Tsvangirai threatening to boycott elections: normally he shoots himself in the leg this time it is in the head!

Prime Minister Tsvangirai gave his shopping list of what he wanted done and hence his reasons why elections should be delayed to October!

“We need media reforms, we want a partial and non-partisan State media and a security sector which is professional and that does not campaign for any political party,” said the PM.

“We want a voter registration for anyone who wants to vote in the election and therefore voters must not be disenfranchised whether an alien or first time voter, they must be allowed to vote in terms of the constitution.”

There is only one reason why all these things were not done and dusted within the first 18 months of the GN, much less now five years; he was distracted by all that glob trotting and chasing women of ill repute to do it!

“The old constitution is very clear as far as Amendment Number 19 is concerned. It says the President and Prime Minister shall decide and consult each other and I was not consulted.”

Well the Constitutional Court’s ruling ordering elections to be held by July 31 has nothing to do amendment number 19 and Mugabe should consult Tsvangirai on election date. It is saying this GNU parliament’s maximum life of five years is coming to an end on 29 June 2013 and like it or not parliament MUST be dissolved and fresh elections held.

The wording and spirit of amendment 19 was NEVER meant to allow Mugabe and Tsvangirai to extend the five of parliament beyond the statutory five years under the pretext of there are still consulting each other, there are reforms to implement or whatever. What the Court is saying is the time is up.

I agree that millions of Zimbabweans are going to be disenfranchised because if these elections are not free and fair. Only the politically naïve will believe that Tsvangirai will get all the reforms implemented in the next four months when he failed to do so in four and half years, particularly when Mugabe’s hand to resist reforms is even stronger now that the weak Copac constitution is law and it calls for none such reforms!

“We might consider boycotting in the absence of media and security sector reforms. We can only have a free and fair credible election by end of October not within six weeks,” threatened Tsvangirai.

Yes, it was coming to this and that is why you got the other four political parties to join you on Wednesday for that Indaba. What a waste of time, space and breath!

CNN’s Becky Anderson said PM Tsvangirai made Mugabe and his dictatorship “legitimate”. She can now add that he has handed the tyrant electoral victory in a silver-platter!

The coming elections are NOT going to be free and fair because you, PM Morgan Tsvangirai failed to get the critical democratic reforms implemented and you accept this rubbish Copac constitution. Mugabe and Zanu PF will rig these elections because of you incompetence.

You, PM Tsvangirai, are threatening to boycott the elections because they are not going to be free and fair; that is so because you, Mr Prime Minister Tsvangirai, failed to implement the reforms and get a democratic constitution. You were too incompetent to get these done in four and half years, it is nonsense that you can have them done now. You were too incompetent to deliver free and fair elections.

In short, you are now threatening to boycott your own incompetence! Of your many shooting-yourself-in-the-foot blunders that sure takes the biscuit! You have the gun to your temple this time – yes; gentle does it, now squeeze the trigger!

Mugabe will benefit from a boycott; the prospect of rigging another elections with the whole world watching is nerve-racking even for a seasoned tyrant like him!

Tsvangirai is caught in an impossible situation here; that much I would agree. Without the
reforms the elections are not going to be free and fair; he will be damned to take part in such elections.

So he must push for these reforms. The reality regarding getting reforms implemented is that it is too late to do so now. Now with this new Copac constitution approved, it calls for not even one reform, Mugabe is not going to give an
inch. Boycotting elections is the only door open to him.

Frankly Mugabe will be very pleased to have Tsvangirai’s name off the ballot papers!

The thing here is this damned if he takes part and damned if he boycott situation is of
Tsvangirai’s own making. He should have implemented the reforms and he should have never accepted the weak and feeble Copac constitution! These tasks should have been done and dusted 18 months after the signing of the GPA, according to the time scales agreed at the time. Yet 54 months later, none of these have been done properly. Forget this nonsense from Tsvangirai that he can now have these things done in four months!

“Awa ndiwo anonzi mazvokuda mavanga anyora!” as one would say in Shona. Tsvangirai’s troubles are his own making.

What is unforgivable here is that the nation is going to pay dearly for his blundering. The nation will be saved the horror of another bloody election if Tsvangirai boycotts the elections. Regardless of whether or not MDC boycott one thing is now certain the nation is going to have another five years of this corrupt and brutal Zanu PF dictatorship!

No one is ever hanged for being incompetent, I wish we could hang Tsvangirai for what he has done.

@ Common sense

SADC did ask MDC to implement the reforms, "follow the roadmap", countless of times. PM Tsvangirai would not listen; he was too busy doing other things!

President Ian Khama argued Zimbabweans not to vote yes in the referendum and close the last door the nation had to force the implementation of reforms. Zimbabweans paid no heed. What else did you want SADC to do?

If there is bloodshed, it will be on MDC's hands and the nation blundered in believing his lies that there will be free and fair elections. We are now paying for our folly!

We cannot blame others for our own folly; we must accept when we have made a mistake; a very serious mistake in this case; and, hopefully, learn from it!

Unity is important but to be united Tsvangirai on this issue only shows just how shallow they all are. They should have been telling MDC years ago to implement the reforms and they didnot. They too were fast asleep, just like Tsvangirai.

MDC may boycott the elections, these guys are not going to do so. All they see is a chance to get back on the gravy train. They would love to see the two MDC out of the race!

MDC forgot about bringing democratic changed a long time ago. The GPA had its limitations, I acknowledge that; still there is no disputing that MDC did not even try to get the democratic reforms implemented.

The Copac constitution they presented to the nation was too weak and feeble to deliver free and fair elections. How many times have I and a few others said that!

SADC expressed their disappointment with MDC publicly accusing its leaders of forgetting they were there to bring free and fair elections. All the MDC leaders were tripping over each other singing Mugabe's praises. Even Tendia Biti, one of the few leaders I have held in great respect was talking of Mugabe as "unflappable" and the "father of Zimbabwe". All nonsense, of course; Mugabe is a corrupt, psychotic and murderous tyrant.

The last chance to save the country from the nightmare we now face was in March. If the nation had rejected the Copac rubbish then we would have forced the implementation of the reforms.

What is the alternative now? None! We now have to pay for our folly of believing in an incompetent leader like Tsvangirai. We cannot call off elections now! My hope is we learn from this stupid mistake!

If, after all these mindless blundering, you still believe “MDC T is the only vehicle for democratic change right now” then you, at least, clearly have learnt nothing! Absolutely nothing! The nation is certain to relive all this all over again until we learn.

Biti says he feels 89 after all the endless political negotiations.

Less than a year ago you were singing Mugabe's praises calling him "unflappable" and "father to Zimbabwe". So what has changed since? You have become part and parcel of the system, bickering endless whilst Rome burns; that is what!

You are sounding concerned now because you want the people to vote for you; that is all you care about!

@GBZ

The country has 28 political parties already and yet we are still in a mess. Common sense then would say forming even more political parties is not the answer.

I have said before and will say it again; Mugabe is a corrupt, psychotic and murderous tyrant. I take it you and many Zimbabweans out there agree with me. If you call that "hate everyone with venom" then so do you.

Where I differ with you and many MDC supporters is that I also see leaders like Tsvangirai for the incompetent and blundering leader he is. You refuse to see that!

Tsvangirai's failure implement reforms is going to have far reaching tragic consequences in that there will be bloody elections again and then another five years of this Zanu PF a dicta-torship at least.

Tsvangirai was free to chase all the women he chose it is totally unacceptable that it should be all he did!

This is about the fate of the nation, Zimbabwe; that is the bigger picture. Tsvangirai and Mu-gabe are but one tiny pixel in that picture. To be indifferent to the destruction of the whole nation for the sake of saving the ego of one individual is down-right stupid.

Tsvangirai is an incompetent and blundering leader. His threat to boycott elections is but his latest blunder; he is shooting himself in the mouth politically. Do I care? No I do not care! I have the whole nation to worry about without wasting my time on him!
