Mugabe turns to gay-bashing to draw attention away from grinding poverty!

As the election campaign is hotting up, Mugabe is once again hunting for his traditional soft targets to use as a diversion from the burning national issues and as cover for his dirty tactics to “win” the elections. He has once again returned to bashing gays and lesbians.

“I should like to shut them-up in some room and see if they get pregnant; if they don’t then its jail because they have claimed they can have children. So, to that kind of rot, we say no, no, no, no!”

There is something sickening about a regime that has presided over wholesale lawlessness in which hundreds of thousands of its people were beaten and or raped and over 500 murdered (over 30 000 murdered in its 33 years in power) in three months in 2008 alone and yet none of those responsible have ever been arrested. And yet the same regime has harassed and threatened to arrest adults for what they have done in the privacy of their own home. What a sanctimonious hypocrite!

Of course the regime is using gay-bashing to draw public attention away from it’s the daily economic hardships and despair caused by 33 years of gross mismanagement, corruption and looting. It is also planning another blitzkrieg supposedly aimed at gays and lesbians but in reality aimed at all its political opponents and critics. In 2008 it was white farmers were the cover and yet 99.9% of the victims of the political intimidation, beatings, rapes and murders were not white farmers but ordinary black Zimbabweans for daring to vote for regime change!

To this day the regime still maintains the West is accusing it of denying the people their democratic right to free and fair elections and the right to life is a cover, they real objection is that the regime seizing white owned farms. Blacks who are fighting to end the regime’s political repression and the economic waste through corruption and mismanagement the regime dismiss them as puppet of the West.

Mr Mugabe, we know what you are up to and this time, be rest assured, you are NOT getting away with it!

None of the SADC countries would want to impose and sanctions on Zimbabwe on their own but only as part of international sanctions. If the international community refuse to accept Mugabe's election victory because the elections were not free and fair and SADC join in; that will certainly put Mugabe and his Junta under real pressure to accept real democratic change!

@ Richard

Yes Zimbabwe will still be in SADC geographically even if Mugabe takes the country out of the regional grouping. Mugabe will still be in power, that is all Mugabe cares about.

SADC failed to put their foot down and get the democratic reforms implemented otherwise all this would have been avoided. The main culprits in failing to implement the reforms are Zimbabwe's breathtakingly incompetent MDC led by the breathtakingly incompetent Morgan Tsvangirai!

Zimbabweans are regretting they voted for him in droves in 2008. The nation was desperate for change and desperate people do desperate things!

"Look stupid when they find they have been led up the Garden Path by those everyone else already knew were stringing them along." (Commenting on SADC’s failure to get Zimbabwe to implement democratic reforms and thus hold free and fair democratic elections.) Yaup anyone is bound to look sheepish after that one, guaranteed! That is exactly how President Zuma is looking right now, very sheepish!

@ Robobo

Whilst I agree with everything else you have said I do not agree that many people see MDC, at least with it present leadership, as the answer. Those of you shouting Chinja Maitiro, must change.

You need to accept that Tsvangirai and his kitchen cabinet have been a complete disaster; their failure to implement not even one democratic reform has proven their breath-taking incompetence beyond all reasonable doubt.

So for MDC supporters to ignore this graphic reality and keep harping about MDC as if an MDC government would be the panacea to all the nation’s problems is nonsense. They are only showing the same blind euphoria of 1980 that has landed us into this mess.

Clearly these MDC supporters have learnt nothing and it is folly to follow their example!

Not all voters would want to walk more than 5 kilometres and stand in the queue for more than a couple of hours to elect a party, they already know, is incompetent. So incompetent, it will achieve very little if anything at all. That is all the voters can realistic expect out of Mugabe vs Tsvangirai and Zanu PF vs MDC election contest.

To motivate all the voters to walk 25 kms and queue for days if need be; this election must therefore be about something else extra special. And it is!

This election must be about Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs vs the good people of Zimbabwe. After 33 years of corruption and looting and brutal repression and being treated as is they are stupid; will the people finally tell these tyrants that they are not stupid, now; for the first time in 33 years, they have the free vote?

President Zuma has failed to take decisive action to ensure Zimbabwe implemented the democratic reforms necessary for free and fair elections because he was ill-advised by none other than Lindiwe Zulu. If anything, Mugabe should be grateful to her.

The parallel has happened to Tsvangirai, his incompetence of the last five years has given Mugabe and the Zanu PF dictatorship "legitimacy" as CNN's Becky Anderson rightly put it. Have Mugabe ever shown his gratitude to Tsvangiria? Of course not, the tyrant has kicked him in the teeth at every opportunity.

Of Course the SA government official is right to say “it was Sadc and South Africa who made sure that he is able to enjoy the status of being acknowledged around the world as the president of Zimbabwe.”

What the SA government has failed to realize, just as Tsvangirai had failed to, is there is no pleasing tyrants like Mugabe. The more one backs over backwards to appease
him, he will take all you have done for granted, and demand you do even more. In the end, after all you did, the tyrant will always thank you with a boot in the backside guaranteed.

If Lindiwe Zulu had given President Zuma sound advice then SA would have put its foot down with Mugabe from the word go. And so for giving wrong advice, Lindiwe will never shake-off the label “an ordinary, stupid and idiotic street woman”; never ever! Mugabe called Tsvangirai a “puppet” but it was the latter's failure to implement even one democratic reform that has super-glued to his head!

@ Kuziwa

Of course Mugabe is not Zimbabwe, he is "messing people's lives" because the people are stupid enough to let him. We had a chance to stop him by implementing the reforms and not even one reform was implemented and now you complain about Mugabe "messing people's lives".

He will continue to do so as long as you let him! You and many others have your heads buried in the sand and so you miss the chance to changes and all you do is cry like helpless infants! Wake up, for Pete's sake!

Kuziwa, kuziwa and yet you know nothing! Change your name to Kusaziva that would go well with your pious and idiotic infant comments!

Not only has Tsvangirai been a failure, no one in his party seem to recognise that and that makes a bad situation even worse. Tsvangirai has already shown that his top priority is to appease Mugabe and Zanu PF. An MDC victory will result in Tsvangirai on the throne but with the Zanu PF dictatorship as the real power behind the throne.

Mugabe was right to call Tsvangirai a "puppet of the West" before 2008. Ever since, Mugabe has been the one pulling the strings and not the West.

The people are showing the same euphoria that there will be change for the better as they showed back in 1980 whereas if they opened their eyes they would see the change they are excited about is only going to be superficial! An open and honest acknowledgement of Tsvangirai as an incompetent leader he is will prove people have a grasp of the present reality and intend to address it head-on as soon as the present challenge of getting Mugabe out of the way is dealt with.

The lie that Tsvangirai is competent is not galvanizing the nation and getting out the vote. Tsvangirai’s incompetence has already allowed Mugabe to have billions of dollars from Marange diamonds, keep the partisan media, still have chaotic voters’ roll, etc. All these things will give him 20% to 30% of the votes, in terms of vote generated for him or denied his opponents; this is why Mugabe may even go on to win this election!

@ Mafirakureva

Let me tell you my friend if you pinch this election as Mugabe vs Tsvangirai then Tsvangirai is going to lose. In the March 2008, the people did not know just how incompetent Tsvangirai was but he won hands down because the people were voting for change and gave Tsvangirai the benefit of that doubt that he would deliver such change.

Today, Tsvangirai has to accept that in the last five years he has failed to implement not even one reform. MDC have just launched their manifesto and it silent about reforms as if this work is done and dusted. Even if many of the ill-informed rural voters cannot explain it in so many words, still they too know that there is something missing here.

Many Zimbabweans know MDC forgot about their promise to bring change; they are ignorant, poor, desperate for change, etc. but they are NOT stupid.

They will walk 5 km to vote for MDC on the off chance that the party will bring some change. But they will not walk 25 km for that and yet that is the level of commitment these voters need.

Being honest about Tsvangirai's incompetence and telling them he will be booted out as soon as this election is over, as soon as Mugabe is booted out, will galvanize the electorate.

This election is about change that is why it is Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs vs the good people of Zimbabwe. We needed a stalking horse and Tsvangirai fits that bill; he will and must be replaced a.s.a.p.
