"We assault opposition, we were blind, under fog of war," confessed Geza. Confusing insatiable greed for war! W Mukori

In a move that has raised eyebrows, expelled Zanu-PF Central Committee member Blessed Geza has publicly issued a grovelling apology to opposition members for his involvement in brutal operations that targeted opposition supporters since the turn of the millennium. This apology comes in the wake of his expulsion from the ruling party and ahead of the planned 31 March 2025 protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government.

Geza, who was part of the notorious group of Zanu-PF militants responsible for widespread human rights violations against opposition supporters, expressed deep regret for the role he played in the torture, maiming, abduction, and killings that occurred in the aftermath of the Movement for Democratic Change's (MDC) formation in 1999. These violations peaked in 2008, when the country witnessed some of the most brutal assaults by Zanu-PF militia, war veterans, and youth groups on MDC supporters during the election period.

In a statement that some may view with skepticism, Geza, a former war veteran, has now sought forgiveness for his past actions. He admitted to being complicit in these violent acts, carried out in collaboration with fellow comrades, and acknowledged the grave harm caused to Zimbabweans who had dared to oppose the government.

"We are sorry as war veterans. We have let you down. We were being used to assault members of the opposition because we were blinded," Geza said, reflecting on the atrocities committed under the guise of protecting the party. He went on to attribute his actions to "the fog of war," adding that the ongoing human rights violations, widespread corruption, and economic mismanagement had led the younger generation to view war veterans with contempt.

The apology has been framed by many as a self-serving gesture, designed to win favor with opposition members as the country gears up for the planned protest against Mnangagwa's regime in 2025. Geza, acknowledging that the younger generation has lost faith in the older generation of liberation war heroes, expressed disappointment at the current state of affairs in Zimbabwe.

"We are now a laughing stock. Young people in this country are telling us as war veterans to return the country into the hands of former colonists. This is being caused by these criminals that we are not reprimanding," he added, seemingly trying to distance himself from the ongoing challenges faced by Zimbabwe under Zanu-PF rule.

Geza's apology is likely to be met with mixed reactions. For some, it will be seen as a long-overdue act of contrition, while others will view it as a tactical maneuver designed to gain sympathy and possibly curry favor with opposition leaders ahead of the 2025 protest.

It has become somewhat of a recurring pattern for former Zanu-PF members to express remorse to the opposition after falling out of favor with the ruling party. The sincerity of these apologies remains a topic of debate, as many question the motivations behind such public statements.

As the nation inches closer to the planned protests and as tensions within Zanu-PF continue to mount, Geza's apology may serve as just one of many shifting allegiances in Zimbabwe's complex political landscape.”

The 2017 military coup was necessary “to save the nation from the worsening economic situation and suffering of the masses by removing the criminals surrounding President Mugabe who were causing the economic chaos”, Sobusiso Moyo, the spokesperson of the coup explained to the world in the small hours of 15 November 2017. We now know that corruption and mismanagement, the cancers that had destroyed the Zimbabwe economy, got even worse in the post coup period. Why?

Simple! The coup was about power and not removing criminals. The Zanu PF thugs were fighting each other over which faction would rule. Calling their rivals “criminals” was a smoke-screen to justify the treasonous act of the coup!

The economic meltdown continued post the coup because as much as they were criminals in the G40 factions there were just as many criminals in the Lacoste faction.

The other day Blessed Geza named 35 corrupt Zanu PF leaders, including Mnangagwa himself, who will be targeted in this uprising. If this was about naming criminals then Chiwenga, Geza and many others should be on the list. No doubt Geza thinks that admitting his murderous past will make him and his fellow Chiwenga faction members squeaky clean to the people of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabweans are a an ignorant, naive and gullible lot many believe the 31 March uprising is about stopping he ED2030 bandwagon and riding the nation of the scourge of corrupt and oppression. Geza was a hero, squeaky clean, all past transgressions were forgiven there and then the day he and his war veteran friends denounced Mnangagwa.

The tragedy is the uprising, even if it was to succeed, would deliver no meaningful political and economic changes, because the post uprising regime will be composed of the same corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs  who have ruled the country with an iron fist all these last 45 years. The uprising is about power and not changing the failed de facto Zanu PF dictatorship. By participating the people will give the Chiwenga faction legitimacy!

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dismissed calls for his resignation by a faction of war veterans as "treasonous," vowing to crush planned protests on March 31.

Speaking at a Zanu PF central committee meeting in Harare on Thursday, Mnangagwa also took aim at what he called "chameleon-like characters" within the ruling party, in a rare public acknowledgment of factional divisions.

"It is most unfortunate that a retrogressive trend has emerged, with some members of our party showing their chameleon-like characters as willing accessories to our detractors," Mnangagwa said.

"Their actions are an affront to the party's principles and grossly taint our country's image as well as the gains of our liberation struggle. These rogue opportunists will soon meet their fate."
War Veterans Demand Mnangagwa's Ouster

A fraction of independence war veterans has emerged as one of the strongest voices of opposition to Mnangagwa's eight-year rule, accusing the 82-year-old leader of leadership failures and surrounding himself with "criminals" who benefit from corrupt state contracts.

Eight years ago the same individuals Mnangagwa is now denouncing as “treasonous chameleon-like characters” stage the military coup that ended Mugabe’s tyrannical rule and paved the way for him to finally get to be top-dog. Mugabe had managed to stay in power for 37 years because he rigged the party and national elections. As soon as he got into power Mnangagwa too rigged the party and national so we are back to square one.

If the 2017 military coup was the only way to remove Mugabe from office, it is self evident we will need street protest and/or another coup to remove Mnangagwa. It is laughable Mnangagwa welcomed the 2017 military coup and is no dismiss the same as treason.

What goes round comes round. Mnangagwa will be booted out of office one way or the other!

The 2017 coup appealed to the primeval mighty is right animal instinct in all of us, the more so since the coup was removing Mugabe and we had failed to do it using democracy. What matters here, however, is the reality that the coup did remove Mugabe but only to replace him with Mnangagwa. The economic meltdown and political oppression, which were the primary reason the nation was fighting to end Mugabe's rule, did not change. Indeed, the reality on the ground shows things got worse.

The coup delivered regime change but not the one we wanted. We want to end the dictatorship and not just swap one dictator for another.

The Geza 31 March uprising is offering more of the mighty is right action and, in the end, will swap Mnangagwa for Chiwenga. How anyone can see this as progress beggars belief. Of course, it is a repeat of the 2017 coup!

For those who have been praising Mnangagwa for "brick house, borehole and bicycle gift to all the war veterans." Remember that these are basic necessities many of the war veterans are eternally grateful for because they did not have the financial means to afford them these last 45 years. These war veterans are in fact part of the 50% of our people living in abject poverty. The povo living in abject poverty will never have a brick house, a borehole and a bicycle. Never!

Mnangagwa and his fellow ruling elite are the owners of most of the former white owned farms and many of them have more than one farm. Mnangagwa has given them title deeds to the farms.

The war veterans who have received the brick house and borehole do not have title deeds to the land and so if they ever displace Zanu PF, by supporting Geza uprising for example, they will be booted out of the house! As for the rural poverty Zanu PF will never give you title deeds to even 10 sq m of land so you can build a decent house for yourself!

It suits Zanu PF to keep war veterans poor and rural folk people even poorer and powerless for the party's selfish political reasons! We should be fighting to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and not merely swapping one dictator for another!

@ Wanguda

If Chiwenga gets in then he will be in power with the people’s help the he will rule until 2033, at least, because he will rig 2028. He will use the public support as proof he has the nation’s support and legitimacy. Mnangagwa used the same trick in 2017!

If the 31 March uprising fail, Mnangagwa will not assume that he has the public support because he knows that he never did hence the reason why he has been rigging the elections. He can bribe the MPs to amend the constitution extend his rule to 2030 but he still has to get the nation to approve the amendment in a referendum. Why don’t you organise to make sure that he does not win the referendum? If he tries to rig, that he does not get away with it!

Mnangagwa would have never rigged 2023 elections and go away with it if millions of Zimbabweans had not been conned to participate in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. Chamisa lied to them that CCC would win big because he had plugged all the vote rigging loop holes. The people were foolish enough to believe the idiotic lie. And it was not the first time Zimbabweans had been conned either!

You problem is not so much that Mnangagwa will stay in power until 2030 but rather that you lack imagination and common sense. So you are gifting the Zanu PF dictatorship another eight years in power just because you do not have the common sense to stop participating in flawed elections to give the regime legitimacy!

@ Baba T J

Exactly! There are other ways of stopping Mnangagwa staying in power beyond 2028 other than doing so at the cost of replacing him with another dictator! The choice is not either Mnangagwa or Chiwenga; the choice is dictatorship of democracy!

You are right, Zanu PF lost the 2008 elections and Mnangagwa stepped in to cheat and use wanton violence in the run off. One of the reasons why Mnangagwa will not want to give up power is that he fears being held to account for what really happened in 2008, etc.

"We cannot get a democratic Zimbabwe from an undemocratic political processes," said Morgan Tsvangirai. Alas! He was paying lip service to democratic reforms. MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 25 years, including the 5 years in the GNU.

Meanwhile we now have Blessed Geza calling for the removal of this Mnangagwa dictatorship using the tried and tested Zanu PF culture of violence: threats, firebombing cars and house and, no doubt, there is a lot worse to come!

Lest people forget, Zanu PF would not still be in power today if MDC/CCC leaders were not Zanu PF team B in all but name, playing for team A to win and have legitimacy!

Zanu PF has rigged elections for 45 years and counting, why have you failed to come up with a solution to stop the rigging. Surely that is more important than silencing me.

It is not so much that I have repeated myself on reforms, rigged elections, etc. You would not have minded. You cannot bear to hear that MDC/CCC leaders sold out. Well they sold out and I am going to repeat that because it is true! And I will never ever allow myself to be silence by a village idiot like you. Never ever!

The video also turned its focus on Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a powerful ZANU-PF ally and influential businessman in Zimbabwe. Geza accused Tagwirei of working to undermine the country's land reform efforts. Geza argued that Tagwirei and President Mnangagwa have been collaborating to reverse land reforms by allegedly allowing the confiscation of farms from struggling farmers, using banks linked to Tagwirei as a means to seize land.

"Why should Tagwirei’s banks be the only ones authorized to offer loans to farmers, especially when it means they could lose their land in the process?" Geza asked. "This is part of a larger scheme to rob the people of their hard-earned land and reverse the gains of our land reform."

In response, Tagwirei has strongly refuted the accusations. He clarified that his companies, particularly in the banking sector, were not involved in seizing land and emphasized that the introduction of bankable title deeds was intended to help farmers access financial services without forfeiting ownership of their land. He reassured the public that land in Zimbabwe remains state-owned, and the involvement of banks is merely a means of securing financing for agricultural development, not a pathway to expropriation.

How many of the millions of ordinary Zimbabweans have title deeds to even 10 square metres of land on which the mud huts stand? Even the war veterans who had the match box brick houses plus bore-hole and bicycle - why 90% of the war veterans are so poor they could not afford to buy these things these last 45 years speaks volumes of our failed state - do not have title deeds. They know that they will be booted out of the match-box if they should ever be suspected of supporting the opposition, for example.

Blessed Geza, being a senior Zanu PF thug until now, had a farm. His house was firebombed and, no doubt, the regime is coming back to take-away the farm. He may have received title deeds but these count for nothing in a lawless state like Zimbabwe!

Asa much as the people agreed with Geza that this ED2030 was “bulls***t”. People could see the nation was sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss and it was therefore nonsensical that Mnangagwa should pretend he had to stay in office beyond the two term limit to deliver an imaginary vision 2030.

Still, the people did not support Geza’s 31 March uprising because they realised replacing Mnangagwa with Chiwenga, as Geza proposed to do, would solve nothing. In 2017 the people supported the coup and all that happened was Mugabe was replace with Mnangagwa. The people saw this uprising as a repeat of 2017 and therefore not worth supporting!

The 2017 coup and this uprising is presenting the people with the false choice of dictator A or B. The real choice before this nation is democracy or dictatorship. The people of Zimbabwe are beginning to think for themselves and the ability to distinguish a false choice from a real choice is a measure of one’s ability to think.

Those politicians who have made a career of conning people, are worried sick. A thinking electorate will not believe idiotic lies like “I have plugged all the vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” Chamisa will be returning from his French-leave to a new Zimbabwe, a thinking Zimbabwe!

@ Might Jamie TV

Your analysis is one of the few that has hit the nail on the head again and again. You were particularly spot on in talking about how Mnangagwa has the instinct of a crocodile keen to lure in its victim.

One of the reasons why the Geza uprising failed is that many people saw it as the repeat of the 2017 coup that accomplished nothing other than swapping one dictator for another. Geza & Co. want Mnangagwa replace with Chiwenga.

Zimbabweans saw the swapping of one dictator for another as a false choice. The real choice is a democracy or dictatorship. I believe this is a very significant awaken by Zimbabweans, it shows they can think for themselves and therefore are not going to be so easily conned!

The Geza 31 March 2025 uprising has a flopped and Geza has called it off. Many people have repeatedly questioned the end and purpose of the uprising if all Geza & Co. wanted to do was to replace Mnangagwa with Chiwenga - a repeat of the 2017 military coup. One only hopes that this is a belated Zimbabwean renaissance, the awakening from the ignorant, naive and gullible lot to an electorate who can think for themselves.

Nonsense! MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU. We cannot say ending the Zanu PF dictatorship is near impossible when we had a golden opportunity to do so and we not only wasted it and those who sold out are still in denial they sold out!

@ Chamisa

This is sickening! Here is some one who conned the people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. “I have plugged all the vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” he insisted. He knew this was a blatant lie and he even had the cheeky of evoking the name of God!

It is interesting to note that other than BBC and one or two others, no one has ever taken Chamisa to task for his lying. As for his followers, it is clear they are brain dead.

No wonder we are a failed state, democracy demands an educated electorate and not one that is brain dead!

When you listen to opposition leaders like Eddie Cross you understand why MDC/CCC leaders failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 25 years, including the 2008 to 2013 GNU when they had the best chance ever to do so. MDC/CCC are Zanu PF team B in all but name; playing for team A to win and to get legitimacy.

It is a great tragedy that millions of Zimbabwe have yet to wake up to the reality that the opposition leaders will never ever implement any democratic reforms to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. Never ever!

Day in day out are the never ending stories of political infighting in Zanu PF, in the opposition and inter party fighting.

We have other important national problems to deal with such as the economic meltdown, corruption, etc. but these have all been pushed aside these last 45 years as the political challenges imposed on the nation by the dictatorship have taken centre stage. Zimbabwe has blundered from one political crisis to the next.

We need to focus on the governance problem and solve it or we will never ever get out of this mess!

@ Yo Barbar shop

Millions have left the country for various reasons, they are still Zimbabweans and, per se, entitled to all their freedoms and rights including holding those in public office to account. Holding leaders to account is not an exclusive preserve of only Zimbabweans who are in Zimbabwe.

You just cannot bear to see Chamisa held to account and so you are coming up with all manner of feeble excuses to silence me. I will hold him to account and will not be silenced by a nincompoop who thinks Chamisa a demigod!

This is the epitome of the danger that arises from waging a armed struggle. What if it throws up leaders who believe they have the divine right to govern by virtue they liberated the nation. Zimbabwe is stuck with yesterday’s liberators who have become today’s oppressors!

Here is a buffoon who does not care about one man one vote and never did! What a nightmare!

The claim that the Army took over Zanu PF and is therefore a key player in Zimbabwe politics is unfounded. It was Mugabe and Mnangagwa who corrupted the Army, Police, CIO, Prison Service and war veterans turning them into party departments in all but name. Army commanders, etc. have done Zanu PF's dirty bidding, they are the ones wearing Zanu PF straight jackets!

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one token reform, including reforms to sever the Zanu PF ties to Army, Police, etc. because the opposition leaders are corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless. The Army did nothing to stop Tsvangirai and company implementing the reforms. NOTHING!

Zimbabwe Light said...

The people were protesting against the rigged election process because it was clear that Zanu PF had once again rigged the elections. Chamisa had conned the people to participate claiming MDC A “had stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.”

He does not want to own up that he lied; there were no stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. He is disowning the protestors because they protested the rigged results before the official announcement was 'stupid and nonstrategic'. It is not as he who was patient, clever and strategic was rewarded with a contrary official result!

The people of Zimbabwe themselves are to blame for being so shallow, thick and slow, they have conned into believing anything even an idiotic lie. Of course, Chamisa lied about MDC A winning RIGGED elections. After decades of rigged elections one would expect the people have learned by now not to be so gullible!

Zimbabwe Light said...

@ Zviko

Did the 2 million voted for Chamisa in 2023 because they did not have any other choice or was it because they believe Chamisa was the answer? If the people believed Chamisa’s idiotic lies in 2023, what makes you believe they would not do so again?

I am holding Chamisa to account for something much worse that “taking away a girlfriend”. I am holding him to account for conning millions to participate in a flawed election to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the suffering of millions of ordinary Zimbabweans. All water off a duck’s back to a nincompoop like you!

The concept of holding leaders to democratic account is totally alien especial to the simpleton who consider leaders to be demigods who must worshiped. Chamisa is a mere mortal and one with a well documented record as corrupt and incompetent!

45 years after independence and in this day and age, we still have some people who consider mere mortals demigods and hold a leader to account and they start foaming and frothing! No wonder we are a failed state; we really have some of the most idiotic individuals on earth.

“We have reached the limits of diplomacy to solve the impasse in Zimbabwe politics.
SADC and AU both said the elections were flawed.
Nothing was done.
Political space in Zim is basically closed off.

Is there anything else democratically that hasn't been tried yet in Zim that we can try now?

To my knowledge, nothing

Which means we need to try something else.

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result would mean we are indeed mad.

I am open to anything that will
Rid us of Zanupf.

I just don’t see them packing up and leaving without a fight.”

We have not tried implementing the democratic reforms. MDC/CCC have been on the political stage 25 years and counting and they have failed to implement even one token reform. Not one!

You are right, both SADC and AU condemned the 2023 Zimbabwe elections as flawed and illegal. Yes neither body denied Zanu PF political legitimacy as they both did in 2008. Do you know why?

Or to put it differently; if you were SADC and/or AU would you have denied Zanu PF political legitimacy?

Zimbabwe Light said...

@ Brett

“How do we implement democratic reforms when a military regime controls the country?

MDC and CCC as incompetent as they were/are, even if they tried to implement reforms- which they didn’t- but even if they tried, the regime wouldn't allow them.
Even now there are certain constitutional rights citizens have that the regime just outright ignores anyway.

There is no space for any reform agenda within a regime.”

There is no way we are going to get Zanu PF to implement even one token reform now given the party has the majority and the utter chaos in the opposition camp.

However, now that both SADC and AU have condemned Zimbabwe’s 2023 election process as flawed and illegal the need for implementing reforms before the next elections is undeniable. The challenge is to make sure the corrupt and incompetent opposition does not con the people to participate in the flawed elections as they have done countless times in the past.

This is not an impossible task and the starting point is highlighting how many times leaders like Chamisa have lied about CCC winning RIGGED elections because he “pugged all the vote rigging loop holes. #Godisinit!” The very fact that he has got away with such blatant lies speaks volumes about the sheer incompetence of our private media (there is no doubt they have played a major role in the coverup) and of the opposition challengers.

Ing we can stop the brain-dead Chamisa chete chete brigade participating in the flawed 2028 elections in their millions, I can assure you that SADC and the AU will deny Zanu PF political legitimacy forcing the regime to accept another GNU. Getting the new GNU to implement reform will not be hard!

Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies are buffoons; corrupt, incompetent and intellectually challenged village idiots. They have managed to stay in power all these last 45 years not because they are clever but rather because they had the great fortune of having brain-dead political opponents like Tsvangirai, Chamisa, etc.
