Dutch Ambassador speaks out on democratic change in Zimbabwe - touching a raw nerve for Mugabe!

The Dutch Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Gera Sneller reaffirms her country’s commitment to democratic change in Zimbabwe and makes no apology for Mugabe and Zanu PF’s raw nerve regime change agenda sensitivity!

"During past years, our focus has been very much on opening up democratic space for the benefit of Zimbabweans so they can express their free will. It is our “agenda”- if you want to call it that – that the people be in a position to be well informed about the issues and about the stance of the different players on those issues and on that basis to choose freely whom they want as a government," said the Ambassador.

Well put Madam, well put!

Of course as far as Mugabe and his gang of thugs are concerned; they do not want the people to be informed nor do they want them to have a meaningful vote and decide who governs them. These are the freedoms and rights all the blacks thought we were fighting for before independence only to have them denied by the same individuals who remind us at every opportunity that they ARE the nation's liberators!

Only yesterday Mugabe was calling Information Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo, "devil incarnate" because the Zanu PF control public media reported the stories of rampant corruption by Zanu PF loyalists. As far as the tyrant is concerned that the public must not be told such stories and there are "divisive" for the party.

Zimbabwe is in a mess today precisely because the people have been denied the democratic right to replace a regime they have known to be corrupt and oppressive.

It is refreshing to hear people like Ambassador Gera Sneller reaffirm the need for real democratic change without being phased by the Zanu PF propaganda twist and accusation of regime change agenda. Regime change is one possible outcome of free and fair elections; no one should have to apologise for that and Mugabe and Zanu PF will have to accept as a matter of course!
