Zanu PF Politburo to meet 4 June 2014 to endorse scrapping of the indigenisation policy but still that will not be enough for investors!

Zanu-PF’s Politburo meets tomorrow, Wednesday 4 June 2014 to deliberate on several issues including the indigenisation and black empowerment policies. God knows the party has agonised on this.

Ever since the regime realised that no one was going to contribute towards its $27 billion ZimAsset economic recovery plan, not even one dollar and it is now ten months of rattling the bowl, the regime has been forced to tone down, climb down, you know on its flagship policies of indigenisation and black empowerment.

The indigenisation policy of forcing foreigners to sell 51% of the shares to blacks was passed into law back in 2008 but has never been fully implemented. It had been left hanging over the investors already in the country like the sword of Damocles. Of course would be investors have stayed away; who would want to live in constant fear of the Zanu PF looting brigade knocking at your door – everyone has seen what these jambanjas did to the white farmers!

Everyone in the know has told Mugabe he will have to do something about these indigenisation policies if he wants foreign direct investment to flow back into the country.

Everyone in the cabinet including the say-nothing, hear-nothing and do-nothing (other than loot, of course) Mai Mujuru has been out telling everyone the policy will never be implemented. Chinamasa went even as far as calling it “nonsense”! That had no effect on the both donors to the ZimAsset and investors, they has shied away from Zimbabwe. So back to square one!

Zanu-PF’s Politburo will be endorsing the scraping of both the indigenisation and black empowerment policies and Minister Nhema will be instructed to push through the relevant legislation chop, chop. There were stupid policies and the party has no choice but to eat humble pie and admit it in a more definitive way other than a public speech they can deny latter.

After signing into law the scrapping of indigenisation and black empowerment policies, his signature themes of all his rhetorical speeches in the last 15 years, Mugabe will go raving mad when he learns that the donors and foreign investors are still not impressed! Why should they?

If Mugabe can scrap his flagship policies at the drop of a hat what is there to stop him reintroducing them again at a later date at a drop of a hat. Indeed the regime is knew to totally disregard its own laws and treaties and do as it pleases without even bothering to change them!

What Mugabe and his Zanu PF Politburo have yet to realise and admit to themselves is that they rigged the elections and thus lost legitimacy and with it legal authority and credibility. But since the ZimAsset begging bowl will remain mockingly empty, a constant reminder that the regime cannot rig economic recovery the same way it rigged the elections, the regime be forced to accept there is nothing the regime can do to restore confidence in the donors and investors community.

Only a new government elected free and fair elections will have the people’s mandate to rule and pass laws and command the confidence to uphold those laws.

But first things first, let us allow the Zanu PF Politburo to do its volte face on the indigenisation and empowerment policies just for the sadistic joy of seeing the tyrant land on his face! He wanted the Politburo there so it could be seen as a collective decision although everyone knows these were Mugabe’s own pet-policies!
