HZT "riled by increasing cases of election violence". - what will it take to admit we need reforms, body bags P Guramatunhu

“Heal Zimbabwe Trust (HZT) has been riled by the increase in cases of politically motivated violence in some parts of the country,” reported Bulawayo 24.

“The trust said cases of violence are being recorded in both urban and rural areas and are both intra and inter party involving mainly MDC T and Zanu PF supporters.

“It said on 26 December 2017, two Zanu PF youth led by Zanu PF ward chairperson for ward 10, Marondera, Obadiah Chisango heavily assaulted four MDC-T youth at Mahusekwa Business centre in Marondera West ward 10.

This was just one of many similar cases in the HZT report. For all his talk and twittering about the elections going to be free, fair and credible and free of violence; President Mnangagwa and his Junta regime are not going to risk losing power by holding free and fair elections. As long as Zanu PF is confident its more subtle vote rigging activities such as getting Chiefs (who have just received their new truck bribes) to frog march rural people to vote for the party are working then there will be no violence. However, if the more subtle vote rigging measures are not working then the party will turn up the violence. This is a well-trodden Zanu PF path, everyone knows that.

The real tragedy here is that we have civic organizations like Heal Zimbabwe whose leaders are making a living out of reporting Zimbabwe’s culture of political violence. These organizations have ignored the solution to end the violence – implementing the democratic reforms – in favour of pacifist solutions which, when all is said and done, seek to appease the regime by making no demands for it to implement any reforms

"Heal Zimbabwe also calls upon political parties in Zimbabwe to respect and enforce the Electoral Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates, as it paves the way for a smooth electoral process that is devoid of violence," said the organisation.

"Police must also be swift in apprehending people implicated in violent activities. In pursuit of his clarion call on the need for peaceful elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa must do everything possible to ensure that the call on the need for peace and tolerance ahead of the 2018 elections is strictly adhered to and followed religiously."

What President Mnangagwa must do is implement the democratic reforms. “Mr President, do not waste the nation or SADC leaders’ time talking or twittering about peaceful elections; implement bloody the reforms! Not next month! Not after the elections! NOW!” Why is HZT finding it so bloody difficult to say this simple truth!

It is not in the interest of Heal Zimbabwe employees to end Zimbabwe’s culture of violence, they will be out of work, and so they are doing their best to discourage the nation from doing the right thing to end the violence. Such is Zimbabwe’s curse; to have a corrupt and illegitimate regime that thinks it can regain legitimacy by talking about peaceful elections alone whilst its thugs continue to cause mayhem. The regime is cheered all the way by busy bodies who pretend to complain about the violence buy actually profit from it as the greater the violence the larger their donor funded grant!

“Heal Zimbabwe Trust (HZT) has been riled by the increase in cases of politically motivated violence!” Of course, they would say that; they have to justify why they are asking for more donor funding!

Soon HZT will start giving a count of people killed in these acts of political violence and madness which the nation could have easily avoided by insisting on implementing the reforms BEFORE elections are held. It is then, maybe, that the busy bodies at HZT will have their collective conscience finally pricked and forcing them to admit in their naivety and greed they have been sanitizing Zanu PF’s culture of violence and not ending it.

Mugabe’s relatives in the ZRP are being fired following the firing of Chihuri who was seen as being sympathetic to G40.
After decades of living in Ease Street they are now joining us povo in S**t Street! They defended the corruption and tyranny and ignored us or worse still arrested and abused us when we call for a more just system of government. They defended no-regime-change ethos because they thought they will always live on Ease Street. Now they will realise, too late, that we were calling for a just political system for the good of us all.

Life in S**t Street is tough, it is not ease to live on US$1.00 or less a day. Whatever wealth you had amassed whilst on Ease Street, it will not last long now that there is no more were that came from, You will start having to cut back and soon you too will be living on US$1.00 or less a day!

How the mighty have fallen!

The path to hell is paved with good intentions. Zimbabwe is a hell-on-earth to those 3/4 of her population living on US$1.00 or less a day. One cannot keep a mouse on that if one paid the person who has to feed it and clean its cage! Why millions of people should be forced to live in such abject poverty cheek and jowl with the filthy rich with 15 bedroom mansions, a fleet of flashy cars, 40 gold watches, etc., etc. all bought with the wealth stolen from the poor is what makes this situation even more intolerable!

Organizations like HZT had nothing to do with what Zanu PF has done to land the nation in this hell-hole but their refusal to accept that Zimbabwe needs to implement the reforms has encouraged Zanu PF to resist implementing the reforms. So, in that regard, yes people in HZT have help pave our path into this hell-hole!

HZT's refusal to review their position on this matter even with all the evidence that they are helping Zanu PF get away with murder makes the matter worse. Some people have asked who is funding them- it will not be beyond Zanu PF to find the party is involved! Zanu PF corrupting influence has a long reach, many NGOs are Government Organised NGOs (GONGO)! When most people think the NGO is pursuing a common people agenda, GONGO is pushing a Zanu PF agenda!

Zimbabwe's economic problems are man-made, decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have destroyed the country's once vibrant economy. It is sickening that those responsible for all the mismanagement and looting are now stepping forward to demand the poor's votes or else they will make life even more miserable for the poor!

We need to implement the democratic reforms and end this oppression of man by man! I agree the First Lady is not seeking to end the injustice in the country but is rather seeking to perpetuate it under the pretext of helping the poor!

“Will this smooth, though also ruthless, operator again outfox international donors, creditors and investors this year by presenting a plausible impression of free and fair elections to win their financial support – while relinquishing none of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front’s (Zanu-PF) firm grip on power?” you asked.

The answer is no, President Mnangagwa will not outfox for the international community including SADC that this year’s elections are free, fair and credible when he has not even implemented even one of the democratic reforms.

SADC leaders asked for the 2013 elections to be postpone to ensure the reforms the GNU was tasked to implement were implemented. They told Mugabe and Tsvangirai this during the June 2013 SADC summit in Maputo, Mozambique. They were very disappointed that their request was ignored; Mugabe even had the cheek to threaten withdrawing from the regional grouping if they insisted. They should have called his bluff especial now in hindsight of the November 2017 coup.

As much as SADC leaders wanted Mugabe to go they also know the coup could have dragged Zimbabwe into serious economic and political chaos. They were not fooled by Mnangagwa’s nonsense that it was not a coup. SADC leaders know that allowing Zanu PF to once again get away with another rigged election is to throw the door open to serious street protest or worse, another coup! They will not let Mnangagwa get away with failing to implement the reforms they had demanded for the second time! Mnangagwa is fearful if this and has been on a charm offensive regional tour; he is wasted his time because no one is being fooled!

If President Mnangagwa goes ahead and hold this year’s elections with no reforms in place; SADC will declare the sham elections null and void; of that I am 100% certain.
