Tsvangirai "credited for not turning Zim into war-torn Somalia" - we still falling and set to crash

If you expect people to believe what you say then you must respect historic facts and not insult the readers with lies.

“Morgan Tsvangirai is one of Africa’s leading democracy struggle icons who is respected worldwide for starring Zanu PF strong arm tactics in the eye of the storm and fighting the ruling party utilising peaceful democratic tools,” you say.

Any credentials Tsvangirai has ever had as a champion for democratic change, he lost them on 31 July 2013. At noon of that day, long before the voting was complete, Tsvangirai announced to the world that Zanu PF had “stolen the elections”! This was just confirming what most people had known all along would happen and they had warned Tsvangirai and his MDC friends would happen.

The GNU’s primary task was to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF stealing elections. The GNU was initially given 18 months to complete the task but in the end it lasted 60 months, five years. Sadly, MDC still failed to get even one reform implemented in five years!

MDC leaders “were busy enjoying themselves and forgot why they were in the GNU,” remark SADC leaders after the rigged July 2013 elections in sheer exasperation. So, all this talk of Tsvangirai “starring Zanu PF strong arm tactics in the eye” is utter nonsense.

“As the momentum for the formation of a Grand Coalition gathers pace in Zimbabwe for the 2018 Elections and as the ruling party continues to press the self-destruct button, it is only with wisdom that we take a close look at the man more likely to lead the coalition,” Nyambiya tells us. “Morgan Tsvangirai is the front runner to be the presidential candidate of the Grand Coalition due to his long track record in the opposition trenches and being the leader of the biggest opposition party, the MDCT.”

By failing to get even one democratic reform implemented in five years of the GNU, Tsvangirai has proven himself to be breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. Where is the “wisdom” of pushing a proven corrupt and incompetent individual to hold the highest office in the land?

Nyambiya, you and many others – many of whom are CIO operatives, for selling the idea is a top priority for Zanu PF – can do all you can to convince the naïve and gullible opposition that they will win next year’s election guaranteed as long as they form the coalition. The truth is with no reforms in place Zanu PF will rig the 2018 elections just as easily as it rigged the 2013 elections.

Of course, President Mugabe does not want to have even one reform implemented before the election and hence the reason many CIOs are cheering and promoting the “Grand Coalition” project. By noon of 2018 election day Tsvangirai will once again be announcing to the world that Zanu PF “stole the elections”! No doubt Darlington Nyambiya and many of those promoting coalition as the silver bullet will all disappear like mist under the African morning sun.

The country’s failure to come up with a working governance system is at the very heart of our economic chaos and political paralysis. We need to deal with this matter honestly and with the sense of urgency the matter demands. Falsifying historic fact to promote individuals with a proven track record as corrupt and incompetent is not helping us get out of this hell-hole but is dragging us even deeper!

“Tsvangirai is credited by most Zimbabweans for not turning Zimbabwe into another war-torn Somalia,” Nyambiya wrote.

If nothing is done to save Zimbabwe from the disastrous path we have followed these last 37 years there is a real danger of the country descend into violent street protest or worse as people, in desperation, sought a way out of the mess. Of course, historians will look back at the 2008 to 2013 GNU as one of the wasted golden opportunity the nation had to change course. And Tsvangirai is the man who wasted that chance!

Mugabe and Zanu PF were doomed to failure because all they have ever cared about is gratify their insatiable greed for power and wealth. But since they are good at wasting it was just a matter of time before there was no wealth left to feed their ever growing appetites. The regime is like a bacteria culture they have eaten themselves out of a home and now they are dying.

Zimbabwe is in this political paralysis and economic mess because we have failed to implement the necessary democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Before the 2013 elections, MDC politicians assured the nation they had done enough to ensure the coming elections will finally be free, fair and credible. Other people, notably SADC leaders, said MDC needed to do more but MDC leaders would not listen.

By noon of voting day, 31 July 2013, Tsvangirai acknowledged that Zanu PF “stole the elections”.

MDC-T has failed to get even one meaningful reform implemented since the rigged July 2013 elections and yet the party is talking of electoral victory in next year’s elections.

“Although the matter has not been fully finalised we are happy to note that in her papers Justice Makarau has now conceded that the supplier of BVR kits will only be chosen from the three final suppliers shortlisted by the UNPD. That is a great victory for the people of Zimbabwe,” Mr Mwonzora is telling the nation.

There is no “great victory” here since this is insignificant compared to the raft of reforms that must be implemented to ensure next year’s elections are free and fair and not a repeat of the 2013 elections. MDC-T are once again ignoring the warning not to contest the 2018 elections without first implementing the reforms.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” admitted Senator David Coltart before the 2013 elections.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

It will be sheer madness for the people of Zimbabwe to go into yet another flawed election knowing fully well Zanu PF will rig the vote and yet expect the regime to lose. We must not allow ourselves to be misled by MDC-T politicians who have their own selfish agenda.

The only victory here is that Mr Mwonzora and a few of his opposition friends will get themselves seats on the gravy train.

@ Linda

When Zimbabwe attained her independence in 1980, we all welcomed what we thought was the advent of freedom, liberty, human rights, economic prosperity, etc. Well 37 years later, with the country in a total economic mess and everyone stripped of their freedoms and basic human rights; it is clear our hopes and dreams of what independence would bring have been dashed. We have failed to realise that with the benefits came the responsibilities; it was our duty to ensure we have a competent government to deliver on our dreams.

The truth is Zimbabwe cannot afford to have another rigged election next year, the pressure is on for us to get our act together and stop the rot!

This is mind numbing political naivety bordering on criminal intent!

Douglas Mwonzora knows that less than 5% of the democratic reforms we need for free and fair elections have been implemented – he has said so himself. Then why is he talking of contesting next year’s elections when he knows the elections will be rigged? MDC dragged the nation into the 2013 elections knowing there was no hope of free and fair elections – Senator Coltart admitted that.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

MDC failed to implement reforms although they had five years to do so. They dragged the nation into the 2013 elections knowing they will be rigged. Now they want to do the same again! Just how long are we going to allow MDC politician to sell-out without being held to account.

If anyone is injured much less killed – God forbid – I for one would argue the victims to sue MDC-T for their part in this mess. Tsvangirai has the $4 million Highlands mansion, his thirty pieces of silver for sell-out during the GNU, the party can sell it to pay the compensation!

Everyone, including opposition politicians themselves agree the the 2013 elections were rigged and that we need to implement reforms to stop the vote rigging. Everyone agrees that not even one reform has been implemented since the 2013 rigged elections. So what is the basis of Mr Nyambiya's assertion that a united opposition will win the elections with no reforms in place?

People like Nyambiya must stop all this guess and gambling with the wellbeing and every the very lives of others! His whole article is not based on anything other that what he wish to see happen! This is totally irresponsible!

Some people have a binary mentality, black or white, and they refuse to accept there are other possibilities, other colours of the rainbow. Nyambiya accept the President Mugabe is a bad leader and his binary mentality Tsvangirai must therefore be a great leader. We can point out Tsvangirai's bad but people like him will never accept any of it!

How anyone like him, who appears to be clever can be this myopic is the great mystery here!

As a senior public official, and as a cabinet member, she could not be more senior, Mai Mujuru has a sacred duty to depend the constitution and the nation and protecting the lives of the people of Zimbabwe is on top of that list. She certainly betrayed her duty to the nation and therefore by right she must brought before a court of law to answer serious treason charges. For her to argue that she was a junior member of the cabinet, that the 5th Brigade were not a regular army unit, she was muzzled by the official secrecy act, etc. these are all feeble excuses comparable to the Nuremberg "I was following orders!" The Nuremberg trials have already established the bench mark especially is such cases of crime against humanity!

The only reason why Mai Mujuru, Mnangagwa, Mugabe and all the other Zanu PF leaders who played a part in the Gukurahundi massacre will never be punished is because we, Zimbabweans, have yet to appreciate the, sanctity of life, true value of human life even our own flesh and blood! To us human life is as “cheap as chips”!

I think President Mugabe wants to fire Kasukuwere but does not dare!

President Mugabe is a ruthless and cunning political operator but after nearly four decades in power he has weaved a political web so complex that he not only has no clue what string will catch what but, worse still, he is caught in his own web.

When President Mugabe called Professor Jonathan Moyo “devil incarnate” at the late Nathan Shamuyarira’s funeral many people sworn that the professor’s political career was finished. Professor Moyo knows a truck load of dirty on Zanu PF and President Mugabe himself, there is no doubt that he blackmailed Mugabe and this kept his job.

Last year when the Professor was once again under pressure over the misuse of the $400 000 he once again fired a warning shot and reminded upstarts like Douglas Nyikayaramba that he and his security sector top brass friends must explain what happened to the Marange diamonds they has taken.

“Tyson” Kasukuwere is a thug and he will have a truckload of dirty on Zanu PF and Mugabe himself too.

In the end, President Mugabe will find it impossible to protest all these Zanu PF thugs for much longer and true to their threat the cut-lose thug will spill their truckload of dirty and drag the whole Zanu PF regime with him/her.

Zanu PF, like all clubs of thieves and lawless criminals, was doomed to imploded because from the time of its formation the party has always carried with it the self-distract gene. In Zanu PF it has always been each man or woman for himself and your individual safety depended on how many other thugs you can blackmail and so the more dirty you have on others the better for you. If you do get into trouble, make sure you take down as many others as you can- who knows you may even survive by constructing a raft of your dead comrades!

Morgan Tsvangirai, "the leader of the biggest opposition party" in the country. Yeah right!

Tsvangirai has just completed a nation wide tour and all he has managed to attract to all his meetings is a handful of people. No one was fooled by Luke's "opinion makers" spin. Did you see the handful of people who attended yesterday's NERA Feedback rally? Who would have believed that there are so few opinion makers in Harare!

SADC and donors deserted MDC in droves after the rigged July 2013 election disappointed by MDC's pathetic performance record throughout the GNU. Many Zimbabweans did not realize how corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders were but the penny is dropping. Tsvangirai and company sold-out and it would be stupid for Zimbabweans to trust him to be president!

@ Mwonzora

Did you see the size of the crowd, Comrade Mwonzora, who came to listen to your "great victory for the people of Zimbabwe"?

The truth is in our fight for free, fair and credible elections, who supplies the BVR kits will contribute a small and insignificant part in ensuring free elections. None of the real game changer reforms have been implemented and it is worry that NERA is making a big song and dance to celebrate a trivial matter whilst saying nothing on the big issues!

The truth is there was no big crowd at the Feedback rally because there was no "great victory" to be announced. The people are beginning to see the dirty game political opportunists like you at MDC-T, NERA, etc. are playing; you are just using the people for your selfish political gain.

When are the real big democratic reforms going to be implemented? Unless you can answer that, you should stop wasting our time!

@ Dennis Shoko

Dennis, no one is trying to take away from Tsvangirai the economic improvements MDC brought when they joined the GNU just as no one would take away from Mugabe the improvements he made in education, health, etc. But whatever improvements he made in education, health, etc. it does not mean that President Mugabe cannot he held accountable for any mistake he has done such as the rampant corruption and Gukurahundi massacre. The same applies to Tsvangirai, he too must be held to account for failing to get even one democratic reform implemented in five years.

I am not an expert on constitutions and how they should be “consummated” but what I do know is that the new constitution has failed to deliver the people’s rights and freedoms. What I also refuse to accept is that MDC did not have time to do whatever was required to ensure the 2013 elections were free and fair; the GNU was supposed to last 18 months and in the end lasted 60 months and still it failed to deliver what it was supposed to. All this evidence points to one thing that Tsvangirai and his MDC friends are clearly corrupt and incompetent.

@ Inomusa

It is tragic that the country is up to her eyes in this sewage pond because of decades of chronic misrule. We know the primary cause is corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship, have known this for the last 17 years. We have also known that the solution is for us to end the autocratic system of government President Mugabe imposed on the nation and replace it with a multi-party democratic system of government.

There are many example of healthy and functional democracies out there for us to copy; we do not need to reinvent the wheel. The Greeks invent democracy over 2 500 years ago and yet it is shocking how we are struggling to grasp even the most basic concepts such as freedom of expression, open debate, the ruled holding the rulers to account, etc.

Our friend Shoko accepts we want a democratic Zimbabwe and even accept MDC is supposed to be a democratic party as its middle name implies and yet he cannot abide the thought of the party’s leaders being held to account for their treasonous betrayal of the nation by failing to implement even one democratic reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so.

After 37 years of independence, in this time and age, it is very disappointing that one would have to fight to get some people to accept even such basics as what is a free vote and holding leaders to account. One is given to worry whether we will ever understand democracy and good governance or are we forever destined to have corrupt and autocratic dictators.
