Ncube Tsvangirai tweet "torched a storm" - proof we are not ready for change by P Guramatunhu

“If Morgan Tsvangirai is your hero then you don’t belong to a new transformative Zimbabwe.”

“SA-based Zimbabwean publisher Trevor Ncube torched a storm this weekend with this tweet, stirring up old loyalties, new fears and a whole hornet’s nest of 16 years of bitterly-fought Zimbabwean politics,” reported News24.

Of course, Ncube was right and the only reason why he stirred a hornet’s nest in saying it is there are many people out there who know that Tsvangirai is a corrupt and incompetent sell-out but do not have the guts to admit it. When Thomas Mapfumo said Tsvangirai was a “sell-out” on Nehanda radio an year or so ago he too had some people in a huff.

Anyone who dared criticize then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe in the early 1980s ran the risk of being lynched. It was not until the late 1990s, with the national economy in the gutter and over 20 000 political murders under his belt, that people finally accepted Mugabe for the incompetent, corrupt and murderous tyrant was/is. By the mid 1980s there was a mountain of evidence already, showing that Mugabe was a corruption and murderous tyrant; they did not need whole Himalayas Mountain range of more evidence and 20 years to convince them. before the reality of the monster Mugabe finally sunk in.

Bad habits die hard; there is overwhelming body of evidence already proving that Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent, some people are electing to ignore it.

Tsvangirai has blundered from pillar to post ever since he emerged on the country’s political stage as the leader of MDC in 1999. A former USA Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell, described Tsvangirai in a leaked cable as “a flawed and indecisive character” after meeting the man a few times. It was his failure to get even one reform implemented in five years in GNU that proved Ambassador Dell was right about Tsvangirai.

Implementing the democratic reforms was the primary task of the GNU and there was no other logical explanation why not even one reform was implemented, other than that Tsvangirai and his MDC friends are corrupt and incompetent. President Mugabe bribed them with the gravy train lifestyles plus the $4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai, in return they kick implementing the democratic reforms into the tall grass.

The democratic reforms were designed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship by end Mugabe’s dictatorial control over Police, ZEC, etc.; end the looting national resources to bankroll vote rigging schemes; etc. If MDC had implemented the reforms during the GNU then the 2013 elections would have been free, fair and credible; we would not have this corrupt Zanu PF dictatorship still lording over our lives. Zimbabwe would have been totally transformed for the better!

Implementing the democratic reform and holding of free, fair and credible elections remain the key to ending the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF rule and to transforming Zimbabwe.

There is a mountain of evidence out there to prove Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent and hence the reason he failed to implement even one reform during the GNU. He cannot be trusted to implement the reforms going forward because he still does not know what they are.

Those who continue to follow Tsvangirai and trust him to deliver democratic transformation are doing so out of stubbornness and ignorance. The same stubbornness and ignorance that stopped us seeing President Mugabe as the corrupt and murderous tyrant for 20 years, time for him to establish now this deeply entrench dictatorship.

Trevor Ncube is warning the nation of the perils of following corrupt and incompetent leaders like Tsvangirai. It is ironic that the stubborn and ignorant; who should have seen Tsvangirai for failed leader he is by now, if they did not have their heads buried in the sand; are the ones would not listen.

If the truth be told, Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because our electorate is largely stubborn and ignorant.

It will take competent – not corrupt and incompetent - leaders to implement the democratic reforms and, in turn, it will take an informed and diligent – not a stubborn and ignorant – electorate to elect competent leaders. The fact that Ncube’s twitter static a historic fact of Tsvangirai’s incompetence “torched a storm” is proof that we still have many stubborn and ignorant voters out there, is proof we are not ready for a healthy and functional democracy and economic recovery.

@ Andrew Mupfeki

Many Zimbabweans have voted for Tsvangirai, myself included, because we believed he was the best thing since sliced bread! And many Zimbabweans out there, I count myself out this time, still believe Tsvangirai is our man hence all the huuu haaaa following Ncube's tweet.

Tsvangirai has failed to deliver democratic change, that is a historic fact. We need to be honest with ourselves and ask why he has failed and what we should do next. I personally welcome Ncube's contribution and you are right to ask him what he would have done.

To dismiss Ncube's views on the grounds that he is not in Zimbabwe is to miss the point completely because no one of us has the monopoly on ideas and where we happen to be will have no bearing on the value of the ideas.

You need to keep your eyes on the ball - how to achieve democratic transformation!

Get your facts right Nhapwa, Tsvangirai and the whole MDC cabinet members withdrew to pressure Mugabe to buy Tsvangirai the $4 million Highlands mansion. Indeed if Mugabe had not bought Tsvangirai the mansion I bet you that MDC would have implemented the reforms - all of them!

As soon as Tsvangirai got the mansion MDC leaders never said another word on reforms.

"Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!" (MDC people have learnt to enjoy gravy train spoils of power without rocking the boat!) remarked one Zanu PF crony in response to growing public despondence on why MDC were doing nothing to implement the democratic reforms.

Professor Cube too his share of the spoils of power, beside the ministerial job he got a former white-owned farm! He got his bribe and he too did nothing to implement any reform!

Whilst it is universally accepted that the last elections were rigged it is a complete mystery that so many Zimbabweans still do not KNOW why the elections were rigged. We have all been calling for free, fair and credible elections for decades now since the days of Tekere and his ZUM.

We are now preparing for the next elections in 2018 and, once again, we are all talking of we want the elections to free and fair. If we have not learnt why the 2013 elections were not free and fair then how are we going to make sure the next elections are not rigged again using the same dirty tactics as in 2013?

The self-defeating stubbornness and ignorance of the Zimbabwean people is our Achilles' heel. Many of these blind MDC followers are well educated with university degrees and are well qualified professionals in their own right; the sort of people one would expect to have an open and inquiring mind and not this hermetically sealed "damba" (trifoliate orange) mentality! I blame it on the education system.

Ian Smith produced educated blacks to meet the regime's needs for educated labour but never to challenge the unjust status quo; it was a delicate balancing act but credit to him he did just that. President Mugabe has inherited the system just as he did with all the other oppressive laws and practices so for the last 36 years the country has been chaining out tens of thousands of University graduates whose academic education has been watered down to uselessness but now more than ever before conditioned to accept the status quo no questions asked.

Only 2% of the 50 000 or so graduates ever get a formal job each year, for example, and the rest just accept their fate in silence like sheep to the slaughter! It will never occur to these idiots that there is something terribly wrong here; one has to have an open mind to see that, we are talking about damba mentality here!

Tsvangirai may be a village idiot but even he was smart enough to exploit this farm of damba headed nation. These MDC supporters are angry with Trevor Ncube for telling them that Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent because even they know Ncube is right and it is their defence mechanism to kill the messenger because they cannot kill the message!

True, we all know that it was President Mugabe and his thugs who have landed us all into this hell hole. During the GNU we had the chance to get out and all Tsvangirai had to do was implement the democratic reforms. He failed to get even one reform implemented because President Mugabe bribed him to forget the reforms in return for the gravy train lifestyle plus the $ 4 million mansion.

Tsvangirai was the victim of the dictatorship just like you and me before we elected him to deliver change. When he got into power he quickly learned that he could enjoy the good life by pretending to work for change but without doing anything to bring change.

It was this failure to see when someone has change sides that has allowed President Mugabe to build his corrupt and tyrannical empire. Tsvangirai has changed, he is a corrupt and incompetent sell-out who will never bring about any democratic change. You need to wake up and smell the hummus!

Tsvangirai is “the victim”! Victim of the GNU? He got the $4 million mansion by selling-out you, me and the millions of other Zimbabweans out there and he is still a victim! How stupid is that!!!!!

Finding a cure for an ailment is a challenge and diseases of the mind are very hard to diagnose but even harder to cure! You are talking of cerebral shift from subjective thinking to objective thinking; how will this happen?

We should not forget that the same people who are blindly following Tsvangirai today were the one who have blindly followed President Mugabe for the first 20 years following our independence. They would not see Mugabe for the corrupt and murderous tyrant he is for twenty long years! When the facts of the ground were Mount Everest high they finally accepted he was a corrupt and murderous tyrant.

They rejected Mugabe and starting following Tsvangirai, a corrupt and incompetent village idiot; proof that these people were still thinking subjectively. The mental illness afflicting Zimbabweans to make then follow Mugabe was never cured because it is the same that is making them follow Tsvangirai blindly.

The cerebral shift from subjective to objective thinking has not occurred! It is now 36 years after our independence and one would want to believe a very generous period for the nation to have learnt the keys lessons in self-government. How much longer does the nation have to wait for these seismic plate tectonic shifts?

Indeed, will the shift ever happen at all because the signs are we are getting even more susceptible to empty rhetoric that even a village idiot like Tsvangirai can con us not just once but time and time again. Instead of the seismic shift being an uplifting one it is dragging us even deeper into the abyss of mindless chatter and despair.

@Doc

Forget Tsvangirai’s “women scandals” these are nothing compared to his failure to implement the democratic reforms were far worse and the consequences affect us all. So the only question that matters here is do you believe, by failing to get even one reform implemented during the GNU, that Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent?

If the answer is yes, then surely there is no hope that he will ever deliver the democratic transformation we have all been dying for.

To argue that we should not be looking for a competent leader now “at the 11 hour” is just another feeble excuse because the GNU ended in 2013 and so why did you not desert Tsvangirai soon thereafter?

Forget what Welshman Ncube did, what Trevor Ncube or Patrick said; what should be done to achieve meaningful democratic transformation? Keep your eyes on the ball!
