Tsvangirai and Mujuru coalition will change nothing - reforms to stop vote rigging we want. N Garikai

So, Morgan Tsvangirai and Joice Mujuru have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) paving the way for their two parties forming a coalition in the coming 2018 elections.

So, all the warning not to contest the next elections with no reforms in place have fallen on deaf ears because both MDC-T and NPP are determined to contest the elections regardless. Both Tsvangirai and Mujuru have been involved in politics long enough to know that President Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs have been winning all their political fights because they fight dirty. The emphasis was not so much in the two uniting to form a coalition but rather in fighting to implemented the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the vote.

In a recent Bikita West by-election Zanu PF used its usual carrot and stick tactic by giving away food aid to buy votes and threaten the people beaten and worse to frog march the villagers to the regime. The party won 78% of the vote; if the opposition had fielded one coalition candidate, he/she would have got the 22% but so what!

To understand why Tsvangirai and Mujuru would expend all their time and energy in making sure one coalition candidate gets the 22% whilst doing nothing to stop Zanu PF stealing the 78% one has to understand that the two are corrupt and incompetent, so incompetent that reason and logic mean nothing to them.

The political marriage between Tsvangirai and Mujuru is the marriage between Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee; if what each has said or done up to now has made little sense their marriage is not going to change that. If anything, there will be even more confusion. These are corrupt and incompetent individuals to expect anything coherent from them is to expect blood from a stone!

Some people tried to ignore Mai Mujuru’s 34-year history in Zanu PF in which she played her part in the corruption and tyrannical oppression. They were so desperate to have her in the opposition camp they talked themselves into believing she had her Damascene moment and was completely different person – a competent democrat. They did not have to wait long before they had a rude awakening.

Her one-year old party, ZimPF, had a poor showing in the Bikita West by-election, the party then imploded in messy breakup, her performance on BBC HardTalk was pathetic, two senior members of her new party, NPP, were involved a public fight over nothing, etc., etc. All these events reminded the whole world that Mai Mujuru is corrupt and incompetent and no amount of Chanel 5 can hide a skunk for long!

Anyone with half a brain wrote off Morgan Tsvangirai as one of the most corrupt and incompetent following MDC’s failure to implement even one reform during the GNU. Only last week our politically inapt green-horn was shooting himself in the foot by remaining everyone just how little he understands, even now with the benefit of hindsight, what the GNU was about.
“Think of it; after the GNU if Mugabe had said, now that you (we) have been working together for the last five years very well, why not go for another five years as GNU and then you (we) go for elections,” Tsvangirai told mourners at the late MDC Harare Province Senator, Ronia Bunjira.
“What a better country will this nation would have been.”

Poor Tsvangirai, he has hungering for the GNU to be extended for another five more years! He cannot get it in his empty head that the GNU was set up to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and end the vote rigging. When the GNU was formed, he has so pleased to be on the gravy train he forgot all about the democratic changes the people had risked life and limp for him to implement.

The GNU was supposed to last 18 months, in the end it lasted 60 months and still not even one reform was implemented. Extending the life of GNU was out of the question but even if that had happened the is no evidence even one reform would have seen the light of day if Tsvangirai had anything to do with it!

To this day, Tsvangirai still has no clue what the reforms are much less how they are implemented. A Tsvangirai government will mark the start of decades of mediocre regimes comparable to what happened to Zambia when the late Frederick Chiluba took over after Kenneth Kaunda.

37 Years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF misrule has driven this country right up to the very edge of the precipice, one false move and Zimbabwe will tumble over into another Somalia or worse. Another rig election may well be that false move.

To go into next year’s elections with not even one democratic reform in place is sheer folly because as certain as day follows night Zanu PF will rig the elections just as easily as the rig the 2013 elections. To go into the elections in the hope that the political marriage between Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum will produced a combined vote to beat Zanu PF’s 78% is collective insanity of the worst order!

The challenge before us is to ensure all the democratic reforms are implemented BEFORE the next elections. Zimbabwe’s next elections must have free, fair and credible elections; people must keep their eyes on that ball and nothing else!
