Why Mugabe resorted to verbal abuse of Moyo rather than fire him - Moyo has the tyrant by the balls!

It is 100% correct that it was Moyo's strategic thinking that has kept Mugabe is power and why Mugabe has taken him back even after the Tsholotsho coup plot against Mugabe himself still there is no love lost between the pair. Mugabe is smart enough to have known, even when he was taking Moyo back and giving him the important job of Minister of Information, that he might stab him in the back and I believe Moyo has done just that too.
The one story after another of rampant corruption by Zanu PF officials in PSMAS, Air Zimbabwe, ZESA, Harare City Council, etc. have all done serious damage to Mugabe and Zanu PF. He and his propaganda machine had for decades denied that there was corruption let alone rampant corruption in the country and in a matter of two weeks the myth was gone.
For years the regime had blamed the country's economic meltdown on the "sanctions imposed by the imperialists West" but after the stories of rampant corruption came out the regime never again mentioned economic meltdown and sanctions in the same sentence. The degree of the looting was so great it was clear there was no way any economy could possibly be expected to survive that level of financial haemorrhage.
The corruption has been so rampant the stories were bound to come out but certainly not with the Zanu PF media playing the leading role; that is why Mugabe is so angry with Moyo.  The Zimbabwe economy was already in serious trouble after the reckless spending by Mugabe paying Nikuv and financing all the other vote rigging activities buying all bets were off that the Mugabe regime would ever delivery the economic recovery. The stories of rampant corruption added little to why everyone had lost confidence in Zanu PF. But no doubt Mugabe would probably heap all the blame on the rampant corruption stories.
When the history of Mugabe and Zanu PF gets to be written the economic meltdown the country is going through right now will be known as the killer-blow that floored the tyrant never to get up. Mugabe knows the end is near and hence his anger with Moyo is heart-felt.
The thing is Moyo knows many of Mugabe's dirty tricks, after all he authored many of them himself. He brought Moyo into the cabinet to reward him for helping rig the elections but more significantly to buy Moyo's silence and keep him close.  It was USA President Lyndon B. Johnson who said of his critics it was "better to have them inside the tent pissing out than outside pissing in." Mugabe must have been thinking likewise when he allowed Moyo to join his cabinet. However Moyo was not just a run-of-the-mill critic, he was an assassin bend on "destroying the party from within", as Mugabe himself now admits.

The only reason Mugabe has not fired Moyo – let’s face it, it is pretty humiliating that a head of state should have to resort to shouting abuse of a subordinate from the well to let out steam - is because there is still the small matter of what Moyo would do with all the dirty he has on Mugabe! When someone has you by the balls, there is no doubt Moyo has Mugabe by the balls and is squeezing them hard, it is wiser to let out steam shouting from the well!

ZANU PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo told the state media that Mugabe will ‘obviously try and pro-mote the party’s model of development through indigenisation, empowerment and agriculture reform’ in the region.

Last Wednesday Zanu PF Politburo met to discuss whether or not the party should just scrap the ill- advised indigenisation policy which is what Mugabe and Chimanasa had been saying they would do for weeks. The Politburo must have come to the conclusion that even if the party was to scrap this policy there would still be no donations to the $27 billion ZimAsset and no new investments because no one would trust the regime to keep it word.

So instead of ditching his hallmark rhetoric Mugabe will keep it because the international community has clearly decided to ditch him regardless. It is better to be ditched whilst holding steadfast to his rhetorical nonsense at he can still claim that it was for his steadfastness he was ditched and not that the policies were nonsense! Of course no SADC country would want to buy nonsense even when packaged as steadfastness!

@ Roving Ambassador

If Mugabe did not get the SADC chair because it was Zimbabwe's turn then you can be sure of one thing, Mugabe cried for it which is what he did for the OAU chair! Zimbabwe has no clean drinking water in all its major cities, hospitals are closing down, etc. but would not have stop the tyrant spending millions of dollars lobbying and bribing ever cat and dog in every SADC country is they had a vote! Indeed he would be thinking of how to bribe them again so he can get another term!

MDC renewal said the parties to the grand coalition were going to meet in Gweru in May. We are now in June; the meeting did not take place. Now they claim the parties are about to sign MOU; a prelude to the formation of the grand coalition. All the other parties have denied there were no such MOU!

What is really disappointing whilst the MDC renewal team and all these other potential partners in the grand coalition are talking endless about talks the Zimbabwe continues to sink fast. Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies have failed to rig economic recovery and should have admitted their failure by now and allowed the nation to look for a way out of the mess. Instead the tyrant is holding on to power and thus dragging the economy and the nation deeper and deeper into this hell we find our-selves in.

Both MDC and Zanu PF are fiddling whilst Rome burns!

Of course these endless grand coalition talks should not be a surprise to anyone, not really; it is the same inability to distinguish what is important and urgent from the trivial matters and focus and act decisively that resulted in MDC failing to implement even one democratic reform after five years in the GNU. Anyone expecting salvation to come from the grand coalition, if it ever materialised, are hoping against hope!

A top Zanu PF politburo member said: “Jonathan Moyo came under attack for the Zimpapers appointments. Members were questioning why people from newspapers and organisations that were anti-Zanu PF were being appointed editors.” (Zimbabwe Independent reported)
Another politburo member said: “The president led the discussion. He started off by asking why there is a report on people from the private media being appointed to top positions at Zimpapers when they are not reflecting the party’s thrust.
“The president said instead there is a lot of acrimony and divisions being caused by the state media. He was very angry — I have rarely seen him that angry.
This is Zanu PF at its worst! The regime has always wanted the nation kept in the dark on everything and hence the reason why it has always retained tight control of the public media and has a whole Ministry there to filter out what the people should hear and know. There have been the odd occasion when information has slipped through the net and got out and the regime has always descended like a tonne of bricks on whoever was responsible be from the private or public media.

What is surprising is how many Zimbabweans out there have actually been sold on this nonsense that allowing the stories of corruption to come out was "divisive" for Zanu PF. Even the die-hard Zanu PF supporters should be dismissing this as nonsense. Corruption is the cancer that has destroyed the nation but Zanu PF itself has suffered too. It has had to rig the 2013 elections at an unprecedented scale because the people have lost confidence in the party because corruption has been rampant!

No doubt Mugabe will soon be moving to dismiss all the journalist he accused of being "MDC supporters". He should know that the dismissals will be exposed for what they are - just another hard evidence of his and Zanu PF's hypocrisy in claiming to represent the people when in practice they are doing the exact opposite!
