EU - Zimbabwe relations thawed 2 years ago but still no EU investment - they are now tormenting Mugabe

“THE British secretary for international development, Mark Lowcock will this week visit Zimbabwe, for the second time in two years as relations between Harare and the west continue to thaw,” reported New Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe's relationship with EU thawed two years ago what it has failed to produce was the financial aid and funding, especially of Mugabe’s ZimAsset economic recovery plan which is now dead in the water. The truth is the EU did not have any intention back then or do they have any now of bankrolling Mugabe’s ZimAsset plan. Mugabe does not want to accept that reality and hence the reason the regime propaganda machine keeps talking of “thawing relationship” as if the EU will bankroll ZimAsset once the relationship in warm and comfortable!

The British and everyone knows that is what Mugabe will be dying to hear that the British minister has brought with him a suitcase full of cash, with promises of plane loads of more cash to follow, to help ease Zimbabwe’s now unbearable economic hardships! What the minister will say is that the British have loads and loads of money and they would like to invest in Zimbabwe but before that can happen Zimbabwe must scrap its obnoxious indigenisation laws.

Many EU member countries have sent high powered trade delegations to Zimbabwe since the EU lifted the targeted sanctions imposed on all Mugabe's 100 or so cronies all except the tyrant and his wife. All the delegates without exception have said they would want to invest in Zimbabwe but not whilst the obnoxious indigenisation laws remain on the statute book.

Of course Zimbabwe’s indigenisation laws demanding that all foreign investors must sale 51% of their shares to a local partner, appointed by the corrupt regime, are obnoxious.  It is bad enough to have to pay tax, development levy, etc., etc. but to be yoked with a useless and wasteful partner who is nothing but a blood sucking parasite is asking for too much.

So the EU have taken turns to tell Mugabe they have the money, lots and lots of it, to invest and help end the economic meltdown it is going through but they are not going to spend even one penny whilst he remains in power since he is not going to scrap his flagship indigenisation laws.

Yes EU-Zimbabwe relationship thawed a long time ago. We are now in a new phase in which the EU trade delegation visiting Zimbabwe go through the motion of praising the country’s potential for investment, raising the excitement in the regime’s circle desperate for inward investment to fever pitch level; and then the whole thing collapse because of the obnoxious indigenisation laws. To say the EU is teasing Mugabe will be an understatement; they are tormenting him mercilessly!

For years Mugabe has denounced and insulted the “evil British imperialists and their Western allies” from every public platform both inside Zimbabwe and outside. At his lavish birthday party in Victoria Falls, he mentioned the “evil sanctions” but, unlike him, he did not elaborate and denounce the British and their allies who imposed them. He has not mellowed; he must have known of the British minister’s visit and had his fingers and toes crossed he might have the suitcase of cash!

After years of being insulted by Mugabe, the British are now having their own back only they are not doing so from a rooftop, they are very subtle about it. They know Zimbabwe is serious economic trouble, there is a growing rebellion in Mugabe’s Zanu PF party and, as if that was not bad enough for the tyrant, his health is failing and he is frail from old age.

“Keep your England and I will keep my Zimbabwe!” Mugabe has said repeatedly in his firebrand bygone years! He has made a complete dog’s breakfast of keeping his Zimbabwe and now he is weak and feeble his evil past of corruption, vote rigging, murderous repression, etc. are all coming back to haunt him. The British are sending a minister to ask him how he is doing!

"The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bone," said William Shakespeare.

There is no doubt that the evils of decades of criminal waste of resources because of corruption and mismanagement will live long after Mugabe is gone and generations of Zimbabweans will continue to suffer because of it. It is gratifying that Mugabe has survived long enough to suffer the consequences of his evil past.

The British Minister will see for himself how the firebrand of yesteryears is now nothing more than the castoff coat of the snake expect that in this case the snake did not have the energy to crawl out; it is all shrivelled but still inside the tattered and torn coat!

People will be asking the British Minister how is President Mugabe in that sarcastic and derogatory voice which everyone knows is asking how is the mother – c***! It is the British’s turn to laugh at Mugabe and they will be laughing for decades to come!

The pompous and self-righteous shall be humbled. The silver back chest drumming Robert Mugabe has not been humbled, he has been totally humiliated! The longer he tries to hang on to power the more pathetic Mugabe is going to look. That is the tyrant forte; they will not quit whilst they are ahead and even when the game is truly lost they will still hang on deluding they are still invincible when their iron grip of the past is nothing but a feeble touch!

There are reports that Zanu PF is turning on the heat on those companies that failed to give generously to the Mugabe’s birthday party contributions.

“As Zanu PF Youths the principles of the party need to be defended and we are the vanguard of this revolutionary party,” said Zanu PF Youth leader Pupurai Togarepi.

Yes we can see here a clear demonstration of these Zanu PF principles – blackmail. Many com-panies are facing real economic hardship and many have been forced to close down and instead of the regime addressing the underlying causes and help the nation get out of this mess it is instead making even more demands on the companies in the form of taxes and stupid donations to pay for the party’s leisure activities.

No one would want to invest in a country where there are so many blood sucking ticks be there the local partners would be investors are forced to sell 51% of their shares to or these marauding Zanu PF party Youths with their never ending demands for donations one will be damned to ignore!

If we want Zimbabwe to go back to being the prosperous nation it was once upon a time then we must first end this Zanu PF madness by raising our voices and demand an end. We have waited for the last 35 years for the day Mugabe will admit that he has failed to govern the nation and give up political power. Mugabe and Zanu PF will never ever give up power no matter how much evident there is that they have failed because it is not in the nature of tyrants to give up power. If we want this country to be justly ruled then it is up to us to demand and take power from the tyrants now in power.

I could not agree more, we need the democratic reforms implemented "first and foremost". Indeed those who are calling for the alignment of the laws with the Copac constitution must remember this constitution is a weak and feeble one and so will never guarantee all our basic rights even if all the existing laws were realigned to it.

The is a real danger that Zanu PF will not get any reforms implemented and opt for the easier option of aligning the laws. Mugabe will not see the "first" in first implement the reform and then align the law. He will see implement the reforms or align the law; he is a born cynic!

By threatening the judge who dares hear the Mutasa challenge Mugabe has put himself above the supreme law of the law which has appointed the said judge to be the only final arbiters of the law. We are either ruled by law or by the whim of a dictator and if the final word on this matter is Mugabe's and not the judge then we know which is which!

@ Patrick

I think Zimbabweans have yet to realize that if we are going to have a free, just and prosperous Zimbabwe then it is up to us to make sure that happens. After independence we opted for the ease downhill route - let Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies rule and hope for the best! Now the country is in a real mess and still we stand back and hold the corrupt and incompetent MDC will get us out of the mess.

I agree that if the country was to have a few individual who are focused on explaining to the nation that everyone has to understand the right to vote carries with it the duty to understand at least the basics of the issues affecting the nation then there would be hope for peace and prosperity for us all.

Sometimes I fell like the voice crying in the wilderness and therefore ask myself why bother! No one can ever say we do not deserve this corrupt and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship or the corrupt and incompe-tent MDC. If this is what the nation wants then they also deserve to suffer the consequences!

Tsvangirai says MDC will soon roll out mass street protests.

Tsvangirai must know he helped create the problem by failing to implement the reforms and thus allowing Mugabe and Zanu PF to rig the elections.

What is it exactly will MDC be demanding in their street protest? Because if it is another GNU; we do not want it. All Tsvangirai and his MDC friends is to get back on the gravy train; what we want is a real solu-tion to this Zanu PF dictatorship because nothing of substance will ever be achieve as long as it Zanu PF remains in power. We want all the democratic reforms implemented and free, fair and credible elections held a.s.a.p.

According to the Standard, MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said Mutasa has never been a good example of a democrat and should remember the violence unleashed on innocent people in his former constituency.

He said the opposition party was pleased to note that Mutasa will now be able to appreciate what the MDC-T had always been complaining about concerning violence, as well as the several elec-toral malpractices that were routinely practised by the Zanu-PF party.

United MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume said it was good that Mutasa was coming face-to-face with Zanu-PF's dirty campaign tactics.

What is really funny about this story is that when Mai Mujuru, Mutasa and other Zanu PF members were first booted out of Zanu PF all opposition parties out wooing the corrupt and filthy rich former VP and her colleagues. Now that the MDC know they will never kiss the rich widow’s hand they are deriving a sadistic pleasure in see her and kinsfolk suffer!

You cannot blame Mai Mujuru, she is naïve but not that naïve to fall for the “big tent” idea when she can see for herself it is a small tent and getting smaller by the day as more and more members finally realize just how corrupt and incompetent Tsvangirai really is. She would be better off losing on her own terms than be yoked with a bunch of losers!

After 35 years of mismanagement and corruption the country's economy is now is total melt-down; the pressure is on Mugabe to step down because he really does not know what to do now to fix the economy.

After 35 years of willy-dealing and cheating within his own party Mugabe has created so much mistrust in the party everyone in the party is now carrying a dagger and they are all convinced that everyone is after them and attack is the only defence. It was Mugabe himself who struck the first blow in his unprovoked attack of Mai Mujuru and others last year. He started the fighting and now he is helpless to stop it!

Zanu PF is imploding for economic and political reasons and Mugabe brought it all upon the party and nation. The economic meltdown is dragging the whole nation into a real economic mess.
