At
the time Jabulani Sibanda thought he was a hero but now he is deny having been
involved in the widespread 2008 election violence in Zimbabwe. He made a name
for himself as a ruthless thug, a thug after Mugabe’s own heart. After that any
Zanu PF politician who needed his/her political opponents roughed up and/or the
electorate whipped into line they called Jabulani Sibanda to do the dirty work
for them.
Mugabe
and Zanu PF rewarded Sibanda by showering him with praise and he was the guest
of honour hobnobbing with the who-is-who is Zimbabwe politics.
When
Mugabe announced that there was going to be an elective Zanu PF congress in December
2014 Sibanda must have been spoilt for choice as each of the Zanu PF bigwigs
would have wanted him on their side; if he could rough up the party’s opponents
he will, no doubt, rough up the bigwig’s internal opponents too. Jabulani
Sibanda being Jabulani Sibanda, the thug of thugs had a reputation to keep and
he did not disappoint.
In
the upcoming elective congress the only real big contest that mattered was for
the first VP and the two contestants were Joice Mujuru and Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Sibanda chose to back Mujuru. She went on to amass the support of 8 out of the
10 provinces and was set to win.
In
August 2014, just four months before the elective party congress, President
Mugabe entered Zanu PF’s mucky politics with a bang. From the word go it was
clear she was a woman on a mission to stop Joice Mujuru being elected VP at all
cost. She went straight for Mujuru’s jugular, accusing her of being corrupt,
lazy, plotting to kill Mugabe and dividing the party.
The
only charge that made any sense on face value was that she had divided the party
but then since this was going to be elections there was going to be winners and
losers as members supported one candidate and not the other. As for the other
charges; of course she is corrupt but so are the entire bigwig Zanu PF party
members including the Mugabe himself.
The
plot to kill Mugabe was never proven; in any case since she was set to win the
vote and thus get the party members’ mandate to be first VP and heir apparent
to Mugabe why then would she still want Mugabe murdered when she has got what
she wanted already.
It
was soon clear that there was a plot afoot to stop Mai Mujuru being elected VP
at all cost. Mnangagwa and Grace Mugabe herself had presidential ambitions, she
said as much herself, and an elected Mujuru would rule out everyone else. So
the plan was to force Mujuru out of the party and allow Mugabe to appoint
whoever he pleased to be first VP. So Grace’s name was now in the hat for first
VP and then president. It was at this point that Jabulani Sibanda came to his
own.
As a Mujuru supporter Jabulani Sibanda
pointedly refused to attend Grace Mugabe’s rallies were Mujuru’s name was
dragged in the mad and worse. But to rub hot chilli to his political insult of
not attending Grace’s rallies Jabulani dismissed the whole scheme elevating
Grace to a position where she could even be president as “bedroom coup!” Well
that was a savage blow and both Mugabe and his wife felt that one.
Jabulani
Sibanda was kicked out of the party a.s.a.p. and so were Joice Mujuru and a few
of her main supporters. By the time the party congress was held Mugabe had
changed the party’s constitution allowing him, and not party congress members,
elect to two VPs.
Mnangagwa
was named first VP but to underline that his wife Grace was still in the
running, Mugabe made is very clear that the race for his successor was still
open and being first VP counted for nothing. Of course Mugabe will never admit
it but many people believe that “bedroom coup” jibe helped him decide that
appointing Grace first VP would have been confirmed there had been a bedroom
coup!
Ever
since his booting out of Zanu PF, Jabulani Sibanda, the Zanu PF thug to be
feared like no other party thug, has been busy filing the rough edges of his
image as a thug.
"When
I was national chairman of war veterans in 2008, there was no genuine war
veteran who was involved in that violence,” Jabulani Sibanda told the Zimbabwe
Independent. “It was a Third Force.
"I don't want to talk about the Third Force, but people know what happened."
"I don't want to talk about the Third Force, but people know what happened."
When
he was pressed he did admit to playing a part in stopping regime change.
"They
had said in their parliament they are working with the MDC to achieve regime
change in Zimbabwe. That statement prompted me to discuss with war veterans how
to defend our freedom by stopping the British from achieving their agenda.”
Actually
Sibanda, the nation knows you were involved in the harassment, beating, rape
and possibly even murder of many innocent Zimbabwe back in 2008 and for many
years thereafter till you were finally and unceremoniously kicked out of Zanu
PF. Be rest assured that we will get to the bottom of what really happened here
including the vote rigging of the July 2013 elections.

My friend you are either one of those MDC supporters who will never accept that Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent ; just as for 15 years or so after independence you would not believe that Mugabe is corrupt and a murderous tyrant. Whether or believe it or not it really does not matter what matters is what is. Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent, that is a fact!
It is quite possible of course that you know Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent and it is for exactly that reason that you want him to remain the country's opposition leader because you are a Zanu PF supporter/CIO.
I Wilbert Mukori want to see the corrupt and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship dismantle and I know Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent to carry out this task. So my task is to ensure the people of Zimbabwe see Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent village idiot he is. If you think I am going to be talking by an idiot like you who does not know their right hand from the left or some Zanu PF agent pretending to care about the people then you will soon learn that there are some people who are not so easily fooled!
@ Wilbert
Our friend is either a blind MDC supporter who will never see Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent idiot he is for another 5 to 10 years. I see Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent village idiot he is and I would have failed the nation if I do not warn everyone that Tsvangirai will never deliver any meaningful change.
The alternative is that our friend is a CIO agent trying to confuse the nation by creating the impression Tsvangirai is the most competent leader in our history because as long as Tsvangirai remain in Zimbabwe opposition politics nothing will ever be accomplish. Of course I will never allow myself to be side-track by some upstart CIO sell-out!
Here the CIO will for the first time have their work cut out and I can tell you here and now I will come out on top or my name is not Wilbert Mukori!
If Mujuru is as competent as Tsvangirai would like as to believe then why is the nation in this mess; after all she was in government for 34 of the 35 years of this regime. Tsvangirai is so desperate for a political partner because he knows he has lost all political credibility he is willing to take the corrupt and incompetent Mujuru.
The rigged July 2013 elections have left Tsvangirai and his MDC friends exposed politically, they have like hermit crabs without a shell to call home, not even one that is too big or too small. If Tsvangirai does not get a political partner quick smart he knows his political career will be finished because Zanu PF and People First will feast on MDC. A hermit crab in a shell can survive a shark or sting-ray attack but not escape from the shark attack on side and sting-ray the other especial one without a shell!
If Tsvangirai is as popular and competent as you say he is then why does he need a coalition partner? He is just a hermit crab out a shell and is hoping Joice Mujuru will bolster his own standing.
The ease with which Mugabe booted her and her supporters out of Zanu PF showed just how feeble and incompetent she is; they certainly did not see it coming and have been scratching their empty heads for nearly a year now. Tsvangirai and Mujuru coalition will be a case of the blind leading the blind.
What is giving Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs sleepless nights is the worsening economic situa-tion. The regime is now thinking the unthinkable - firing the hundreds of thousands of party faithful in the parastatals, councils and even in the civil service. Not that this will be enough to end the economic meltdown, no chance.
The economic meltdown will continue to get worse as long as Zanu PF remains in power.
Like it or not Zanu PF will be forced to accept meaningful democratic reforms and at last the re-forms Tsvangirai failed to implement will ALL be implemented!
Once the reforms are implemented the democratic system will clear Zimbabwe's mudded waters. We will have competent men and women competing for vote; corrupt and incompetent people like Tsvangirai will have no chance then. No wonder Tsvangirai is keen to implement his watered down reforms and this keep the mudded waters, clear the water and he is finished!
I am determined to have all the GPA reforms implemented and clear the waters! Zimbabwe will have free, fair and credible elections!
@ Rakanga
What we must be careful now is to ensure we do not destroy Zanu PF only to recreate it using the same thugs and give it a new name. In his desperate effort to get back into power Morgan Tsvangirai is already wooing people like Sibanda, Mliswa, Mujuru, etc.! Mugabe did not mind that Sibanda is a ruthless thug as long as his thuggery kept him in power and now Tsvangirai is doing the same!
@ Patrick
The only way we are going to send a clear message to all the thugs and tyrants out there that they will never get away with thuggery and murder is by thoroughly investigating this Third Force and making sure all those involved are punished. If we had investigated the Gukurahundi murders, for example, then we would have been spared the nightmare of 2008 wanton violence. VP Mnangagwa clearly has a lot to explain to the nation since he was involved in the Gukurahundi and the 2008 Third Force. Someone with so much to answer for is certainly not fit to be president!
Wadyajena on Wednesday last week castigated Moyo on Twitter, describing him as a "spiteful political crook, charlatan and low-life devil incarnate".
"Your habit of twisting words to suit certain agendas is childish and obviously meant to sow seeds of dissent among Zimbabwean youths," he blasted
Now that Mugabe lit the Zanu PF self-distract fuse by firing Mai Mujuru and others last year on this false and nonsensical charge of dividing the party there is no stopping the process now until the party implodes!
Mugabe has managed to enjoy his long cherished wish of staying in power at all cost by cheating, bribing and even murdering his political opponents but he has since met his match in the economy. After decades of mismanagement and corruption these economic realities have finally come home to roost. Mugabe thought he would rig economic recovery but has since failed because he could not bribe, cheat or murder economic meltdown.
Zimbabwe's economic situation with its 90% plus unemployment rate, 16% or 2 million already living in abject poverty, water and electricity power cuts, etc. is socially and politically unsustainable. Like it or not there is going to be regime change because as long as Zanu PF remain in power the economic meltdown will continue to get us pushing the nation into a situation where something will be forced to happen!
@ Patrick
We have been brainwashed into believing that we, the people, are as helpless as a child and therefore need a leader to hold our hand and tell us what to do. Tyrants like Mugabe have ruled the nation with an iron fist allowing us no meaningful say and we have accepted the status quo without protest. When it finally dawned on the nation that Mugabe was a corrupt and murderous tyrant the people rejected him only to embrace Tsvangirai with the same blind and helpless loyalty to the leader.
We now have a chance to reassert our own position as mature adults capable of thinking for ourselves; we need to do this because how else can we hope to hold those in leadership role to account if are as helpless as children.
Besides, in the present political system of political repression, no free media, no freedom of expression, etc. it will be very difficult for competent leaders to emerge. Hence the leaders we have at present are likely to be the corrupt and incompetent village idiots who are only interested in getting on the gravy train and take their turn at looting!
We do not need any formal political party structures to push for the implementation of the democratic reforms. Of course failed leaders like Tsvangirai would want to give the impression that absolutely nothing can ever be achieved without them leading. He is conveniently forgetting that it was tyrants like Mugabe who got us into this mess and idiots like him who failed to get us out of the mess when he had the chance to do so.
We should concentrate on understanding the reforms and putting pressure on Mugabe to accept the reforms and stop wasting time looking for leaders who are not there and we do not need!
As a nation we have failed to produce strong and robust democratic institution because we have been childlike and naive in thinking that the leader will always act in the best interest of the common person and therefore there is no need for democratic accountability. Even when there is evidence that the leader have been acting in self interest to the detriment of the common cause we have been very slow to react and when we act failed to take decisive action.
Of course if you have a weak institution and you have evil and selfish leader like Mugabe into power it is near impossible to flush them out again. He appointed people like Mujuru and Muzenda knowing that they will support whatever he wanted and thus create a political system even more focused at serving him that the common good.
I agree that many people will still want Zanu PF to remain in power even thou they too are now forced to live in abject poverty for the simple reason that they fail to see any other party delivering the nation from this nightmare. The answer is for people to start articulating in a more consistent way that there is a better future for us all after Zanu PF because there is.
I believe that if we get the reforms implemented fully the new democratic system will allow competition to thrive and there is nothing like competition to bring the best out of people. With the quality leaders will come renewed hope in a better future.
So out first task is to get all the democratic reforms agreed in the GPA implemented fully and the rest will follow!
@ Tanonoka
I am surprised that Norway should want to be involved in keeping a tyrannical regime in power. Mugabe rigged the last elections and everyone knows that and therefore to then give Mugabe another life-line to extend his tyrannical rule is something one would expect from the Chinese or Russian or Israelis through NIKUV but not the Norwegians!
