Throughout
the GNU the country had one chance after another to do something to end the
Mugabe dictatorship but chance after chance was wasted. Instead of sobering up
to the reality that the nation was heading for trouble with time running out
and nothing of substance achieved the nation did the exact opposite, people
became hysterical with euphoria and excitement because they saw success and not
the impending failure.
Tsvangirai
and his MDC friends praised the new constitution to the high heaven confident
it would deliver free, fair and credible elections and argued the people to
approve it in the March 2013 referendum. The people were so cock sure they
voted yes without even reading the document. On 31 July 2013 the nation was
shocked as the truth of the blatant vote rigging by Zanu PF finally sunk in; of
course the new constitution was too weak and feeble to have delivered free and
fair elections.
The
last two years since the rigged elections should have been used to reflect what
went wrong during the GNU – mass hysteria without care study of the facts -,
learn from that to ensure the nation does not make the same mistakes ever
again. Sadly the mass hysteria is back again with Tsvangirai doing what he does
best leading from the front!
"But
today, we are heartened that there are more of us with the same vision,
including others who were formerly with Zanu-PF,” said Tsvangirai, referring to
Mai Mujuru and her People First. “Everyone has their Damascene moment and they
must be encouraged. They deserve our support for their new sense of patriotism
and the realisation that together, we are bigger, better and more
formidable."
Mai
Mujuru and her fellow People First friends were kicked out of Zanu PF kicking
and screaming because as the national cake continued shrinking it was clear
there would not be enough for everyone, it was a simple case of kicking out the
other fellows or they will kick you out. In the end Mai Mujuru’s faction was outwitted
and kicked out.
Mai
Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and all the other former Zanu PF leaders
are corrupt and they are fighting to get back into power so they can take up
their corrupt activities from where they left off last year when they were
booted out of government. Mai Mujuru is on record denying there was no
corruption even in the face of all the evidence of absurd salaries and
allowance of $ 500 000 per month paid to Premier Medical Aid Society CEO
Cuthbert Dube. She maintained the stories were lies by “those bend on regime
change”.
Zanu
PF has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections for 35 years and it is
inconceivable that in her senior position in the party she was not aware of all
the blatant denial of the people’s freedoms and human rights. She was aware of
these treasonous activities but never raised a finger to stop them because she
too reaped the benefits. The dictatorship secured her position in power and
unfettered access to looting and plundering the nation’s riches – until last
year when she was kicked out of Zanu PF because there is no longer enough loot
for everyone.
The
same economic hardships that have led to the shrinkage of the national cake and
the dog-eat-dog fighting within Zanu PF are been felt by the ordinary people
and they are desperate to see an end to the Zanu PF dictatorship. Mai Mujuru
and her friends purged from Zanu PF are smart enough to know they can tap into
this public desire for change by promising that democratic change. They are
smart enough to know the Zimbabwe public are so desperate for change they will
accept their promise with the same blind euphoria as shown again and again in
the past.
Tsvangirai,
for selfish reasons, is not helping the situation here by whipping up the
public into another stampede and acceptance of Mujuru and her People First as
the definitive last step in our 35 year journey to the free, just and
democratic Zimbabwe. Tsvangirai lost political credibility after the rigged
July 2013 elections he is desperate to revive his own sinking political fortune
and is hoping that by teaming up with Mai Mujuru will help him do that.
Mai
Mujuru’s manifesto promise to end corruption and bring democratic change in
Zimbabwe is just a political lure to gain public support to be elected back
into power. She made the same promise before independence only to abandon her
promise and the people and for 34 years she has shown her true colours as just
another corrupt, incompetent and ruthless thug. If the nation is naïve and
gullible enough to elect her back into office then she will once again forget
her promise of freedom, justice and democracy and revert back to her corrupt
and repressive ways.
For
34 years Mai Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and all the other former Zanu
PF thugs have shown that they will betray the nation for selfish political and
material gain. Elect them back into power and they will betray the nation once
again. Tsvangirai is seeing them as having changed, having had their “Damascene
moment”, he is desperate for allies and is seeing what is not there.
