@ Professor Mugano
The US$16 billion Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) is a game changer
Today I had the privilege of having a 2 hour long learning meeting with the CEO of the MIF @DrJPMangudya at his offices.
As a curious “student”, I had a set of questions which were centered on governance issues, why an investment fund instead of resource based fund and role or relevance of the MIF in the Zimbabwe economy.
As part of his responses to my questions, @DrJPMangudya shared with me MIF’s 5 - year strategic plan with an acronym of FIRE:
Fix, Invigorate, Reinforce & Extract.
In this strategy, it classified the 30 entities under the MIF into four categories:
1. Cash cows
2. Stars
3. Dogs
4. Question marks
Of each of these respective categories, the strategy has tailor-made strategies aimed at achieving 5 outcomes:
1. Financial performance of the entities under the Fund
2. Improvement in corporate governance of the entities under the Fund
3. Improve the contribution of SOEs to GDP - restore the 1996 glory where SOEs contributed 25% of GDP
4. Improve service delivery
5. Build a stabilization fund
As a person who had initially dismissed the MIF, I went into the meeting as a doubting Thomas but I came out of the meeting as a convinced & converted person.
From today, I can speak and argue with facts on why the MIF is a game changer.
MIF you have earned an ambassador.
Watch the space!”
Interesting. However I will still maintain the position that there will be no meaningful economic, political or social change in Zimbabwe until we cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
Professor Mugano talked of the need for “improved corporate governance”. In Zimbabwe all CEOs and line managers are appointed on the basis of patronage and political connections and not merit. And this weakness can be traced back to parent ministry and right up to State House.
Any one who say Zimbabwe can ever be a prosperous nation and still remain a pariah state is a day-dreamer!And I for one has no time for time wasting day-dreamers!
Remember Mugabe and his scientific socialism “Gutsa ruzhinji!” (Mass property!). It was all hot-air! Zimbabwe’s economy was in decline from the word go and in the period 2000 and 2008 it declined by a world record 50% on the tail of the collapse of the agricultural sector and the money printing madness that saw the hyperinflation soar to nauseating height of 500 billion per cent.
When Mnangagwa took over in 2017, he too was cocksure he would revive Zimbabwe’s comatose economy over night. “Zimbabwe is open for business!” he announced at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, the world’s premier annual economic gathering of world economic and political leaders.
The expected flood of investors never materialised because investors are a shrewd lot they could see that the military coup was just a musical chairs removing one dictator and replacing him with another. Zimbabwe was still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who rigged elections to stay in power.
Mnangagwa has since revised his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra. He is now promising to transform Zimbabwe from a poor nation with GDP per capita of US$2 000 to US$6 000 by 2030, Vision 2030. This is just a mirage! He has been in power for 8 years already and instead of signs of economic recovery there are signs the nation is sinking even deeper into the abyss. Corruption was bad under Mugabe it has gone into over drive under Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa promised there will be no electricity power cut in the country only for him to deliver his State Of Nation Address in the dark. No amount of rhetoric and propaganda can trump reality! “Rinemanyanga hariputirwi!” so goes the Shona adage.
The truth is Zimbabweans are an ignorant, naive and gullible people, they are easily conned. They believed Mugabe’s scientific socialism just as readily as they believe Mnangagwa’s vision 2030.
Even the opposition upstarts like Nelson Chamisa have taken advantage of the people’s naivety. He has conned millions to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy in return for a few gravy train seats. He knew that participating would give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship and the nation’s suffering.
“US$16 billion Mutapa Investment Fund is a game changer!” Yeah right! MIF is just another opportunity for the ruling elite to loot, precisely because they are not democratically accountable to the nation!!

In a significant boost to grassroots mobilisation and economic participation, the President handed over a fleet of brand-new vehicles to the ZANU PF Women’s League and Young Women 4 Economic Development (YW4ED).
The Women’s League leadership received six 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 VXR vehicles, while 10 Toyota Hilux GD6 2.8D Double Cabs were allocated to provincial structures. Young Women 4ED also benefited from five Toyota Hilux GD6 2.8D Double Cabs, strengthening their operational capacity nationwide.
The billions of dollars used to buy cars in this year alone would have paid for the construction and equipping of Batoka Gorge Hydro Dam to the benefit of all Zimbabweans and not just a few individuals. Mnangagwa is looting the nation’s wealth and squandering it on dead-end luxuries for his own personal glory. What a criminal waste of material and human resources!
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state the criminal wast of resources will continue. This is the stuff nightmare are made of!
@ Hope Chin’ono
I found the article below in a WhatsApp group, it is incisive and it best describes why ZANUPF has survived and why the opposition in Zimbabwe has failed to remove ZANUPF, because Zimbabweans themselves support personalities, not ideas, not a value system, and they are not principled.
As long as this does not change, Zimbabwe will be ruled by ZANUPF.
Until Zimbabweans follow ideas and not sweet talkers with mediocre thinking, they will deserve ZANUPF. Kusa zvida, kana kuzvida, this is the truth!
Zimbabwe will only be free the day its citizens choose ideas over idols, principles over personalities, and truth over sweet talkers. Until then, ZANUPF will keep winning without even trying.
A struggle is driven by ideas, not vibes and sound bites, and until people understand that, they will keep mistaking noise for leadership.
“My fellow Zimbabweans,
Our greatest weakness is not just a political party. It is a mentality.
We have been taught, over many years, to follow faces instead of principles, names instead of ideas, and personalities instead of competence. That is why the opposition remains disorganised and powerless. That is why the same system continues to rule.
A nation cannot be liberated by excitement over an individual. A nation is liberated by a shared vision, strong ideas, discipline, and competence.
When we choose a person simply because they are popular, because they speak well, because we “like” them, and not because they are capable, experienced, and grounded in solutions, we become the architects of our own suffering. We cannot blame the regime alone when our own choices sustain the same cycle.
Let me be clear:
This is not about opposition versus government.
This is about Zimbabwe versus corruption, incompetence, and a losing mindset.
A football team does not win because it has a popular player. It wins because it has the best player for the job, the best strategy, the best discipline, and a united vision. But if the owners of the club insist on playing an ineffective player simply because he is their favourite, they must accept the results: defeat after defeat.
Zimbabwe, you are the owners of this nation. And every time you support a personality instead of an idea, you are choosing defeat.
We must now ask better questions:
- Does this leader have solutions?
- Do they understand economics, governance, health, education, jobs, land, and industry?
- Are they disciplined? Are they accountable? Are they selfless?
- Or are they simply popular?
We need a movement of ideas, values, systems, and competence.
We do not seek blind followers. We seek conscious citizens.
Citizens who understand that real change is not emotional. It is intentional. It is informed. It is strategic.
Zimbabwe will only change when Zimbabweans change the way they think.
Stop clapping for noise.
Start supporting solutions.
Stop loving personalities.
Start defending principles.
Stop following crowds.
Start choosing competence.
The opposition is not a person.
The opposition is the suffering people of Zimbabwe.
I am asking you to support a vision for a new Zimbabwe — a Zimbabwe that works.
A Zimbabwe of systems, not strongmen.
A Zimbabwe of ideas, not idols.
A Zimbabwe of builders, not cheerleaders.
The liberation of Zimbabwe does not begin at the ballot box.
It begins in the mind.
And the question is simple:
Will you continue to support personalities…
or will you finally stand for ideas?
May God bless Zimbabwe
And may wisdom deliver our nation.”

AMEN! Chamisa lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes and it is disappointing how many Zimbabweans are refusing to admit a simple historic fact like that!

Being rational is not one of our strengths. In 2017 hundreds of thousands rallied behind the November 2017 military coup because they believed they had to choose Mugabe vs Mnangagwa. It was a false choice no different from a mouse choosing cobra vs black mamba.
The mouse will choose neither the cobra nor black mamba because it knows that either will mean certain death. It will choose to live and thus choose to escape!
Why Zimbabweans failed to realise that Mugabe vs Mnangagwa was a false choice since either one meant the perpetuation of the Zanu PF dictatorship. The real choice was to end the dictatorship and replace it with a healthy democracy. It is very disappointing that there are some Zimbabweans who are once again falling into the trap of thinking Mnangagwa vs Chiwenga is anything but another false choice.
@ Petamuswe
“Shame on you wiri inga njere dzako dzakatorasika chokwadi wadini kuenda kundoraoiswa, ukaramba wakadari uchapedzisira wava kudya matuzvi.”
You have not address any of the issues raised because you do not have anything coherent to say. So all you can do is dismiss everything as rubbish and hope the readers do not realise you said nothing to back up you comment. This is to be expected, of course.
You are just a nincompoop and all you can do is defend your leader blindly by stifling all meaningful debate. Everything the demigod leader says is right and must never ever be questioned. Never!
Of course, the Chamisa chete chete brigade members mocking the Zanu PF brain dead member is just as idiotic as the bird ngwenhure mocking the rat for eating the crust from the cooking pot, the classical Shona children story. The bird flew away when the rat reminded him that he feeds on figs with maggots!
Both Zanu PF supporters and MDC/CCC supporters are the ones helping Zanu PF stay in power in that both have been conned to participate in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy. Are you denying that this is not true?
Address the issues raised you flatulent nincompoop!
How naive Chiwenga and Mnangagwa the two sides of the same coin. How many posh cars does Chiwenga have?
In 2017 we removed one dictator only to replace him with another dictator. We are not going to repeat that one again. It would be insane to do that again!
@ Shumba
“There was never an intention to bring about change, the ruling elite will always destroy any meaningful opp.
They have unlimited resources and will always buy out opportunists, the population is also forced into submission.
Well one within will understand the predicament.”
We must not deny or distort historic facts because the minute we do that we are lost.
MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement any meaningful democratic reforms and have conned the people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy because they - MDC/CCC leaders - are corrupt, incompetent, liars and conmen. I hope you are not denying this historic fact and blaming “the ruling elite” (presumably Zanu PF) for the opposition leaders’ weaknesses.
The opposition leaders are mere mortals; why some people keep bending over backwards to change the narrative so these leaders appear squeaky clean beggars belief!
Yes Zanu PF has used brute force and other methods to coerce people to do many things. Are you telling me that the 2 million who participated in the 2023 elections and voted for Chamisa were coerced too. I believe they did so because they believed Chamisa’s idiotic lie that he plugged all vote rigging loop holes.
Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections - the very thing Chamisa said they would not do.
Many of the 2m conned by Chamisa are refusing to admit Chamisa lied to them and they were foolish to be so easily conned! I hope you are not going to argue that Zanu PF is coercing them to do that too!
@ Tich
"Suggest the candidate we can rally behind for President in 2028 now."
You rallied behind Chamisa in 2023 because you believed in him. What has changed?
If nothing has changed you will rally behind him in 2028 regardless of what I say. If you followed Chamisa because your were foolish to do so and you are still foolish today; there is no reason believe you will not be foolish in 2028!
I am here to teach the people why it was foolish to have believed in Chamisa's idiotic lies and participate in flawed elections.
This knowledge will enable them to think for themselves and avoid being conned ever again in the future.
It is not for me, you or anyone else to tell people whom they should be voting for in 2028 or in the future. A well educated, knowledgeable, objective and diligent electorate will figure that for themselves.
https://x.com/WMukori/status/1997677724035682767
When it comes to meaningful economic and political change, the people of Zimbabwe must know that Mahere vs Mavetera, Chamisa vs Mnangagwa, Zanu PF vs MDC/CCC, etc. will never ever deliver any changes. They all have one thing in common, their love for power and wealth is insatiable and they will ride roughshod over the people's freedoms, rights and human dignity to get it.
Zanu PF created the tyrannical dictatorship and they will never reform themselves out of office.
MDC/CCC leaders have wasted many chances to implement reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship and have since given up and settled for conning the people to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy in return for a few gravy train seats.
The only possible source of change is from the people themselves opening their eyes to the reality that MDC/CCC leaders are Zanu PF team B in all but name; playing for team A to win and have legitimacy and for themselves a share of the spoils of power. The nation needs a competent opposition who will implement the reforms!
@ Wilfred
“Where are we going to get the quality opposition?”
Good question. You get cream from milk and not sewage by the same token you will never get quality leaders from a nation of ignorant, naive and gullible voters who are easily conned and fooled. Cream rises from milk just as scum rises from sewage!
In Zimbabwe we have millions who were conned to participate in flawed elections because they believed the idiotic lie that Chamisa plugged vote rigging loop holes. These voters are so naive even now many stubbornly refuse to admit Chamisa lied to them even as they accept Zanu PF rigged the elections. Their personality cult mentality is so deeply rooted it is impermeable to reason and reality! And such intellectual bankrupt electorate will never elect quality leaders. Never!
80% OF ZIMBABWE’S GOLD, WORTH US$2B PER YEAR WAS SMUGGLED OUT OF THE COUNTRY ACCORDING TO AL JAZEERA GOLD MAFIA DOCUMENTARY. MNANGAGWA AND CHIWENGA WERE NAMED IN THE DOCUMENTARY AS “NO. 1” AND “DUNDERHEAD”.
THE LOOTING IS IN GOLD, DIAMONDS, LITHIUM AND MANY, MANY OTHER AREAS. THERE IS A RIVER OF MONEY FLOWING AMOUNT THE RULING ELITE JUST AS THERE ARE TONNES AND TONNES OF GOLD, DIAMONDS, ETC. BEING SHIPPED OUT OF AFRICA.
WHAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE FAILED TO GRASP IS THAT SOME OF THE LOOTED MONET IS THEN USED TO BUY CARS AND OTHER LUXURIES AND TO BRIBE VARIOUS OFFICIAL FOR SELFISH POLITICAL GAIN. THE TRUTH IS ONLY A FRACTION OF THE LOOTED WEALTH ACTUALLY BENEFIT THE NATION.
AFRICA'S RICH RESOURCES HAS BECOME OUR CURSE. WE ARE POOR BECAUSE OF IT!
@ Time will never heal
The real idiots here are those who swapped one dictator, Mugabe, for another, Mnangagwa in 2017 when they should have focus on replacing the dictatorship with democracy. They learned nothing from that and so they are now seeking to repeat the same foolishness; replace the dictator, Mnangagwa with another Chiwenga!
@ Tich
“The biggest conmen of all times is Mnangagwa. He has taken the whole country. We are all living in abject poverty due to his selfish policies bent on supporting ethnic supremacy and hero worshipping in the name of 2030 ndeendiripo.
The whole country's GDP is gone, the wealthy of the nation is not distributed equitably around all corners of the country. People are suffering.
I am shocked to read your assertions about Chamisa, yet you know who is the elephant in the house.
Please, stop waffling and hauling your tired scripts about Chamisa without you bringing an alternative.
It is bad and brutally evil to speak about someone for years knowing that he will not answer and also without bringing a solution on the ground.
You Adonibezek, ZANU PF goon. Stop this nonsense.”
Chamisa will never deny that MDC/CCC leaders sold out by failing to implement even one democratic reform in 25 years including the GNU years because he knows that he will be asked to name the reform implemented, if he dared. He cannot name one because there was not even one reform implemented.
Of course, Chamisa lied about plugging vote rigging loop holes. He was counting on his Chamisa chete chete brigade members not even noticing it given they have the IQ of garden slugs. He cannot believe there are a few people who have not only noticed that he lied but are holding him to account. Worst of all, they are making sure the garden slugs KNOW Chamisa is a liar and a conman. Some of the garden slugs are waking up from their sloth-like sleep.
The message that Chamisa is a liar and a conman is being hammered in and come 2028 many slugs will be repeating it in their sleep.
Will Chamisa con the usual 2 m to participate in flawed 2028 elections? That is the question both Chamisa and Mnangagwa are starting to worry about! They both know that if the Chamisa chete chete brigade members are enlightened and freed to think for themselves; they will NOT be easily conned to participate in flawed elections.
Chamisa’s political credibility is totally dependent on his followers remaining ignorant and gullible. If they should realise Chamisa is a liar and conman the spell will be broken and he will never con they ever again. If a large number of opposition supporters does not participate in the flawed elections, Zanu PF will lose political legitimacy and thus it will be game over for both MDC/CCC and Zanu PF.
“You Adonibezek, ZANU PF goon. Stop this nonsense!” You have good reason to panic; you know me well enough to know I am not going to drive the message home and will never stop. Never!
@ Kay
Only a nincompoop would consider swapping a dictator for another dictator to be a real choice. An intelligent person will know this is a false choice just as a mouse would never consider swapping a cobra for a black mamba a choice. The real choice is death or life, dictatorship or democracy!
@ Chikanza
It is interesting to note that Mangudya vowed that the Zimbabwe Dollar was never going to lose its value whilst he was RBZ Governor. If it did, he would resign. It lost its value by double digits within a few months. He never resigned!
He is the CEO of Mutapa Investment Fund and we are once again being promised that it is a game changer. This is to be expected from a regime that has always promised the moon on a silver platter but has delivered hell on earth and always get away with it because it is not accountable to the people.
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state the country will remain a failed state.
https://www.facebook.com/wilbert.mukori.5/videos/1344232360241872
Ancient Greeks were right, democracy - government of the people for the people and by the people - only works if the said people are educated, knowledgeable, objective and diligent in carrying out their set task of holding those in public office to account. Many Zimbabweans do not have any of these qualities and yet we have given them the vote! and to compound our situation we have political leaders who have exploited this weakness and conned the voters to do all manner of foolish things for their own selfish gain.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because we do not have quality voters and hence quality leaders.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYJc25Gnpv8
Nations like Zimbabwe that have failed to govern themselves, stamp out teething problems such as corruption cannot talk of regions unity much less United States of Africa.
We are losing 80% of our gold worth US$2b per year to gold smugglers according to Al Jazeera Gold Mafia documentary. We are losing similar amount from the looting of diamond, lithium, etc. Surely we should focus of ending this on-going haemorrhage of our resources rather that recovery of what we lost in the past.
Besides, would the reparations not be just one more source of wealth for the ruling elite to loot!
@ Paul
In the rural village where I grew up there was this man renowned for his boasting of his great achievements. He boasted of his beautiful house and spoke of his homestead as A-Bulawayo! The reality was the exact opposite. He had a mud hovel and granny hardly one metre wide propped up from all sides. He was just a windbag full of hot air just like Mnangagwa - come to think of it, he looked like him too especial with the squinty eye!
Windbag was all skin and bone and so was his wife and children.
It was a curse to have windbag for a father and, poor Zimbabwe, has him for State President!
Does anyone have Mnangagwa and his cronies’ details, they are the ones who must hear this.
If you have to buy someone a US100 000 car and have to give then US$20 000 cash so they can buy fuel, the person did not need a car. What the person needed is a modest US$20 000 house plus US$20 00 seed money on chicken farm or some such income generating project.
Why are we spending billions of dollars buying expensive cars and other luxuries when millions of our people are living in abject poverty.
Do you know that Mugabe squandered US$3-4 billion building the Blue Roof Mansion - enough to have built and equipped Batoka Gorge Hydro Dam (a second Kariba Dam). Think of the contribution the power generated from Batoka Dam would have made to the nation. That is wealth generating as contrast to dead end spending. No one is living in Blue Roof and it is slowly rotting, it is not even being maintained. What a criminal waste of material and human resources!
Our greatest curse as a nation is that buffoon are in State House and are making the idiotic decision on the nation's behalf and we are stuck with them. 45 years and counting of these idiotic decisions have left the nation in economic ruins and political paralysis. What a nightmare.
https://x.com/WMukori/status/1998025365021978738
It is bad enough when some one makes bad decisions that affects him/her and a few others. When the bad decision affects millions of others and the buffoon is not even affected nor accountable that is the stuff of nightmares.
In Zimbabwe we have put up with the bad decision of buffoons and the cronies for 45 years and counting. We really need to end this nightmare!
@ Tich
You have denied that is a liar even when presented with all the details of his idiotic lie of plugging all vote rigging loop holes. That is enough to prove you are just a nincompoop! I do not need a lie detector or some such test carried out on you!
Chamisa is a liar and a conman, this message will be hammered into your empty head and that of the other nincompoops like you. You lot will be repeating the message in your sleep by 2028!
@ PATRICK
A BRAIN DEAD ELECTORATE SO STUPID THEY CANNOT REALISE IT EVEN WHEN THEY ARE BEING CONNED IS THE PROBLEM. REMOVING CHAMISA WILL NOT SOLVE ANYTHING IF THE PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE THE SAME IDIOTIC LIE AND PARTICIPATE IN THE FLAWED 2028 ELECTIONS. AS LONG AS WE HAVE MILLIONS OF BRAIN DEAD INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE SO STUPID THEY BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY HEAR THE NATION WILL NEVER GET OUT OF THIS HELL HOLE.
https://www.facebook.com/wilbert.mukori.5/videos/1448246137040046
"THE FIRST DUTY OF EVERY CITIZEN IS TO KNOW. IGNORANCE IS THE OXYGEN OF TYRANNY," SAID PROFESSOR LUMUMBA.
He is spot on there.
Zimbabwe is a failed state, a pariah state, ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who have exploited the nation's greatest weakness - ignorance - to stay in power these last 45 years and counting. Zanu PF has rigged elections and got away with because millions of Zimbabwe have no clue what constitutes free, fair and credible elections. It is shocking that so many have no clue, is not rocket science.
As long as millions remain ignorant, naive and gullible both Zanu PF and MDC/CCC leaders will con them to participate in flawed elections to perpetuate the dictatorship at the nation's expense. Those who do not learn from the past are doom to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
