Mai Mujuru launched her People First
manifesto and The Sunday Mail has come out with all guns glazing to shoot her
down.
“The document waxes lyrical about Dr Mujuru's
commitment to constitutionalism, transparency and development:” fired The
Sunday Mail is a no-hold barred attack.
"We are national democrats, guided by the values of the liberation struggle,” it continued quoting from the manifesto, “of self-determination, self-dignity, self-pride, expressed through the adoption of market-driven policies under a constitutional democracy, with the State acting as a facilitator and regulator to allow for a level playing field and provide equal opportunities for all."
The paper continued to give details of what it considered “The reality”.
“In February 2014, while acting as President, Dr Mujuru shocked the nation when she openly castigated the media for exposing corruption in Government.
Addressing the Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial women's conference in Chinhoyi, she startlingly sought to protect corrupt public officials saying exposing them was retrogressive.” The paper attacked video recording of the shocking denial.
The paper went on to give one story after another proving that Dr Mujuru is corrupt and incompetent and not the principled democrat she now pretends to be. After 34 years in power with nothing to show for it other than economic ruins and a history of brutal political oppression and rigged elections, Mai Mujuru was not going to fool anyone other than the naïve and gullible.

The day Mai Mujuru was
kicked out of Zanu PF, Morgan Tsvangirai and Tendai Biti were tripping over
each other in the mad rush to welcome her as a champion of democratic change.
They had quickly forgotten who Mai Mujuru and her People First followers were
in their blind rush to bolster their own sinking political fortunes.
You can soak a skunk in a bath of Channel 5 but one twitchy flick of that tail will force you to remember this is a skunk! The Sunday Mail expose of one story after another of Mai Mujuru’s corrupt and incompetent past was one swish of the tail after another. The Sunday Mail was not trying to give the impression that Mugabe and the remaining Zanu PF are squeaky clean; this was just Zanu PF reclaiming one of their own!

If the nation fails to get any meaningful
reforms implemented before the next elections – given the confusion in the
opposition and in the electorate, this is now a very likely reality – in Mai
Mujuru and her People First, the nation now has a sound plan B. With no reforms
Mugabe was going to once again rig the elections, brushing aside the sleepy and
incompetent Morgan Tsvangirai but not so with Mai Mujuru.
Mai Mujuru will still have a number of
supporters embedded in Zanu PF and they will tell how the vote was rigged just
as Margaret Dongo sympathisers told her how Zanu PF had rigged the 1995 Harare
South elections.
Of course Mugabe and
Zanu PF are ruthless thugs but in Mai Mujuru and her People First the tyrant
will have thugs too to deal with. Mujuru and her supporters are not as ruthless
as Mugabe and his thugs but what of it. Her thugs do not need to come up with
any vote rigging schemes, they only need to expose one or two incidences of
vote rigging and Mugabe and Zanu PF will be in serious trouble.
For the last 35 years
Mugabe has managed to outwit, cheat, bribe and even murder his political
challengers and critics to stay in power. But ever since the rigged July 2013
elections his hold on power has grown increasing shaky. He is been squeezed on
the economic front by the worsening economic situation and on the political
front by the Mujuru faction – he cannot afford to hold free and fair elections
but now with the Mujuru faction in the fray he cannot afford to rig elections
either! The irony is the economic meltdown and the People First are both
problems of his own making; the former is the result of decades of sweeping
corruption and mismanagement under the carpet and it was his rigging of the
party’s elections that created the later.
