Mujuru banking on public sympathy when all they want is the complete demise of Zanu PF!

ZANU PF MPs aligned to Vice President Joice Mujuru are mulling plans to resign from Parliament in a move that could paralyse the legislature and force another general election.

The plan has as much chance of succeeding as the failed plan to ensure VP Mujuru held on to her position as VP after the elective congress. There are many reasons why the plan is doomed amongst them are the following:

1)    To force another general elections, two thirds of both houses, parliament and senate, will have to pass a resolution dissolving parliament and senate. The Mujuru faction plus MDC do not have the numbers.

Some people claimed Mujuru had as many as 100 MPs on her side before the factional fighting took centre stage three months ago; now with the battle all but won by the Mnangagwa faction, she will be very lucky to still have half of her MPs still behind her.

Mai Mujuru would be even luckier still if the 50 or so MPs supporting would risk their seats on the gravy train and resign to force bye-elections. As seating MPs their economic situation is infinitely better than if they were just another head of the powerless and voiceless masses, povo. Mujuru faction candidate is certain to lose the bye-election to Mnangagwa faction candidate in the first place, if the bye-election is a repeat of last year’s vote, and if there is no vote rigging then the opposition candidate will win.

2)    All Zanu PF MPs know that they did not win last year’s elections as Nathaniel Manheru cum George Charamba admitted in his last column over the weekend.

“If truth be told, very few leaders in Zanu-PF are able to explain how the 2013 elections happened, how the landslide victory came about. Equally, very few in Zanu-PF can legitimately claim that victory, much as it benefited them,” wrote Nathaniel Manheru in the article “The notion of an extended GNU had many silent proponents inside Zanu-PF” in Bulawayo24.

Everyone knows that last year’s elections were rigged and that it was the Mnangagwa faction who hatched the plan and executed it. Not that the plan was a master-piece, indeed it was amateurish as access to the voters roll would have revealed and hence Mugabe’s refusal to make it public. The plan worked largely because of the breath-taking incompetence of Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends; they failed to get even one democratic reform implemented, they did not even insist on having the voters roll released.

Most of the Mujuru faction MPs including VP Mujuru herself were deliberately kept in the dark of the details of last year’s vote rigging plan still they were aware of the plan and have since learnt more details. If they are serious about ending the Zanu PF dictatorship then they must reveal the details of last year’s rigged elections because that will show the regime is indeed illegitimate. That will be enough to force the regime to accept the implementation of all the democratic reforms and thus ensure the next elections are free, fair and credible.

If the Mujuru faction kept their lips sealed as regards last year’s rigged elections, then they are storing up trouble for themselves because they will have no chance of winning the bye-elections. It is one thing throwing the loaded dice it is another matter knowing that you are being cheated.

3)    The biggest challenge to Zanu PF’s continued rule is not the factional fighting, ruthless and bloody as it already, but the economic meltdown caused by the decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption. Throughout all these years none of the Zanu PF leaders, right across the factional divide, have shown that they had realised something was wrong. Even today, few in Zanu PF seems comprehend the full extent of the economic meltdown much less how to put it right.

If any of the Mujuru faction members are banking on public sympathy for the savage kicking in the teeth they have just got from the Mnangagwa faction to get themselves elected back into office to carry on as before on with the mismanagement and corruption as before then they need their heads examined. The Zimbabwe public want an end to the corruption and tyranny.

Conclusion

What the Mujuru faction is failing to realise is that as far as the ordinary Zimbabweans are concerns they are part and parcel of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship which dragged the nation into this political and economic hell-hole. The only way out of this hell is for the dictatorship to be completely dismantled; the dog-eat-dog factional fighting is a necessary part of this dismembering of the dictatorship.

The Mujuru faction is the less device and ruthless of the two factions in Zanu PF but that any look at VP Mujuru, Rugare Gumbo or any of the other leaders in her factions shows that they are just as corrupt and incompetent as the rest in the Mnangagwa factions. The people of Zimbabwe want the political stage swept clean of the Zanu PF dictatorship and not the half-way house shaking off one Zanu PF faction and retain the other half to continue to rule!

The only useful option for thr Mujuru faction in this clean-start scenario is for them to give the details of how last year’s elections were rigged and force the implementation of the reforms to stop future elections being rigged. They can then take their chance in the next free, fair and credible election on the same footing as everyone else.

"It is a cesspit of personal ambition for power and status without responsibility. Unfortunately the masses like sheep, continue to be duped that the revolution is still alive," you wrote.

You are right, there is no revolution that has ever successfully delivered any of the rights and freedoms it set out to achieve where the masses follow the leaders like sheep. An electorate that take the trouble to understand what is going on and are forever asking why push themselves and their leaders to excel whereas followers who will accept whatever they are told encourage the leaders to assume the arrogance of infallible demigods.

Kwame Nkrumah was right when he said ”Seek ye first the political kingdom and all else shall be added onto you.” The fault is with tyrants like Mugabe who have promised the masses economic prosperity whilst denying them freedom of expression, free media, the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life itself. And the faulty lies equally with the masses and intellectuals who believed the tyrants and followed them down this path. The economic rights will only be guaranteed once the political rights of freedom of expression etc. are safe and guaranteed!

Kwame Nkrumah was not able to follow his own advice, he assume dictatorial powers; still his intuition on which came first the political or economic rights was right!

@ Blessing Vava

"Mujuru’s tragedy that she will live to regret is the failure to understand the undemocratic nature and character of the party and President Mugabe,"you said all.

What is equally surprising is that there are some Western countries that had even considered her a serious candidate for the presidency just as they had considered Tsvangirai a serious candidate. These nations must think we are a nation of idiots.

The Chinese have their bet on their horse Mnangagwa but they are smart enough to know he is not home and dry yet since there is still the problem of the economic meltdown for him to deal with. Mugabe has failed to rig economic recovery and Mnangagwa is not going to do any better. Mnangagwa is inheriting a poison chalice, he does not know it yet but he will soon enough.

Gutsaruzhinji? Just another Zanu PF sick joke; there is mass poverty and the party wants to insist that is mass prosperity!?

Mugabe can have his Dr Grace Mugabe, many have expressed their doubts that she is worthy of the Phd but as for Gutsaruzhinji the whole nation knows that is a lie!

@ Stewart Chibwinda

Those who keep harping about the need for the unification of political parties led by individuals who have already proven to be breathtakingly incompetent underline just what is wrong in Zimbabwe - even when we know the individual is incompetent we lack the courage to dump him or her, We are like the monkey caught because we have clinched our fist and we will not open our hand to regain our freedom.

It took 15 years or so before we finally accepted Mugabe is a corrupt and murderous tyrant. I wonder how longer it is going to take the nation before they will finally accept that Tsvangirai, Biti, Ncube, Dabengwa, Makoni and others are incompetent blunders who just want to get back on the gravy train. The monkey has clinched its fist and now it seems the fist has a mind of its own, impenetrable to reason and logic.

An incompetent opposition is a gift to the tyrant - is it really relevant whether or not the opposition is united?

W Mukori The Independent 8 Dec 2006

MDC secretary for Information Paul Themba Nyathi (Independent, June 20) missed the point of my article of June 13. And since he is a very senior MDC official, it is very worrying.
>

I am not questioning the fight for a just, democratic and prosperous Zimbabwe we can all be proud of. I am not belittling the heroism of Morgan Tsvangirai “in leg irons and wearing a flimsy khaki prison garb”. Nor that of “hundreds of MDC supporters, including ordinary citizens … relating horrendous stories of personal abuse, torture and pain”.

What I am challenging is the confused and confusing MDC strategic plan or lack thereof. Without a well thought-out plan the struggle will be a protracted one with unnecessary suffering and waste of both material and human lives and, worst of all, another 10/15 years down the line the nation might well find itself fighting the same demons.

During the country’s struggle to end white oppression over 30 000 Zimbabweans lost their lives. All of these men, women and children were heroes and heroines in their own way. Their cause is the same we are fighting for today.

The fact that people like Tsvangirai should find themselves in leg irons, thousands brutalised and hundreds murdered in independent Zimbabwe is cause for thought. While it is important that we end the new oppression, it is even more important that we understand why the last struggle failed so dismally.

It was the lack of bold critical voices before and after Independence that allowed Zanu PF to be the monster it is. Open and critical debate would have encouraged close scrutiny of every aspect of the party’s policies, war strategy, etc. Here merit would not only be valued but thrive. Of course, the party would have made mistakes but the beauty of this open system is that it allows one to learn from one’s mistakes and put things right.

Zanu PF is a party led by men and women of little vision who the country has rightly judged as unfit to govern. MDC leaders and all those who aspire to lead, if they too are to avoid the same pitfalls that Zanu PF’s leaders fell into, must have the humility to accept that they do not have a monopoly of knowledge and thus welcome and encourage criticism. The nation’s search for justice and peace is assured only if the nation can harness the rich and varied intellectual tapestry of Zimbabweans and non-Zimbabweans alike.
Those nations who have done that have prospered while those who have not have suffered. The MDC must show its tolerance of criticism now.

“In 90 days a serious people desirous of arresting their country’s slide to total oblivion can fashion a transitional mechanism that gets rid of Posa and many other obnoxious, anti-democratic pieces of legislation,” the MDC claims. In other words it knows what is good for the nation and we should just trust them to get it all right just as we trusted Zanu PF!

The worst MDC performance justifying why the party rightly deserves to be called a “confused and confusing” lot was when the results of the presidential election were announced. The party and its leader, Tsvangirai, had world centre stage and he had nothing to say. He was asked what the party would want its supporters to do. He gave no answer. What did he want the international community to do? Again he had no answer. Despite all the evidence throughout the campaign period and Zanu PF’s past history of intimidation and vote rigging it was evident that the MDC was taken totally by surprise.

The party had the option of telling its supporters, many of who had been denied the right to vote, to stage a sit-in at polling stations. The country had the world attention then and Mugabe would have been forced to think twice before he deployed his thugs to beat people queuing to vote!

I am yet to be convinced that the June “final push” – when the international community’s attention was focused elsewhere and Mugabe had had a year to dig in – was more strategic than a sit-in in March 2002.

I do not know of any effort on the part of the MDC to educate Zanu PF thugs responsible for carrying out much of the political intimidation. They are as much victims of the economic mismanagement and corruption, the two evils behind Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown, as the rest of us. To win them over, however, the MDC must itself rise above the “them and us”
mentality that these thugs are locked into. The right to vote is above party politics. What has the MDC done to make Zanu PF thugs understand that?
The only reason the people of Zimbabwe have given the MDC their political support is because they are desperate. They have held back their whole-hearted support because they are not convinced the MDC will not be just as self-serving and oppressive as Zanu PF has proved to be.

The MDC can start winning the whole-hearted support of the people of Zimbabwe by admitting it did not have the vision to accept debate both inside and outside the party but will do so from now on. Out of this debate it can expect sound economic and political policies and strategies.

Canada is to resume the deportation of Zimbabweans who are not in that country legally.

This is a nightmare for all those who are sent back home. To go back to a country with 90% unemployment where even the most basic services like clean running water and electricity are a luxury is something no one would wish for.

Zimbabweans, where ever you are, must redouble their efforts to get Zimbabwe out of this mess!

It has taken Zanu PF 34 years, a national economy in ruins, over 30 000 murdered in cold-blood for selfish political gain, etc. to finally admit there are some bad apples in the party. The people have known this for decades but because they had no meaningful say in who ruled the country have not been able to change anything.

The single most important lesson here is that the people must have their right to free, fair and credible elections restored and never again be at the mercy of a blind ruling elite who have taken 34 years to admit what has been blatantly obvious!

Yes Zanu PF has thrown away some bad apples but the people must now have a say in fresh free, fair and credible elections on whether they believe the party is now competent to rule or someone else must rule!

THE United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has injected $1, 2 million for the rehabili-tation of infrastructure at Shurugwi town as well as computerisation of the local authority, the town council chairperson has said

This is really a crying shame that the nation is now dependent on donors for everything! So the money splashed on Mugabe's birthday party alone would have paid for Shurugwi's basic needs; five other towns the size of Shurugwi would have had their basic needs paid for from the $5 million splashed on Bona's wedding!

Are the people of Shurugwi and the rest of the nation's populous are aware of this criminal waste of the nation's resources!

The Zimbabwean Newspaper reports that Mugabe has deserted his former close ally, Emmerson Mnangagwa, once touted as his successor, and is now promoting the presidential ambitions of a surprise candidate – Dr. Dzepasi Innocent Tizora, who is, the director of State House.

That would be a real surprise if Mugabe was to dump Mujuru and now Mnangagwa but the greatest surprise would be if he was to pull this off! Mnangagwa has been cheated too many times and I would be really surprised if he was to allow Mugabe to make a complete a*** of him once again!

Shuvai Mahofa collapses in a heap in the sweltering heat, singing and dancing to impress Grace Mugabe.

She was singing for her supper or shall we say singing to an early grave for her supper!

We are a nation that has lost its self-respect. Mahofa is in the leadership position and therefore expected to lead the nation out of this nightmare but has been too busy grovelling to notice the nation has been sinking all these years.

There is a crying need for free, fair and credible elections so we can finally get rid of these grovelling idiots and replace them with individuals with some common sense at least!

EVEN IF ALL THE ALIGNMENT NACKERDIEN IS CALLING FOR HERE WERE IMPLEMENTED I FAIL TO SEE HOW THE NEW ZEC WOULD STOP MUGABE HAVING A PARALLEL ZEC OPERATION, FORCE MUGABE TO RELEASE THE VOTERS ROLL TIMEOUSLY, ETC.

AS LONG AS MUGABE HAS THE SOLE POWER TO HIRE AND FIRE ZEC OFFICIALS THE COMMISSIONERS WILL ALWAYS BE BEHOLDENED TO HIM TO DO AS HE DICTATES. THE NEW CONSTITUTION HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS KEY ISSUE AND NO AMOUNT OF TINKERING ON THE EDGES OF THE NEW CONSTITUTION WILL CHANGE THE FACT THAT IT IS A WEAK AND FEEBLE CONSTITUTION!

AMEN!

PEOPLE LIKE RUGARE GUMBO, MOGAN TSVANGIRAI HAVE BEEN IN POWER ELECTED BY US THE PEOPLE ON THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY WILL BUILD A FREE AND JUSTICE SOCIETY BUT AS SOON AS THEY GOT INSIDE THE MERCEDES BENZ THEY FORGOT ALL ABOUT FREEDOM, JUSTICE AND THE SUFFERING MASSES. AS SOON AS THEY ARE OUT OF POWER THEY KNOW THEY ONLY HAVE TO PLAY THE HUMAN RIGHTS CHAMPION CARD AGAIN AND WE, THE PEOPLE, WILL BE GULLIBLE AND NAÏVE TO FALL FOR IT – AGAIN! WE NEED TO WISE UP AND STOP BEING SO NAÏVE AND GULLIBLE!

Zanu PF has just fired Rugare Gumbo from the party.
Gumbo has been running with the hares since his suspension although he still wanted the dogs to know that he can still hunt with them. He has been good at giving us details of what already knew but would not say how Zanu PF rigged last year's election which would have been more useful to us the hares.

Well now that the Zanu PF, the dogs, have made it categorically clear that he is not one of them anymore; we will see whether he will continue to dither and dodge as before!
