Povo have no business joint Lacoste faction victory parade on Saturday - focus

“Plans for a Solidarity MARCH in support of the ZDF in removing Mugabe are on an advanced stage,” reported Zimeye.

“Saturday the 18th of November have been declared an independence day as all Zimbabweans are going to March to state house to remove Mugabe from power starting from Robert Mugabe square in Harare.”

This is a foolish idea!

The ZDF coup was about the factional war that has been going on in Zanu PF for the last four years. When President Mugabe fired VP Mnangagwa last week it was a huge victory for the G40 faction. The Lacoste faction knew they had to come up with their counter move or they were toast! They did, staged the coup.

There are many Zimbabweans out there who, desperate for change, want to see the coup as a fight for democratic change. It is not. Those in the Lacoste faction will only be too glad to see the ordinary Zimbabweans join in the plan march to drive their factional victory home.

The Army and the war veterans have their own agenda - to remove Mugabe and replace him with Mnangagwa, period.

What the people of Zimbabwe want is to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship by implementing the democratic reforms so that there free, fair and credible elections. This would effectively remove Mugabe, the tyrant would never win free and fair elections, but, better still, stop any dictator taking over from him.

Both the Army Generals who staged the coup and their acolytes, the rogue war veterans who have been the dictatorship’s storm troopers, have never ever condemn the Zanu PF dictatorship. Even when they were corned on democratic reforms they have been coy. Since independence, these guys have enjoyed wielding the veto on who ruled Zimbabwe and they have no intention of giving up that for a vote!

The Army and the war veterans do not want the Zanu PF dictatorship dismantled, especially now when many of them see the Mnangagwa presidency as the beginning of a change for the better of their fortune!

The people believed Mugabe's socialist rhetoric in the 1980s and ignored the tyrant's, even then, tyrannical and corrupt tendencies. People already know that Mnangagwa is a vote rigging and murderous thug, after all he was Mugabe's right hand man all these years. If they welcome him on Saturday and give him a guard of honour to State House then they will only have themselves to blame because they will have a fight in their hands to get him out of there from now on.

Right now, before Mnangagwa has even been sworn in as the next president, he is busy laying plans to consolidate his grip on power, reforming the dictatorship to his own image and promoting his own cronies.  None of those plans will include implementing any democratic reforms. Indeed, he will be scheming on how to make sure no democratic reforms ever see the light of day!

The Zanu PF dictatorship has never been weaker, the demise of Mugabe and his G40 faction has split the party down the middle. Not everyone in the Army is a Lacoste supporter and not everyone in the rogue war veterans is a Lacoste supporter. As the victims of the Zanu PF dictatorship ordinary Zimbabweans have stayed out of the party’s factional wars and it imperative that we do so now. Joining the Lacoste faction victory parade will undermine our demands for the Lacoste dictatorship to be dismantled.

Zanu PF is imploding, the party is rotten to the core and things far apart. The last thing we want is to be the ones propping up one faction and help it regroup and reassert the dictatorship. Zanu PF is crumbling we can make sure the dictatorship never rises again by implementing the reforms and not wait for the Lacoste faction to regroup much less give it our support whilst it regroups.

President Robert Mugabe has arrived at the ZOU graduation in Harare. Mugabe is reportedly accompanied by Patrick Chinamasa and Godfrey Gandawa.

Here is yet another sign of the coup plotter's weakness. Mugabe is under house arrest, the coup plotters said, so why is the tyrant allowed to get out?

The coup plotters have allowed Mugabe’s wife and family to leave the country, he has reportedly refuse to meet the plotters. He has pointedly refused to resign! The plotters have allowed him to speak with the outside world and meet SADC envoys and now he is even allowed to get out of the house and mix with the public confirming that he is still in charge and it is business, his business, as usual – forget the coup nonsense, it is of no real consequence.

Many a battle has been lost, even when everything pointed to a victory, all because of the blundering incompetence of those entrusted to deliver the coup de grace – they shot themselves in the head! If Mugabe is allowed to get back into power we will all live to regret the coup ever happened because the tyrant will punish the plotters and many more beside – collective punishment!

A source said following a lengthy discussion with the Military, yesterday late afternoon Mugabe accepted to step down after the conditions to protect and secure his family and assets when he leaves or dies were all agreed.

"The agreement was that he would address the nation today to say his Goodbyes as he had been assured full Presidential protection. In the evening President Jacob Zuma of South Africa called him to say don't accept. Zuma said he would tell Sadc to reject the Army's plans. Yesterday there was a meeting in Gaborone Botswana remember. Zuma called Sadc to tell them that Mugabe is no longer going and let's support him. Botswana President Khama rejected that and was very angry such that he left the meeting," said the source.

"Zuma became very worried as Sadc was divided between that issue and Mugabe again to say okay, accept to step down but insist on choosing to appoint a successor you want. Mugabe told the Generals that he will only step but will appoint my successor, the Military told him to reinstate ED and let him take over, and Mugabe has been refusing that, insisting that I cant let ED take over, I fired him constitutionally as I had the powers to do so. So, because of that, there is a deadlock and Sadc has given the Generals until Sunday 19 November to normalise everything and leave the streets, otherwise, they may consider action against Zimbabwe."

The source said action may mean sanctions against Zimbabwe, they may switch off power supplies and take Military action and so forth.

Of course, it was foolish of the coup plotters to have allowed Mugabe to dictate to them that happened. When they told him they had taken over control they should have told him he and his family would be safe but will not be allowed to leave the house until the matter is resolve.

When he refused to resigned, they should have started the impeachment or treason trial immediately.

Mugabe does not have to name his successor, that is nonsense. Once he has resigned, impeached or died, the party can go ahead and name who takes over. Mugabe is running rings round these blundering coup plotters!

You should reasons why taking part in the Lacoste victory parade will benefit povo and not expect everyone to join you just because you say so. I gave my reasons why I believe joining the Lacoste victory parade is a bad idea. You should do the same and give your reasons why you think povo should join.

If you will give no reasons then it is you who must shut up! The days of people following leaders blindly like sheep to the slaughter are over.

You have not given one single reason why you think joining the Lacoste victory parade is a good idea.

There are many Zimbabweans in the country and outside who think joining the parade is a good idea just as there are many who do not. Your being in Zimbabwe, fought in the liberation war, etc., etc. does not make your views more valid than mine. So why are you bringing up issues that are totally irrelevant?

Zimbabwe is in a serious political and economic mess and it is all hands on deck as we search for a solution and I dismiss with the contempt the matter deserves all those who claim that they are special and we must all listen to them and do as they say because they are First Lady, Zanu PF Youth Leaders, they have been in the opposition trenches, war veterans (especially the rogue ones who have murdered innocent Zimbabweans to impose this dictatorship), etc.

I respect reason and do not give a damn whom you are or think you are.

@ Danai

It was not just you and those rogue war veterans who joined Mugabe to establish and retain this corrupt and murderous dictatorship alone who fought for Zimbabwe's independence. There are many others in both the first and second chimurenga who contributed. Like every struggle there are those who believe in the cause and there are mercenaries; you and Mugabe are mercenaries because you hijack the revolution for selfish gain.

You are celebrating removing Mugabe today and yet yesterday you are the one who terrorised povo to impose him. You want to impose Mnangagwa tomorrow. The true freedom fighters believe in the freedom and human rights of all Zimbabweans and not just a few.

Mbuya Nehanda, Sekuru Kaguvi, Hebert Chitepo and all the other true freedom fighters have been turning in their graves to see what Mugabe and thugs like you have turned this beautiful country into - a den of vote rigging, looters and murderous tyrant. The coup plotters said they are "targeting criminals around Mugabe". Only a fool like you would not know that the coup plotters themselves are criminals and that Mugabe himself is the master criminal!

"Leave us alone the war veterans!" you say. That is the biggest mistake the nation has made; we should have never allowed vote rigging, looters and murderous thugs like you and Mugabe to rule the country all these years. Look at the complete mess you lot have made.

Zimbabwe will implement the democratic reforms and hold free, fair and credible elections - there is no compromise on that one! It is not just Mugabe’s reign of terror that is over, the whole Zanu PF dictatorship is going to be dismantled brick by brick!

@ Tapiwa

If you are building a house you must make sure everything is done properly from the foundation. Celebrating a Lacoste victory is laying foundation for a Lacoste dictatorship and those who think they can turn that into a democracy later are fools!

@Dube

You can say what you like what matters here is what the Lacoste people think - they see it as a victory parade celebrating the removal of Mugabe and coronation of their man. The ordinary Zimbabweans who turn up are there to stamp their approval to the new political dispensation! The greater the crowd tomorrow the more Mnangagwa will see this as a mandate for him to impose his own dictatorship!

You are right this is a life and death situations but what has that to do with me?

We are in this mess because for 37 years we have followed leaders without asking where we are going and why? You clearly want people to join in the Lacoste victory parade but will not say why you think it is a good idea. I have told people why I think it is a bad idea but, unless you give me reasons why you say I am wrong then I will stick to my position. If you think I will be persuaded by you calling me a fool think again. I have never followed someone blindly and have no intention of starting to do so now.

Give me reasons why joining Lacoste victory parade will help end the Zanu PF dictatorship! The days of empty slogans and all that nonsense are over my friend!

There is no doubt in anyone's mind who has followed Zanu PF politics these last three ways that the military coup is just a manifestation of the party's factional war. We all know General Chiwenga is a Mnangagwa faction supporter and that Grace Mugabe and her G40 supporters, notably Minister Jonathan Moyo, have taken pot-shots at each other on many occasions. As much as ordinary people could not help having an opinion which of the two factions they would rather see succeed; still, it would be wrong to support the one faction at the expense of the common cause to implement the democratic reforms designed to end the dictatorship.

General Chiwenga and his war veterans would be seeing to tomorrow as a victory parade over G40 and the more ordinary people who come out to support them they more they will feel vindicated. If any member of the public think these guys will be interested in joining forces to demand reforms then they are hopelessly wrong! These guys will be fighting in Mnangagwa's corner to resist change.

Whilst it is true that the ouster of President Mugabe is a significant step in our struggle for democratic change, still teaming up with Mnangagwa at this point would be giving him unearned public approval which he would then use to fight those pushing for democratic change. I would much rather take the long route which I know will get me where I wish to go then take a shorter route whose final leg in a bog in which progress will be torturously slow if not impassable!

The war veterans and Army have been on charm offensive to woo the public to their side. Some war veterans have even been talking of beating up any one who causes violence this is very dangerous. If you accept that they can be the judge, the jury and the executioner in maintain law and order and not the Police then to who will you complain if the war veterans are the ones causing the violence because you did not vote for their approved candidate!

The war veterans have pointedly refused to repudiate they claim to a veto as the stakeholders of the country independence in which the rest we are shareholders who have a vote. This is a very important matter that must be sorted here and now or we go our separate ways, to pretend it can be sorted out later is naive. Why can it not be sorted now????

We have waited for 37 years for our right to free, fair and credible elections I will be damned if I am going to accept that I must wait one day longer!

It is reported that President Mugabe had accepted to resign but President Zuma talked him out of it.
I would take what President Mugabe says of others with a pitch of salt, he is a master in the game of divide and rule. He refused to resign long before SA got involved and he is one renowned for being his own man, he did not have to accept President Zuma's advice on this matter.

The fault lays with the coup plotters, they really should have had a plan B and have the resolve to implement it. Whatever happens now there is no doubt that President Mugabe is coming out of this the winner. During the Graduation ceremony today he was seen dozing, this time he probably even snored even if he was wide awake just to underline that he was totally relaxed with not a single thing to worry him!

These stupid generals cannot even arrange a booze up in a brewery! Those of us who know Chiwenga will tell you this is not surprising, the man is incompetent which is exactly why Mugabe promoted him – tyrants love simpletons and half-wits around them, they are as malleable as mud!
I cannot wait to see a democratic Zimbabwe in which merit counts. After decades of idiots ruling the roost, that will be refreshing!
