can not let the lunatic fringe hold the whole nation to ransom!

@ Mukavabhutsu

The AU said in their report that the voters roll was not made public because there was a comput-er break down. That raised more questions than it answered:

1) If the computer had indeed broken down and made it impossible for the authorities to have a voters roll then what did they use at each of the 9 000 polling stations on 31 st July 2013?

2) Observers have reported of nearly a million voters being turned away on voting day be-cause their name was not in the voters roll in that particular ward. One million out of two million valid votes cast for Mugabe and one million for Tsvangirai; in other words those denied the right to vote constitute the winning candidate's winning margin! So why were the names of one million voters not on the voters roll in the correct ward?

3) If the AU really believed that the production of a voters roll at least "14 days before the elections" is essential for free, fair and credible elections and the Commission also be-lieved the Zimbabwe government's failure to do so in this case was a purely a logistic and technical problem. Then why did the AU not withhold they decision until the voters roll was issued to all the parties and it was confirmed there were no serious anomalies in the roll?

4) Now that it is clear there are very serious anomalies and Mugabe is still refusing to re-lease the voters rolls for fear of even more anomalies being discovered; will the AU own up and admit the Zimbabwe elections were not free, fair and credible?

5) Is the AU really that incompetent that someone can blatantly rig an elections and the continental body with observers on the ground will still judge the election free, fair and credible?

@ Zenzo

If you are so sure that nothing irregular happened then you must be really angry that Mudede has up to now failed to release the voters rolls. This is a rerun of the 2008 elections when Mugabe refused to declare the election results for five weeks! He has already out done himself; as of today 3 November Mugabe has had 95 days after the elections to release the voters roll! Of course we all, yes that includes you, know why he is refusing to release the voters roll. It is like getting teeth out of a hen!

But do not worry it is not only dentists who know how to extract teeth, you know.

Huku inomwa mazai inopiswa muromo. A hen that has the dirty habit of feeding on eggs will have its beak burnt-off. If you wanted to extract the hen’s teeth to stop it feeding on eggs, burning the beak will achieve the same objective. It is a crude way of getting the hen to stop her dirty habit but, yeah, it works!

The need to stop the dirty habit of vote rigging is the key to ending the decades of gross mis-management, corruption and brutal political repression; the root causes of Zimbabwe’s economic melt-down and the heart breaking human suffering and over 30 000 political murders.

Rigging elections is a dirty habit; no nation in its right mind should ever tolerate. And we must put an end to this habit now; not in five years, now! We need to see that voters roll and scrutinize it carefully for any evidence of vote rigging and Mugabe can hand it over freely or he will be compelled to do so. We will get that voters roll.

Mugabe can spend the rest of his life with his tongue sticking out like a hen with a burnt beak; if that is what it will take to stop him rigging elections, then so be it!

@ Masunungure

It is nonsense to suggest that Zanu PF thrives on chaos; that is an oxymoron. Mugabe "won" the July 2013 elections not because the Zanu PF was able to "unit and fight off the common enemy". It was the breath-taking incompetence of Tsvangirai and MDC that allowed Mugabe to blatantly rig the elections.

What Mugabe and Zanu PF have done to the national economy; the mismanagement, corruption and all-out looting, now that is what one can call chaos. Surely no one in Zimbabwe has thrived from the mess chaos spawned; not even Mugabe and the few in his inner most circle. Indeed the only reason why it is dog-eat-dog within Zanu PF itself is because not even the looted wealth can protect them from the economic reality we ordinary Zimbabweans are facing hence desperate fight to hang on to any position of power and the little protection that offers!

Of course Mugabe and most of his cronies will never admit it, but they need to be rescued from the Zanu PF dictatorship just as the rest of us do. The chaos the dictatorship created is simply not sustainable.

@ Murozvi

No it is you who have missed the point.

I know many Zimbabweans who owned businesses in Zimbabwe, have University qualifications, etc. but have been forced to leave the country and would consider themselves lucky to be a waiter in SA. For it is infinitely better to be a waiter in SA than be an unemployed University graduate! That is the point!

@ Adam

Canada Partnership said Mugabe got $2 billion a year from the sell of his share of looted Marange diamonds in 2012 alone. So it is easy so see how he could easily have a war-chest of $3 billion. As for spending it, that was the least of his problems.

He paid Nikuv $13 million, $20 million to buy new cars for Zanu PF candidates to ensure they do not de-campaign as happened in 2008, he must have paid hundred of millions in hiring buses to ferry all those paid crowds who attended Zanu PF rallies, he paid the same to ferry the paid multiple voters, since the rigged elections Mugabe has been hundreds of millions to all those how made the vote rigging possible. The vote rigging was so blatant he has had to bribe millions of people to keep them quiet. Vhara muromo is not cheap!

$3 billion is nothing! The problem for most of us is that we can not imagine ever having $ 1 000, having $100 000 is net value of everyone in our region and everything beyond that is far beyond our wildest imaginings. We are not only malnourished physically but mentally as well!
