EU gives Mugabe $4 million whilst demanding "clarity" - like all tyrants, he will take the money and give nothing away!

“There is lack of clarity of policies. There must be transparency and accountability on these policies. You tend to hear contradictory sentiments from one official to another especially on indigenisation”, Aldo Dell’ Ariccia said. The Ambassador would do even better if HE clarified the EU’s policies first!

Is the EU joining the Israelis and Chinese in playing dirty political games at the expense of the long suffering ordinary Zimbabweans?  Is this $4.1 million the start of the EU's financial bailout of the Mugabe regime; the first down payment of the country's $27 billion ZimAsset request? Or is it just a sweeter to buy EU access into Zimbabwe's murky diamond business and once in the EU, like the Chinese and Israelis before them, will not be spending a penny more? In other words the country will still be in the latch it is in right now of serious economic melt-down because the very reasons the Ambassador himself is talking about – lack of clarity, transparency and accountability!

Like it or the lifting of some of the sanctions, this $4.1 million from the EU, the invitation of Mugabe to Brussels, etc. will be seen by Harare as “proof” that the EU has relented and is ready to do business. The regime has taken on the mighty of the West pushing for regime change and won! Now it is already repeating the benefits in all these concessions from the EU. As far as Mugabe is concerned, the rest of the Western countries will all soon fall in line!

"The British did not know what hit them!" Mugabe boosted after the rigged elections. His refusal to release the voters roll, the smoking gun as to how he rigged the vote is only another dimension of his mastery, as far as he is concerned.

The Mugabe regime is not going to soften its stance on indigenisation; the best the EU can expect is silence.  As for meaningful democratic reforms, the basis and only hope for free and fair elections in 2018, Mugabe will never ever implement not even one reform.

The EU must know that by offering Mugabe the false hope that he can stay in power, keep his corrupt and autocratic ways and still achieve some economic recovery; they EU is betraying the ordinary people who will continue to  suffering the consequences of further economic melt-down.  And worst of all, the EU will have closed the nation’s hopes of ever holding free and fair elections in 2018!

No, Ambassador Aldo Dell’ Ariccia it is the EU that must take a firm standing against Mugabe and his tyrannical regime after blatantly rigging the July 2013 Zimbabwe elections. It is the EU that must stop posy-footing around!

Dear Eddie

"MDC is in a mess and needs to sort out its situation, settle down to a protracted struggle for fundamental reforms and the democratic contests that lie ahead," you say! Man what planet have been living on!
MDC is not just “in a mess”; it is a mess and has always been a mess ever since the party was founded. And recent events prove, if any such proof was required, that this is one mess that can never ever be “sorted out”!
I think you are one of the few politicians left in Zimbabwe who has tried to comprehend the nation's political and economic problems and offered so solution but you repeated failure to accept MDC, particularly its leader Tsvangirai’s breath-taking incompetence has left you with a lot of egg on your face.
You are right that Zimbabwe is facing some really serious political, economic and diplomatic challenges ahead. You are spot on to say these challenges have all got a lot worse and not better since the rigged July 2013 elections. But to have the day of the elections as the start date of your analysis is wrong because what happened on the day itself and thereafter had already been set and fixed. It was MDC’s failure to implement the democratic reforms that made the vote rigging by Mugabe possible and the economic and political chaos that have followed were as inevitable as pain and death follows after a snake beat!
MDC had five years to implement the democratic reforms but failed to get even one reform implemented. Not a sausage!
Other than yourself Eddie and maybe one or two others, most MDC members including Tsvangirai himself do not have the foggiest idea what all these democratic reforms are about. And, tragically, it is this latter group in the MDC led by Tsvangirai that has emerged as the victors in the latest power struggle within the party. Sure this nonsense brigade can “settle down” but to what end and purpose? Only the very naive would expect this lot to get any meaningful democratic reforms implemented!

@ Galante1

What "brand" has Tsvangirai developed?

The trouble with people like you who do not have the foggiest idea what is going on is you are want to be seen as being smart and talking about things like "brand" when it is all nonsense.

Tsvangirai is one of the most incompetent leaders of our time. His whole speech was nothing more than a torrent of a self-righteous tyrant only to contradict himself by claiming MDC is a democratic party. How can someone who does not understand anything much less political matters be said to have a "brand"?

@ Chenai

The mahumbwe parallel is spot on except for one thing the whole nation is starving and the child, Mugabe, is wasting the little maize meal cooking a meal that will give the hungry nation diarrhoea.

Mahumbwe esadza mbodza rinoitisa manyoka!

"They cannot keep the president on the sanctions list, what has Mugabe done?" Rugare Gumbo asked.

Was this a rhetorical question or just the usual sadistic indifference of the bully to the suffering of his victims.

Mugabe blatantly rigged the July 2013 elections for a start and Gumbo thinks that is nothing! If the tyrant did not rig the elections, then why is he refusing to release the voters roll - the smoking gun to the rigged vote?

The EU, especially Belgium, is only interested in joining Israel and China in the looting of Zimbabwe's diamond and nothing else. Belgium does not give a damn that Mugabe is a murderous tyrant who has just blatantly rigged yet another election.

The EU is not going to bail Zimbabwe out of the deepening economic mess because no amount of money can do that. What the country need is the return of the rule of law and that is not going to happen as long as the Zanu PF dictatorship remains in power!

@ Zvaita5321

Zimbabweans are a naïve and gullible lot and that is why they gave their total support of Mugabe for decades after independence. Even when Mugabe showed his murderous side, people refused to believe their own eyes! You would think they learnt the lesson but no.

For the last 15 years Zimbabweans have followed Tsvangirai, one of the most incompetent leaders of our times, like sheep!

As long as Zimbabweans continue to bury their heads in the sand and refuse to think, the country will have an endless string of tyrants and morons in state house!

A group of white Zimbabweans are calling for the lifting of sanctions against Mugabe and his cronies blaming them for the country's economic melt-down.

For many years many whites thought Mugabe would leave them alone as long as they kept out of politics and their heads down. When Mugabe had nothing let to loot and his cronies were clamouring for more loot he turned on the whites, playing the race card. The violent seizure of the white owned farms was racist move and by giving the farms to his cronies who failed to make productive use of them Mugabe triggered the country's economic melt-down.

The farm seizures started in 2000 and by the time the sanctions were imposed in 2002 the country's economy was already in serious trouble. So what are these white Zimbabweans wittering about, it is the sanctions that caused the economic melt-down? These whites are nothing but a new wave of those seeking to appease Mugabe in the hope the tyrannical regime will leave them alone!

@ Black aristocrat

MDC and that idiot, Tsvangirai, is the one who gave this nonsense of sanctions causing the economic hardships currency.

It was MDC and that idiot, Tsvangirai's failure to implement the democratic reforms that allowed Mugabe to rig the elections and thus stay in power. If the nation had free and fair elections in July 2013 we would not be talking of all this nonsense now!
