Zanu PF and MDC in secret GNU Mark 2 talks - we would be foolish to trust this lot again!

There are rumours that Zanu PF and MDC have been holding secret meetings with the view of forming another GNU which will then be tasked to find a way out of the country’s worsening economic and political situation. The representatives of the parties have met in Accra, Ghana and will meet in Victoria Falls before the end of this month.

"If you love this country you would not write such stories. Some of us are working very hard to try and alleviate the people's suffering and we do not need the media to throw spanners in the works," responded an MDC national executive member when asked to comment on the story.

This is a sick joke; because this is exactly what happened last time. In the last 2008 -2013 GNU it was Zimbabwe’s political leaders who negotiated a political way out of the political impasse in total secret and get presented the nation with the 2008 GPA as fiat accompli. Back then at least SADC was involved and the GPA had a raft of democratic reforms which, if implemented, would have dismantled the Zanu PF dictatorship and delivering the democratic system of government the nation has been dying for, literally!

As it happened, the GNU failed to implement even one of the GPA reforms, not one, and so Mugabe was able to rig the July 2013 elections with the greatest easy. Mugabe bribed Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to kick the reforms into the tall grass so that not even one reform was implemented. We are in this political and economic mess because those tasked to implement the reform in the last GNU let us down.

Now the same politicians who created the dictatorship, on the one hand, are teaming up with the same opposition politicians who sold-out during the last GNU to produce another GPA and then yet another GNU. Once again the negotiations are all being carried out in secret and the nation will be presented with a fait accompli GPA.

At least the 2008 GPA had SADC as the guarantor and, no doubt, it was SADC who pushed hard to have the raft of democratic reforms in the agreement. This time SADC is not involved and we know Tsvangirai has already been talking about some watered down versions of the original 2008 reforms we wanted implement.

The failure to allow free media coverage of the negotiations in 2008 meant the people did not have clue what the reforms were and hence the reason they failed to force the politicians to implement them.

Of course we all want to hear that our politicians are working hard on our behalf so why all the secrecy? There are two areas in which Zanu PF and the MDC opposition have cooperated fully. The first area being in getting salary, allowances or more perks for the politicians. The second area is in keeping the public in the dark of what the politicians were up to.

The MDC official is telling us the party is “working very hard to try and alleviate the people’s suffering”; if they had done a day’s work during the GNU then why did the fail to get even one reform implement.

So as contrast to the 2008 GPA this 2015 GPA will have feeble reforms; to be implemented by the same incompetent and corrupt leaders; the public will be confine to their usual role of helpless bystanders and SADC will play no supervisory role. In short this 2015 GPA and the GNU to come from it will accomplish nothing of substance!

The people of Zimbabwe have been short changed and betrayed by Mugabe and Zanu PF for 35 years and sold-out by MDC during the GNU. If anyone is serious about democratic reforms in Zimbabwe then the first thing that must be implemented is media reforms so that the people are given a chance to at least follow the dialogue determining their future. We must stop treating them as they are idiots to be told after everything has already been decided; they have the right to be asked!

The economic meltdown is real and the suffering it is causing to the nation is real. This nation is sleep walking into the abyss. The country's sick political system has rendered the ordinary peo-ple voiceless and powerless, they are more than sharks on their back, in the tonic immobility state. All power is in the hands of Zanu PF and Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe has never cared about the people all he has ever cared about is power and amassing wealth. The economic meltdown and the in fighting with in his own power caused his own mega-lomania has made him even more desperate to hang on to power to his dying day. Those in his party have never been the brightest stars in the sky and their fighting for power has totally dis-tracted them. They are like two bulls fighting to the death with a pride of hungry lions as their audience; they are completely oblivious of the economic meltdown and the disaster it is unleashing!

GNU mark2 is the nation's third chance to get a healthy and functional democratic government; we cannot afford to mess this one too. The first chance in 1980 was a wasted because Mugabe imposed this murderous dictatorship. The second chance was during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when MDC was supposed to implement the democratic reforms to end the dictatorship but failed to implement even one reform after five years.

The interparty talks between Zanu PF and MDC are real and the nation will be very foolish to let these same leaders who have wasted the first two chances to put the nation on a path of stability and peace wasted this third chance too. The people must have a meaningful say in defining what this new GNU Mark2 animal is.

@ Rakanga

The more reason we the people should demand the full implementation of all the GPA reforms and not Tsvangirai's watered down reforms so that we have from henceforth free, fair and credible elections. If the Chinese should fail to give Mnangagwa the $70 billion or the British should send Tsvangirai back with his begging bowl empty, we can kick them out of office and never again to be at the tyrannical mercy.

Indeed even if The Chinese and British offer to help we must have the reforms fully implemented because that is the only way we can force these people to tell us what the nation will be giving up in return! The right to a meaningful vote should not be traded in for anything!

@ Mudhara

"There is no way Tsvangirai and MDC can talk about Zimbabwe and GNU no 2 while they are not seeing eye to eye here , whats wrong with you guys." you said.

Over what exactly are they "not see eye to eye"? Because if it is over the reforms then they can say the new GNU will agree and implement the reforms. In other words the GNU is working to-wards that goal.

I have told you before you should not comment until you understand the issue because you are making a complete ass of yourself yet again.

The important point here is the two parties failed to deliver any democratic changes during the last GNU we, the people, will be foolish to trust them to formulate yet another GNU in which we have no say.

@ Belingwe

Tsvangirai failed to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU. He would have ended the struggle you are yapping about now. So how did Wilbert Mukori "the enemy of the struggle" do to stop Tsvangirai implementing even one reform?

You do not need enemies because, like all ignorant and stupid people, you do not know what is in your own best interest and therefore more often than not you will act against your best interests. You are your own worst enemy. Nhamo ine nharo!

Sell of the CD "Pigidori" will shoot through the roof following someone's death. This Mugabe regime has cause so much suffering and deaths to the nation the people will be celebrating the end of an era of fear and despair, the dawn of a new day after a lifetime of darkness; the fact that is coming with the death of someone is his fault and not the people's.

There is a reworked out version of “Pidigori” on youtube featuring Jonah Sithole where Mukanya explain what the song about; you will love it.
