The real State Of Nation Address (SONA) we should be having in Zimbabwe is why, 46 years after independence, millions of our people continue to be denied even the most basic freedoms human rights and dignities.

The white colonial regimes oppressed, exploited and treated blacks as inferiors beings who could not be trusted to make rational decision because they are inertly incapable of rational thinking. The war of independence was fought to put an end to all this! 

Alas! 1980 marked the end of white colonial oppression, yes; but very little else changed. The majority of our people continue to be treated as dirty, denied the same freedoms, human rights and dignities by the whites are now being denied them by the black ruling elite!

SONA Part 1: Why are millions of Zimbabweans, 46 years after independence, still being denied “One man, one vote!”

The South African generals who were send to investigate the blatant cheating and wanton violence visited on the ordinary Zimbabweans by Zanu PF during the 2008 elections were shocked at the barbarism and callous indifference of regime! Zanu PF has learned to hide the wanton violence but otherwise continues to ride roughshod over the masses.  

46 years after independence Zimbabweans continue to be denied these basic and fundamental freedoms and rights:

A meaningful say in the governance of the country. “One man, one vote!” remains a mirage. Zanu PF has yet to hold free, fair and credible elections. The nearest the nation came to holding freed elections was 2008 and Mnangagwa and Chiwenga launched Operation Mavhotera Papi to wrestle power from MDC and, more cynically, to punish the people for having dared to reject Zanu PF. 

The primary task of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms to secure all the basic human rights and freedoms and thus ensure the blatant cheating and wanton violence of 2008 are never repeated. The MDC leaders entrusted the task to implement reforms sold out, not even one token reform was implemented. 

SADC leaders warned Tsvangirai & co. of the folly of participating in flawed elections; the warning fall on deaf ears. 

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2013 elections and all subsequent elections. SADC and AU condemned Zimbabwe’s 2023 elections as flawed and illegal but were powerless to deny the regime legitimacy because Chamisa conned millions of his brain dead followers participate. 

Mnangagwa has bullied and bamboozled his Zanu PF supporters and the nation at large to pass CAB3 extending his stay in office a further 2 years and consolidating the regime’s dictatorial power on the pretext he is turning Zimbabwe into an upper middle income nation by 2030. Vision 2030, he called. 

The economy has not shown and signs of a meaningful recover since he took over from Mugabe in 2017 - proof vision 2030 is a mirage! 

Still Mnangagwa has moved on, he is now pushing for CAB4 which assumed vision 2030 has been delivered and CAB3 is done and dusted. CAB4 will turn Zimbabwe from a Republic into a Monarch, so that before his presidential term end in 2030 Mnangagwa will be crown King Munhumutapa. 

CAB3 has consolidated the dictatorial powers of the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship. CAB4 will turn the de facto dictatorship into a de jure dictatorship. 

We have just come full circle! Blacks had no vote during white colonial rule. In 1980 to the present the masses had a vote or be it not a meaningful vote since they were not allowed to reject Zanu PF. CAB4, just like CAB3 before it, is unstoppable Mnangagwa will be king and the people will have lost the vote altogether since kings are not elected!
