"Tsvangirai remains the only" viable candidate, says Whande - need to think outside the box. P Guramatunhu

“Morgan Tsvangirai who, in spite of his lackluster political performance, still remains the only person the majority of our people would rather rally around,” you said.

I agree with your sir 100%! Indeed, I would have gone even further to say Tsvangirai is breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. He sold-out the nation during the GNU by failing to implement the democratic reforms the nation is dying for in return for highflier lifestyle plus a $4 million Highlands mansion.

The only reason there are people out there who still consider a corrupt, incompetent and a sell-out a viable candidate to hold public office let alone the highest office in the land is because these people have a mental blockage; they are totally incapable of making any logical decision. Only a first class fool will elect someone president with a proven – not suspected but proven - track record as being corrupt, incompetent and a sell-out, whose treasonous acts have helped the nation in the hell-hole these last decade and expect him/her to perform miracles.

The argument that Tsvangirai is the least nauseating candidate of all the candidates in the box is a defeatist nonsense. The reason why there are no competent candidates offering to lead the country is because no one of quality would want to swim in Zimbabwe’s muddy and dangerous political waters. If the people themselves did not have the mental blockage then they would know it is for them and no one else to clean up the system.

People get the government they deserve, we deserve this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship complete with its train of corrupt and incompetent opposition parties.

Even if Tsvangirai was elected president next year; his administration will be as inapt as Zambia’s late Frederick Chiluba’s government; if we are very lucky!

Tsvangirai is banging the grand coalition drum and welcoming all the 50 plus opposition parties in his big tend but if the opposition should win all these brief-case opposition parties will be demanding a seat at the high table. Tsvangirai and his “kitchen cabinet”, as many people called his GNU cabinet, failed to get even one single reform implemented during the GNU. It is naïve to expect a Tsvangirai led coalition government, with the usual kitchen cabinet members plus an added layer of equally corrupt and incompetent opposition leaders, to achieve anything of substance.

“This might be Tsvangirai’s last chance…before we start all over again,” you concluded. We must raise the bar of our expectation a lot higher than that; we cannot afford to another five more years in this hell-hole.

Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown has now reached the point where millions now live in abject poverty – the kind that kills; poor living conditions have left them susceptible to all manner of disease, the country’s health service has all but collapse, to many even spending $10 per month on essential drugs is now a luxury they cannot afford, etc.

Many people have died since Zimbabwe’s rigged 31 July 2013 elections; they are not here to “start all over again” with Tsvangirai in next year’s elections. Contesting a flawed election was a reckless gamble. The price Tsvangirai paid for losing the gamble was he did not move out of his $4 million Highlands mansion into State House. The price the ordinary people paid was five more years of the Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule and the heart breaking human misery and deaths it brings.

Tsvangirai must not be allowed to drag this nation into yet another flaw election just to gratify his ambition to be president. If he does not know what free, fair and credible elections entail then surely he does not deserve to be State President! With not even one democratic reforms in place contest next year’s elections will be to repeat the folly of contesting the 2013 elections and expect a different result!

The madness of contesting flawed elections again and again expecting a different result must be stopped right now; ordinary people are paying for this madness with their very lives! Enough is enough!

Zanu PF has grown their vote rigging to the point where the number of people who are being brutally denied their basic human rights is just unacceptable. The level of abuse of state resources to buy votes and to bankroll Zanu PF's election expenses is now an outrageous.

All the opposition camp politicians are painfully aware of Zanu PF’s blatant abuse of power and repeated denial of the ordinary people’s freedoms and basic human rights including the right to free and fair elections. The opposition politicians know the right and only thing to do here is to stop contesting these flawed elections. The only reason not even one opposition politician has even thought of doing the right thing is greed.

How President Mugabe has managed to bribe Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, stopping them from implementing even one reform for five years of the GNU is a political feat, in its own right. The tyrant has gone one step further and entice the opposition to contest the 2013 elections even when it was evident that Zanu PF was hell-bend on rigging the vote by offered the opposition a few gravy train seats as bait.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” Senator David Coltart admitted.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

“Under normal circumstances all parties in Nera should actually come together and collectively boycott the elections so that nobody should be seen to be waiting on the fence to jump in and go to bed with Zanu PF,” you said.

The decision whether or not to boycott the flawed elections is an individual decision since the decision to participate is purely out of greed, itself a person decision and not a collective one!

As for the people themselves, they must catch on to the political reality that opposition politicians are contesting flawed elections out of selfish greed and that by participating they are giving Zanu PF the oxygen of political legitimacy the regime does not deserve. The sooner the people caught on to this the sooner they can take up the challenge of demanding reforms themselves with the sense of urgency and gravitas the situation now demands!

What simpletons like Luke Tambirinyoka have failed to understand despite all the serious infighting that has been going on now for years and has resulted in Zanu PF being torn right down the middle with the firing of Mai Mujuru the tough political reality is that this has done nothing to stop the regime scheming its vote rigging activities or slowed down its looting to bankroll the vote rigging.

Mujuru and her followers are as ignorant of how Zanu PF rigged past elections contrary to the lies they gave out when they first joined the opposition camp.

Unless meaningful reforms are implemented first there is real no point in contesting flawed elections.

It is all very well for the likes of Luke to claim “the end is nigh” and that Mugabe and Zanu PF are “panicking”; we have all heard that kind of macho talk from MDC leaders only for them to eat their hat on election day! We want free and fair elections and not another feeble excuse that Zanu PF “stole the election” when we already know this will happen!

In Netshitenzhe’s article, he challenges the notion of “unity at any cost”.
“It cannot be unity of the kind where, in a family, a thief or a murderer is caught in the act, and the relatives elect to keep quiet for the sake of family unity. That, in simple terms, constitutes complicity and is itself a crime.
“Unity in the ANC should be based on principle and it should be in pursuit of the strategies, policies and programmes of the organisation. Violation of what the ANC stands for, by any member at any level, should be combated. That cannot be interpreted as sowing disunity.”
But the ANC continues to devour itself because too many of its leaders and members refuse to see this. Either through their own self-interest or by conflating the ANC and Zuma into a singular organism, they believe the president should be shielded no matter what he does. This sets Zuma and his supporters on a collision course with all those in society who believe that the president should be held accountable for his actions and that the rule of law should prevail.

SA’s future will depend on how the nation grasp this idea or not. If they do accept the need for open debate, welcome criticism and democratic competition; the nation will ripe rich rewards and all will prosper. If the nation decides to stifle debate, silence criticism and eliminate competition under the false god of unity the nation will suffer and all will suffer except the tiny few who will prosper like ticks feeding off the misery of its host!

I AGREE THE PEOPLE OF ZIMBABWE MUST DEMAND TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO PRESIDENT MUGABE'S PROMISE TO CREATE 2.2 MILLION JOBS!

BUT MORE POINTEDLY THE PEOPLE MUST ACCEPT THAT THEY HAVE NEVER IN THE LAST 37 YEARS EVER HELD PRESIDENT MUGABE AND HIS ZANU PF TO ACCOUNT ON ANY MATTER. PEOPLE MUST NOW SEEK TO HAVE THIS MATTER ADDRESSED ONCE AND ONCE FOR ALL AND THIS WILL ONLY BE POSSIBLE IF PEOPLE DEMAND FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE ELECTIONS.

NEXT YEAR'S ELECTIONS WILL BE ANOTHER MEANINGLESS RETUAL UNLESS REFORMS TO STOP VOTE RIGGING ARE IMPLEMENTED!

In the March 2008 vote President Mugabe lost to Tsvangirai's 73%, by his own admission. However, because Zanu PF is in total control of ZEC, the body tasked to do the counting, it ordered a six week long recount and Tsvangirai's win was whittled down to a mere 47% - to enough to avoid the run-off. In the July run-off President Mugabe "declared war" on the people as Tsvangirai himself admitted. Mugabe overturned Tsvangirai's earlier 73% majority to a landslide 84% victory. The people were frog-marched to vote for Mugabe and they did.

Zanu PF has since devised many way of rigging the vote; corrupting the voters' roll, making sure the electorate only get to hear from Zanu PF and the opposition is completely shut out especial in the public media, use the carrot and stick to force the people to vote for the party, Zanu PF continues to loot billions of dollars to bankroll its political activities whilst the opposition have no resources, etc.

Yes, Kenya's electoral process is flawed but nothing compared to Zimbabwe's process; Zanu PF has a licence to rig the vote and it is naive, to say the least, to expect the regime to rig the vote and lose the election! Anybody who is anybody, even the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders have since admitted they need to boycott the elections until meaningful reforms are implemented to stop the vote rigging.

The only reason opposition politicians continue to contest the flawed elections is to win the few gravy train seats Zanu PF has been giving away as bait. Senator David Coltart has admitted this in his recent book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

I have listened to all Dr Nkosana Moyo has had to say, he has failed to explain why he too is going to contest flawed elections other than offer the usual feeble excuses why he is contesting. He too is after the bait gravy train seats, he just does not have the guts to admit it!

What "ground work" has Tsvangirai and the rest in the opposition done? They have failed to get even one reforms implemented and so the people will once again be frog-marched to vote for Zanu PF as we have seen in recent by-elections.

Tsvangirai was in the GNU for five years and he fail to implement even one reforms. The man is corrupt and incompetent how anyone still considers him presidential material only goes to show why we are stuck in this mess - we have people who simply refuse to open their eyes!

It is also possible that you are CIO, here to do your uttermost to convince the opposition that with the grand coalition they will win the elections no matter what! The same dirty trick worked in 2013 and it is clearly working now! Fogmaster, a good name for one here to create a fog of confusion in the opposition camp!

@ Musindo

So, you think all those Dr, Professor, Nurses, Tsvangirais, Bitis, Ncubes, etc. "with the people. living the lives Zimbabweans are living" who are not living on "buy one and get one free" are not cowards there to exploit the people? Then tell why did Tsvangirai, Biti, Ncube and the rest of the MDC leaders fail to get even one democratic reform implemented? They had five years of the GNU to do it!

For your own information, Tsvangirai and company contested the 2013 elections although it was clear the vote would be rigged just because they wanted the few gravy train seats Zanu PF offers as bait. They said they will not contest any more elections until reforms are implemented in 2014 but have since flip-flopped on that for the same reason - the bait gravy train seats!

"Tsvangirai ndi baba!" Baba vama sell-outs! He sold-out on reforms during the GNU in return for the $4 million Highlands mansion. He is now starving in there, an example of one living in a mansion on zero income. Saves him right for selling out!

@ Petros

Advise Dr Moyo to join the grand coalition to contest flawed elections for the sake of winning a few gravy train seats that Zanu PF gives away. MDC lost the 2013 and got "some seats in parliament". But what good has that been to the nation as the economic meltdown has got even worse and the political paralysis deepened?

Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess we want free and fair elections if we are ever going to get out of the mess. We can either continue contesting flawed elections which Zanu PF will rig and, yes, the opposition will get a few gravy train seats. Or we can demand the implementation of reforms and refuse to take part in these meaningless elections. After 37 years of this madness it is obvious to some what the right choice is but clearly the choice in not so obvious to the insane who are used to repeating the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result!

It is said that insanity is hereditary; poor Zimbabwe, she is stuck in this hell-hole!

Nomusa Garikai said...

@ Gwarada

It is said that doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result in a sign of insanity. We have been participating in flawed elections for 37 years now in which we expect Zanu PF to rig the vote and, somehow, lose the election! This has gone on for 37 years and still we have millions still willing to try it again next year!

Insanity is in the genes and so children will inherit it from their parents and passed on down the line for generations. We are going to be in this hell-hole for a very long time!

It is not all who see who perceive and it is not all who hear who understand. You will neither perceive nor understand anything and so will go through life blissfully unaware of what a mess you are in.

Tsvangirai sold you and the rest of us during the during. He kicked the reforms into the tall grass in return for the $4 million Highlands mansion. You are still struggling to get your little brain round that simple historic fact even now with the benefit of hindsight!

Tendai Biti is being clever here (so too in Ncube and all the other brief-case opposition parties); if by endorsing Tsvangirai coalition president he will get a clear shot at his old Mount Pleasant MP seat plus a few others seats beside then PDP will stand to gain. Biti was not going to win the presidential race and he knows it! Of course Biti will tell Tsvangirai he is doing the MDC-T leader a great favour joining the big tend and the PDP votes he brings will guarantee SAVE a landslide victory.

With every opposition upstart that endorse Tsvangirai, his ear to ear smile spreads even further, he is looking more and more like pacman. It is those below Tsvangirai who are going to feel how rotten the grand coalition deal is because they are the ones who will have to give up safe opposition seats to coalition partners.
